INTRODUCTION
1. General
This Optional Equipment Manual describes
the Universal Nose Mount (900F73090 0) for
the MD Explorer (MD900t) helicopter.
Whenever the installation or operation of this
equipment affects the operation of the basic
helicopter, appropriate mention of the affected
procedure, limitation, operation, will be
described in this supplement.
DExcept as modified by this optional
equipment manual, operation in com-
pliance with the basic maintenance
manual is mandatory.
DThe information presented in this op-
tional equipment manual is in addition
to the information found in the basic MD
900trotorcraft maintenance manual.
This optional equipment manual must
be used with the basic maintenance
manual to assure safe operation of the
aircraft.

2. MDHI Publications Revisions and
Reissues
Changes in the limitations, procedures,
performance, optional equipment, etc., require
revisions to the manual to change or replace
the content of the manual as appropriate. To
ensure that MDHI manuals continue to show
current changes revised information is
supplied as follows.
A. Revision
Change to parts of the manual by the replace
ment, addition and/or deletion of pages is done
by revision. The List of Effective Pages (LOEP)
that accompanies each revision, identifies all
affected pages. Such pages must be removed
from the manual and discarded. Added or
replaced pages must be put in and examined
against the List of Effective Pages (LOEP).
B. Reissues
Occasionally the manual may be reissued and
is identified as Reissue #1, Reissue #2, etc.
The preceding issue of the manual then
becomes obsolete and must be discarded. The
reissue includes all prior revisions. All pages in
a reissue become Original" pages. The reissue
may also include new or changed data.

MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. General
These Maintenance Practices are for the
Universal Nose Mount (900F7309080) on the
MD Ex lorert (MD900) helico ter.
2. Description
The Universal Nose Mount assembly
(900F7309080−101) is made of two major
arts.
DA chin ada ter (900F2309080−101) which
mounts to the airframe lough beams.
DAn ada ter late (900F2309082−101) which
mounts to the chin ada ter with bolts.
External systems are attached to the
ada ter late.
The mount assembly can accommodate three
ty es of FLIR systems.

The maximum weight that the Universal Nose
Mount assembly has been FAA substantiated
is 100 ounds (45 kg).
The maximum allowable flat late area that
has been FAA substantiated is 2.2 square feet
(67.06 cm.).

Refer to aircraft logbook for initial weight and
balance information. Reinstall entire assembly
before flight.

There are no Airworthiness Limitations
associated with this ty e design.
Refer to Section CSP−900RMM2, 04−00−00,
Airworthiness Limitations, for scheduled
mandatory re lacement times (life limits) of
other Rotorcraft com onents and assemblies.
B. Overhaul Period
Not a licable.
C. Inspection
MDHI has develo ed the following ins ection
requirements as the Manufacture’s Recom;
mended Ins ection Program in com liance
with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
Federal Aviation Regulations (CFR) Part
91.409.
The owner/o erator shall erform the S ecial
Hourly and S ecial Calendar Ins ections as
described in CSP−900RMM2, 05−20−10 in
addition to the Airframe Periodic or Airframe
Segmented Ins ection Programs.
The owner/o erator is res onsible for the
selection of an ins ection rogram, and if
required by regulation, for its a roval by the
governing aviation authority.

Ins ection shall be erformed in accordance
with the following instructions and at the
same time as the following aircraft ins ec;
tions:
D. Periodic Inspection Requirements
(1). Ins ect the chin ada ter for cracks, or
holes. None allowed.
(2). Ins ect ada ter late for cracks, dents,
and scratches.
(a). No cracks allowed.
(b). Dents that blend smoothly into
surrounding surface area with no
shar change in contour and do not
exceed 0.015 in. (0.381 mm) de th
and 1.00 in. (25.4 mm) in length are
acce table.
(c). Scratches no dee er than 0.010 inch
(0.254 mm) may be re aired. No
cracks allowed.
(3). Ins ect ada ter late for corrosion or
itting on ada ter late surface. None
allowed.
(4). Ins ect chin ada ter and ada ter late
for security.
E. Special Inspection – Calendar (1 YEAR)
(Ref. CSP−900RMM−2).
(1). Remove ada ter late (Ref. 14.A.).
(2). Remove chin ada ter (Ref. 14.A.).
(3). Ins ect lough beams for security and
cracks or scratches.
(a). Scratches no dee er than 0.010 inch

14. Chin Adapter and Adapter Plate Removal
and Installation
A. Removal
(Ref. Figure 201).
(1). Remove sealant from two bolts (1), four
washers (2), and two nuts (3) on
ada ter late (4).
(2). Remove two bolts (1), four washers (2),
and two nuts (3) from ada ter late (4).
(3). Remove remaining 12 screws (5) from
ada ter late (4).
(4). Remove ada ter late (4).
(5). Remove four bolts (6) and ackings (7)
from chin ada ter (8).
(6). Remove 21 bolts (9) ackings (7) and
two electrical bond jum ers (10) from
chin ada ter (8).
(7). Remove chin ada ter (8).
B. Installation
(Ref. Figure 201).
(1). Pre are the mating surfaces of two
electrical bond jum ers (10) and left
and right lower− lough beam ca s (11)
for electrical bond (Ref. CSP−SPM).
(2). Place two electrical bond jum ers (10)
between the left and right lower−

lough beam ca s (11) and the chin
ada ter (8).
(3). Loosely install two bolts (9) thru
ackings (7), chin ada ter (8), electrical
bond jum ers (10) and the left and
right lower− lough beam ca s (11).
(4). Install four bolts (6) and ackings (7)
into chin ada ter (8).
(5). Install remaining 19 bolts (9) and
ackings (7) into chin ada ter (8).
(6). Tighten remaining two bolts (9).
(7). Install 12 screws (5) into ada ter
late (4) and chin ada ter (8).
(8). Install two bolts (1) thru washers (2),
ada ter late (4) electrical bond
jum ers (9), washers (2) and nuts (3).
(9). Test the ada ter late for electrical
bond class @R" (Ref. CSP−SPM).
(10). A ly sealing com ound (C212) to the
bolts, nuts, washers and electrical bond
jum ers on the ada ter late
(Ref. CSP−SPM).
15. Repair
A. Adapter Plate Repair
(1). Su erficial scratches on the late
ada ter that have no raised metal are
ermitted.
(2). Blend out scratches to a maximum
distance of 0.25 inch (0.635 mm) from
the scratch. Clean and rime as
necessary er Aluminum Alloy Surface
Touch−u Treatment (Ref. CSP−SPM).
B. Chin Adapter Repair
No Re air allowed at this time.

17. Storage Limitations
No s ecialized storage limitation a ly to the
Universal Nose Mount.

This Illustrated Parts List (IPL) contains information on the
MD Explorer helicopter, manufactured by MD Helicopter, Inc
Mesa, Arizona The IPL should not be used for maintenance
purposes
This information is provided to aid the user, by means of text
and detail illustrations, for parts procurement only Each figure
has a Table that contains the information that follows
A. Illustrated
The illustrated column shows if the part is illustrated or not If
an N" is in the column, this signifies the item is called out on
the Illustrated Parts List, but not illustrated
B. Figure and Item Number
The figure number and title are positioned at the bottom of each
illustration The figure number is listed at the beginning of each
illustrated parts list Following the figure number is a column of
consecutive item numbers starting with one These are the item
numbers corresponding to those shown on the companion
illustration Item numbers are not normally assigned to
installations
C. Part Number
(1) The prefix 900 in the part number 900F2309037−101
identifies it as an MDHI part, of which the dash and
additional digits provides further identification
Odd dash numbers, (left hand) i e , −101, −103, −501,
−901, etc , are utilized unless conditions exist that
involve the usage of symmetrically opposite parts In
these conditions, even dash numbers are usually as
signed to the parts installed in the right hand locations
on the aircraft
All parts identified by even dash numbers reflect an
exact mirror image of the part with the odd number
immediately preceding it, unless otherwise stated in the
IPL Note field:
