Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of our Contact/Non-Contact Tachometer, model MTP AT-8.
Careful use of this meter will provide years of reliable service.
1. Features
The digital tachometer provides fast and accurate contact and non-contact RPM and
surface speed measurements of rotating objects
Measurement types : Rotation Speed (RPM/rpm), Total Revolutions (REV), Frequency
(Hz), Surface Speed (m/min, in/min, ft/min, yd/min and Length (m, in, ft, yd)
Offers a wide measurement range and high resolution
Large easy to read LCD display with backlight
40 readings memory: 10 selectable MAX measurements, 10 selectable MIN
measurement, 10 selectable AVG measurements, 10 selectable DATA measurements
Laser sighting
2. Specifications
Display: 5 digits LCD display

Contact Test Range : 2 to 20,000 RPM
Non- Contact Test Range: 2 to 99,999 RPM
Total Test Range : 1 to 99,999
Resolution : 0.1 RPM (2 to 9999,9 RPM)
1 RPM (over 10000 RPM)
Sampling Time : 0.5 sec. (over 120 RPM)
Detecting Distance : 50mm to 500mm.
Time Base : Quartz crystal
Power Consumption: Approx. 45mA
Power Supply: 9V battery
Operation Temperature: 0ºC to 50ºC (32 to 122ºF)
Weight: 160g
Dimensions: 160 x 60 x 42
Accessories: 9V battery, carrying case, contact adapter (funnel,
cone, measuring wheel). x03 reflective strips, manual
3. Operation
Open the battery compartment cover and install a 9V battery.
Non-contact : Stick the reflective tape as near as possible to the outer edge of the object
whose rotational speed is to be measured.
Contact : Attach the contact adapter to the tachometer. Select the adapter included and
slide it onto the shaft of the contact adapter. Align the adapter with the alignment pin on
the shaft of the contact adapter.
Press the "MEAS" button. Point the laser spot at the object or bring the contact probe to
the object. Then read the measurement on the LCD display.

4. Operating Mode
In scan mode, the current measurement is displayed on the main display. The main display
will hold the last values until the tachometer automatically turns off.
Data Storage: Press the "MEAS" button until the reading is displayed. Observe the
reading and press the "MEM" button to save data. The maximum, minimum and
average values together with data of a single-shot measurement will be stored into a
memory set and the data number will then increase by one.
Recall Data: Use the "MEM" button to scroll and view the stored data point. Press the
"MEM" button once for next storage; you can view the MAX, MIN, AVG and DATA
values. Press and hold the "MEM" button to go to the next data set. You can view
Data0 to Data9 (10 selectable data measurements).
Measurement Mode Switch : Release the "MEAS" button and press the "MODE" button
before the instrument auto powers itself off (if you release the "MEAS" button, the instrument
will automatically power off after 15 seconds). There are two modes of measurements. You can
press the "MODE" button once to switch between RPM, rpm, Hz, etc. Press the "MODE"
button and hold it for approximately 3 seconds to go to the next mode of measurement. Then,
press the "MODE" button once to switch between REV, M, In, etc. Select the desired
measurement mode and press on the "MEAS" button to start measurement.

5. Measurement Consideration
Reflective mark
Cut the adhesive tape into squares of approximately 12mm (0.5") and apply one square to
each rotation shaft.
a. The non-reflective area must always be greater than the reflective area.
b. If the shaft is normally reflective, it must be covered with black tape or black paint before
attaching reflective tape.
c. Shaft surface must be clean and smooth before applying reflective tape.
Very Low RPM Measurement
To improve repeatability of low RPM measurements, it is recommended to apply additional
squares of reflective tape. Divide the reading shown on the display by the number of pieces
of reflective tape squares to calculate the actual RPM.
6. Warning
To avoid eye injuries, do not point the laser beam towards eyes or look directly into the beam.
Remove the battery if the instrument is not being used for an extended period of time.
Note :
If the battery current is weak, "BAT" symbol will be indicated on LCD display when you
press "MEM" button to make measurement.
Be careful not to allow any liquid or moisture to get inside the tachometer.
