Assembly Instructions
1. Insert the main beam assembly (1) centrally into the main frame combining hydraulic unit assembly (2)
2. Slide the hook box assemblies (4) onto the main beam assembly (1) followed by the wheel assemblies (3)
Please ensure the hook assemblies (4) face backwards and the wheels assemblies (4) face forward of the beam.
3. Finally, instal the pulling and pumping handles (5 and 6) .

How to use (Maximum lifting force 800kg)
1. You should always wear appropriate PPE
2. Keep your hands away from the hydraulic ram area when in operation.
3. Do not hold onto the transport handle directly above the lifter ram, when in operation.
4. Clean keyholes in the manhole cover.
5. Select the correct size and type of key for the cover and ensure that they are installed securely in the holes.
6. Position the Mills Hydraulic Manhole Cover 4C over the cover, ensuring the wheels are positioned as close to
the frame of the cover as possible to avoid straining the beam and slide hook boxes into line with the keys. Finally
attach keys to the hook box assemblies.
7. Ensure that the release screw on the pump is closed and proceed to lift by operating the handle.
8. Use one hand only on the operating lever.
9. Whilst pumping ensure that the keys are pulling square to the cover, to ensure an even pressure is applied.
10. Covers may require loosening by striking the edges of the cover with a rubber or wooden mallet.
For particularly stubborn covers we recommend the use of a Spreader Bar initially to break cover seal. (Please

11. The cover should start to lift as soon as the keys are under tension. If the cover appears reluctant to move, whilst
the cover is under tension it may be loosened by striking the edges of the cover with a rubber or wooden mallet.
12. Once the cover is loose continue pumping until the cover is clear of chamber.
13. Wheel the cover away from the chamber and lower onto a firm surface. When replacing the cover, position it
over the chamber by using the pulling handle and lower slowly by using the release screw on the hydraulic jack.
14. Continue lowering until the hooks can be disconnected from keys.
General Maintenance
Lubricate threads on hook and wheel lock screws, wheel spindles and centre box hinge points as necessary.
Inspect Lifter for signs of damage periodically for mechanical defects.
With prolonged use of the hydraulic pump, the unit may need to be serviced or require addition hydraulic oil -
