Thank you for choosing Mongoose as your GPS tracking provider.
The tracker, the mobile APP and website are so easy to use.
Please familiarize yourself with how it works and what the features can do for you.

How GPS tracking works ;
GPS satellites are used to find the trackers location – anywhere in the world.
The tracker uses a Vodafone 2G GSM mobile SIM card to send its location data to the website and
mobile APP. The tracker must be paired to your mobile phone.
The tracker automatically sends its location to the website using inexpensive data.
The website saves the data for up to 6 months at a time.
The mobile APP is used to display the information stored on the website and to communicate directly
with the tracker.
The tracker, APP and website work seamlessly together with virtually no delay in operation.
Your GSM SIM card must have the ability and credit, for voice, text messages and data.
QUICK SET-UP GUIDE
1. Charge the battery - approx’ 8 hours. Red LED shows tracker is charging.
2. Insert a Vodafone 2G GSM SIM card (Do not insert with the tracker turned on or power lead connected).
3. The PT800 turns on when the SIM card is inserted. Press power button on PT860 to turn on.
4. Whilst it’s charging, you can set it up to start tracking – see page 4.
5. Green & blue LEDs will start to flash when GPS and GSM signals have been located – usually
40~60 seconds. Best outdoors or near a window.
6. The tracker must face the sky. With dogs, it must be on the back of its neck, not under its chin.
7. From your mobile phone, send the following 5 text messages to get your tracker working.

TRACKER OPERATION
SIM CARD INSTALLATION
Make sure that the SIM card is operating by testing in a mobile phone before inserting into the tracker.
Do not insert SIM card with power charger connected – you could damage the SIM card.
Do not hide your mobile phones identity.
Keep SIM credit up to date – make a note of the top-up date.
PT800
• Carefully lift up the SIM card/charger rubber cover – DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER.
• Insert the SIM card correctly, as shown. It will click into place. The tracker will turn on.
• Fully replace the rubber cover to ensure water seal.
• This tracker is only water resistant to IP65 with the cover in place – do not submerge.
PT860
• With the screwdriver provided, remove the back cover.
• Insert the SIM card correctly, as shown. Press power button to turn on.
• Fully replace the cover – ensure screws have their sealing washers.
• PT860 is water resistant to IPX-6 – do not submerge

ON-LINE GPS TRACKING
Once programmed, the tracker automatically sends its location to the website via the GSM mobile data
network. The mobile APP receives its information from the website.
Your Vodafone 2G GSM SIM card must therefore have the ability, and credit, for voice, text and data.
HOW TO TRACK – WHERE IS IT NOW ?
SMARTPHONE APP
Open the APP on your mobile phone. If in the blue band at the top it
says ‘Not enabled’, it means the tracker hasn’t been programmed
correctly or the SIM card is not transmitting data.
Click on ‘real time’ to show current location.
The blue dot is your phone – the green triangle is the tracker.
WEBSITE
Log onto to the website. Click on ’monitoring’. A map will be displayed
with the location.
TEXT REQUEST
Send this text:- g123456
The tracker will now reply. Tap the text message and your phones
maps open to show the location.
PHONE CALL
Make a phone call to the tracker (only from the paired mobile phone).
Cellular secretary will answer, hang up immediately.
The tracker will now send you a text message.
Tap the message and your phones own maps open to show the location.
APP & WEBSITE
The APP and website offer a wide range of features;
 Real-time tracking
 Historical movement
 Geo-fence settings
 Device information
The APP and website are linked so any changes are
reflected by the other.

Mongoose has no input into the design, features or operation.
Purchasers of Mongoose GPS trackers have free usage under current access terms.
Certain features and functions of the APP and website may be only be applicable to the model purchased.
This manual details the functions applicable to your model. The APP and website are continually being
updated so features and functions may alter.

BATTERY CHARGING – FOR SAFETY, DO NOT LEAVE BATTERY CHARGING UNATTENDED
Before use, please fully charge the battery – approximately 8 hours.
There are two methods of charging the trackers battery;
Mains with USB lead or USB socket in a motor vehicle (faster) or computer (slower).
When fully charged, the battery should last approximately 7 days in sleep mode.
In normal use with location reporting, battery life is approximately 3 days.
Low battery alert: The tracker will send a text alert to your phone when battery power drops to 40%..
TURNING ON - outdoors or very near a window if indoors to get satellite reception
• PT860 - Press and hold the button until LED’s light.
• PT800 turns on when SIM card is inserted.
• Within 60 seconds, the unit will lock onto the GSM and GPS signals and start to flash.
(Turning on indoors can result in no GPS reception – blue LED stays on)

TURNING OFF – Press the button for a couple of seconds to turn off (PT860)
PT800 – either remove the SIM card, or send the sleep command to prolong battery life.
COMMANDS EXPLAINED
TIME ZONE
So that the tracker can report accurate time, the time zone must be set. Time is set by how many
hours you are ahead of London’s GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). Allow for daylight saving.
GPRS (data)
GPRS (Global Packet Radio System) is the method of sending data over the mobile phone network.
Data is sent from the tracker to the website. The mobile APP gets its information from the website.
The trackers 2G GSM SIM card must be capable of text and data.
GPRS (data) transmission can be turned on or off if you wish to control SIM card expenditure.
When ‘off’, the APP and website are not updated with locations.
PASSWORD The default password is 123456. This may be changed to any 6 digit number. If you
change the password and later forget it, the tracker will need to be re-set to factory defaults and then
be re-programmed.

SOS To summon help press the SOS button on the tracker for a minimum of 5 seconds. The paired
user and those programmed to receive SOS alerts will receive a text alert.
GEO-FENCE – restricting range of travel
You can set an area of permitted travel by setting an invisible boundary - a ‘geo-fence’.
This is set from either the APP or the website. A geo-fence is set with a permitted radius of travel.
Minimum 100 metres to a maximum of 5,000 metres. Multiple geo-fences can be set.
If the tracker moves outside the defined area, it will send a text alert to the paired mobile phone.
SLEEP & SLEEP BY SHOCK MODES (LED’s do not flash to preserve battery life)
If the tracker detects no movement for 10 minutes, it will go to sleep to preserve battery power. It will
automatically wake up if it receives a shock (sensitivity adjustable) or it receives a text message.
The ‘Sleep’ & ‘Sleep by shock’ commands force the tracker to sleep rather than wait 10 minutes.

SHOCK ALERT TYPES See command chart.
You can select what type of alert you require from:- no alert – text message – phone call or both.
SPEED ALERT
A speed limit can be set between 50~120kph. Speeding over the set speed limit will send a text alert to
your mobile phone.
MOVE ALERT
When the tracker has been in a stationary position for more than 3 minutes, a ‘move’ command can be
sent setting a permitted radius of travel from where the tracker is located. This can be set between
100~5000m. Movement outside this radius will send a text alert to your mobile phone.
MONITOR MODE –covert listening
The GPS tracker has a built in microphone.
Monitor mode allows you to make a telephone call to the tracker and listen to what is happening around it.
The tracker itself makes no noise and no vibration when you call it, so it is covert.
Sound quality and volume will depend on where the tracker is situated.
When in ‘monitor mode’, GPS tracking is not possible.
TRACKER MODE
This command cancels ‘monitor mode’ and returns the unit to GPS tracking.
Cautions:
1. Keep the unit dry to extend product life - Always insert the rubber cover over SIM slot and charging port
2. Clean with dry cloth. Do not clean with chemicals or detergent, etc.
3. Do not paint the unit or apply metal foil stickers.
4. Do not disassemble, tamper or attempt any repair.
5. Please use the battery and charger provided. Using other chargers will void warranties.
6. Tampering, abuse and misuse with the unit will void any warranties.

Mobile network APN – For information only when product used outside New Zealand
APN (Access Point Name) is the address of your SIM card providers data channel.
In New Zealand Vodafone has their APN built into their SIM cards so the address is
automatically configured. Location data is then automatically sent via them to the website.
You do not have to programme the APN.
If using a different mobile provider, such as when overseas, or data is not seen on the APP or
website, you may have to set the APN.
