Only For Use in Rear-Facing Mode
Small Infant Positioning Pillow
When used, the small infant positioning
pillow MUST be used with the back pillow.
This pillow helps position your infant in the
seat to achieve proper harness fit.
To determine if the pillow is needed:
1. Place the headrest in lowest position.
2. Place your infant in the car seat without the
pillow.
3. Make sure your infant’s bottom and back
are flat against the car seat.
4. Refer to the diagrams below:
For Use in Rear-Facing Mode or
Forward-Facing Mode
Spring Assist Out-of-the-Way Harness Covers
Harness covers help provide comfort to your child’s neck. If the
harness covers will not allow proper positioning of the chest clip or
interfere with getting a tight enough harness fit for a smaller baby,
remove them and DO NOT use.
Store until your child is large enough to use the harness covers
while maintaining a properly fitting harness.
To remove:
1. Undo the fasteners on the headrest pad.
2. Pull the fastening strips on the harness
covers apart.
3. Pull the harness straps out of the harness
covers.
4. Slide the harness covers out from behind
the headrest pad.
To install:
1. Undo the fasteners on the headrest pad.
2. With the front of the harness covers facing
you, slide them behind the headrest pad.
3. Pull the harness covers down towards you
and place the harness straps into the harness
covers.
4. Fasten the harness covers.

Check often to see how much your infant has grown.
Remove the infant pillow once they can sit in the car seat without the
infant pillow and the harness slots are at or below their shoulders
AND you can still achieve a snug harness fit.

Spring Assist Out-of-the-Way
Buckle Cover
To remove, slide the buckle cover off the
buckle. Pull it out of the seat pad.
To install, slide the buckle cover over the
buckle and into the buckle slot in the seat
pad.
NOTE: The buckle cover only goes through
the slot in the pad and NOT through the
buckle slot in the car seat. It lays flat
underneath the pad as shown.
For Use in All Modes
Removable Cup Holders
(on select models)
The cup holders are top-rack
dishwasher safe.
To remove, twist the cup holder
counterclockwise. Pull it out of the slot
in the car seat.
To install, align the tabs on the bottom
of the cup holder with the slots in the
car seat. Twist clockwise to lock in
place.
Only For Use in Rear-Facing Mode
Head & Back Pillow
The head and back pillow MUST be
used together.
To remove head pillow, pull it out from
behind the back pillow.
To remove back pillow, loosen the
harness straps and slide it out from
behind the harness straps.

BOOSTER SEAT MODE
40-100 lb (18-45 kg) and 43-57 in. (110-145 cm)
In this car seat, your child can remain in a Booster Seat until
they outgrow any one of the following:
• Weight Limit: 100 lb (45 kg); OR
• Height Limit: 57 in. (145 cm); OR
• Booster Seat Child Fit requirements, see page 61.
Choosing Car Seat Mode
Your child’s height, weight, and age determine how the car seat
should be placed in the vehicle.
Children vary widely in body size, shape, and temperament—
please consult your doctor before switching between any
modes within the limits and fit requirements of the car seat.
State Laws
Please be certain to follow your state’s laws
regarding car seat use.
American Academy of Pediatrics Recommendations
Infants and Toddlers
Should ride in a rear-facing car seat as long as possible, until they
reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat.
Toddlers and Preschoolers
Once they are facing forward, children should use a forward-facing
car seat with a harness for as long as possible, until they reach the
height and weight limits for their car seats.
School-Aged Children
Once they have outgrown their forward-facing car seat, children
should use a belt-positioning booster seat until the vehicle’s lap
and shoulder seat belt fits properly. This is often when they have
reached at least 4 feet 9 inches in height and are 8 to 12 years old.
Older Children
All children younger than 13 years should be restrained in the rear
seats of vehicles for optimal protection.
REAR-FACING MODE
5-40 lb (2.3-18 kg) and 40 in. (102 cm) or less in height
Children under 1 year of age MUST ride Rear-Facing.
In this car seat, your child can remain Rear-Facing until
they outgrow any one of the following:
• Weight Limit: 40 lb (18 kg); OR
• Height Limit: 40 in. (102 cm); OR
• Rear-Facing Child Fit requirements, see page 11.
FORWARD-FACING MODE
22-65 lb (10-29 kg) and 29-49 in. (74-125 cm)
Children MUST be at least 1 year of age to ride Forward-Facing.
In this car seat, your child can remain harnessed Forward-Facing
until they outgrow any one of the following:
• Weight Limit: 65 lb (29 kg); OR
• Height Limit: 49 in. (125 cm); OR
• Forward-Facing Child Fit requirements, see page 12.

and rotate the car seat until it

proper height for your child.

Make sure the headrest is locked

To Fully Raise Headrest
You may need to raise the adjustable
torso into Position 2 to access the
highest headrest position. See page 18.
Then squeeze the headrest adjustment
handle and move the headrest all the way
up.
You can then adjust the torso back into Position 1 if desired.

Changing Torso PositionReclining Car Seat
To Recline: Place one hand on the back of the car seat. With your
other hand, squeeze the recline handle. The car seat will rotate in
the base. Release the recline handle to lock the car seat into place.
For More Upright: Place one hand on the back of the car seat.
With your other hand, squeeze the recline handle and pull the top
of the car seat forward. Release the recline handle to lock the car
seat into place.
To Change Positions:
Push the torso adjustment buttons in on both sides of the car seat
while sliding the adjustable torso up or down.
Release the buttons to lock the torso in place. Hold the sides of the
torso and move it up and down to make sure it is securely locked
into place.

This car seat has multiple positions. This car seat has an adjustable torso.

LATCH: Lower Anchor Belt
Your vehicle’s features may be considerably different
than those pictured here.
The lower anchors of LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for
CHildren) is a universal system for installing car seats without using
vehicle seat belts.
The lower anchor belt can ONLY be used in vehicles that have the
lower anchor bars installed in designated seating positions. Most
vehicles manufactured after September 2002 are equipped with
lower anchor bars.
Check your vehicle owner’s manual to see which seating positions
may be equipped with LATCH: lower anchor bars.
DO NOT use both the lower anchor belt and vehicle belt at the
same time.

You MUST Review Your
Vehicle Owner’s Manual
Your vehicle owner’s manual will let
you know which vehicle belts and
seating positions car seats can be
installed in.
Your vehicle’s features may be considerably different
than those pictured here.
If lower anchors are not an option or if your child weighs more than
35 lb (15.9 kg) for Rear-Facing or 40 lb (18 kg) for Forward-
Facing, you MUST use the vehicle seat belt system to install the car
seat.
Not all vehicle belts and seating positions will work with car
seats.
Please go through the following steps to understand how to
lock a car seat in Rear-Facing or Forward-Facing mode with a
vehicle belt.
Check How This Car Seat
Will Be Locked Into Place
The vehicle belt MUST NOT
loosen after tightening. This
means there needs to be a way to
lock the vehicle belt.
The AutoLock
When used correctly, this car
seat’s AutoLock will lock the
vehicle belt.
Please go to the correct vehicle
belt installation section of the
manual to learn how to properly
use this feature.

If you do not use this feature, you MUST lock the vehicle belt
using the retractor or the latch plate. Continue to step 4.
The ways this can be done are:
• By using this car seat’s built-in AutoLock (see step 3); OR
• By using the seat belt’s retractor (see step 4); OR
• By using the seat belt’s latch plate (see step 5).

Types of Retractors Check Latch Plates
Latch plates are the part of
the seat belt that goes into the
buckle.
To see if the latch plate
locks:
1. Buckle Vehicle Belt
2. Firmly Tug Lap Portion of
Seat Belt While Pulling It Up
If the vehicle belt does not slide
through the latch plate, it’s
locked.
If the latch plate slides up and
down the vehicle belt, it is a
sliding latch plate.
Sliding latch plates easily slip
between the lap and shoulder
portions of the belt.
If you have an Emergency
Locking Retractor with a
Sliding Latch Plate, you
MUST use a locking clip.

Automatic Locking Retractor
Switchable Retractor
(most vehicles have this type)
This retractor always locks.
It will automatically lock after slowly pulling the seat belt out at
least halfway and letting the belt go back into the retractor 1-2 in.
(2.5-5 cm).
If the retractor does not lock, it is most likely an Emergency
Locking Retractor. These retractors only lock during a sudden stop
or collision.
You will need to determine if your seat belt’s latch plate can lock
the belt. See step 5, “Check Latch Plates”.
This retractor can be switched to a locking mode.
You MUST have the retractor in the locking mode to use the
seat belt with this car seat.
Switching to locking mode: Slowly pull the shoulder belt all the
way out, then let it go back in 1-2 in. (2.5-5 cm).
As it goes back in, you will most likely hear a ratcheting sound.
Gently pull the belt to see if it has locked. You will not be able to
pull any more belt out if the lock has engaged.

Your vehicle’s features may be considerably different
than those pictured here.
You MUST always attach, adjust, and secure the top
anchorage (tether) strap when installing the car seat forward-
facing with the internal harness. Tethers improve the installation
and stability of car seats and reduce the risk of injury.
Attach the tether hook to the tether anchor designated by your
vehicle manufacturer for that seating position. Check your vehicle
owner’s manual for more information.
If the seating position does not have a tether anchor, use a
different seating position or see your dealer or a qualified
mechanic and have one installed.
Using this child restraint without the tether strap anchored as
recommended by the manufacturer would be a misuse of the
child restraint and, in a sudden stop or crash, could result in
serious injury or death.
DO NOT fasten multiple tether hooks on the same tether
anchor in the vehicle.
For Forward-Facing Mode Only

The tether strap MUST be properly
stored in its storage location when:
• installing in Rear-Facing Mode;
OR
• using the Booster Seat Mode; OR
• the car seat is not installed in a
vehicle.
Attach the tether hook to its storage
location as shown. Gently tighten to
remove slack.

NEVER install a rear-facing child restraint in the front
seat of a vehicle equipped with an active frontal airbag.
DO NOT use the top tether for rear-facing mode.
Secure tether strap to its storage location.
DO NOT use the lower anchors of the child restraint anchorage
system (LATCH system) to attach this child restraint when
restraining a child weighing more than 35 lb (15.9 kg). The vehicle
belt MUST be used for installation if your child weighs more than
35 lb (15.9 kg).
DO NOT use the lower anchor belt along with the vehicle lap or
lap/shoulder belt.
Check the vehicle belt or the lower anchor belt before each use.
Use only if the belt can be tightened properly and locked securely
in place.
DO NOT fasten multiple lower anchor connectors on the same

• Thread the vehicle belt into
the Rear-Facing Belt Path
opening.
• You can locate the seat
belt latch plate by feeling it
through the 3rd buckle slot
in seat pad.
• Pull it across the seat and in
front of the car seat buckle.
• Then thread it out through
the other belt path opening.
• DO NOT twist the belt.
TIP
It may be easier for you to route the vehicle belt if you undo
the seat pad fasteners and pull the seat pad off the front of
the car seat.
• Remove the cup holders. Twist counterclockwise and lift.
• Pull the car seat pad off the front of the car seat to reveal the
Rear-Facing Belt Path.
• You will see the lower anchor belt when you pull back the pad.
DO NOT remove this belt from its storage location. The vehicle
belt will be routed over top of it.

Check Belt Tightness
• Hold the car seat ONLY at

non-dominant hand.
• Push and pull the car seat
from side to side.
• The car seat should not move
more than 1 in. (2.5 cm).
If it moves more than 1 in. (2.5 cm), you can try:
• Tightening the belt more; OR
• Reinstalling the car seat; OR
• Changing to a different seating location; OR
• Switching to LATCH: lower anchor belt installation. See
page 34.

Vehicle Belt Install
When used correctly, the AutoLock
will lock the vehicle belt in place.
After the car seat has been
installed, if your car has a
switchable retractor, you MUST also use it to lock the belt.
Review pages 21-24 and your vehicle owner’s manual to
determine how to lock the belt with the retractor.
Check the tightness of the install often to make sure it has not
loosened.
IMPORTANT! DO NOT use the AutoLock feature when
installing with LATCH: lower anchor belts.
DO NOT use the lower anchors of the child restraint anchorage
system (LATCH system) to attach this child restraint when
restraining a child weighing more than 35 lb (15.9 kg).
