1. Introduction
IML-D01 Millimeter Wave Radar for Vital Signs Monitoring is a very small and
smart millimeter wave radar device which is independently researched and
developed by Changsha Microbrain Intelligent Technology Com. Ltd.
IML-D01 radar sensor could be applied to non-contacting measuring and
monitoring of heart rate and respiration rate of a person including adults or
children. The radar has the advantages of high measurement accuracy, very
high motion sensitivity, small size and low weight, easy to integrate to host
system and stable detection. By actively transmitting 77GHz electromagnetic
wave to the human objects and processing the scattered signal by human
chest, IML-D01 radar is capable of extracting the heart rate, respiration rate
and other position information of a human from their doppler modulation signal
in a close range (no more than 6 meters) of the radar, which could be used to
human vital signs monitor and early warn.
Highlights:
1. Micromotion and vital sign information capture is fast and sensitive.
2 .Non-contacting measuring instead of wearing device makes its application
very convenient and suitable for the health care of a wide range of people such
as eld, adult and child.
3. It could be real-time measuring and monitoring for both the heart rate and
respiration rate.
4. Millimeter wave detection makes very good privacy comparing to camera
sensors. Radar device doesn’t take high resolution picture of its detection
objects.

4. Delivery List

5.Mount and Debug
Follow the belowing instructions carefully before installing IML-D01 Radar to
user’s specific applications:
Orientation of the radar: The radar transceiver antenna is located at the
heat sink of the base with the heat sink facing up and the gray radome
facing outwards(the normal of the radome surface could be viewed as the
illumination line) as shown in Figure 3. And the customer should make
sure that the illumination line shoud be parallel to the ground plane.
Height of the mounting point: It is recommended that the installation height
H to the ground plane must be 1.2~1.5meters aligned the chest or back of
the target. The range between radar and chest shoud be 0.1~0.9m for the
front detection of chest shown as Figure 3, and 0.1~0.7m for the back
detection which is shown as Figure 4.

The front or back detection approaches are shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4. The
radar has two different working modes of detecting the front chest and the
back, which can be completed only by loading different configuration files.
6.Quick use steps
The monitoring software which runs in host computer provided by Changsha
Microbrain Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. could obtain and analyze the raw
data uploaded by IML-D01 sensor, and the monitoring figure and result could
be directly displayed on the GUI of the software. The use of this tool is
conducive to the use of IML-D01 sensor.
The test steps are as list as follows:
Step1: Preparation of relative testing tools and equipments.
The user could either download the host computer debug software from the
official website of our company: http://www.microbrain.com.cn or contact the
customer service of our company. The user should install the software
successfully before starting testing the device. Table 2 lists the essential
equipment needed.

Step2: Connect the IML-D01 radar to host computer.

Note: Please consult the sales staff of our company for the detailed usage of the relay.
Step3: Start Testing
Make sure that the IML-D01 radar serial port is correctly connected.
Power on the 12V DC power adapter.
Open the debug software of host computer software.
The test results are shown in the Figure 5.

7.Attentions:
The power pin MUST be connected with a 12V DC stable power supply, and the
input current MUST be greater than 0.5A.
Please keep the radar surface dry and clean when using. To clean the radar surface,
wipe it with a soft wet cloth and let it dry in the air naturally.
Please pay attention to the shape of the radar during installation to ensure that the
installed radar is not deformed. Do not squeeze, knock, or beat the radar device in
any form.
Make sure that the radar is originally manufactured during installation and debug.
Do not try to disassemble or repair by yourself.

8.Frequently asked question
1) The host computer cannot scan the radar WIFI hotspot after the radar is powered
on.
A: The WIFI hotspot is not list on the WIFI list of host computer. That’s because
the WIFI of the radar device has just been started and initialized. The WIFI
hotspot list on host computer has not been updated yet. User is suggested to
restart WIFI by turning off WIFI and check the WIFI list again..
2) The breathing or heartbeat measurement result is not stable.
1) A: In order to obtain more effective and stable breathing and heartbeat data,

it is recommended that the use keep strictly still at least 10-15 second.
3) The respiratory signal may be very subtle due to the body difference of different
persons.
4) The heart rate veries fast.
A: The heart rate may vary a lot during the test, which dues to the fact that the
heart rate may change with the environmental noise, interference from other
objects, respiratory harmonic frequency and other factors. The final heart rate
converges to an stable value after a relative long still keeping.
