REGULATORY INFORMATION
Safety and Network
The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert
the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance
(servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the product.
Warning
Failure to follow all instructions may result in improper equipment operation and/or the risk of
electrical shock.
All installation personnel should consult the following information before attempting to install
this product.
1. This product is to be installed and serviced by qualified personnel.
2. Read all instructions before attempting to install or use this product.
3. Install and configure this product with only the assemblies specified in this guide.
4. Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
5. Never touch telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected
at the network interface.
6. Use caution when installing or modifying the telephone lines.
7. The AC power socket/outlet should be installed near the equipment and should be easily
accessible.
8. The equipment has been approved to commission decision CTR 21 for pan_European
single terminal connection to the Public SwitchedTelephone Network (PSTN). However,
due to differences between the individual PSTNs provided in different countries, the
approval does not, of itself, give an unconditional assurance of successful operation on
every PSTN network termination point.
In the event of problems, you should contact your equipment supplier in the first instance.
The SMarT-1 EuroRoute Dialer is suitable for connection to a Public Switched Telephone
Network supporting Multi-Frequency dialling.
Loop disconnect dialling may ONLY be used in EC Memberstates, which have NO additional
regulatory requirements for Loop Disconnect dialling for products which are approved to CTR
21 (e.g. UK). For more details, contact your local Regulatory Notified body.
Safety
Power Supply
The Dialer operates from a standard 230 VACsupply. The Power Supply Unit (PSU) used with
this apparatus must be fully compliant with the EEC Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC).

The CE Mark is affixed to this product to demonstrate conformity to the Low Voltage
Directive (73/23/EEC), the EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) and the Telecoms Terminal
Directive (98/13/EEC).
Connectivity
The Dialer is associated with the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) and the telephone wall
plug.
This product should work in a satisfactory manner when used in the countries listed in
European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI) Guide EG 201 121 and specified
below:
•Germany,
•Greece,
•Portugal,
•Spain and
•Switzerland.
Ringer Equivalents Number (REN)
The sum of the Ring Equivalents Number (REN) connected to a direct Exchange line must not
exceed 4. One or more devices may not function correctly if this limit is exceeded.
The REN value of the Dialer is 0.3. Connecting the Dialer to a line will not affect the ability of
your telephones to ring.
It can be assumed that a standard telephone has a REN of 1 unless otherwise stated. No other
apparatus must be connected in parallel with the Dialer.
Note: REN is applicable to the U.K. only

Regulatory Label
The regulatory label shown below is located on the back of the Dialer. This label contains the
regulatory approval number, part number,serial number,revision levels and the necessary
approval marks required for use in Europe.
There is a warranty seal located at the side of the unit, as shown in the diagram. If this seal is
broken for any reason, the warranty will be voided. Please contact your local distributor for
warranty information.

1. SMarT-1 EuroRoute One-line Dialer Installation
1. 1. General
The Dialer is a simple, compact and versatile telephone controller providing the following
features:
•Versatile programming
•One-line capacity
•Abbreviated dialling provision
•Remote maintenance and programming
•Compatible with rotary or MF4 telephones and telephone offices
•EEPROM back-up of Dialer’s program
•Separate programming access for customer updating and maintaining of abbreviated
dialling numbers
•Progress tones for call and route progress are programmable on a route by route basis
•Usable with Centrex (PABX) lines
•300bps modem for remote programming

1. 4. Power/line Error Status (Tone)
The Dialer audible error status will be indicated by the following condition:
†A RAM checksum error occurs when a periodic database integrity check fails, meaning that
the database is corrupted. This condition may be cleared by✳-initialising the Dialer.
1. 5. Standard Installations
The Dialer can be installed and programmed by either an MF4 device or a modem. It is
typically installed as a serial device between a fax machine or a telephone and the Exhange
Line (Figure 1.1).
In order to install the Dialer directly to an Exchange Line:
•Use the supplied cables to connect the Dialer connector marked “LINE”to the wall outlet.
•Connect theFAX machine or telephone to the connector marked“FAX”.
•Plug the right angle connector from the power supply to the power input on the Dialer.

Note: The Dialer only uses the “A”and “B wires for a single connection to the Exchange line.

In order to install the Dialer using a PABX Line:
•Use the supplied cables to connect the Dialer connector marked “LINE”to the wall outlet.
•Connect the connector marked “FAX”tothe FAX machine or telephone.

The Dialer provides easy access (regular dialling patterns) to the local telephone office and to
Long Distance Carriers. The purpose of the Dialer is to set up a call similar to the normal
dialled call. The Dialer can add the Carrier access number and the Personal Identification
Number (PIN) as required for call completion. You can program the Dialer to access a number
based on regular dialling patterns or use abbreviated dialling for rapid access. You can also
program the unit to route or restrict calls based on digits dialled by the user.
In addition, the Dialer allows you to tailor its telephone line parameters for both the
subscriber’s telephone equipment and the exchange line. This versatility allows you to satisfy
most situations or user requirements.
1. 6. Programming Devices
The Dialer may be programmed from any of the following devices:
•MF4 Telephone
•modem.
The Dialer may also be programmed by using the Mitel software, SMarT MPU.
1. 7. Cost Centre Code Verification
The Dialer can be programmed to request a Cost Centre Code before allowing a call (refer to
Chapter 14 on page 76). The Cost Centre Codes canbe assigned to each individual person in
an office, using the telephone lines connected to the Dialer. The codes can vary in type,
according to the route parameters programmed by the maintainer.

2. 1. Environmental Requirements
The SMarT-1 EuroRoute One-line Dialer has been designed to be installed in an office
environment with the following limits:
•temperature within the range of 0ºC to 45ºC
•relative humidity within the range of 0% to 85%, non condensing.
The Dialer is resistant to electromagnetic interference expected in ordinary conditions and
does not emit electromagnetic radiation likely to affect users.
The Dialer must be mounted in a location that is:
•dry and clean
•well ventilated
•easily accessible
•well lit (for the convenience of maintenance personnel).
The Dialer must not be located:
•near sprinkler systems, sweating pipes or vents
•in an area where corrosive fumes or exhaust from machinery are present
•on the same main circuit as the photocopying machine.

3. 1. Mechanical Description
The SMarT-1 EuroRoute One-line Dialer (Figure 3.1) consists of a plastic case, enclosed
circuitry and an external power supply.

3. 3. Dialer Vertical Mount
The Dialer can be placed on a desk or any other flat surface. The unit may also be mounted
vertically using the supplied clips and associated hardware, as shown in Figure 3.2.
Before mounting the Dialer to a wall, attach the metal clips to the top of the Dialer by pushing
the elevated part of the metal clip into the screw hole. Once the metal clips are attached, the
installer can apply 18mm #6 pan-head screws into pre-made holes in the wall. When attaching
the Dialer to a plaster wall, insert the nylon anchors into the pre-made holes before applying
the 18mm #6 pan-head screws. The illustration below illustrates the positioning of the clips.

Note: The Dialer can also be vertically mounted using the fourVelcro pads that are provided
with the unit.
3. 4. Powering up
The Dialer comes with a power supply.This is the only power supply which will operate the
Dialer reliably. Do not attempt to operate this unit with any other power supply. Plug the right
angle connector into the Dialer, then plug the power supply into a standard 230 VAC wall
outlet.
3. 5. Power Failure
If a power failure occurs, the Dialer will allow calls to be made but will not route the calls.
During a mains power interruption, a one way audio condition may be experienced by either
subscriber on calls that are in progress. If this condition occurs, please hang up and re-try the
call.
