MEANING OF SYMBOLS USED IN THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Symbols are used in these instructions to help you understand them and to indicate particular points which you
need to act upon or consider. Those symbols are:
Reading symbol: to refer to the operator manual / instructions manual.
Warning symbol: This symbol means that failure to observe this point could lead to injury and possibly
damage to the machine. It serves as a special reminder about regulations and/or the correct
implementation of certain precautions.
Danger symbol: This symbol represents the DIN 4844 symbol (hazard warning); it warns of a hazard
which could result in death or injury, along with damage to the machine. This symbol must be observed
by all personnel working on this machine. Regulations on safety in the workplace must be observed.
Environmental protection symbol: This symbol serves as a reminder to sort waste during
maintenance operations, to store it in a safe place, and to dispose of it with due care for the
environment.
Dustbin on wheels barred of a cross symbol: This symbol indicates that the equipment should not be
thrown with domestic waste and is subject to selective collection.
Biological hazard symbol: This pictogram informs of a risk or a danger, it is necessary to take care to
handle the biological products or waste being able to infect the living organisms by inhalation, ingestion
or cutaneous penetration.
Non-ionizing radiation hazard symbol:This pictogram informs of a risk or a danger related to non-
ionizing radiations
General remark:
If used in accordance with their intended purpose, units bearing the CE mark will satisfy the essential
requirements of directive 93/42/EEC relative to medical devices.
Those units, when installed in accordance with these instructions, comply with the provisions of currently
applicable European Directives and harmonised standards.
However, your attention is drawn to the fact that a unit with only one compressor or only one vacuum pump
cannot be used without an emergency backup device: gas backup or other fixed or mobile unit.
To ensure personal safety and to avoid any damage to equipment, it is essential to follow the
instructions contained in this document and any other documentation provided with the device,
and particularly the instructions on “Safe Practice”.

SECTION 1. INTRODUCTION
We strongly advise you to read these installation instructions, before first switching on your
vacuum unit. The damage that could be caused by setting the machine up or installing it
incorrectly would not be covered by our guarantee.
In order to simplify any future requests for spare parts or further information about your vacuum unit, we advise
you to copy onto this page the specifications written on the plates fixed to the bottom of the receiver and the air
treatment unit, as soon as you receive your machine.
1.1. Specification plate

SECTION 2. DESCRIPTION
An HOSPIVAC V3 vacuum plant is equipped of three SIRELLA claw vacuum pumps on a framework assembly.
An HOSPIVAC G vacuum plant consists of one to six claw vacuum pumps on base.
2.1. Vacuum pumps
HOSPIVAC vacuum plants are mounted with SIRELLA claw vacuum pumps.
2.2. Receivers
The receivers are made especially for vacuum and designed according to the current CODAP code.
For HOSPIVAC G or V3 plants with FLEXO constant vacuum, select the receiver according to the number of
vacuum pumps.
2.3. Filtration and delivery pot
A DUPLEX PARALLEL antibacterial filtration unit traps bacteria before they reach the receivers and the vacuum
pumps ; it's consisting of two filters in parallel, running simultaneously.
We strongly recommend this solution because, during replacement of one cartridge, the secondary filter provides
filtration, so in this case the pump(s) is (are) constantly protected.
Our main bacteria filters consist of a pot/opaque filter containing a special bacteria cartridge fitted with a
deflector. This filter is opaque to prevent bacteria from proliferating in the filter element. The cartridge is made of
micro fibres bound with borosilicate, and its filtration fineness is approximately 1/100th of a micron. This cartridge
passes the so-called sodium flame test. Penetration of bacteria and living microorganisms is well below 0.05%, a
value generally demanded by standards in various countries. A sterilisable transparent Pyrex bottle is screwed to
the base of the filter units.
2.4. Electrical cabinet
An electrical cabinet combines the motor control and protection systems.
Several types of control are available, depending on individual use:
1 PROCOM-2 microcomputer to control 1 to 6 pumps with sensor regulation,
1 CYCLIC 2020 electronic system to control 2 or 3 pumps A, B and C with sensor regulation,
1 MILLENIUM automatic system to control 2 or 3 pumps A, B and C with sensor regulation.

SECTION 3. OPERATION
The air conveyed by the vacuum network passes through the main bacteria filter, enters the main receiver and is
then sucked by the vacuum pump(s) of the vacuum unit/plant.
The exhaust system consists of an exhaust hose fitted and a drain valve to collect condensate at the lowest point
of the network.
3.1. Constant vacuum regulation type
When the vacuum pump is switched on, the operation is forced during a FLEXO time: FLEXO regulation.
During this time, it's necessary to limit the vacuum level. So, when the network pressure reaches –880 mbar, the
constant vacuum solenoid valve opens in order to inject a sufficient volume of air under the suction valve of the
vacuum pump to generate a difference of pressure upstream and downstream from this valve so that it is closed.
When the network pressure reaches –830 mbar, the constant vacuum solenoid valve is closed, the suction valve
of the vacuum pump opens and the vacuum pump operates. This simple system makes possible "to disconnect"
the vacuum pump of the network in full safety and to ensure a constant vacuum.

SECTION 4. CHOICE OF ROOM
The unit must be located in a clean, non-humid, non-saline, dustless and ventilated local whose the temperature
should be between +5C and +40C.
Forced ventilation controlled by a thermostat must be installed to ensure adequate room ventilation.

The person in charge of the installation has overall responsibility of the product environment requirements.
He is also in charge of setting up methods of struggle against fire and to protect vacuum units against shocks,
flooding, earthquake and corrosion.
The technician or exploiting are responsible for building construction and civil engineering infrastructures or
earthwork.
Outdoor deadline pressure (snow, wind, rain..) must be taken into account.
Environmental constraints must be managed.
According to the standards NFS99-175 (§ 5-7-3), ISO 10083, ISO 7396-1 (§ 5-8) vacuum units must not be in the
same room as O2concentrator, gas bottles and non-cryogenic liquid.
SECTION 5. REGULATION BY SENSOR
Vacuum plants fitted with the PROCOM-2 or CYCLIC 2020 are regulated by a 4/20mA analogue sensor which
measures pressures in ABSOLUTE terms and can transmit the values to the monitors selected by the user, in
either RELATIVE or ABSOLUTE mode. This measurement principle means that plants can be installed at any
altitude without the need to make corrections.
N.B.: for the PROCOM-2 or the CYCLIC 2020 the analogue sensor is backed up by mechanical vacuum switches
fitted as a safety measure, which must be set according to the altitude at which they are used.
The standard value release: -450 mbar.

It should be noted that vacuum pump flow rates vary according to the altitude at which they are installed and the
temperature of the air pumped.

Contained in PROCOM-2 and CYCLIC 2020 housing is a key-switch for each vacuum pump.
This key-switch enables to force operation by bypassing the PROCOM-2 or CYCLIC 2020 board and the back-up
vacuum gauge.
Once the key has been inserted and activated: it can no longer be withdrawn and the front panel of the housing
can no longer be closed so as to avoid prolonged use of the function. This feature enables temporary repairs or
testing of vacuum pumps.

SECTION 7. INSTALLATIONS
7.1. For HOSPIVAC V3 SIRELLA
On the framework assembly:
The three claw vacuum pumps,
The suction and exhaust collectors,
The electrical housing,
The anti-bacterial filtration.
Handling:
The chassis can be lifted and moved from any of its sides using a pallet truck.
The vacuum pumps are slightly off centre on the chassis. The pallet truck must therefore lift
from beneath the approximate centre of gravity of the pumps in order to avoid any risk of
tilting.
Mounting:
Once the chassis has been correctly positioned, its four legs must be anchored to the ground.

7.3. Power supply (see electrical circuit diagram attached)
Power supply must be removed prior to any intervention on the station.
Connection to the power supply must be carried out by the exploiting.
Connect HOSPIVAC to a backed-up power supply.
Note: Power supply failure will interrupt the production of vacuum.
Refer to the motors or stations rating plates in order to insure that the voltage used on site is that required by
the equipment.
Connect the electric cabinet to power supply via the switch/breaker or the terminals L1–L2–L3–N + Earth,
using flexible power cord having conductor section capable of supporting the total power requirements of all
the motors that make up the unit (see table below).
Power cables must be protected upstream using a surge protection device in accordance
with current legislation and standards of your country.
Check all the electrical connections and tighten if necessary before switching on the system.
A magneto-thermal starter as standard protects each motor.
Connect the synthesis alarm overview to a visual and/or audible alarm on the control unit.

For HOSPIVAC G only
Connect each motor’s terminals to terminals T1 – T2 – T3 of LU1 for motor A, of LU2 for motor B and LU3
for motor C, .... Connect the earth wire. The cable having conductor section capable of supporting the power
requirements of one pump (see table above).
Vacuum pumps are equipped with the constant vacuum solenoid valve, connect it to the electric cabinet as
shown in the electrical diagram. (2 x 0.75 mm² +T)

The wire sections are given for information to 5A / mm2.
Even so, the sections shall be defined by taking contacts with the wire provider.
They depend:
-of the wire type
-of the length
-of the room temperature
-of the wire path

Alarm report:
The connection between Alarm report on automate units must be done by the person in charge of the
Installation.
He must control the compliance wiring and proper operation during the final acceptance test.
7.4. Connections to the pneumatic network
7.4.1. Suction side
If the regulation mode with constant vacuum solenoid valve (FLEXO) is used on the HOSPIVAC V and G, the
values shown in the table below must be respected as minimum levels for the receivers in order to assure correct
operation.
Note: Higher levels than those indicated can only improve the quality of operation.

On the network, HOSPIVAC units are delivered in standard with a network alarm electronic sensor C2V.
For HOSPIVAC V only
Make pneumatic connections between the electronic cabinet and the regulation sensor C1V and the main vacuum
network using a ø6x8 'Rilsan' pipe. This should be placed as close as possible to the main receiver.
Make pneumatic connection between the alarm sensor C2V and the electronic cabinet.
For HOSPIVAC G only
Connect the anti-bacteria filtration outlet to the manifold using rigid piping or hose.
Connect the suction of the vacuum pumps to the network with a hose equipped with a check-valve located
between the manifold and the hose.
Make pneumatic connections between the electronic cabinet and the regulation sensor C1V and the main vacuum
network using a ø6x8 'Rilsan' pipe. This should be placed as close as possible to the main receiver.
Make pneumatic connection between the alarm sensor C2V and the electronic cabinet.
7.4.2. Exhaust side
The exhaust collector must be connected to a gas evacuation canalisation, which leads to the outside of the
building, either via the façade or vertical duct (standard EN 737-3).
beware of rainfall penetration or blockages caused by nests or other obstacles.
For HOSPIVAC G only
Connect the exhaust from each vacuum pump to the exhaust collector using hose.
An exhaust vessel must be fitted at the lowest point of the exhaust collector.

HOSPIVAC systems are used only for suction of non-aggressive gas, with less than 22% of
oxygen gas.
It is not recommended to use HOSPIVAC to exhaust anaesthetic gas (AGSS system) with the
risk of self-ignition.
IMPORTANT: Mechanical vacuum switches having relative value measurements are used (for all types of
regulation) or sensors (MILLENIUM), and set taking the altitude at which they are installed into account. For
details on this procedure, refer to the SECTION 5.
8.1. First steps – Advice prior to commissioning the vacuum pumps
Read the attached vacuum pump start-up and maintenance manual prior to starting up the equipment.
Set the general switch GS (red/yellow knob) to O (Off).
Set the On/Off switches of all the pumps to O (Off).
8.2. Switching on
Open the main receiver bleed valve and shut off the network outlet valve.
Set the general switch (GS) to I (On).
Set the On/Off switch of vacuum pump A to I, and pump A will start. Immediately check the direction of rotation of
pump A. An arrow affixed to the pump indicates the correct direction of rotation. If turning in the wrong direction,
immediately stop pump A using the On/Off switch and inverse the power supply wires to the HOSPIVAC V. For
the HOSPIVAC G, inverse the two wires at the required pump’s contactor or at the motor.
Once this check has been carried out, stop pump A by positioning the On/Off switch for the pump to O (Off).
Repeat these steps for vacuum pumps B, C,...
Note: For HOSPIVAC V, checking the direction of rotation for pumps B and C will simply be a formality as if pump
A is rotating in the right direction, pumps B and C will automatically be turning in the right direction.
Close the main receiver bleed valve and open the network outlet valve.
Position all the pumps’ switches to On (I) and all the pumps will start up resulting in a steady increase of the
depression within the network.
Check all connections for leaks.
To check that the chosen set up is operating correctly:
Isolate the system from the network by closing the outlet valve,
Induce a controlled leak by partially opening the bleed valve of the main receiver.
Once this check has been carried out, make sure the bleed valve is properly closed and open the network
outlet valve.

9.1. Setting pressure
Qualified and authorised personnel should only carry out any modification to the settings.
Improper actions may cause complete system malfunction.
9.1.1. Setting pressure for mechanical vacuum switches
You find different mechanical vacuum switches types in cabinets:

SECTION 11. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
IMPORTANT:
For this operation, use all necessary protective measures (gloves, mask, overalls etc.) then
destroy contaminated consumables (antibacterial cartridges, condensates etc.) in according
with that country’s applicable laws (regulation incinerator).
Maintenance is to be entrusted to trained and approved personnel by the exploiting, with all
necessary knowledge and acquainted with best practice.
Not to carry out maintenance operations when the device is in use.
If the spare parts used during maintenance operations are not corresponding to the
manufacturers' requirements, the manufacturer declines all responsibility in the event of an
incident.
The modification of the central units is forbidden.
Modification of the device is forbidden without the approval of the manufacturer.
If the central is modified following manufacturer agreement, a control and a suitable test must
be realized to make sure that the central is always safe to use.

11.1. Filtration
During and after maintenance, respect basic hygiene rules.
Before ordering tools used for maintenance, clean them with a disinfectant.
11.1.1. Bleed the PYREX vessel
Position the three-way valve to bypass,
Bring to atmospheric pressure by pressing the red button on the filter nose,
Unscrew the vessel, empty it and screw it back into position.
Put the three-way valve back into working position.
11.1.2. Changing the anti-bacteria filter
Systematically replace the anti-bacteria cartridge every 12 MONTHS or more frequently if pressure on the
network drops too low.
Position the three-way valves to bypass,
Bring to atmospheric pressure by pressing the red button on the filter nose,
Unscrew the chamber, remove the white shell + filter element assembly; remove the collar holding the shell
to the filter element.
Fit the shell to the new filter element, replace the collar and clean the chamber.
Then, once reassembled, position the three-way valves back to their working positions.
11.1.3. Changing the parallel duplex anti-bacteria filter
Systematically replace the cartridges in the filters every 12 MONTHS or more frequently if pressure on the
network drops too low (P 200 mbar).
Isolate the first filter by closing its upstream and downstream valves,
Bring to atmospheric pressure by pressing the red button on the filter nose,
Unscrew the chamber, remove the white shell + filter element assembly and remove the collar holding the
shell to the filter element.
Fit the shell to the new filter element, replace the collar and clean the chamber.
Then, once reassembled, position the upstream and downstream valves back to their working positions.
Repeat the above procedure for the second filter.
11.2. Flexo Solenoid valve
11.3. Checking operation of mechanical back-ups
Check with relevant authority that this test is suitable for the activity and architecture of the
building in which the network is installed. This action will trigger an alarm.
For PROCOM-2 / CYCLIC 2020 / MILLENIUM:
A mechanical back-up vacuum switch is placed in parallel with the control unit.
Set the general switch to “O”.
For PROCOM-2 and CYCLIC 2020: Remove the connector 01 to 08 (PROCOM-2) or 1 to 10 (CYCLIC 2020) in
order to withdraw the piloting part of the pumps by the chart and to keep the posting of the pressure.
For the MILLENIUM: Remove the protective fuses F1A – F2A.
Turn the general switch back on.
Reduce the vacuum in the receiver, the pumps should start up at around –450 mbar and stop at around
–600 mbar (with the MILLENIUM) and –800 mbar (with PROCOM-2 and CYCLIC 2020).
Once the check has been completed, set the general switch to “O”, put the connector or the fuses back in place
and then reset the general switch to “I”.

11.4. Changing the hose with vacuum applied
To change the hose, proceed methodically in order to avoid interrupting vacuum production and always
remember to isolate the unit from the rest of the network. If the hose is located on the suction side of the pump,
the pump must be stopped. The non-return valves are located in such a way that they will automatically isolate
the network when a hose is being changed.
Respect the minimum curve ø20: R = 75 mm - ø30: R = 160 mm - ø35: R = 220 mm – ø45: R = 250 mm. The
hose must never be installed stretched.
Interrupting the Rilsan connection between the network and the electrical cabinet will cause a leak that will be
compensated for by operation of the vacuum pumps during the changeover time (this connection does not have a
check valve or an isolation valve).
11.5. Non-return valve
Loss of tightness of this valve will lead to a leak when breaking a hose connection.
11.6. Validation of sensor measurements – vacuum gauge
For the PROCOM-2 / CYCLIC 2020 and MILLENIUM, connect the electronic calibrating vacuum gauge to the
bleed valve of the receiver and check the sensor regulation and the mechanical vacuum gage.
11.7. Checking operation of the network alarm
Check with relevant authority that this test is suitable for the activity and architecture of the
building in which the network is installed. This action will trigger an alarm.
Disconnect the 'rilsan' pipe from the network alarm sensor C2V to make a vacuum drop; the low network alarm
will be triggered at –370 mbar.
SECTION 12. PRECAUTIONS WITH THE NETWORK
The bodies of the vacuum unit are not designed to resist an overpressure coming from the network, for example
during the cleaning and pressure tests phases.
It is the same for the lowest level drip pot placed at the various points of the network.
It is imperative to be isolated from the network during maintenance operations.
The suction through network of hydrogen peroxide or all other having the same properties is
completely proscribed.
The hydrogen peroxide can release from oxygen and under certain conditions, to cause an increase abnormally
high of the pressure.
SECTION 13. CLEANING
13.1. Units cleaning
Do not use corrosive product
If the units system requires cleaning, use a soap solution and a clean cloth.
Then wipe well with a dry cloth.
For disinfection, use swabs soaked in a disinfectant solution.
Frequency: as required.
13.2. Network cleaning
When cleaning a network with a cleaning solution or disinfectant, we must be vigilant.
The solution mixed with the organic material present in the network, could lead to an extremely rapid and
significant pressure for progress in specific components (jars low point, for example) which can lead to an
explosion of them.
