MONGREL GEAR CHIHUAHUA QUICK START GUIDE.
CONGRATS on your new purchase of the Mongrel Gear Chihuahua V2 Mini Racing Drone.
This guide will help you get started and get your Chihuahua into the air with minimal fuss. Please note,
that this guide will assume you have some level of knowledge of RC related equipment. If not, then
please ask for assistance form someone you know, or contact us for guidance.
Let’s get started….

FLIGHT'CONTROLLER'
Your Chihuahua is equipped with an F3 based flight controller, and comes preloaded and pre-tuned
running CleanFlight. You will need to download CleanFlight and install on your computer.
You can find it here… http://github.com/cleanflight/cleanflight/releases
Install CleanFlight – We will come back to that shortly.
If you need the latest firmware – go to Support.mongrelgear.com.au and look in the Chihuahua section.
Connecting the Flight Controller to your Radio Rx.
Before we can move on to setting up Clean Flight, we need to attach the Flight Controller (FC) to your
radio Rx. Depending on what your radio system is, will depend on what connection you use on the FC.
Below is an image that shows what connections on the FC are for what Radios. If you use an SBUS
compliant radio, then use the SBUS lead (one on the right) if PPM, then use PPM ☺If you are going to
use a Spektrum Satellite Rx – Use the Spektrum port. Other connectors are displayed below for your
convenience, but please note that the Chihuahua already has the rest of the connected, So you are only
interested in the PPM/SBUS connector for your radio.

Configuring'CleanFlight'
Now that you have connected the FC, you need to ensure it’s working in CleanFlight. (CF) Launch CF,
connect the FC via a USB cable, and click the connect button (top right) to get your PC to connect to the
FC.
Ensure the sticks on your radio are moving the correct control surfaces by clicking on the Receiver Menu
and moving the sticks – See below.
If not, and the wrong sticks are moving, you can correct this with the Channel Map setting.
Once you are happy that all is well, there is only to set the flight modes to a switch, and calibrate.

Setting'up'Flight'Modes'
The Chihuahua comes shipped with one flight mode, basically aimed at the beginner. If you want to
add extra modes, please go the MODES menu and make the changes you need. The way it works is
for the switch position to match the mode you want to enable.
For example. You will see in the image below that a 3 way switch has been setup for the 3 modes of
flight. Adjust to your liking. ☺
You can even add a switch for arming, LEDs etc etc.
You are now ready to go out and fly! Enjoy! Read on for some further information.

'
Making'Changes'to'the'OSD'setup.'
You can make changes to the OSD and what is displayed, and can be done so pretty easily. You will
need FT232 VPC drivers. We have supplied an FTDI cable to do this. See below.
You can find them here… http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
• Don’t connect any power to the Chihuahua.
• Don’t connect USB on the FC to your computer.
• Install FT232 VCP driver and connect FTDI to SE port via FTDI adapter cable.
• Download MWOSD GUI zip file and open it. – From here - http://www.mwosd.com
• Select the right COM port and wait for reading OSD configuration parameters.
NOTE! When using PDB or external 5V power supply, the OSD circuits keep working and communicate with
the F303. If you plug a USB cable, the OSD circuit is cut off to ensure that the FC can communicate with
computer. When debugging OSD, do not connect the battery/USB cable. Just plug in the supplied FTDI tool
via the FTDI adapter cable.
Cables required.
Don’t connect any power to the quad and FC. Don’t connect USB on F3 to PC. Connect FTDI to SE port via
FTDI adapter cable to PC

Select the right COM port and wait for reading OSD configuration parameters

'
ReAFlashing'the'OSD'Firmware'
If it has all gone to the dogs, and you want to re-flash the firmware on the OSD, then see below.
Don’t connect any power to the quad and FC.
Don’t connect USB to the Flight Controller.
Connect FTDI to SE port via FTDI adapter cable to your PC.
1. Download MWOSD GUI zip file on www.mwosd.com
2. Download Arduino on www.arduino.cc
Open the Arduino, Select the right COM port
1. EEProm_Clear
2. Please upload the MW_OSD after eeprom_clear is done.
3. Closed the Arduino after uploaded.
4. Then open MW_OSD GUI and contact OSD to PC follow above

Setup'of'the'5.8ghz'Tx.'
The Chihuahua comes equipped with a Tx that can be adjusted from 25mW, and 200mW, and you can
change channels etc etc.
To swap between 25mW and 200mW simply hold the button the Tx for approx. 10 seconds. You will
see a small dot appear in the bottom right corner of the display. That now indicates you are in
200mW mode. See below.
Changing Channels on the FPV Tx
Pushing the button for 3 seconds, will allow you to swap between all bands, including the Race Bands.
A single push will then change between the channels in that band!
WARNING – DO NOT POWER THE CHIHUAHUA UP WITHOUT AN ANTENNA ON THE TX. YOU
WILL DAMAGE THE TX.
