Introduction
Conventions Used in this Guide
In this Guide, text that will be displayed onLCD screen is set in Courier font.
About This Guide
This User’s Guide is intended to help you set up and use the full features of the MAX IP10.
MAX IP10 supports maintenance interfaces of web-browser, telnet and keypad/LCD interface.
This Guide describes how to operate and configure MAX IP10 using keypad and LCD.
1. MAX IP10 Overview
1.1. Features
MAX IP10 supports following features:
-IP (Internet Protocol) phone operation with Net2Phone VOIP protocol
-Analog phone operation for local phone call
-Local configuration via keypad/LCD
-Remote configuration via Telnet or Web-browser
-S/W upgrade via FTP(New S/W notice will be displayed on LCD automatically)

-Call Hold (holds IP phone call while using analog phone)

Key Type Key Function
Menu Press [Menu] key to enter MAX IP10 configuration menu.
INFO Press [INFO]key to view account & other data.
During configuration, It functions as backspace (?).
N2P Press [N2P]key to call another MAX IP10.
During configuration, It functions as previous menu (|?).
PSTN/ SET Press [PSTN] key to Analog phone line call.
During configuration, It is used as [SET] key
REDIAL Press [REDIAL] key to redial the last dialed number.
MEMORY
DIAL Press [MEMORY]key and the memory location number
(1~9) for quick dialing.
SPEED
DIAL Press one of [SPEED DIAL]keys (1~8) for quick dialing.
MUTE Press [MUTE] key to turn-off the microphone.
SPEAKER Press [SPEAKER] key to toggle the speakerphone On/Off.
VOLUME
UP Press [VOLUME UP] key to increase the volume level.
It is also used for selecting menu items during
configuration.

2. IP Phone Mode
The default operation mode of MAX IP10 is IP phone mode (Internet phone mode), and there
are 8 operational features: Making an outbound call, answering an incoming call, redialing,
memory dialing, speed dialing, call hold, volume control, and mute.
?Note: MAX IP10 attempts to confirm the connection with OPAL server periodically, and if it
fails, thephone goes to analog phone mode, where you can make or answer a call via analog
phone line.
?Note: In IP phone mode, when there is a call from analog phone line, it switches to analog
phone mode. After the call is over, it returns to IP phone mode.
?Note: Using [PSTN] key, you can switch between IP phone mode and analog phone mode.
2.1. Making a Call
2.1.1. Making a domestic or international Call in IP phone mode
1) Lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key and listen for the dial tone. You will see LCD screen
like Figure 2-1.

2) Dial the destination phone number. LCD screens the dialed number.

When dialing a number in North America, dial: “1 + area code + number.”
When dialing a number outside North America, dial: “011 + country code + area code +
number.”
3) Press the [#] key after entering the phone number. MAX IP10 attempts to connect the call,
and you will see screen like Figure 2 -3 on the LCD.

4) If the connection attempt is success, you will hear ringback tone. If the connection attempt
fails, you will hear error tone and LCD screens the one offollowing messages corresponding to
the reason for the connection error. (Figure 2-4)

5) When called party answers, you can begin speaking. You will see LCD screen like Figure 2-5.

6) When the call is over, hang up or press [SPEAKER] key. On the LCD, you will see screen like
Figure 2-6.

2.1.2. Making a “Max-to-Max”Call
1) Lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key and listen for the dial tone. You will see LCD screen
like Figure 2-1.
2) Press the [N2P] key, then on the LCD, the digits ‘*72’will appear (Figure 2-7)

3) Dial the Virtual Number of the destination Net2Phone device. LCD screens the dialed

4) Press the [#] key after entering the phone number. MAX IP10 attempts to connect the call,
and you will see screen like Figure 2-9 on the LCD.

5) If the connection attempt is successful, you will hear ringback tone. If the connection
attempt fails, you will hear error tone and LCD will display one ofthe messages
corresponding to the reason for the connection error. (Figure 2-4)
6) When called party answers, you can begin speaking. On the LCD, you will see screen like
Figure 2-5.
7) When the call is over, hang up or press [SPEAKER] key. On the LCD, you will see screen
like Figure 2-6
2.2. Answering an Incoming Call
1) When the phone is ringing, you will see the LCD screen like Figure 2-10.
a) Call from PSTN connection (analog phone call)
b) Call from MAX-to-MAX connection (Net2Phone call)

2) Lift handset or use speakerphone by pressing [SPEAKER] key, then start speaking.
2.3. Redial (Available only when power is ON)
When you want to make a call with the last dialed number, follow these steps:
1) Lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key and listen for the dial tone. You will see the LCD
screen like Figure 2-1.

2) Press [REDIAL] key, then on the LCD, the last dialed number will appear (Figure 2-11)

3) MAX IP10 attempts to connect the call, and you will see screen like Figure 2-3 on the LCD.
4) If the connection attempt is successful, you will hear the ringback tone. If the connection
attempt fails, you will hear the error tone and LCD will displayone of the messages
corresponding to the reason for the connection error. (Figure 2-4)
5) When called party answers, you can begin speaking. You will see screen like Figure 2-5 on
the LCD.
6) When the call is over, hang up or press [SPEAKER] key. On the LCD, you will see screen
like Figure 2-6.
2.4. Memory Dial
2.4.1. Making a Call using Memory Dial
There are 9 memory slots, 1 to 9. When you want to make a call with the phone number that is
stored in one of them, follow these steps:
1) Lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key and listen for the dial tone. On the LCD, you will see
screen like Figure 2-1.
2) Press [MEMORY] key. On the LCD, you will see screen like Figure 2-12.

3) Press a number (1-9) to choose the memory slot that stores the phone number to call, then
the phone number will be appear, like Figure 2-13.

4) MAX IP10 attempts to connect the call.
5) You will hear ringback tone.
6) When called party answers, you can beginspeaking.
7) When the call is finished, hang up or press [SPEAKER] key.

2.4.2. Storing a phone number in a memory slot
1) Press [MEMORY] key. On the LCD, you will see screen like Figure 2-14.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. You can also enter alphabets or symbols by
pressing the number key multiple times. (Refer Table 1 -1) If you make a mistake, use the
[INFO] key to back up and correct the mistake.

3) After entering the phone number, press the [MEMORY] key. On the LCD, you will see
screen like Figure 2-16.

4) Press a dial number (1-9) to choose the memory slot where the phone number is to be
stored. On the LCD, you will see screen like Figure 2-17.

2.5. Speed Dial
2.5.1. Making a Call using speed dial
You can also store phone numbers in speed dial keys as well as memory slots. There are 8
speed dial keys. When you want to make a call to the phone number stored in one of them,
follow these steps:
1) Lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key and listen for the dial tone.
2) Press the speed dial key for the desired phone number, and the phone number stored in
the speed dial key will appear. You will see screen like Figure 2-18 on the LCD.

2.5.2. Mapping a phone number to a speed dial key
1) Press the [MEMORY] key. You will see screen like Figure 2-19 on the LCD.

2.6. Call Hold
When you want to put connected Net2Phone call on hold and receive the incoming call from
analog phone line, follow these steps:
1) Press [PSTN] key. On the LCD, you will see screen like Figure 2-23.

2) To retrieve the call, press [PSTN] key again. Then you will see screen like Figure 2-24 on
the LCD. You are connected back to the Net2Phone call.

2.7. Volume Control
You can control the ring/tone/handset/speaker volumes within each context.
1) Tone volume control
Lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key, and adjust the tone volume using [VOLUME UP] and
[VOLUME DOWN] keys.

3) Handset/Speakerphone volume control
When the call is connected, adjust the handset or speakerphone volume using [VOLUME
UP] and [VOLUME DOWN] keys.

2.8. Mute
When you want to turn-off the microphone on both handset and speakerphone, follow these
steps:
1) Press [MUTE] key. You will see an LCD screen like Figure 2-28.

2) To turn-on the microphone, press [MUTE] key again.(Figure2 -29)

3. Analog Phone Features
MAX IP10 can also operate in analog phone mode. There are only 3 operational features:
Making a call, answering an incoming call, and redialing.
?Note: Redialing feature is available only with power on.
?Note: Even if power is down, the phone can still operate, but nothing is displayed on LCD.
?Note: If [PSTN] key is pressed twice, it attempts switching to IP phone mode by connecting to
Internet, but if it fails, the phone will remain in analog phone mode.
3.1. Making an analog phone Call
1) Press the [PSTN] key for switching to the analog phone mode. On the LCD, you will see
screen like Figure 3-1. (1234567 : Analog phone number assigned to the phone.)

3.2. Answering an incoming call from analog phone line
If the phone is ringing, then lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key to start speaking.
3.3. Redialing
When you want to make an analog phone call with the last dialed number in analog phone
mode, follow these steps:
1) Press the [PSTN] key to switch to analog phone mode. You will see screen like Figure 3 -1 on
the LCD.
2) Lift handset or press [SPEAKER] key.
3) Press the [REDIAL] key to dial the last dialed number.
4) MAX IP10 attempts to connect the call through the analog phone line.
5) You will hear ringback tone.
6) When called party answers, you can begin speaking.
7) When the call is over, hang up.
*** Note: Last dialed number is erased when the analog phone cable is disconnected.
3.4. Hook-Flash / Ring Volume / Ring Type
When you want to send hook-flash signal while holding the handset, press the [MEMORY] key.
When the phone is ringing, you can adjust the ring volume using [5] ~ [8] keys. [5] is for the
lowest volume and [8] is for the highest volume.
*** Ring volume is set to default when the analog phone line is disconnected.
When the phone is ringing, you can change the ring melody type using [1] ~ [4] keys.
*** Ring melody type is set to default when the analog phone line is disconnected.

4. MAX IP10 Configuration
Before attempting to make a outbound call, or to answer an incoming call, MAX IP10 must be
configured with several parameters.
?Note: There are 22 parameter fields you need to configure. Press the [MENU] key to access
each field one after another. You can modify the field using number keys and confirm the
change using the [SET] key.
?Note: In case you finish modifying the account parameters (account number and pin number)
or network parameters (IP address), the phone will automatically rebootusing the changed
parameters.
?Note: Besides the operation parameter fields, there are memory dial configuration menu and
speed dial configuration menu where you can store the phone numbers used in memory dialing
and speed dialing.
To enter the config uration menu, you must type in the menu access code.Press the [MENU]
key. You will see LCD screen like Figure 4-1. Type in the menu access code and '#' key. The
default access code is '123'. The menu access code can be modified via web-browser.

4.1. View/Change Account Number
1) Press the [MENU] key once. You will see an LCD screen like Figure 4-2.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. If you make a mistake, use [INFO] keyas

3) After entering all the digits of the account number, press the [SET] key to confirm the change.

4.2. View/Change PIN Number
1) After entering the account number, press the [MENU] key. You will see Figure 4-3 on the
LCD.Theasterisk ‘*’is displayed as many as the digits of PIN for security.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. If you make a mistake, use [INFO] key as
‘backspace’key and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the pin, press the [SET] key to confirm the change.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field or the [N2P] key to go to the previous field.
4.3. View/Change Analog Telephone Number (PSTN phone number)
When MAX IP10 is in the analog phone mode, the analog phone number is displayed as user’s
PSTN phone number. User can enter this telephone number for reference.
1) After entering the PIN, press the [MENU] key. You will seeLCD screen like Figure 4-4.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. If you make a mistake, use [INFO] key as
‘backspace’key and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the telephone number, press the [SET] key to confirm the
change.
3) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field or the [N2P] key to go to the previous field.
4.4. View/Change Network Mode
1) After entering the telephone number, press the [MENU] key. You will see LCD screen like
Figure 4-5.
?? If the network mode is‘DHCP*’, and there is a DHCP server on the network that the
MAX IP10 is connected to, it will automatically assign the IP Address, Subnet Mask and
DefaultGateway, andDNS address.

?? If the network mode is‘PPPOE*’, and there is a PPPoE server on the network that the
MAX IP10 is connected to, it will automatically assign the IP Address, Subnet Mask and
DefaultGateway, andDNS address.
?? If the network mode is‘STATIC*’, then you have to assign the IP Address, Subnet Mask
and Default Gateway, and DNS address by yourself.

2) Press [VOLUME UP]/[VOLUME DOWN] to change the configurations. If it is different from the
current setting, ‘*’will disappear
3) Press the [SET] key to confirm the change. The asterisk ‘*’will appear when the change is
applied.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field or the [N2P] key to go to the previous field.
?The network parameters like IP address, Subnet, Gateway, Primary DNS, and Secondary
DNS can be modified only if network mode is ‘STATIC’.
4.5. View/Change IP Address
1) After entering the network mode, press the [MENU] key. You will see LCD screen like Figure
4-6.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. Pause for 1 second between digits when
entering. The period ‘.’can be entered by pressing [0] key twice quickly. If you make a
mistake, use [INFO] key as ‘backspace’key and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the IP address, press the [SET] key to confirm the change.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field.

4.7. View/Change Gateway Address
1) After entering the subnet mask, press the [MENU] key. You will see LCD screen like Figure
4-8.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. Pause for 1 second between digits when
entering. The period ‘.’can be entered by pressing [0] key twice. If you make a mistake, use
[INFO] key as ‘backspace’key and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the gateway address, press the [SET] key to confirm the
change.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field.
4.8. View/Change Primary DNS
1) After entering the gateway address, press the [MENU] key. You will see an LCD screen like
Figure 4-9.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. Pause for 1 second between digits when
entering. The period ‘.’can be entered by pressing [0] key twice. If you make a mistake, use
[INFO] key as ‘backspace’key and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the primary DNS, press the [SET] key to confirm the change.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field.

4.9. View/Change Secondary DNS
1) After entering the primary DNS, press the [MENU] key. You will see LCD screen like Figure
4-10.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. Pause for 1 second between digits when
entering. The period ‘.’can be entered by pressing [0] key twice. If you make a mistake, use
[INFO] key as ‘backspace’key and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the secondary DNS, press the [SET] key to confirm the change.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field.
4.10.View/Change Doorman1 IP Address
1) Press the [MENU] key until menu number 10 appears. You will see LCD screen like Figure 4-
11.

2) Press [0]~[9] number keys to enter the digits. You can also enter alphabets or symbols by
pressing the number key multiple times. (Refer Table 1-1) Pause for 1 second between digits
when entering.The period ‘.’can be entered by pressing [0] key twice. If you make a
mistake, use the [INFO] key to back up and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the Doorman1 IP address, press the [SET] key to confirm the
change.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field.
?Doorman IP address edit mode supports left (‘*’) and right (‘#’) arrow key to input character
strings that is longer than LCD size.
4.11.View/Change Doorman1 Port
1) After entering the Doorman1 IP address, press the [MENU] key. You will see LCD screen

back up and correct the mistake.
3) After entering all the digits of the UDP start port number, press the [SET] key to confirm the
change.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field.
4.16.View/Change Packet Mode
1) Press the [MENU] key until the menu number 16 appears. You will see LCD screen like
Figure 4-17.

2) Press [VOLUME UP]/[VOLUME DOWN] to change the configurations. If it is different from the
current setting, ‘*’will disappear

3) Press the [SET] key to confirm the change. The asterisk ‘*’will appear when the change is
applied.
4) Press the [MENU] key to go to the next field or the [N2P] key to go to the previous field.
4.17.LCD Gain Control
When you want to change LCD gain (contrast), follow these steps:
1) Press the [MENU] key untilthe title “17. LCD Gain”is displayed. You will see LCD screen like
Figure 4-18.

2) Use [VOLUME UP] and [VOLUME DOWN] keys to adjust LDC gain.
3) Press the [MENU] key until the IP Phone displays the “MAX IP10”screen.
4.18.Remote Volume Control
When you want to control Remote Volume (Loudness at the other side of the call), follow these
steps:
1) Press the [MENU] key untilthe title “18. Remote Volume ”is displayed. You will see LCD
screen like Figure 4-19.

2) Use [VOLUME UP] and [VOLUME DOWN] keys to adjust remote volume.
5) Press the [MENU] key until the IP Phone displays the “MAX IP10”screen.
4.19.Memory Dial Configuration
You can store phone numbers into memory slots and dial directly from the memory directory.
When you want to program memory dial, follow these steps:
1) Press the [MENU] key untilthe title “19. Memory Dial”is displayed. You will see LCD screen
like Figure 4-20.
