1. Warnings and Contraindications
1.1.Warnings
WARNING: ALTHOUGH THE LUMA IS CERTIFIED EYE SAFE WITHOUT THE
NEED FOR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR AVOID POINTING THE LUMA AT A
PERSON’S EYES.
WARNING: THIS DEVICE IS INTENDED FOR VETERINARY USE ONLY. THIS
DEVICE HAS NOT BEEN CLEARED FOR HUMAN USE.
1.2.Contraindications
Before using the Luma Device, please notify your veterinary care provider if
your pet has been diagnosed with any of the following conditions:
●Pregnancy
●Cancer
●Hemorrhage
●Active bone growth (seen in growing animals)
Or if you are treating:
●Testicles
●A location where medication is injected locally
●Thyroid gland

3. Operating Instructions
3.1. Charging the battery
Before usage, connect the AC adapter power cord to a wall socket. Connect
the DC plug of the charger to the DC in jack of the device (No. 9).
The charging Indicator Light (No. 6) will blink during charging. When battery
is fully charged the charging light will stop blinking and stay on, until
disconnected from the AC adapter.
IMPORTANT!
ONLY use AC adapter supplied with the Luma device for battery charging.
Treatment is disabled while the device is charging.

The Luma device contains a rechargeable battery, which should be replaced
only by MedcoVet service. Replacing the battery may damage the Luma
device
3.2.Treatment
●The Luma device can be used with or without the spacer attachment.
●For surface wounds that exude liquids, snap the spacer front end (No. 8)
onto the device. You will hear a click when the spacer is in place. For all
other conditions, use the device without the spacer and gently work the
comb (No. 7) into the fur so that it sits as flush as possible to the pet’s
skin
3.2.1.Contraindications
Before treating, please notify your veterinary care provider if your pet has been
diagnosed with any of the following conditions:

3.2.2.Before using the Luma Device
Before using the Luma Device review the MedcoVet Safety Video at
MedcoVet.com/LumaSafety
Only operate the Luma in a warm and dry environment (0-35ºC). If the Luma
has been stored at a temperature outside of normal operation, allow the Luma
20 minutes to acclimate to a normal operating temperature.

3.2.4.Power Off
To Power Off, Press and hold the Power Button (No. 1). A short beep will be
heard when the power is turned off. The Luma device also shuts off on its own
after a minute of inactivity.

4.Device Indicators (Part Numbers 3-6)
Remaining Time
The green LED lights around the power button
indicate how much time is remaining in treatment.
Low Battery
Low battery power. Charge the device’s battery
immediately to ensure normal operation.
Bluetooth (BT)
Device is paired with the Luma app via Bluetooth
Error
Device is malfunctioning. Connect the app to share
the issue with MedcoVet support or email
support@medcovet.com for further assistance.
Charging
When blinking, device is charging. When on
continuously, the device is fully charged.

5.Troubleshooting
If the Error indicator is illuminated, the Luma is malfunctioning. Please
contact support@medcovet.com.
6. Treatment Instructions
6.1.Treatment technique
Prior to using the Luma, watch the treatment overview video included in the
app or on the MedcoVet website. Make sure that the comb is gently massaged
into the fur and sits flush against the area to be treated, so that the light
exiting the comb reaches the skin. Also, be sure to apply slight pressure with
the comb to improve penetration depth.

Treatment time will be prescribed by your veterinary care provider. Carefully
follow the protocol instructions for where, how long and how often to treat.
For treatment areas larger than the device spot size, divide the treatment area
into sections and treat each section separately. Choose sections that do not
overlap and include both healthy and treatment skin in each treatment
section.
An example of Luma irradiation:
1. Irradiation of a lick granuloma wound (the wound area is irradiated to
cover the entire wound including the edges with an effort not to
overlap)
2. Luma irradiation of a local lymph node.

7.IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS
The Luma is classified as exempt group, or risk group 0, per the International
Standard IEC62471. This means that the device does not cause eye or skin
damage.
However,
1- NEVER POINT THE LUMA AT A PERSON’S EYES, INCLUDING YOUR OWN.
2- IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT SAFETY, OPERATIONS, OR EVEN A
SUSPICION THAT SOMETHING DOESN’T SEEM RIGHT, PLEASE DISCONTINUE
USE AND CALL YOUR VETERINARY CARE PROVIDER.
3- THIS DEVICE IS STRICTLY FOR USE ON ANIMALS. THIS DEVICE IS NOT
INTENDED FOR HUMAN USE.

8.Cleaning the Device
Make sure the Luma is turned off and unplugged prior and during cleaning.
The Luma should be cleaned monthly (or when noticeably dirty) with 70%
alcohol wipes. Pass the alcohol wipe between the teeth of the optical comb. as
needed.

and we will address your concerns in a timely manner.
10.Warranty
MedcoVet guarantees the Luma from material and manufacturing defects for
a period of two years from the date of purchase. The warranty applies when
the unit is employed for normal home use, in compliance with what is
outlined in this User Manual. In no case can MedcoVet be held responsible for
any particular damages, inherent, direct or consequent to the purchase or use
of this product or for costs higher than the original cost of the product. This
warranty does not cover any damages due to accidents or improper use.
