Thank you for choosing the Digit 3D LED Art Panels by Monster

Smart Illuminessence. This Quick Start Guide will help you with

setup and installation of your device.

Before setup, make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the

2.4GHz Wi-Fi network that your Digit will be placed on.

You may also need to turn on location to ﬁnd nearby devices.

TIP: Do you know your Wi-Fi network name and password?

Write it down now if it’s hard to remember.

Remove your Digit segments and all components from the box.

Note that the mounting bracket and adhesive tape will be

preinstalled on each segment.

STEP 2

Download the app from the App Store

(for iPhone) or Google Play Store (for Android phones).

DESIGN TIP: Pointing the LED pattern directional markers on the back of each

panel towards or away from each other will create dierent lighting eects

when panels are combined, but you can easily change this after installation!

STEP 3

Make sure your phone or tablet is successfully connected to the

2.4GHz Wi-Fi network that your Digit will be placed on.

STEP 4

It is recommended to pair Digit in a location close to your router

BEFORE installation. Segments do not need to be connected to

the controller to pair.

NOTE: At any point during pairing mode you can unplug and

reconnect the power to cancel pairing and operate the product

without Wi-Fi. Advanced features will not be available.

Plug the power adapter into the bottom of the controller and

connect the other end to a powered wall outlet. The LED indicator

will begin blinking rapidly when it has entered pairing mode and is

ready to pair. (Any connected segments will blink as well.)

Open the app and create an

account by following the on-screen instructions.

Press and hold the power button for

5-6 seconds to enter pairing mode or

change between pairing modes.

EZ MODE -

RAPIDLY BLINKING LED (default)

EZ Mode is the default mode for quick and

easy pairing setup.

AP MODE -

SLOWLY BLINKING LED

Access Point Mode is a secondary setup that

can help connect to mixed networks. Follow

the on-screen step by step instructions.

Monster Smart devices only work on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

Many newer home Wi-Fi networks are mixed networks that are set

to 5GHz by default (ex: AT&T, Verizon) and you may need to use

AP pairing mode to connect. If you still have diculty, contact your

Internet Service Provider for assistance with 2.4GHz network setup.

In the app, select the “+” in the upper

right corner of the home screen to add a new device and then

select “Lighting (Wi-Fi)” to add your device.

You can now use the app to add voice control (see pg 12), adjust

settings, create custom lighting eects, set schedules, and more!

Once complete, your device will be connected to the network.

Conﬁrm or change the settings for your device and then click “Done”.

Your Digit is now setup and you can proceed to installation.

Conﬁrm that the LED indicator is RAPIDLY blinking.

Conﬁrm that the network displayed is your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi

network, then enter your Wi-Fi password and click “Conﬁrm”.

Conﬁrm that the LED indicator is SLOWLY blinking.

Conﬁrm the network is your mixed Wi-Fi network, enter your

Wi-Fi password and click “Conﬁrm”. Follow the on-screen

instructions to set up your device via wireless access point.

If needed, click “Net Pairing Mode” in the upper right to switch the

default EZ pairing mode for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks to AP mode for

mixed Wi-Fi networks.

INSTALLATION

STEP 1

Before installing anything, try out dierent shapes and patterns

with your segments on the ﬂoor or a large table to decide what

you would like to create! Consult the Design Guide for ideas.

STEP 2

IMPORTANT:

• Plan to install your Digit near enough to a power outlet.

• Place the controller somewhere on the bottom of your pattern.

•To ensure all segments light up, make sure all the connector

cables always point GREEN side AWAY from the controller.

• Only one GREEN plug should ever be connected a single segment.

DESIGN TIP: Pointing the directional markers on the back of each segment

towards or away from each other will create dierent lighting eects when

segments are combined, but you can easily change this after installation!

First, clean the mounting surface with rubbing alcohol and let dry.

When you’re ready to start, peel o the adhesive backing from

one Digit segment, position the segment on the wall where you

would like to begin your pattern, and press gently on the center.

NOTE: Do not attach this product to wallpaper, brick, the ceiling, or the ﬂoor.

If desired, you can use a level to help align and place this ﬁrst panel.

Once complete, your device will be connected to the network.

Conﬁrm or change the settings for your device and then click “Done”.

Your Digit is now setup and you can proceed to installation.

Conﬁrm that the LED indicator is RAPIDLY blinking.

Conﬁrm that the network displayed is your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi

network, then enter your Wi-Fi password and click “Conﬁrm”.

STEP 3

Remove the segment, leaving the bracket in place on the wall.

Press ﬁrmly on the bracket for 10 seconds to ensure a strong hold.

NOTE: If you ever want to uninstall your Digit segment in the future, simply hold

the bracket and SLOWLY stretch the damage-free removal tab down along the

wall to remove. It can be reinstalled with new 3M strips (rated at least 3lbs).

STEP 4

Attach the controller and connector cables to your ﬁrst segment as

desired to build your pattern. Plug the green controller cable in and

ensure all other cables are connected RED side in and GREEN ends

pointing out. Make sure to insert each connector fully into the port.

STEP 5

With everything installed, return your ﬁrst segment to the wall by

centering it over the mounting bracket so it snaps into place.

NOTE: Ensure the directional marker

is pointing in the desired direction for

your pattern.

NOTE: Ensure the GREEN

connectors are always pointing

AWAY from the controller.

STEP 6

Build out your Digit pattern by repeating these steps with more

segments and cables, moving away from the controller.

NOTE: For ﬂush corners in square designs, use the

outside ports. See the Design Guide for details.

STEPS:

A. Peel o the adhesive backing on a new segment.

B. Place the new segment on the wall less than

3 inches away from the last segment.

C. Remove the segment and press

ﬁrmly on the bracket for 10 seconds.

D. Attach more connectors using the

RED side, then attach the open

GREEN plug from the last segment.

E. Replace the segment over the

mounting bracket and make sure

all connections are secure.

STEP 7

Once your pattern is complete, plug the power adapter into the

controller and plug the adapter end into a powered wall outlet.

STEP 8

You’re done! Your Digit is now setup, installed, and ready to use.

Remember, you can always easily remove a segment to rotate the

directional marker or add more connectors and segments from

add-on kits to change or expand your design.

Q: None of my segments are lighting up, what should I do?

Check that the power adapter is connected securely both to the

controller and to a powered outlet. The LED indicator should

illuminate if it is powered and paired to Wi-Fi.

Ensure that the GREEN controller plug is securely connected to

the ﬁrst segment and that it is the ONLY green plug connected.

Q: What if the LED colors don’t line up between segments?

Pointing the directional arrows on the back of each segment

towards or away from each other will create dierent lighting

eects when they are combined. Try rotating some segments.

NOTE: Take care to hold down neighboring segments when

removing one. Always ensure all connections are secure.

Q: I’ve added add-on kits, why are the LEDs ﬂickering?

1 Digit Power Kit can run up to 10 Digit Segments (1 x Starter Kit +

3 x Add-on Packs). Adding more than 10 x Segments will require

grouping in an additional Power Kit to maintain normal operation.

Q: Why are only some of my segments not lighting up?

To ensure all segments light up, make sure all the cables

always point the GREEN side AWAY from the controller.

If you’ve just added a segment, try turning Digit o and on again.

Q: Why is my device failing to connect to my Wi-Fi network?

Make sure your phone or tablet is successfully connected to

the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network that your device will be placed on.

You may ﬁrst need to enable and allow location services on

your phone or tablet to ﬁnd nearby devices.

If your Wi-Fi network is a mixed 2.4GHz/5GHz network, try

using AP pairing mode for better results.

If you still have issues with your mixed network, you may need

to access your router settings and/or call your Internet Service

Provider to create a separate 2.4GHz network.

HOW TO USE

CONTROLS

Your Digit 3D LED Art Segments can be easily controlled by the

controller, using the app to access

advanced and customizable lighting eects, or by using a

compatible voice assistant product for hands-free operation.

1 Digit Power Kit can run up to 10 Digit Segments (1 x Starter Kit +

3 x Add-on Packs). Adding more than 10 x Segments will require

grouping in an additional Power Kit to maintain normal operation.

To ensure all segments light up, make sure all the cables

always point the GREEN side AWAY from the controller.

If you’ve just added a segment, try turning Digit o and on again.

NOTE: One controller can run up to 10 x Digit segments. Adding

more than 10 x segments will require an additional controller and

At any time, go to the Alexa app to set nicknames and rooms for

your devices. You can also rename devices in the Monster Smart

Using the name Digit, or the name you assigned your Digit, you can

ask Alexa to control your device, just say “Alexa,” and ask: “Turn on

my Digit”, “Set my Digit to blue”, “Set my Digit to 50%

brightness”, and more!
