SAFETY NOTES
Warning! Do not work inside the ma-
chine unless you are a trained mechanic or
electrician. Stop the machine, and discon-
nect the power cord before you open the
machine. Only a trained electrician should
work with the electrical parts! A voltage
of 120 Volts may be present inside this
machine. The power source can produce
enough voltage and current to be very dan-
gerous!
Warning! This machine is equipped with
a three-pronged plug. One of the prongs on
the plug provides a safety grounding fea-
ture. Be sure the plug is always connected
to a properly wired three-prong outlet.
Do not use a two-prong adapter without
grounding the machine properly. Never
remove the third prong from the plug. The
safety grounding feature provides extra pro-
tection in the event of an electrical problem.
The apparatus must be earthed.
As the colors of the wires may not corre-
spond with the colored markings identify-
ing the terminals in your plug, proceed as
follows:
The wire which is colored GREEN must be
connected to the terminal in the plug which
is marked by the letter E or by the safety
earth symbol or colored GREEN.
The wire which is colored WHITE must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter N.
The wire which is colored BLACK must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter L.
Warning! The mains input supply is
fused on both live and neutral sides. Ser-
vice personnel should be aware that a mains
voltage can exist even if no lighted neon
shows.
Warning! Most of the moving parts are
protected by covers. Don’t operate the ma-
chine unless all of the covers are in place.
Opening covers include safety interlock
switches. If a cover is opened, the switch
will stop the machine from running. Don’t
try to bypass the interlocks, and don’t use
the machine if the interlocks are not work-
ing.
Warning! Don’t wear any loose clothing
when you are working near the machine. If
a bit of clothing becomes caught in one of
the moving parts, you may be pulled into
the machine very quickly. This force can be
surprisingly powerful - you may not be able
to resist it. Take care with neckties, sashes,
long sleeves, or any other loose clothing.
Dangling jewelry can also present a hazard.
Remove any of these items of loosely-tting
clothing, or tie the loose sections out of the
way so they can’t be caught by the machine.
Long hair can also be dangerous when work-
ing near this type of machine. If you have
long hair, tie it back or tuck it under a hat.
Be especially careful around the folding rolls
near the center of the machine.
Caution! If a jam occurs, the
machine should stop by itself. Use the jog
buttons or jam clearance lever to move
the rollers forwards so you can pull out the
jammed forms.
Caution! Keep the machine clean.
Wipe off the outside of the cabinet from
time to time to keep the paper dust from
collecting. If you notice that paper dust is
collecting inside the machine, open the cov-
ers and vacuum it out, or blow it out with an
airduster.
Caution! Keep the work area around
the machine clean. Don’t allow paper trim
and waste to pile up. If the work area in-
cludes a lot of loose paper scraps, an
operator may slip and fall.
IMPORTANT!!
IN THE EVENT OF ANY EMER-
GENCY, OR TO STOP THE MA-
CHINE FOR ANY OTHER REASON,
STRIKE THE RED EMERGENCY

TROL PANEL

1. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1.1 Unpack machine as shown in appen-
dix 1 on the following page.
CAUTION: The machine is very heavy
(140lbs) and requires two people to lift
it from its packaging. If in doubt, em-
ploy suitable lifting equipment.
1.2 Visually inspect machine for damage,
eg. external surfaces, paper hopper, side
guides etc.
Ensure that covers are not damaged or
displaced. Check action of opening covers to
conrm correct operation, and that safety
microswitches function correctly. Check that
all warning labels are legible (see appendix
for locations).
1.3 Check that loose or removable parts
are supplied and/or in place:
i) Mains Lead:
Part No. 162-321
Ensure that mains cord and its connectors
are sound and undamaged.
ii) Operator Manual Part No. K1270A
iii) Installation Report
1.4 Observing the caution Using the as-
sistance of a second person, carefully lift the
machine into place onto a suitable table or
desk, ensuring that the rubber feet do not
buckle under the machine. If buckling does
occur, lift the machine slightly to clear the
surface and the feet should return to their
correct shape. Caution: The table or desk
must be of sufcient strength to withstand
the weight of the machine, which is 140 lbs.
1.5 Plug in machine and switch on.
1.6 Run machine with no forms. Check
correct action of clutches and transmission.
Ensure that cover safety microswitches oper-
ate correctly and that machine stops if
fold plate 1 assembly is opened.
seal roller cover is unlatched.
1.7 Load machine with customer’s statio-
nery and run to check that all functions are
correct to the customer’s requirements.
1.8 Assuming machine has run to speci-
cation, commence operator training.
Particularly instruct operators how to clean
sensors, which is described in the Operator
Manual. Stress that if operating faults occur,
all sensors and fold rollers should be cleaned
before further action is taken.

APPENDIX 1. UNPACKING THE MACHINE
Remove the outer packaging, leaving the machine in the base. Lift the machine out of the
base using two people as shown in g. 1 below.
Caution: the machine is very heavy (140lbs) and lifting should not be attempted
unless those concerned are capable of lifting this weight.
Dismantle the box, leaving the LM-5.5 in the base moulding.•
Remove all loose items (documents etc).•
Lifting from below using the access cavities, lift the machine•
out of the moulding and onto a surface capable of supporting
the weight (see above). Do NOT lift using either of the fold
plates.
The machine must now be commissioned by the site engineer.•
