Introduction Procedure
This PIC (programmable integrated circuit)
update to the AV2 audio-visual processor
adds decode and user interface
enhancements. Follow the update
instructions carefully. Incorrect installation
of the PIC can result in damage.
The update procedure requires removal
and replacement of the AV2 top panel
and board mounted PIC.
PIC socket PIC
1. Switch off and disconnect the AV2
from the system and the mains supply.
2. Invert the AV2 on a clean work surface
covered with protective material - a
towel for example.
3. Prize out the small plastic plug located
on the underside of the unit centrally
towards the front panel.
4. Insert a No. 2 Pozi-Drive screwdriver
through the access hole revealed by
removal of the plastic plug - a
concealed screw will be found directly
in line with the hole. Engage the screw
unscrew and remove it through the
hole.
5. Identify the four large Pozi-Drive screws
closest to the feet on the underside of
the unit - two along each side.
Remove all four screws and the star
washers fitted under the front two.
These screws release the top panel.
6. Hold the AV2 along each side, gripping
to retain the top panel in place, and
turn it over.
7. Remove the cover, refit the concealed
screw (removed in Stage 4) to the
underside of the cover with two turns
clockwise. The top panel is now ready
to be slid back into position after the
PIC replacement. Put the top panel
safely to one side.
8. Attach the eath strap around your left (if
right handed) wrist and connect its clip
to any prominent internal unpainted
metallic feature of the AV2 case.
9. Use the diagram opposite to identify the
PIC Socket and PIC. Note the PIC
orientation in the socket. There is a
chamfer with a dot located on one side
of the PIC. The replacement PIC must
be inserted with the same orientation.
10. You will notice two recesses on
opposite corners of the PIC Socket.
Place the small barbed end of the PIC
extraction tool into one of the recesses
in the corner of the PIC Socket. Lever
the PIC partially out of its socket.
Place the barbed end into the opposite
recess and lever the PIC fully out of
the socket.
11. Place the replacement PIC squarely
into the socket. ENSURE CORRECT
ORIENTATION. Apply mild pressure to
push the PIC into the socket so that it
is flush to the top of the socket.
12. Lower the top panel back into place,
front edge first, with the back edge
raised slightly and positioned 20mm
rearward. Slide the panel forward at
the last moment so that the screw
loosened in Stage 4 engages with the
slot feature in the unit’s front panel.
13. Hold the top panel in place while
turning the AV2 upside down again.
Replace and tighten the four panel
retaining screws, ensuring the front
pair are fitted with star washers, and
tighten the concealed screw through
the access hole. Replace the plastic
plug.
14. Your AV2 has now been updated. Re-
connect it to the system and mains,
and switch on. Reinstate the
parameters in each setup routine.
To complete the update procedure you will
need the update kit comprising a
replacement PIC and PIC removal tool and
an earthing strap. A No. 2 Pozi-Drive
screwdriver will also be required.
Replacement of the PIC will destroy your
AV2 set-up. The blank tables on the back
page of this document can be used to
record your preferred parameter settings.
Switch the AV2 into each setup mode,
cycle through the parameters and note
the settings in the appropriate boxes.
