1.1PRELIMINARY
-Whenusing themeter,theusermustobserveall
normalsafetyrulesconcerning:
Protection against thedangersofelectricalcurrent.
Protection ofthemeteragainst misuse.
-Whenthemeterisdelivered,checkthatithasnot
been damagedintransit.
-Whenpoorconditionunderharshpreservation or
shipping conditionscaused,inspectandconfirmthis
meterwithout delay.
-Testleadsmustbeingood condition.Beforeusing

1.2DURINGUSE
-Beforeusing,you mustselecttherightinputjack,
functionand range.
-Neverexceed theprotectionlimitvaluesindicated in
specificationsforeachrangeofmeasurement.
-Whenthevaluescaletobemeasured isunknown
beforehand,settherangeselectoratthehighest
position.
-Donotmeasurevoltageifthevoltageonthe
terminalsexceeds1000Vaboveearthground.
-Alwaysbecarefulwhenworkingwithvoltagesabove
60VDC or30VACrms,keepfingersbehind the
probebarrierswhilemeasuring.
-Beforerotatingthetransformswitchtochange
functionsand ranges, disconnect test leadsfromthe
circuit undertest.
-Neverperformresistance,temperature,transistor,
diodeand continuitymeasurementsonlivecircuits.
-Neverusethemeterunderthecondition ofthe
explosiveair, steamordirt.

4.OPERATINGINSTRUCTION
4.1Voltagemeasurement
-Set rotaryswitchtothedesired V orV~range.
-Connecttheblackand redtestleadstotheCOMand
V terminalsrespectively.
-Connect thetest leadstothecircuit being measured
-Readthedisplayedvalue.Thepolarityofredtestlead
connectionwillbeindicatedwhenmaking aDCV
measurement.
-Whenonlythefigure “1”isdisplayed,itindicates
overrangesituationandthehigherrangehastobe
selected.
Toavoidelectricalshock and/or damageto
theinstrument,do notattempttotake any
voltagemeasurementthatmightexceeds
1000Vdcor 750Vacrms.Donotapplymore
than1000Vdcor 750Vac rmsbetweenthe
common terminal and theearthground.

4.2Currentmeasurement
-Set therotaryswitchtothedesired A orA~range.
-ConnecttheblacktestleadtotheCOMterminaland
thered test leadstothemAterminalforamaximumof
200mA. Foramaximumof10A, movethered test
lead tothe10Aterminal.
-Connecttestleadsinserieswiththeload inwhichthe
current istobemeasured.
-Read thedisplayed value. Thepolarityofred test lead
connectionwill beindicatedwhenmakingaDCA
measurement.
-Whenonlythefigure"1"displayed,itindicates
overrangesituationand thehigherrangehastobe
selected.
*MS8221B/MS8230Bdon’thave ACAmeasurement
function.
Toavoiddamagetothemeter, use theproper
terminals,function,and rangefor your
measurement.
NOTE:
-Whenonlythefigure ‘OL’isdisplayed,itindicates
overrangesituation andthehigherrangehastobe
selected.
-Whenthevaluescaletobemeasured isunknown
beforehand,settherangeselectoratthehighest
position.
- “ ” meansthesocket of INPUTmaximumcurrentis

4.3Resistancemeasurement
-Connect theblacktest lead totheCOMjackand the
redtest lead tothe Ωjack.
-Set thetransformswitchat the Ωrangeposition.
-Connecttestleadsacrosstheresistanceunder
measurement.
-Youcangetreading fromLCD.
Toavoidelectricalshock and/or damageto
theinstrument,disconnectcircuitpowerand
dischargeall high-voltagecapacitorsbefore
measuring resistance.
NOTE:
-Formeasuring resistanceabove1MΩ,themetermay
takeafewsecondstostabilizereading.Thisisnormal
forhigh resistancemeasuring.
-Iftheresistancebeing measured exceedsthe
maximumvalueoftherangeselected ortheinputis
notconnected,anoverrangeindication "1"will be
displayed..
4.4Diodetest
-Set therotaryswitchto range.
-Connecttheblackand redtestleadstotheCOMand
Ωterminalsrespectively.
-Connect theredtest lead totheanode, blacktest lead
tothecathodeofthediodeundertesting.
-Themeterwill showtheapprox. forwardvoltageofthe

diode.Ifthelead connectionisreversed,onlyfigure
"1"displayed.
Toavoidelectricalshock and/or damageto
theinstrument,disconnectcircuitpowerand
dischargeall high-voltagecapacitorsbefore
testing diodes.
4.5Continuitytest
-Set therotaryswitchto range.
-Connecttheblackand redtestleadstotheCOMand
Ωterminalsrespectively.
-Connectthetestleadstotheresistanceinthecircuit
being measured.
-Whenthetestleadtothecircuitisbelow50Ω,a
continuousbeeping will indicateit.
Toavoidelectricalshock and/or damageto
theinstrument,disconnectcircuitpowerand
dischargeall high-voltagecapacitorsbefore
testing for Continuity.
4.6Temperaturemeasurement(OnlyMS8221B)
-Set thetransformswitchat theTEMPrangeposition.
-TheLCDdisplaywill showthecurrentenvironment
temperature.
-Whenmeasuring thetemperaturewiththermocouple,
‘K’typeprobeforthismetercanbeused.Insertthe
blackplug totheCOMjackand thered onetothe
TEMPjack, touchtheend ofthetemperaturesensor

tothearea orsurfaceof theobjectformeasurement.
-Youcangetreading fromLCD.
To avoidelectricalshock,donotconnectthe
thermocouples withtheelectriferouscircuit.
4.7Batterytest(onlyMS8221D)
-Set therotaryswitchtodesired BATT range.
-Connecttheblackand redtestleadstotheCOMand
VΩterminalsrespectively.
-Connectthetestleadsacrossthebatteryterminals
undermeasurement.
-Read LCDdisplayanddetermineifthebatteryisOK.
4.8Transistormeasurement
-Set therotaryswitchtohFE range.
-DeterminewhetherthetransistortobetestedisNPN
orPNPtypeandlocatetheEmitter,Baseand
Collectorleads.
-InsertleadsofthetransistorintoproperholesofthehFE
socket.
-Themeterwill showtheapprox.hFEvalueattest
conditionofbasecurrent 10μAandVce2.8V.
Toavoidelectrical shock and/ordamagetothe
instrument,beforeattemptingtoinsert
transistorsfortesting,alwaysbesurethattest
leadshavebeendisconnectedfromany
measurementcircuits．

5.MAINTENANCE
5.1GeneralMaintenance
Periodicallywipethecasewithadampclothandmild
detergent. Donotuseabrasivesorsolvents.
Dirtormoistureintheterminalscanaffect readings.
Tocleantheterminals:
¥Turnthemeteroffand removeall test leads.
¥Shakeoutanydirt that maybeintheterminals.
¥Soakanewswab withacleaning and oilingagent
(suchasWD-40).
¥Worktheswabaround ineachterminal.Theoiling
agentinsulatestheterminalsfrommoisture-related
contamination.
Toavoidelectricalshockordamagetothe
meter,donotgetwaterinsidethecase.
Removethetestleadsand anyinputsignals
beforeopeningthecase
5.2Fuse replacement
ToreplacetheMeter'sfuse(seetheFigure):
-Set therotaryswitchto OFF range.
-Disconnect test leadsfromanyinputsterminals.
-Useascrewdrivertounscrewthetwoscrewssecured
on thebatterycover.
-Separatethebatterycoverfromthebottomcase.
-Replacethefuseonlywithspecified ratings:
F200mA/250V ∅5×20 (quickacting).
-Replacethebatterycoverand securebythetwo
screws.

Beforereplacing thefuse,disconnecttest
leadsfromanycircuitundertest.
Topreventdamageor injury,replace thefuse
onlywithspecifiedratings.
5.3Batteryreplacement
Toreplacethebattery(see theFigure):
-Whenthebatteryvoltagedrop belowproperoperation
rangethe symbolwill appearontheLCD display
and thebatteryneed tobereplaced.
-Turnthemeteroff and removeall test leads.
-Useascrewdrivertounscrewthetwoscrewssecured
on thebatterycover,and removethebatterycover.
-Replacethebatterywiththree new1.5Vbattery
(AAA).
-Reinstall thebatterycoverandsecurebythetwo
screws.
Beforereplacing thebattery,disconnecttest
leadsfromanycircuitundertest,turn the
meteroff and remove testleadsfromthe
inputterminals.
