Installation guide
The purpose of this document is to provide a quick start guide for Extrium DT42, by providing answers of
basic installation and operation of the product.
If you don’t find the information you need about the Extrium DT42 in this guide, then you should read the
Extrium DT42 complete user guide.
Package content
Before starting, you should verify your package content.
Extrium DT42 is shipped with the following content:
Power Supply:
Connect only MCDI approved power supply to main power input. Output: 5V AC, 1.2A.
USB to Serial Cable:
Extrium DT42 is supplied with a USB to serial cable. Use Null Modem cable to connect external receiver.
Connect it in the USB type A on the Extrium DT42.
Serial Cable (NULL MODEM):
Extrium DT42 is supplied with a Null Modem serial cable
USB cable:
Extrium DT42 is supplied with 2M USB type A to mini-B cable. Connect in Extrium DT42 mini-B type port
while other end is connected to USB hub or PC type A port.
Ethernet cables:
Extrium DT42 is supplied with an Ethernet cable. If needed a longer cable, always use good quality cat 5
wiring with proper wiring arrangement.
Micro-SD Card:
Extrium DT42 is supplied with a micro-SD card. This SD Card SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED WHEN SYSTEM
IS UP.
The micro-SD Card is used to store alarm events. Removing it when system is up will cause instability of
the system.

Extrium DT42 Ports Description
Ethernet
Used for web configuration access and sending TCP alarm events to STReceiver or TcpToCom.
Used also for IP reception.
Serial input
Serial input can be used to plug an external receiver.
Multiple input format are supported: MCDI, SURGARD MLR2, ADEMCO, SILENT KNIGHT.
USB to PC port
USB output port.
It is used to send alarm event to PC over USB.
USB device ports
You can connect USB compatible receiver on this port, or use a USB-to-serial cable to pug a serial receiver.
CPU reset
Use this button to reset/reboot the whole unit:
-1 Second will reset the unit
-8 Second will force halt
Micro-SD Card
Micro-SD card memory slot.
NOTE: If you want to change the micro-SD, power the unit down
NOTE2: micro-SD card capacity limit accepted by Extrium DT42 is 32GB

Quick installation
Have a look on the following schematic to help you with the Extrium DT42 installation and cables
connection.
You should plug only what you want to use.

Start Extrium DT42
Extrium DT42 doesn’t have a on/off button. From the moment the Extrium DT42 is powered, it will start.
Boot time of the Extrium DT42 application is typically less than 1 minute.

Restart/reboot Extrium DT42
If you need to restart the Extrium DT42, use the reset button located at the back of the unit. Pressing reset
button will reboot the unit properly. During reboot, the reset button led should blink. The operation can
take from 1 to 5 minutes. If you have any trouble, you can force power off by pressing the reset button
during 8 seconds.
How to access settings
Default IP addresses
By default, the Extrium DT42 will try to acquire an IP address from DHCP server.
If you don’t have DHCP server, or if it fails to obtain an IP address Extrium DT42 will use address
192.168.1.215.
Default login
The default login in Extrium DT42 is:
Login name: admin
Password: admin
Retrieve the current IP address
If you don’t know the current IP address of your Extrium DT42, you can retrieve the IP address from your
router DHCP table.
You can find your unit MAC address on a sticker on the unit case.
Log into the embedded web configuration tools
Extrium DT42 uses an embedded web server to configure and manage all the settings and the account
database.
The web server is powered by goahead web server.
To use it, you need to use a third party web client with support of javascript (see supported web client
below).
Go to you web client address bar, and then type the Extrium DT42 main IP address and press “enter”.

If you typed the correct IP address, and if your web client Javascript is enabled, then you should
see the login page.

Extrium DT42 web pages are using advance and powerful combination of HTML/CSS/Javascript.
List of compatible web client:
-Firefox (versions 5.0 and above)
-Chrome (every versions)
-Safari (every OSX versions)

How to add external receiver
First step: log into the Extrium DT42 web server, and enter your login details.
Then, click on the “configuration” button:

A new page should open.
Here, you have to go click on the menu “Setup -> Inputs ->
Receiver 1”:

This will open the receiver 1 settings page.
Configuration is pretty simple.
First, choose the input receiver type:

Now, you can set settings according to your receiver. Select the output format of your receiver, the baud
rate and if you want to use heartbeat for receiver monitoring.

First step: log into the Extrium DT42 web server, and enter your login details.
Then, click on the “Configuration” button:

A new page should open.
Here, you have to go click on the menu “Setup -> Output -> Ports Settings”:

Select the serial as the main output:

Then, click on the “USB Port” tab and set the settings like it is shown in the following screenshot:

Baud rate is not necessary here. It will be set in your operating system driver.
Once you’re done, don’t forget to click on the “Save” button.

How to set Extrium DT42 to send alarm by TCP IP port
First step: log into the Extrium DT42 web server, and enter your login details.
Then, click on the “Configuration” button:

A new page should open.
Here, you have to go click on the menu “Setup -> Output -> Ports Settings”:

Select the Main IP as the main output:

Then, click on the “Main IP” tab and set the settings like it is shown in the following screenshot:

Off course, set the different parameters according to your needs.

-IP address: IP address where the alarm will be sent
-Port: IP port
-Password: eventually, not mandatory
Once you’re done, don’t forget to click on the “Save” button.
Add a new server
Server definition
A server is a part of the Extrium program that listens on a TCP or UDP port and waits for incoming
connections.
Every server can listen for one particular protocol on one particular TCP or UDP port.
A server is associated with one, and only one, IP protocol.
You can use several servers in one Extrium (with a limit of 10).

How to add a server
To add a server in the Extrium system, follow the previous steps to go to the IP reception settings via the
web server.
You should now see the server list page.
It contains a list of already running servers if any.
Click “New Server” on the left menu to open the add server page.

A new page should open. This new page allows you to choose what kind of server you want to add and
open the parameters needed for the protocol you choose.

Depending on which protocol you choose to use, there are different settings to provide.
Following sections detail all parameters and settings needed by each protocol.
ROEL Multicomm server parameters details
To add a new ROEL Multicomm server, follow the steps described on the previous section “How to add a
server”, and choose “ROEL” in the protocol selector.

Here is the detail of the parameters needed for ROEL protocol:
Listening port:
Define the server listening port. ROEL use TCP protocol.
Panel Timeout:
Define the default value for panel timeout. This value is in seconds.
If a panel doesn’t send anything during a time superior than the set value, then a timeout event will be
send to the user.
Maximum Connections:
Maximum simultaneous connections allowed for this server. The default is 50.
If you network problem or panel timeout occurs, then you should adjust this value.
To save the server, click on the button
3i/Pegasus server parameters details
To add a new 3i/Pegasus server, follow the steps described on the previous section “How to add a server”,
and choose “Pegasus (3i)” in the protocol selector.

Here is the detail of the parameters needed for Pegasus/3i protocol:
Listening port:
Define the server listening port. 3i/Pegasus use TCP protocol.
Panel Timeout:
Define the default value for panel timeout. This value is in seconds.
If a panel doesn’t send anything during a time superior than the set value, then a timeout event will be
send to the user.
Maximum Connections:
Maximum simultaneous connections allowed for this server. The default is 100.
If you network problem or panel timeout occurs, then you should adjust this value.
Protocol:
For now, only protocol 1 is available.
To save the server, click on the button
Paradox IPDOX server parameters details
To add a new Paradox IPDOX server, follow the steps described on the previous section “How to add a
server”, and choose “IPDOX” in the protocol selector.

Here is the detail of the parameters needed for IPDOX protocol:
Listening port:
Define the server listening port. IPDOX use TCP protocol.
Maximum Connections:
Maximum simultaneous connections allowed for this server. The default is 50.
If you network problem or panel timeout occurs, then you should adjust this value.
Password:
Password shared between server and IP panels.
Profiles:
IPDOX protocol does not have Panel timeout.
It uses three set of profiles to define different timing proper to Paradox Panels programming.
