3.1Operating Principle
The followinginstructionswerecompiled toprovide youinformation on howtoobtainlong
and troublefree useofthe unit. Periodicmaintenanceofthisunitisessential.Readthe
manualinitsentiretyandfollowthe instructionscarefully.Failuretodo somayinjure
yourselforabystander.
3.2DeliveryChecks
Immediatelyontakingdeliveryofyournewequipment andbeforeputtingit intoservice.
lRead theoperation manualcompletely—itcouldsaveagreatdealofunnecessary
expense.
lRead theengine manualsupplied.
lCheck the generalcondition ofthe equipment –hasit been damaged duringdelivery?
lCheck engine oil level.
lCheck fuellevels.
Recommended lubricantsaredetailedintheCareandMaintenancesection.
3.3BeforeStarting
ThefollowingPre-start-upinspectionmustbeperformedbeforethestartofeachwork
sessionoraftereveryfourhoursofuse,whicheverisfirst.Ifanyfaultisdiscovered,the
compactormust notbeuseduntil the fault isrectified.
1.Thoroughlyinspectthe compactorforsignsofdamage.Check componentsare
presentand secure.Payspecialattentiontothe beltdrivesafetyguardfitted
betweentheengineandthevibratorunit.
2.Check theengineoil levelandtop upasnecessary.
3.Check theenginefuellevelandtop upasnecessary.
4.Check forfueland oil leaks.
NOTICE: Check the oil levelinthe engine and exciter. Engine and compactorwarrantiesare
VOIDifthisunit isrun without oil.

3.4ToStart
3.4.1DieselEngine
1.Oil filling andlevelinspectionsmust becarried outwiththeengineonaflatsurface.
2.Removeoil filtercap,pourtheoil inand reassembleoil cap.
3.Makesurethat isnearlyat max., fitthedipstick correctlyback inplace
4.Check andrefill oil uptothemaximumlevel.
5.Shouldstart-upbe difficult, purgeairfromunion asindicatedinthe figure.
6.Donot fill the fueltankcompletely,butjustupto1cm(0.39in)fromthetopof the
tank,toprovidespaceforfuelmovement.Wipeanyfuelspillagefromenginebefore
starting.
7.Removefueltankcap.Pourthe fuelandreassemblefueltankcap.Withlow
ambienttemperatures(-10°C)add specificadditivestodieselfuel,toavoidparaffine
crystalssolidification.
8.Toeliminateanypossiblewateranddirtresidue fromthetankbottom,removethe
plug(A)andopen the cock(B)toenabledischarging.Oncetheoperationisover,
closethecock andscrewbackthe protecting plug.
9.Acceleratorat50%speed.

10. Takethe handleandpull softlytheropeuntil itisextended toitsfull limit. Letthe
roperewindcompletely.Start theenginepullingstronglytherope.
11. Tostoptheengine,leverand/orkeyinstopposition,acceleratorleverinstop
position.
3.4.2PetrolEngine
1.Openthe fueltapbymovingthefuelON/OFF
leverfullytothe right.
2.Ifstartingtheenginefromcold,setthechokeON
bymovingthechokeleverfullytotheleft.If
restartingawarm engine,thechokeisusuallynot
required.However,iftheenginehascooledtoa
degree, partialchokemayberequired.
3.TurntheengineON/OFF switchclockwisetothe
“1”position.
4.Setthethrottletotheidleposition bymovingthe throttleleverfullytothe right. Do
notstarttheengineonfull throttle,asthecompactorwill vibrateassoonasthe
enginestarts.
5.Takingafirm holdofthecontrolhandlewithonehand,grasptherecoil starter
handlewiththeother. Pull therecoilstarteruntilengine resistanceisfelt, thenlet
starterreturn.
6.Takingcarenottopull thestarter’scopefullyout, pull the starterhandlebriskly.
7.Repeatuntil theenginefires.
8.Oncethe enginefiresgradually,setthechokelevertotheOFFpositionbymoving
it totheright.
9.Ifthe enginefailstofireafterseveralattempts, followthetrouble-shootingguide.
10.Tostop the engine,setthe throttletoidleandturntheengine ON/OFF switch
anticlockwisetothe “0”position.
11.Turnthe fueloff.

3.7Operation
Runengineatfullthrottleandallowplatetopull itselfalongatitsnormalspeed.When
operatingitmaybe necessarytoassistplatebypushing itforwardslightly.Depending
on thematerialbeing compacted,threeorfourpassesarerecommendedtoachievethe
bestcompaction.
The machineisbest suited tothecompactionofbituminousand granularmaterialse.g.
granularsoilssuchassiltandclayarebestcompactedusingtheimpact forceproduced
byavibratingrammer.Wherepossiblethesiteshouldbegraded andleveled before
commencing compaction.
Correctmoisturecontentinsoil isvitaltopropercompaction.Wateractsasalubricant
tohelpslidesoil particlestogether.Toolittlemoisturemeansinadequatecompaction;
too muchmoistureleaveswater-filledvoidsthatweaken thesoil’sload-bearingability.
Compactionofdrymaterialswill befacilitatedbymoisteningwithawaterhosefitted
withasprinkler. Excessivewatering orwatercontentwill causethemachinetostall.
The optionalwatertankkitisrecommended whenthemachineisusedonbituminous
surfacesasthewaterfilmpreventsabuildup ofmaterialonthe underside oftheplate.

4.2Exciter
When changingthe exciteroil, removethe drainplug locatedat the bottom-rightofthe
vibrator,andsimplytipthecompactortodraintheoil. Notethat theoil will drainmore
easilywhileit ishot.

4.3V-beltand Clutch
4.3.1Checking theV-belt
After200hoursofoperation,removetheupperbelt
covertochecktheV-belttension (Figure2).Tension is
properifthebeltbendsabout10mm whendepressed
stronglywithfingerbetweenshafts.Looseorworn
V-beltsreducespowertransmissionefficiency,causing
weakcompactionandreducesthe lifeofthebelt itself.
NEVER attempttocheck theV-beltwiththeengine running.Severe
injurycanoccurifyourhand getscaughtbetweentheV-beltandthe
clutch.Always usesafetygloves.
4.3.2Replacing theV-belt
Removethe beltcovers. Engagean offsetwrench(13mm) orthe liketovibratorpulley(lower)
fasteningbolt. Engagewasteclothorthe likeatmidwayofV-belton the left side and while
pullingit back strongly, rotatetheoffset wrenchclockwisesothat the V-belt will comeoff.
4.3.3Checking theClutch
ChecktheclutchsimultaneouslywithV-beltchecking.Withbeltremoved,checkouter
drumof theclutchforseizureand “V”grooveforwearordamagewithyoureyes. Clean
the “V”grooveasnecessary.Wearoflining orshoeshouldbechecked withrunning
check.Ifthe shoeisworn,powertransmission becomesdeficientandslippingwill
result.
Wheneverthecompactor’svibrationbecomesweakorlostduring
normaloperation regardless ofoperation hours,check theV-beltand
clutchimmediately.
4.4AirCleaner
1.The airfilterelementshouldbecleanedbecauseaclogged
aircleanercancausepoorenginestarting, lackofpowerand
shorten enginelifesubstantially.
2.Tocleanorreplaceairfilterloosen thewingnuton theair
filterhousing (Figure1), removethe coverand takeoutair
filtercartridge. If onlycleaningof theairfilterisdesired blow
throughthe airfiltercartridge fromtheinside, moving ajet of
drycompressedairupanddownuntil all dustisremoved.

Check andcleansparkplugsregularly.Afouled,dirtysparkplugmaycausehard
startingand poorengineperformance. Setsparkplug gaptorecommended clearance.
Refertoenginemanual.
The mufflerandenginecylinderbecomeveryhot duringoperationand
remainhot forawhileafterstopping theengine.Allowenginetocool
beforeremovingsparkplug.
NOTICE:Aloosesparkplug canbecomeveryhotandmaycauseenginedamage.
4.6Transporting Trowels
