SAFETY STANDARDS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. USE OF THE PLATFORM IS RESERVED FOR AUTHORISED AND TRAINED PERSONNEL.
2. BEFORE USING THE PLATFORM, READ THE USE AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL IN ITS ENTIRETY.
3. DO NOT OPERATE NEAR LIVE ELECTRICAL LINES.
4. USE THE PRESCRIBED SIGNS TO CLOSE OFF THE WORK AREA.
5. BEFORE STARTING OPERATIONS, MAKE SURE NO PERSONS OR OBJECTS ARE INSIDE THE WORK AREA.
6. CHECK THE SOLIDITY OF THE GROUND UPON WHICH TO STABILISE THE PLATFORM. IF NECESSARY, USE PLATES OR
PARTITION BOARDS.
7. USE THE CONTROL LEVEL TO STABILISE AND LEVEL THE PLATFORM AND CHECK THAT THE WHEELS ARE LIFTED.
STABILISATION IS CORRECT WHEN THE GREEN INDICATOR LIGHT SWITCHES ON.
8. DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM CAPACITY IN THE BASKET.
9. DO NOT USE THE PLATFORM TO LIFT MATERIALS.
10. DO NOT LOAD PERSONS OR MATERIALS ON THE BASKET WHEN IT IS ELEVATED.
11. DO NOT LOAD LARGE SURFACE MATERIALS ON THE BASKET WITH HIGH WIND RESISTANCE.
12. DO NOT USE LADDERS OR STOOLS ON THE BASKET TO INCREASE THE WORK HEIGHT.
13. AVOID CONTACT OF PARTS OF THE PLATFORM WITH FIXED OR MOVABLE OBSTACLES.
14. BEFORE MOVING THE VEHICLE, MAKE SURE THAT THE PLATFORM AND OUTRIGGERS ARE COMPLETELY CLOSED
15. IT IS FORBIDDEN TO REMAIN INSIDE THE BASKET WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING
IMPORTANT
CHECK THE CORRECT OPERATION OF THE SAFETY DEVICES DAILY.
IN CASE OF IRREGULAR OPERATION, IMMEDIATELY PRESS THE EMERGENCY BUTTON.
THE EMERGENCY MANOEUVRES ARE DESCRIBED IN THE USE AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
The identification plate is located near the control station.
The presence of the plate with CE mark guarantees that the machine was built in compliance with the provisions of European
Community directives.
For any request, always indicate the machine model and serial number.

2.2. INTRODUCTION
The machine in question was designed and built in compliance with European Community directives concerning the free
circulation of industrial products in EEC countries; it is therefore delivered complete with all documentation required by said
directives.
2.3. AIM OF THE TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
The technical documentation consists of folders that contain a set of manuals, diagrams, drawings and annexes about the
use and maintenance of the machine in question.
MULTITEL PAGLIERO S.p.A. declines any and all responsibility for improper machine use and/or for damages caused
following the execution of operations not envisaged by the technical documentation.
2.4. RECIPIENTS
This manual is intended for:
♦the job supervisor;
♦the operator;
♦qualified personnel authorized to carry out maintenance on the machine.
This manual is intended for operators assigned the task of using and managing the machine in all phases of its technical
service life. It contains topics that refer to proper machine use, for the purpose of keeping its functional and qualitative
characteristics unchanged over time. It also contains all information and warnings for using the machine under completely
safe conditions.

2.6. INFORMATION ON HOW TO USE THE MANUAL
The document is the instructions and warnings manual in compliance with EC regulations, intended for operators assigned

the task of handling the machine through allphases of its technical service life.
IMPORTANT!
It is important to keep this manual in a place that is easy to access, near the machine and made
known to all users (operators and maintenance personnel). The operators and maintenance workers
must be able to quickly find and consult the manual and its annexes, in any situation.
This document forms integral part of the supply for safety purposes as well. Therefore:
♦it must be kept in an easily accessible place and known to all users (operators and maintenance personnel);
♦it must always be available for consultation purposes;
♦it must be kept whole (in all its parts);
♦it must accompany the machine until its it demolished (including in case of relocations, sale, rental, lease, etc.);
♦it has to indicate any changes that were made apportate alla macchina.
The operators and maintenance workers must be able to quickly find and examine the manual and its annexes, in any
situation.
Prior to carrying out any operation, it is mandatory to read all the documentation in order to prevent damaging the machine
itself, or causing injury to people and damage to property. It its prohibited to operate the machine in case of any doubts
on the proper interpretation of these instructions.

2.7. ADVICE FOR THE BUYER
As regards the buyer of the machine, it is recommended paying attentionto the following items:
♦define the documentation in compliance with EC regulations for this machine, analysing and finalizing this documentation;
♦determining, for each procedure, the list of personnel assigned to it;
♦developing and documenting training activities aimed at personnel assigned to machine use or belonging to the
aforementioned list (repeat the training and update the lists in case of new-hires).
By doing so, the buyer demonstrates to have done everything in its powers to provide the users with a safe workplace;
moreover, this is the only way that, in case of injury caused by failure to comply with the established procedures, the buyer
is able to decline all responsibility.

2.8. ADVICE FOR THE USER
As regards the users of the machine, we recommend paying attention to the following items:
♦read through this entire manual (for a better understanding of the procedures);
♦operate in full compliance with company procedures and with the procedures indicated in the technical documentation;
♦refrain from carrying out actions or initiatives other than the indicated ones unless agreed upon with the person in
charge.
By doing so, the user demonstrates to have operated in full compliance with the procedures. Any job or operation other than
the indicated ones may be interpreted as an action that was not requested, consequently arbitrary, for which the executing
one is individually liable.
2.9. GLOSSARY OF THE TERMS USED
TERM DEFINITION
COUNTER CLOCKWISE Convention; counter clockwise means the direction of rotation, precisely counter clockwise,
intended when looking at the platform from above.
WORK AREA Surface concerned by the movements of the platform, including the outriggers
ARTICULATION Part of the extendible structure that allows the mutual direction of two different parts of
the articulation itself.
FORWARD Convention; the term forward means the running direction of the truck.
CONTROL BAR Bar used to operate the hand pump
SPIRIT BUBBLE Instrument used to check that the maximum allowed inclination limit is complied with
during the levelling phase of the platform.
MAIN BOOM Boom connected to the turret that supports the entire overlaying structure (joint, etc.). It can
be equipped with one or more telescopic extensions.
JIB BOOM
Secondary booms that can be adjusted with respect to the main one through the joint. They
provide support for the end part of the extendible structure. It can be equipped with one or
more telescopic extensions.
CARRIAGE Vehicle on which the platform is installed
BASKET Platform equipped with parapets and control panel inside which the workers stand.
SAFETY COMPONENT:

♦the breakdown and/or malfunction of this component jeopardizes people's safety;
♦not crucial for the purpose for the purpose for which the machine was designed or that,
for said function, can be replaced with other components.
HOURS COUNTER Instrument that indicates the hours of operation of the platform.
COUNTER-FRAME Structure anchored to the vehicle frame joined to the extendible structure through the
slewing pin.
OUTRIGGERS CONSENT It is not possible to manoeuvre the platform when the stabilization has not been properly
carried out. The consent is indicated by the turning on of a light signalling proper stabilization.
PROTECTION DEVICE Device that reduces the risk.

TERM DEFINITION
RIGHT HAND SIDE Convention; the right hand side means the right side of the carriage as seen from the
driver's seat of the truck.

MANUFACTURER
Natural person or legal entity that designs and/or builds a machine or a quasi-machine
covered by this directive, and is responsible for conformity of the machine or of the quasi-
machine with this directive for purposes of placing it on the market under its own name or

machine or a quasi-machine covered by this directive.
INCLINOMETER Device that measures inclination.
BACKWARDS Convention; the term backwards means the reverse running direction of the truck.

HARMONIZED STANDARDS
Technical specifications adopted by a standardization body, or the European Standardization
Body (CEN), the European Committee for Electro-technical Standardization (CENELEC) or
the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), within the framework of a
mandate issued by the Commission in compliance with the procedures set up by directive
98/34/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 22 June 1998, which provides
for an information procedure in the sector of technical standards and regulations and of
rules pertaining to services to the information society and not binding in nature.
AUTHORIZED WORKSHOP Company organization consisting of one or more skilled technicians authorized by the
Manufacturer to carry out extraordinary maintenance and repair jobs.
OPERATOR Person trained and instructed in the use of the PLE.
OPTIONAL Optional on request. May not be installed on the platform
CLOCKWISE Convention; clockwise means the direction of rotation, precisely clockwise, intended when
looking at the platform from above.
DANGER! A potential source of injury or damage to a person's health.
EXPOSED PERSON Anyone who is standing entirely or in part in a dangerous area.
LOADER DECK Top surface of the carriage; it is the surface to which the slewing pin is secured.
PLATFORM MULTITEL machine described in the manual intended as the whole of all its parts.
ELEVATING WORK PLATFORM As an acronym, PLE is a machine aimed at accessing elevated work positions.
POSITIONING Operation through which the carriage is levelled by means of the outriggers.
SEALS They consist of steel wires secured by lead seals. They are used to signal any tampering
with the machine.

HAND PUMP Device for the manual supply of the hydraulic circuit.
BASKET CONTROL STATION A control panel is located in the chest that can be used to move the platform- This is the
main control station.
CONTROL STATION FROM THE
BASE
There is a control panel on the carriage that can be used to move the platform while staying
at ground level. It can be activated instead of the basket control panel.
POWER TAKE-OFF Device that takes power from the carriage engine and delivers it to the hydraulic circuit
supply pump.
SLEWING PIN Bearing that allows the extendible structure to rotate with respect to the counter-frame.
REDUCER Mechanical device operated by a hydraulic motor that generates a force around an axis. It
can be used to activate rotations between the platform components.
RISK Combination of the probability and gravity of an injury or damage to a person's health that
may arise during a dangerous situation.
RESIDUAL RISK
Risk that could not be eliminated or reduced during the design phase, against which the
protections are not effective (either in part or in full).
The manual (section 3) indicates the residual risks and the information, instructions,
warnings/prescriptions for managing Residual risk for which the user is responsible (Ref.
UNI EN ISO 12100:2010).
LEFT HAND SIDE Convention; the left hand side means the left side of the carriage as seen from the driver's
seat of the truck.
PTO LIGHT Light located in the vehicle cab that indicates when the PTO is engaged
OUTRIGGERS Jack-operated devices that allow the carriage to be levelled by lifting it off the ground.
AUTOMATIC Manoeuvring procedure of the outriggers aimed at proper carriage levelling.
EXTENDIBLE STRUCTURE Set of arms and articulations and basket that make up the moving pat of the platform.
SKILLED TECHNICIAN Technician trained to carry out routine and extraordinary maintenance on the platform.
IMPROPER USE Using the machine in a way other than the one indicated in the use instructions
DANGEROUS AREA Area concerned by the machine operations within which there is a risk for people to suffer
injuries, including fatal ones, or damage to their health.
2.10. UPDATE PROCEDURE
In the even it becomes necessary to make changes to the content of the manual, the company MULTITEL PAGLIERO S.p.A.
will send to the Customer a copy of the changed paragraphs and a new cover indicating the new release, which must be
replaced in the supplied manual.
In the event that the machine in question undergoes such changes as to make the Manufacturer consider it necessary to
update the technical documentation, the Manufacturer will arrange for notifying the Customer with regards to the change in
the documentation and for sending an updated copy of the sections concerned by said changes. The Customer is responsible
for destroying the obsolete sections.

3. PRELIMINARY GENERAL AND SAFETY INFORMATION

3.2. SAFETY-RELATED TERMS
The areas around the machine are subdivided as follows:
TERM DEFINITION
WORK AREA
These are the areas where the operators can stand during start-up and regular operation of the
machine. Moreover, the operators can intervene from these areas in case of need or emergency,
always complying with the limits of the assigned tasks and of the operating procedures.
DANGEROUS AREA All areas inside the machine and within its range of action are considered dangerous areas. Access
to this area is prohibited to anyone while the machine is working.
CONTROL AREA These are the areas where operators can carry out command and control operations of the machine
functions.
ATTENTION!
While the machine is working, it is absolutely prohibited to operate in the dangerous areas, even if
the risks have been eliminated or reduced by the protections adopted.

3.3. DEFINITION OF THE QUALIFICATIONS OF INDIVIDUALS WHO INTERACT WITH THE
MACHINE
Operators are individuals assigned the task of manoeuvring, performing routing maintenance on and cleaning the machine
(each one within the limits of the assigned tasks). They are classified as follows:
TERM DEFINITION
"BASKET" OPERATOR Individuals who have to have gone through specific training and who are required to be well familiar
with this use and maintenance manual.
GROUND OPERATOR
Individuals who have to have gone through specific training and who are required to be well familiar
with this use and maintenance manual. The presence of the ground operator allows the emergency
procedure to be carried out in case of need.
WORKERS Individuals who are elevated in order to carry out the jobs. They do not have to be trained, except
for the risks of working at height.
MAINTENANCE WORKER
Skilled but not necessarily trained individual who deals with routine maintenance of the machine.
The instructions contained in this manual for routine maintenance provide the knowledge needed
to carry it out.
SKILLED
TECHNICIAN
Person specifically trained and qualified to carry out maintenance or repair jobs that require in-depth
knowledge of the machine, its operation, safety devices and the operating modes, and who can
recognize dangers resulting from machine use and consequently are able to avoid them (Example:
performs the annual maintenance on the machine).
EXPOSED
PERSON Anyone who is standing entirely or in part in a dangerous area.
ATTENTION!
When accessing the various areas, the operators must always comply with:
♦the limits of the assigned tasks;
♦the warnings listed on the plates;
♦the planned operating procedures.
ATTENTION!
During regular machine use, it is advisable that at least 2 operator be present, both suitably trained:
♦the first operator inside the basket for execution of jobs at height;
♦the second operator on the ground to oversee the machine and provide assistance to the first
operator, ready to step in in case of dangerous situations or emergency manoeuvres need to
be carried out.
If the environmental conditions allow it, it is also possible to manoeuvre the platform from the
ground with the workers only inside the basket. In this case, only one operator is needed.
IMPORTANT!
In case the operator chooses to manoeuvre the platform from he basket and there is no second
operator on the ground, you need to bear in mind the fact that the emergency manoeuvre cannot be
carried out immediately in case of a breakdown, and that another operator ready to take action will
have to be contacted. The possibility has to be considered very carefully.

3.4. RESIDUAL RISKS
The Manufacturer has provided a set of safety devices which are described and listed in the chapter “MACHINE
DESCRIPTION”.
The operators, on their part, are required to use the personal protection equipment suited to the risk being faced. In the
procedures described in this manual, we will indicate the personal protection equipment needed for each operation.
As far as possible, safety has been incorporated in the design and construction of the machine; nevertheless, certain risks
still remain against which the operators must be protected, especially during the maintenance, installation and cleaning
phases.
The final customer and/or the user customer will be responsible for:
♦training and enhancing the awareness of the personnel assigned to machine operation.
RESIDUAL RISK DESCRIPTION
RISK OF CRUSHING
AND SEVERING OF LIMBS
Contact with the jointed parts of the machine, such as outriggers, column and boom
articulations can create the risk of crushing and severing of limbs.
KEEP AT A SAFE DISTANCE DURING THE MANOEUVRES, DO NOT TOUCH THE MACHINE
OR ITS PARTS DURING THE MOVING PHASES.
Risk due to the presence of people in the work area of the machine.
DO NOT OPERATE THE MACHINE IF THE WORK AREA IS NOT CLEAR OF PEOPLE OR
THINGS; PROHIBIT UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL FROM ACCESSING THE AREA; ALWAYS
KEEP AT A SAFE DISTANCE; ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE WORK AREA STAYS CLEAR.
RISK OF TIPPING OVER
Risk due to overload and horizontal or inclined thrusts.
DO NOT EXCEED THE ALLOWED SERVICE LOADS.
Risk due to soft ground.
CHECK THE CONSISTENCY OF THE GROUND AND THE PRESSURES APPLIED TO THE
SOIL BY THE MACHINE.
Risk due to wind gusts.
DO NOT OPERATE UNDER DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS.
Risk due to working on uneven or irregular soil (kerbs, for example).
CHECK THE CONDITIONS OF THE GROUND, PAY ATTENTION TO THE POSITIONING OF
THE OUTRIGGERS.
Risk due to collision against an obstacle located on the ground or in the air.
THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE WORK AREA PRIOR TO OPERATING THE MACHINE, AND
PAY THE UTMOST ATTENTION DURING THE MANOEUVRES.
RISK OF ELECTROCUTION Risk due to impact or contact with a power line.
KEEP AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE POWER LINES.
THERMAL RISK
Residual risks of the thermal type are concentrated near the electric engines.
TO PREVENT THE RISK OF BURNS, IT IS THEREFORE IMPORTANT TO ABSOLUTELY
AVOID ANY DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE HOT PARTS OF THE ENGINES. IF IT IS
NECESSARY TO OPERATE NEAR THE ENGINES FOR MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS OR
REPAIRS, WAIT UNTIL THEY HAVE COOLED DOWN COMPLETELY.

3.5. PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT
Workers are required to wear work clothing (with tight-fitting sleeves) and personal protection equipment (gloves, goggles,
face masks, etc.) in compliance with the laws and safety standards in force in the country where the machine is used.
The signs provided below represent the personal protection equipment.

3.6. NOISE LEVEL
The guaranteed sound power level is indicated on the platform turret and inside the TDE attached to this manual.
The noise level to which workers are exposed during platform operation is different from the measured one since noise is
affected by certain factors, such as:
♦type and characteristics of the site (workplace)
♦duration of the exposure;
♦other machines operating nearby;
The user is specifically responsible for applying the consequent preventive and protective measures, in compliance with the
laws in force in the country where the machine is installed and used.
DANGER!
It is advisable to carefully analyse the installation procedure in order to evaluate the need for
personal protection equipment against noise (earmuffs or ear plugs) for operators working near
the machine.
