Yap Jack Plus Interface
The Yap Jack Plus interface consists of an LCD screen and five buttons.
LCD display @ button: Press to
initiate a call

time left and call credit

1. Connect the Yap Jack Plus into
your telephone jack.
• Plug one end of the telephone
cable (RJ-11) into the Line port
on the back of the device.
• Plug the other end into a work-
ing telephone wall jack.
2. Connect your telephone into the
Yap Jack Plus.
• Plug the RJ-11 cable from your
telephone into the Phone port
on the back of the Yap Jack Plus.
3. Power-up the Yap Jack Plus.
• Plug the power supply into an AC outlet and plug its power cable into
the DC IN port on the rear of the device.The device will power-up
immediately.You will hear three beeps, the lights will glow, and the
display will read
Initializing Please Wait...
and then
Yap Jack Plus * Ready *
The first time that you power-up your Yap Jack Plus, it will check for all
necessary ISP and Yap Jack Plus account information. If it doesn’t find this
information, you will be prompted to enter each field one at a time.
Please have all account information ready and be prepared to enter your:
◗ISP access telephone number
◗ISP user name (only if needed by the ISP)
◗ISP password (only if needed by the ISP)
◗Yap Jack Plus account number
◗Yap Jack Plus personal identification number (PIN)
The following instructions assume that account information has not
been entered.
To enter your account information:
1. When ISP Phone Num. is displayed on the LCD, select it by press-
ing the OK button.
The ISP Phone Num. entry field displays.
2. Pick up your telephone handset, and then using the keypad on your
handset, enter your ISP’s access telephone number.
3. To save your entry, press the OK button.
4. If your ISP does not require a user name and password, then press the
Menu/Exit button and go to step 10.
The device will now check forYap Jack Plus account information. When
it doesn’t find it, it will display Account Number.
OR
If your ISP requires a user name, then select ISP User Name by
pressing the down ( ) button and then pressing OK.
The ISP User Name entry field displays.
5. Using your telephone keypad, enter the user name for your ISP
account. (Refer to page 5 for the telephone keypad map.)
6. To save your entry, press the OK button.
7. If your ISP requires a password, then select ISP Pass ord by
pressing the down ( ) button and then pressing OK.
The Password entry field displays.
8. Using your telephone keypad, enter your password.
9. To save your entry, press the OK button.
Yap Jack PlusTM Quick Start Guide
Welcome
The Yap Jack Plus is a dial-up voice over IP device that allows you to make
inexpensive calls over the Internet using your own telephone. To use the
device, all you need is a dial-up account with a local Internet service
provider (ISP), aYap Jack Plus account, an analog telephone and local tele-
phone service.
The instructions in this Quick Start Guide will help you to connect and con-
figure your device. For more detailed instructions on setting up or using
the Yap Jack Plus, refer to the Yap Jack Plus User’s Guide.
System Requirements
• Any conventional analog telephone
• Access to a dial-up ISP that is PPP compatible
• A telephone line wall jack and local telephone company service
IMPORTANT: If your device does not say Ready, then you must configure it
with the appropriate account information (see pages 2 - 3).

10. Exit out of the ISP menu by pressing the Menu/Exit button.
The device will now check forYap Jack Plus account information. When
it doesn’t find it, it will display Invalid Account and Account Number.
Note: If your account information has already been entered for you,
then you are finished with the configuration process.You can jump to
step 17.
11. Select Account Number by pressing the OK button.
The Account Number entry field displays.
12. Using your telephone keypad, enter your Yap Jack Plus account number.
13.To save your entry, press the OK button.
14. Now select PIN by pressing the down ( ) button and then
pressing OK.
The PIN entry field displays.
15. Using your telephone keypad, enter the PIN associated with your
account number.
16.To save your entry, press the OK button.
17. Press the Menu/Exit button to return to the main menu and hang up
your telephone handset.
Yap Jack Plus * Ready * displays on the LCD.
3. When Your Email is displayed, select it by pressing the OK
button. The Your Email entry field displays.
4. Using your telephone keypad, enter your email address. (Re er to page 5
or the telephone keypad map.)
5. To save your entry, press the OK button.
To select your telephone-dialing mode:
6. I your telephone-dialing mode is To n e, then skip to step 9.
OR
I your telephone-dialing mode is Pulse, then you must change the de ault
setting (Tone). Press the down ( ) button twice until you see
Dialing Mode on the LCD, and then select it by pressing the
OK button. The Dialing Mode entry field displays.
7. Select Pulse by pressing the down ( ) button.
8. To save your entry, press the OK button.
To disable call waiting:
9. I you don’t have the call waiting eature set up on your telephone line, then
you can skip to step 16.
OR
10. I you do have call waiting set up, then you must con igure your Yap Jack
Plus to block it every time you place a call to your ISP. Otherwise, i a call
comes in on that line, your Yap Jack Plus call will disconnect. To do this,
press the down ( ) until you see Call Waiting on the LCD, and then
select it by pressing the OK button.The Call Waiting entry field displays.
11. Select In Use by pressing the down ( ) button.
12. To save your entry, press the OK button.
13. Now, you have to enter the block code to disable call waiting. Press the
down ( ) once until you see C-W Block Code on the LCD, and
then select it by pressing the OK button.
The C-W Block Code entry field displays.
14. Using your telephone keypad, enter the code to block the call waiting ea-
ture. I you don’t know the code, contact your local telephone company.
15. To save your entry, press the OK button.
16. All necessary settings are now complete
and you are ready to place your irst call.
Press the Menu/Exit button to return to
the main menu and hang up your tele-
phone handset.

the LCD.
Checking Extended Configuration Information
Before placing your first call, please enter or check the following informa-
tion located in the Extended Configuration menu:
• Your email address—enables you to receive important
information regarding free firmware upgrades, user tips, and bug
notices.
• Dialing mode—enables you to select your telephone-dialing mode—
tone or pulse.
• Call waiting—enables you to block the call waiting feature if you have
that set up with your local telephone company.
To enter your contact email address:
1. When Yap Jack Plus * Ready * is displayed on the LCD,
press the Menu/Exit button.
2. Press the down ( ) button twice until you see Extended Config
on
the LCD, and then select it by pressing the OK button.

Once you have configured your device with the appropriate account infor-
mation, you can place a call.
1. Pick up your telephone handset and listen for a dial tone.
2. Press the @button on your Yap Jack Plus.
3. Using your telephone keypad, dial the number of the person you want
to call.
• For all domestic calls within the U.S., dial 1 + area code + 7-digit number.
• If you are calling from outside the U.S. to the U.S., dial 1 + area code +
7-digit number.
• If you are calling from outside the U.S., dial 011 + country code + city
code + telephone number.
After a few seconds, yourYap Jack Plus will place the call through your
ISP. This process will take some time depending on how long it takes to
reach and connect to your ISP.
Note: You can check the status of your call by watching the LCD display.
And, you will hear three beeps when the call has been connected to the ISP,
and then three beeps when connected to the party you are trying to reach.
4. When you have finished with your call, simply hang up your telephone
handset.
5. To place another call, simply pick up your telephone handset and repeat
the steps above.

Account Configuration--enables you to enter the
following Yap Jack Plus account information into
the device:
- Account Number
- Personal Identification Number
ISP Configuration--enables you to enter the
following dial-up information for the ISP that you’ll
be using to place calls:
- Access Telephone Number
- User Name
- Password
- ISP Type
Accept Call--enables you to set up the device to
be able to accept an incoming call.
Connect Options--enables you to set up the
device to either stay connected to your ISP or
disconnect after each outgoing call is made.
Extended Configuration--enables you to enter
personal information, select device settings, or
start certain features:
Information--enables you to view the following
types of information:
- Firmware Version Number
- Hardware Serial Number
Language--enables you to change the LCD and
voice prompts to French or Spanish.
