DESCRIPTION
Fan Starter 4 is a direct starter for Nederman NCF Fans.
The Fan Starter is fitted with a 4-pole main switch interlocked with the door so
that the door can not be opened if the switch is on.
Control voltage is 24 V AC supplied by an internal transformer.
The Fan Starter is prepared for connection with different components in an
extraction system. If Neutral is connected (N) a single-phase supply of 230 V
is available for external equipment, such as FILTERMAX, MAGNA-system or
automatic dampers. Supply with 24 V AC 75 VA, (100 VA after start of motor)
is also available for Fan Timer or other external 24 V AC equipment. The 24 V
AC can be connected continuously (terminal 3-4) or with S1 in pos. "AUTO"
(terminal 111-112, not available when connected to FILTERMAX)

Fan Starter 4

The Fan Starter can be started and stopped with the switch on the door, by
turning it to position "1" it starts and by turning back to "0" it stops. Position
"AUTO" is used to start and stop the Fan Starter when connecting external
start/stop signals. Fan Timer or other maintained start/stop signal as well as
remote impulse start and stop can be connected.
If not position "AUTO" shall be used the text "AUTO" can be covered by the
enclosed plastic label.
When connected to FILTERMAX the AUTO-0-1 switch acts as a remote start
switch for the FILTERMAX. The FILTERMAX Fan start-output will then
activate the contactors in the Fan Starter. With FILTERMAX the remote
impulse start and stop can not be connected.
The white indication lamp indicates running fan. The yellow fault indication
lamp indicates basically tripped motor overload protector, with FILTERMAX it
indicates the ALARM signal (service or A-Alarm). Tripped motor overload
protector will be indicated on the FILTERMAX Control panel with a red lamp at
the fan symbol.
The start of a NCF fan is a rather heavy start and repeated starts will trip the
motor overload protector. There is a timer installed then repeated stop could
be expected. With switch S1 is in position ”Auto” when a start signal from
external contacts for example hood or automatic dampers.
External start signal must be a potential free contact. To start from extraction
arms with light a voltage separation relay must be used, see accessories.

Installation
Study these installation instructions carefully before proceeding.
Failure to observe the warnings and instructions given may cause a
malfunction or personal hazard.
Warning! Before you begin read "Safety" on page 3.
Dimension the cables and fuses in accordance with the motor current.
Always pay attention to local legislation when sizing the cables and fuses.
Small area in a 24 V system can cause a poor short circuit protection. For
terminals 3 -114 use minimum 1,5 mm2if cable is up to 10 m long and
minimum 2,5 mm2if cable is up to 20 m long. Larger area if cable is longer.
The current value for the motor overload protector has to be set.
For the direct starter set the value to the motor current at 400 V. See the
motor plate.
Connect the motor in accordance with the power circuit diagram.
Check the fan direction.
A separate safety/maintenance switch shall be installed close to the fan, if the
fan and the Fan Starter are mounted in different locations. The control contact
in the safety/maintenance switch shall be connected to the Fan Starter
(terminal 109-110).
