Filling up with fuel
– Before removing the tank cap,
switch off the engine and leave
to cool down.
– Fill up the fuel tank outdoors or
in a well ventilated room.
– Do not fill the fuel tank to the
upper edge.
– Keep fuel away from sparks,
naked flames, continuous flames,
heat sources and other ignition
sources.
– Regularly check fuel lines, tank,
tank cap and connections for
defects and leaks and, if required,
replace.
Starting the engine
– Check that the spark plug and air
filter have been fitted correctly.
– Do not start the engine if the spark
plug has been removed.
– Leave spilt fuel to evaporate
before starting the engine.
– Start the flooded engine with the
choke in the “Off” position and the
throttle in the “Fast” position until it
switches on.
Operating the unit
– Do not tilt the engine and unit
at an angle at which the fuel can
run out.
– Never stop the engine with the
choke.
Transporting the unit
– Before transporting the unit,
empty the fuel tank or turn off the
petrol tap (optional).
Storing fuel or units with fuel in
the tank
– Never store near an oven, cooker,
water heater or similar appliances
which have a continuous flame or
ignition source.

■Turn on the petrol tap (optional)
(Fig. 3).
■Insert the ignition key and turn to
the “ON”/“I” position (Fig. 4).
Units with combined throttle/
choke
■If the engine is cold: Set the
throttle (A) to “Choke” position
(Fig. 5).
■If the engine is warm: Set the
throttle to a position between
“Fast” and “Slow” .
Units with separate choke
Do not actuate the choke if the
engine is very warm or if the engine
does not start immediately. The
engine would be flooded and would
be very difficult to start!
■If the engine is cold: Pull the choke
(Fig. 6/example illustration).
■Set throttle to “Fast” position
(Fig. 7/Example illustration)
■Turn the ignition key to the “Start”
position for a maximum
5 seconds (Fig. 4).
■Release the key as soon as the
engine starts.
■If the engine does not start
immediately, wait 10 seconds and
then repeat.
■When the engine has started,
leave the engine to warm up for
3–5 minutes before starting work.
■To do this, move the throttle to
a position between “Fast” and
“Slow” .
■Separate choke: Slowly push
back the choke.

Maintenance schedule
Before using the unit:
– Check the oil level; if required,
top up.
– Check for loose or lost parts.
– Check for leaking fuel or oil.
– Check the air inlet; if required,
clean.
After the first 5 hours:
– Change the engine oil.
Every 25 operating hours:*
– Clean the air filter (foam element).
Every 50 operating hours:*
– Clean the air filter (paper element).
Every 100 operating hours:*

Every 200 operating hours:*
– Change the oil filter.
– Replace air filter (paper element).
Every 300 operating hours:*
(annual inspection by an authorised
customer service centre)
– Clean combustion chamber.
– Check and adjust the valve play.
– Clean and grind the valve seat.
* or each season (whichever is
reached first)
The maintenance intervals depend
on the frequency of use and the
ambient conditions when the unit
is used. If the unit is very dirty or is
used very frequently, it may be
necessary to clean the engine and
its components more frequently
than indicated in the maintenance
schedule.
Checking the oil level
Always check the oil level before
using the unit. See “Preparing to
start the unit”.

Changing the oil
■Allow a cold engine to warm up
slightly. Warm oil flows better.
■Place the unit on a level surface.
■Place an adequately large
receptacle under the engine.
■Unscrew the oil drain plug
(A/Fig. 8). Drain the oil into the
receptacle.
■Screw in and tighten the oil drain
plug.
■Pull out the dipstick.
■Fill with oil, see “Preparing to start
the unit”.
Changing the oil filter
■Drain the oil, see “Changing the
oil”.
■Loosen and unscrew the old oil
filter by rotating it in an anti-
clockwise direction.
■Apply a thin layer of fresh engine
oil to the flange of the new oil filter.
■Screw in a new filter (A) until it
touches the housing (B) (Fig. 9).
Then rotate it a further
¾ revolution. Tighten by hand
only!
■Fill with oil, see “Preparing to start
the unit”.
■Start the engine, leave running for
3 minutes and check for oil leaks.
■Check the oil level and, if required
top up with oil.
Cleaning the air inlet
Before using the unit, always check
that the air inlet is free of grass and
deposits. A dirty air inlet will cause
the engine to overheat.
Do not spray the engine with water.
Do not use high-pressure or steam
cleaners.
■Remove dirt with a brush or
compressed air.
Thoroughly clean the air inlet every
100 operating hours:
(Fig. 10)
■Loosen bolts (F) and remove the
air inlet grille (A).
■Loosen bolts (D, E) and remove
the fan housing (B).
■Thoroughly clean the inner
compartment and fan. Also check
for damage.
■Re-assemble in reverse
sequence. Tighten the bolts to
maximum torque according to the
following table:
Air filter
The maintenance intervals may have
to be reduced in a very dusty
environment.
To ensure that the engine has a long
service life, never operate the engine
without an air filter or with a very dirty
air filter.

■Press down the 2 retention plates
(C) with your fingers.
■Remove the air filter cover (A).
■Take the foam element (D) and
paper element (E) out of the air
filter housing (B).
Foam element
■Wash out in water which contains
a little household detergent.
■Dry thoroughly. Do not oil!
Paper element
Do not wash the paper element.
Do not use compressed air to clean
or dry the paper element!
■Remove dust by gently tapping
the paper element.
■If the paper element is very dirty,
replace with a new one (every 200
operating hours).
