Nashbar Deluxe User manual

always a great deal DELUXE CHILD SEAT
Thank you for your purchase of a Nashbar Deluxe Child Seat. This instruction manual contains
important information about the features of your child carrier and guidelines for its safe use.
Please read the entire manual carefully before using your new child seat. If you are unsure about
assembling or correctly attaching this child seat to your bicycle, please consult a qualified bicycle
mechanic.
SAFETY GUIDELINES:
1. This carrier should not be mounted on bicycles with rear suspension.
2. The bicycle to which the carrier is attached must be in good working order, of a type appropriate for the
additional load, and of proper size and adjustment for the rider. Refer to the information supplied with the
bicycle, or obtain information from the manufacturer or supplier of the bicycle to verify the suitability of the
bicycle.
3. Care must be taken to ensure that the carrier is not connected to any bicycle frame mounting points that
could deform under load and affect the structural integrity of the bicycle.
4. If the fitting of the carrier involves removal of the bicycle’s rear reflector, it must be refitted elsewhere to
provide the level of safety required by law. A rear reflector that complies with CPSC regulations must be visible
whether the carrier is on the bicycle or not.
5. All rack and carrier attachment hardware must be tightened securely and should be checked frequently and
retightened if necessary.
6. If you are unsure of your ability to assemble or install the carrier correctly, please consult a qualified bicycle
mechanic.
7. The harness (restraint straps) must be adjusted to fit the child snugly and must be worn at all times. When no
child is being carried, fasten the retention system buckles so the straps do not hang loosely.
8. A bicycle seat may have exposed coil springs. These should be guarded to prevent pinching of a child’s
fingers.
9. This carrier is not designed for children who cannot adequately support their head or sit unaided.
10. Do not carry a child who is too young to sit comfortably and independently in the carrier. A pediatrician
should be consulted before any child younger than 12 months is carried.
11. This carrier is designed for children weighing up to 40 lbs (approximately 18 kgs). Ensure initially and check
periodically that the child’s weight does not exceed the load limit of the carrier.
12. Any child using this carrier should wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet. Most states have laws requiring
children under the age of 18 to wear helmets while riding on bicycles. Adults should also wear helmets for
maximum safety.
13. The load of a child carrier may reduce the stability and alter the riding characteristics of the bicycle,
particularly the braking and steering.
14. Presence of a child carrier on a bicycle may require alteration of the method used by the rider to mount or
dismount the bicycle. Care must be taken whenever the rider gets on or off the bicycle.
15. Never leave a child on an unattended bicycle.
16. Never leave the child in a carrier with the bicycle supported only by a kickstand.
17. Never ride in inclement or hazardous conditions.
18. Before each ride, ensure the mounted carrier does not interfere with braking, pedaling or steering of the
bicycle.
19. Never ride the bicycle at night without adequate lighting.
20. Always remove the carrier from the bicycle when the bicycle is being transported on a motor vehicle. This is
necessary because the high wind force may damage the carrier.
21. Do not attached additional luggage or accessories to the carrier, as they may exceed the carrier load limit
and reduce bicycle stability. Total load limit for the carrier is 40 lbs.
22. Do not modify the carrier in any way.
23. Do not allow any of the child’s body, clothing, shoelaces or toys to come in contact with moving parts of the
bicycle.
24. Make sure that the carrier does not interfere with the safe operation of the bicycle.
25. Avoid rough roads.

guidelines may result in serious injury or death.

ASSEMBLY:
Tools required: Standard No.2 Phillips screwdriver and adjustable
wrench.
Step One:
Attach the headrest (B) to the child seat (A) using the three included
attachment screws (C). See Figure 1.
Step Two:
Attach rear rack (L) to bicycle. See Figures 2 and 3. Remove the bolts,
nuts and washers (N) from the seatpost clamp (M). Place the clamp
around the bicycle seatpost. Insert one rubber shim (T) between the
clamp and the seatpost to prevent scratching the seatpost. Install the
clamp bolts, nuts and washers, but do not fully tighten them yet.
Step Three:
Remove the threaded knobs and bolts (R) from both seat stay clamps
(Q). Fit the clamps around the bicycle seat stays and insert a rubber
shim (T) between each clamp and the bicycle frame to prevent
scratching the bicycle frame. Replace the bolts and attach the threaded
knobs, but do not fully tighten them yet.
Step Four:
Adjust the position of the seatpost and seat stay clamps until the top
surface of the rack is level (parallel to the ground). Once the rack is
level, securely tighten all the attachment hardware:
1. Securely tighten the four bolts (P) that attach the seatpost clamp to the rack.
2. Securely tighten the seatpost clamp hinge bolt (O).
3. Securely tighten both seatpost clamp bolts (N).
4. Securely tighten the two bolts (S) that attach the seat stay clamps to the rack.
5. Securely tighten both seat stay clamp knobs (R).
INSTALLATION:
Step One:
Attach the child seat to the rear rack. Loosen the red knob (I) on top of the locking lid (H) and lift the lid.
See Figure 4. Remove the pin clip (K) from the end of the red safety bar (J) on the underside of the seat and remove
the safety bar. See Figure 5.
Step Two:
Position the front of the child seat at the rear of the rack and slide the seat forward onto the rack. As you slide the seat forward, make sure the rails of the
rack are positioned inside the tabs on the underside of the seat. See Figure 6.
Step Three:
Slide the seat forward until the stop tab on the back of the seat contacts the rear of the rack and the positioning tab at the front of the seat is forward of the
crossbar at the front of the rack. See Figures 4 and 6.
Step Four:
Close the locking lid (H) and firmly tighten the red knob (I). Pull up on the lid to make sure it is locked. You should not be able to open the lid once the knob
is tightened.
Step Five:
Insert the red safety bar (J) on the underside of the seat and install the pin clip (K) in the end of the safety bar. See Figure 5. Make sure the seat is secure on
the rack by trying to move it side to side and front to back. If properly attached, the seat should not move.
USING THE CHILD SEAT:
Step One:
Unbuckle the seat harness and raise the grab handle by releasing the tab on the left side of the seat and lifting the handle.
Step Two:
Place the child in the seat, buckle the harness and adjust the straps for a snug fit. Close the grab handle and make sure the tab at the end of the handle is
fully engaged (it should clip over the edge of the seat).
Step Three:
Adjust the position of the foot stirrups and leg straps. Open the cam lever on the back of each foot stirrup (see Figure 5) and raise or lower the stirrup to the
desired position (this will be easier if the leg straps are opened). Once the stirrups are positioned correctly, close the cam levers. Note that the leg straps can
also be positioned higher or lower by using the upper or lower positioning slots.
REMEMBER:
1. Before each use, check to ensure all rack mounting hardware is securely tightened and that the seat is securely attached to the rack.
2. Rider and passenger should always wear properly fitting helmets.
Ride safely and enjoy your Nashbar™ Deluxe Child Seat!
