servicecontractdoesnotcoveranyshippingcosts

2.AnyMclntoshauthorizedserviceagencywill
repairallMclntoshinstrumentsatnormalservice
rates.Toreceivethefreeserviceundertheterms
oftheservicecontract,theservicecontractcer-

takentotheserviceagency.
3.Alwayshaveservicedonebya Mclntoshauthoriz-
edserviceagency.Ifthe instrument ismodified or
damaged as a result of unauthorized repair the
service contract will becancelled. Damagebyim-
properuseormishandlingisnotcoveredbythe
servicecontract.
4.Theservicecontractisissuedtoyouasthe
originalpurchaser.Toprotectyoufrom
misrepresentationthiscontractcannotbetransfer-
redtoa secondowner.
5.UnitsinoperationoutsidetheUnitedStatesand
CanadaarenotcoveredbytheMclntoshFactory
ServiceContract,irrespectiveoftheplaceofpur-

TheMclntoshinfraredRemoteControlSystempro-
videsunusualversatilitywithoperatingsimplicity.It
isa systemwhichprovidesremotecontrolinone
listeningareayetcanbeexpandedtoprovidein-
dividualsourceselectionwithindependentvolume
settingsinuptofiveadditionalareas.Ineachof
theseareas,whenconnectedtoa Mclntoshtuner,
designedtoconnecttotheinfraredremotecontrol
system,anda Mclntoshcompactdiscplayer:
1)youcanturnontheACpowertothelocalarea
orturnofftheACpowerforthelocalareaonly
orforallareas;
2)youcanselectthelisteningsoundsource
(tuner,compactdisc,orpreamplifier)forthe
localareawhileotherareascanchoosetheir
listeningsourceindependently;
3)youcanadjustthevolumeinthelocalareaand
notaffectthevolumeinotherareas;
4)whenthetuneristhesoundsource,youcan
selectthestationsyouwishtohearoneither
AMorFManddependingonthetuner,scan
thepresetstationsoneitherAMorFMor
searchtheentireAMorFMband;
5)Whenthecompactdiscplayeristhesound
source,youcanputtheCDplayerintheplay
mode,shifttothenexttrackortheproceeding
trackonthediscorstoptheplayfromthedisc;
or
6)youcanselectthepreamplifierasa program
sourcewithallofitsconnectedsources.
ToillustratethecontrolversatilityoftheMclntosh
infraredRemoteControlSystem,withthehand-held
remotecontroller,youcanturnontheACpowerfor
thatequipment,whichfeedsprogrammaterialtoa
listeningarea,withoutturningontheACpowerfor
otherareas.Whileyouarclisteningtoa compact
discinthemainarea,someoneinanotherareacan
turnontheACpowerfortheirareaandelectto
listentoFM.Whenyouarethroughlisteninginyour
area,youcan turnofftheACpowertoyourarea
whilethelistenerintheotherareacontinuesto
listentothetuner.Eachareacanadjusttheirown
volumewithoutaffectingtheotherareasvolume.In
addition,theACpowertoallareascanbeturnedoff
bya hand-heldcontrollerinanyarea.
Yourlisteningcommandsareexecutedbypressing
theselectedbuttonsonthehand-heldremotecon-
troller.Whenyoupressa buttonthecontroller
transmits,viaaninfraredbeam,a twelvebitcom-
mandsignal.Thereceiverforthesesignalsisanin-
fraredsensoronthefrontoftheCR7 remotecon-
trol
module
orthe
Mclntosh

Sensor.
Remotesensorsaredesignedtobeinstalledinan
electricalswitchboxforinwallorceilinginstallation.
Ordinaryvideodistributioncable,RG-59/U,connects
theremotesensortotheMclntoshinfraredControl
Modules.
TheCR8containstheinterconnectingcircuits,the
remotestationdatadecoderandswitchfacilitiesfor
asecondorremotearea.Theonlyfrontpanelin-
dicatorisa redLEDwhichlightswhentheremote
areaACpoweristurnedon.

Thetouch-buttonsontheblackanodizedaluminum
frontpane!oftheCR7controlACpowertothelocal
area,sourceselection,systemmuteandvolume.In
theupperrightisaninfraredsensorwhichreceives
thecontroldatatransmittedbythehand-heldremote
controller.Inadditiontothetouch-buttonsonthe
CR7,thesefunctionsandmore,canbeinitiatedby
thehand-heldremotecontroller.
POWER
TheredPOWERtouch-buttonontheCR7andthe
POWERbuttonontheremotecontrolturntheAC
poweronorofftothelocalarea.WhenACpoweris
turnedon,thesystemswitchesautomaticallytothe
tuner,withvolumesetto40dBbelowfullvolume.
Thestationheardwillbethelastonetunedwhenthe
systemwasturnedoff.A greenLEDabovetheTUNER
touch-buttonwilllight.ACpowertothelocalareais
turnedoffwhenthePOWERbuttononeitherthe
hand-heldcontrollerortheCR7ispressed.Toturn
offACpowerinallareasfirstturnofftheACpower
locallybypressingPOWERfollowedbypressingboth
VOLUMEandVOLUMEsimultaneously.
SOURCESELECTION
Tolistentothecompactdiscplayer,thetuneror
thepreamplifier,touchthecorrespondingbuttonon
thefrontpaneloronthehand-heldremotecon-
troller.A greenLEDabovethetouch-buttonwilllight
toindicatethesourceselected.
MUTE
Shouldyoudesiretosilencethesystembriefly,
touchtheMUTEbuttononeithertheCR7orthe
remotecontrol.A redLEDabovetheMUTEbutton
willlight,andtheprogramwillbesilenced.Tohear
theprogramagain,touchtheMUTEbuttona second
time.TheredLEDwillgooutandtheprogramwill
beheard.
VOLUME
VolumemaybeadjustedbyusingtheVOLUME
orVOLUMEbuttonsonthefrontpaneloronthe
remotecontrol.Adjustmentofthevolumeisperform-
edbyanelectronicallyswitched,precisionladderat-
tenuaior.TheMclntoshelectronicprecisionladderat-
tenuatoradjustsvolumebyC2MOStransistorswit-
chesthatselecttherightcombinationsofhighlyac-
curatedepositsofresistivematerial.Theentirerange
ofvolumeadjustmentis68dBin2 dBincrements.
Leftandrighttrackingiscontrolledtoa fractionofa
dB.Becausethevolumecontroldoesn'thavemoving
parts,thevolumeadjustmentcannotbemisaligned.
Unlikeordinaryvoltagecontrolledelectronicvolume
controls,theMclntoshprecisionladderattenuator
supportsthedistortion-free,low-noiseperformanceof
theMclntoshproducts.
SENSOR
TheinfraredsensorislocatedabovetheVOLUME
buttons.Whenusingthehand-heldcontrollera red
LEDinthecenterofthesensorwillflashtoindicate
receivingthetransmission.

WhenTheHR7(handheldcontroller),isactivated
bypressingbuttonsonthekeypad,ittransmitsa
twelvebitcodeonaninfraredcarrier.Whenreceiv-
edbytheinfraredsensor,thetransmitteddatais
decodedintheRemoteControlModule.Thein-
fraredsensorhasbeendesignedfora broadrecep-
tionanglesoitisusuallynotnecessarytopointthe
hand-heldcontrollerdirectlyatthesensor.

TurnstheACpoweronorofftothelocalarea.

SelectstheMclntoshCompactDiscPlayerasthe
sourceofsound.
PLAYPressbutton1 tolistentotheCDon

theREMOTECONTROLsocketonthetunerandthe
otherintotheTUNERCONTROLsocketontheCR7.
Thecaptivescrewsoneachendoftheconnector
mustbetightenedtopreventtheplugfromdiscon-
necting.Thesecondcablehas7 pinDINconnectors
oneachend.ItconnectstheMclntoshCompactDisc
PlayertotheCR7.InsertoneendintotheREMOTE
socketonthecompactdiscplayerandtheotherinto
theCDCONTROLsocketontheCR7.
AUDIO
Useshieldedcablestoconnectbetweenthesignal
sources,thepoweramplifierandtheCR7.Tominimize
thepossibilityofhumtheshieldedcablesshouldbeof
parallelconstructionorlooselytwistedtogetherand
locatedawayfromspeakerconnectingcablesandAC
powercords.Becertaintousegoodqualityshielded
cables.Yourdealercanbestadviseyouonthekind
and
length
of
cables
that
will
best
suit
your
installation.

poweramplifierinputwithshieldedcable.Connect

REMOTESENSOR
ShouldtheCR7frontpanelinfraredsensorbehid-
denfromviewwheninstalled,asina cabinet,a Mcln-
toshR607RemoteInfraredSensorcanbeused.Figure
2showstheadditionofa MclntoshR607RemoteSen-
sorwhichcanbefittedinanordinaryelectricalswitch
boxandinstalledintheceilingorwall.TheR607Re-
moteSensorisconnectedtotheCR7RemoteSYSTEM
SENSORconnectorwithupto300feetofRC-59/U
cableanda typeF connector.Choosea locationfor
theremotesensorthatwillnotbeobstructedbyfur-
niture,drapes,etc.andwillnotbeexposedtoexces-
siveamountsofdaylight.Obstructionswillinterfere
withthe"lineofsight"infraredtransmissionfromthe
hand-heldcontroller,whileexcessiveinfraredfrom
daylightcanaffecttheperformanceandsensitivityof
theRemoteControlSystem.

CR7controlsthesystemsourceandvolumeinthe
mainareawhiletheCR8performsthesamefunc-
tionsfortheremotearea.Becauseeachadditional
remoteareaaddedtothesystemhasitsownpower
amplifier,powerandperformanceareno!degraded
inthemainlisteningarea.
CONNECTINGFOR2 AREAREMOTECONTROL
IncludedwiththeCR8isa cablewith25pincom-
puterconnectorsoneachend.Connectoneendofthis
cabletotheTOAREACONTROLLERsocketontheCR7
andtheotherendtotheAREACONTROLLERINPUT
socketontheCR8.Thecaptivescrewsoneachendof
theconnectormustbelightenedtopreventtheplug
fromdisconnecting.Itconductsthecontrolsignals
whichoperatethevarioussourceandvolumefunctions
intheremotearea.
CR8
TheRemoteinfraredsensor,theR607,isinstalled
inthesecondareaandconnectedtotheCR8with
RC-59/Ucable.Choosea locationfortheremotesen-
sorthatwillnotbeobstructedbyfurniture,drapes,
etc.andwillnotbeexposedtoexcessiveamountsof
daylight.Obstructionswillinterferewiththe"lineof
sight"infraredtransmissionsfromthehand-held
