Conventions
The following conventions are used in this guide:

The sequence File»Page Setup»Options directs you to pull down the File menu, select the
Page Setup item, and select Options from the last dialog box.
This icon denotes a note, which alerts you to important information.
This icon denotes a caution, which advises you of precautions to take to avoid injury, data loss,
or a system crash. When this symbol is marked on the product, refer to the Read Me First:
Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility document that shipped with your device for
precautions to take.
bold Bold text denotes items that you must select or click in the software, such as menu items and
dialog box options. Bold text also denotes parameter names.
bold italic Bold italic text denotes variables that you must select or click in the software, such as menu
items and dialog box options that vary depending on your system.
italic Italic text denotes variables, emphasis, or a cross-reference. Italic text also denotes text that is
a placeholder for a word or value that you must supply.
monospace Text in this font denotes text or characters that you should enter from the keyboard, sections
of code, programming examples, and syntax examples. This font is also used for the proper
names of disk drives, paths, directories, programs, subprograms, subroutines, device names,
functions, operations, variables, filenames, and extensions.

Italic text in this font denotes text that is a placeholder for a word or value that you must
italic
supply.
NI SwitchBlock High density expandable switch carrier and interconnectable cards that enable greater
switching capacity per slot than standalone PXI switch modules. The NI SwitchBlock
operates within an NI PXI chassis or, when connected to a PXI peripheral slot or a
PXI Express hybrid peripheral slot, within an NI PXIe chassis.
PCI Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) is a high-performance expansion bus architecture
originally developed by Intel to replace ISA and EISA.
Platform Text in this font denotes a specific platform and indicates that the text following it applies only
to that platform.
PXI PCI eXtensions for Instrumentation (PXI) is a rugged, open system for modular
instrumentation based on CompactPCI, with special mechanical, electrical, and software
features.
PXIe PXI express integrates PCI Express technology into the PXI backplane. This integration
results in significantly increased bandwidth, ensured backward compatibility, and additional
timing and synchronization features.
