Installation Guide
7100 MAP variants
There are three variants of the 7100 MAP:
•7100 MAP E/M (Ethernet/Modem)
•7100 MAP E/M/S (Ethernet/Modem/Serial)
•7100 MAP E/M/S/U (Ethernet/Modem/Serial/UPS)
7100 MAP E/M supports remote connections through a standard dialup PSTN V.90
modem connection to up to five IP-based systems, via a single 10baseT Ethernet
connection to the customer network. These systems canbe installed on the same or
separate subnets of an Ethernet LAN.
7100 MAP E/M/S also supports remote connections through a dial-up modem, to up
to five IP-based systems. In addition, it supports connectivity to up to two serial port
devices through RS-232 serial connections.
7100 MAP E/M/S/U provides the same IP- and serial-system access as the E/M/S
and comes with an integrated 4-hour UPS battery. Note that in this document, all
procedures concerning and references to the E/M/S also apply to the E/M/S/U.
7100 MAP users
There are three 7100 MAP users:
•‘admin’
•‘engineer’
•‘collection’
Admin: The admin user (local or dial-in) can access the 7100 MAP user interface to
configure the 7100 MAP itself. The admincan be an on-site user or an engineer who
accesses the 7100 MAP from a remote client station to conduct an admin session.
Engineer: The engineer is a dial-in user who can access the 7100 MAP user
interface to log in to an admin (configuration) session on the 7100 MAP and can also
access to the Mitel Networks devices that are managed by the 7100 MAP.
Collection: The collection user is a dial-in user who can only access the 7100 MAP
E/M/S data collection service on port 3000 to collect logging data from Mitel
Networks serial devices managed by the 7100 MAP.
Initial 7100 MAP setup overview
DO NOT connect the 7100 MAP to the customer LAN until the 7100 MAP been
assigned a valid IP addressfor the customer network. You assign the IP address
during the configuration stage. See "Configuring the 7100 MAP" (p. 13).

Accessing the 7100 MAP locally
Indefinite access for local admin
The on-site admin user has indefinite access to the 7100 MAP on the LAN via a
Telnet connection to the actual IP address of the 7100 MAP.
Accessing a local administration session (Ethernet connection)
The Ethernetcards on the remote PC and the 7100 MAP musthave the same subnet
address; if they do not, these two devices will be unable to communicate. The
installer must specify an IP address for the PC network card to match the first three
octets of the IP address of the 7100 MAP unit. For example, the factory default IP
address for the 7100 MAP is 192.168.1.1, so you could specify 192.168.1.32 (where
32 is a variable) for the PC.
To access a local administration session through an Ethernet connection to the 7100

Tip: Select the Save password check box to avoid having to remember the
engineer password. Be aware, however, that the password saved for this con-
nection must match the engineer password that is configured in the 7100 MAP
(whether it is a default or customized password). Once the engineer password
is customized during a 7100 MAP admin session, it must be changed accord-
ingly in your dial-up network connection.
During the PPP negotiation process, the 7100 MAP will assign IP addresses to each
end of the dial-up network connection. The default addresses assigned are
•Remote PC: 192.168.10.1
•7100 MAP: 192.168.10.10
At this point, you have an authenticated dial-up network connection, but you are not
logged in to the 7100 MAP. Although you have the IP addressfor the 7100 MAP, you
will not be able to access it, or even ping it, until privileged access has been enabled.
See "Enabling privileged (remote) access to the 7100 MAP Admin interface" (p. 11).
Privileged access for remote engineer
To access the 7100 MAP admin interface, the engineer must have privileged access
enabled. With privileged access enabled, both the the engineer and local admin can
connect to the 7100 MAP. With indefinite privileged access enabled, either the
engineer or admin must reset privileged access to 0to terminate the engineer’s
indefinite access; see "Enabling and disabling privileged access from the Dial-in
Network Access menu" (p. 12). While indefinite access is enabled, the engineer can
disconnect and reconnect to the 7100 MAP any number of times.
Enabling privileged (remote) access to the 7100 MAP Admin interface
The engineer can access the 7100 MAP Admin interface from a remote location and
change the configuration settings; however, this requires the co-operation of an
admin at the customer site, who can enable privileged access in one of two ways:

7100 MAP

Local and remote configuration
You can configure a 7100 MAP locally—or remotely with access permission from the
customer—usingaterminalemulatorsuchasTelnet(local/remote)orHyperTerminal
(local only).
Note: You can use Telnet with the 7100 MAP E/M/S, E/M/S/U, and E/M; however,
HyperTerminal requires a serial connection and can, therefore, only be used with the
E/M/S variants.
An important note about committing changes
CAUTION:Anychangesmade duringa 7100 MAPadminconfigurationsessionmust
be committed before they will take effect. Once you Commit Changes & Restart
(option 7 (E/M) or 8 (E/M/S) in the main configuration menus), you will lose your
connection to the 7100 MAP. You will also lose any time remaining in your session,
unless you have indefinite access (in which case, you can simply reconnect to the
7100 MAP). As a result, we recommend that you make all necessary changes before
committing them. Make sure that you keep careful track of the time remaining in your
session, and save 5 minutes at the end to commit your changes; your changes will
be lost if your session times out before you commit them. See "Committing your

7100 MAP

changes" (p. 18).
Privileged access required for engineer
With privileged access enabled, the engineer can telnet to the 7100 MAP, log in as
the admin user, and configure the 7100 MAP for the customer network. The easiest
way to grant remote access for the initial configuration of the 7100 MAP is to press
the CLEAR button. You can also grant access through the Dial-in Network Access
menu, but this requires that the local admin match the IP address of their PC to that
of the 7100 MAP in order to access the menu interface.
Configuring the 7100 MAP
At any time during the7100 MAP configuration, you can type a menu number
followed by a question mark to get help on the possible selections.
1. At the main configuration menu, type 1(System Settings), and press ENTER.

Changing the passwords
The Admin password (default admin) only allows access to a 7100 MAP
administration session; the Engineer password (default password) only allows
access to remote systems; and the Collection password (default collection) only
allows access to the data collection service for serial devices. The Collection
password only appears as an option in the E/M/S variants.
Note: Be sure to change and record the default passwords. Note that passwords are
case-sensitive
Important note about password recovery: Carefully record all passwords and
password changes. If the PPP (Engineer) password is forgotten, Mitel Networks
security measures require that the 7100 MAP be shipped back to Mitel so that our
technicians can restore the unit to its default configuration settings. Note that if the
Administrator password is forgotten, the unit does not need to be shipped back to
Mitel because a technician can restore the default configuration setting for this
password remotely.
You can change the passwords at any time. You must commit any changes you
make in order to activate the new passwords. If you are changing more than one
password, you only need to commit once, after making all your changes. See
"Committing your changes" (p. 18).
