Magnetic Mount Mobile CB Antenna
The Nexxtech Magnetic Mount Mobile CB Antenna mounts
securely to any flat magnetic metal surface. The magnetic base
stays in place at normal highway speeds. Your antenna can
handle a maximum power output of 25 watts.
The antenna was designed for use on all 40-channel CBs or
with a 30’ (10 m) amateur radio transceiver. You can adjust the
stainless steel whip for the lowest standing wave ratio (SWR) and
maximum RF signal radiation.

INSTALLATION
Installing the bracket
1. Choose a clean, flat magnetic metal surface for your antenna
location.
Caution: Do not mount your antenna on a vinyl-covered
surface.
2. Route the coaxial cable from the magnet/cable assembly (3)
to your CB. Be sure that the cable does not get pinched in
doors or windows.
Note: In some installations, the distance from your antenna
to your CB might be greater than the length of the supplied
coaxial cable. Your local electronics store has a selection of
cable and connectors.
3. Connect the antenna cable plug to your CB/Ham Transceiver.
4. Securely screw the whip adapter (2) to the magnet/cable
assembly (3).
5. Insert the whip assembly (1) into the whip adapter (2) and
tighten the set screw (4) with the supplied Allen wrench (5).
Note: Occasionally remove the magnetic base and clean
the contact surfaces with fresh water and detergent.
Condensation trapped between the magnetic base and
mounting surface might discolor the vehicle’s finish if the base
is left in one position for too long.
TUNING THE ANTENNA FOR CB
The antenna was designed for full 40-channel operation. To
ensure that the antenna works with a minimum SWR on all
channels on all types of vehicles, we have allowed extra whip
length for proper tuning.
You need an SWR meter, available at your local electronics store,
to properly tune your CB/Ham System.
1. Connect the SWR meter between the CB and the coaxial
antenna cable, as described in the meter’s instructions.
2. Measure the SWR on your CB’s lowest and highest channels.
If the SWR reading on the lowest channel is higher than the
value in the chart, lengthen the antenna by loosening the set
screw (using the supplied Allen wrench) and pulling the whip
out of the base 1/8 inch (3 mm), then tightening the screw
again.
If the SWR reading on the highest channel is higher than the
value in the chart, shorten the antenna by loosening the set
screw (using the supplied Allen wrench), removing the whip

from the coil, and cutting 1/8 inch (3 mm) from the whip’s
lower end. Replace the whip and tighten the screw.
Note: You can use large wire cutters or a hacksaw to cut the
whip. Or, you can use a file to make a small groove around
the whip, then break off the length you need to remove.
3. Measure the SWR again. Repeat the adjustment and the
SWR measurement, as necessary, until the SWR readings
are nearly equal. Cut only 1/8 inch (3 mm) at a time and
measure the SWR after each adjustment.
TUNING FOR THE 30’ (10 m) HAM BAND
You can tune your antenna to operate on part of the 30’ (10 m)
band, using a 30’ (10 m) band Amateur Radio transceiver. Your
antenna’s bandwidth is 1000 kHz (1.0 MHz), and it can handle up
to 25 watts. Use the chart to determine the length to which you
need to cut the whip for a specific center frequency.
1. Determine the center frequency of the portion of the 30’ (10
m) band you want to operate on. For example, if you want to
operate from 28.1 MHz to 29.1 MHz, the center frequency is
28.6 MHz.
2. Cut the whip to the length indicated for that frequency. For
example, the length is about 47 7/8 inches (121.6 cm) for
28.6 MHz.
3. Connect an SWR meter between your antenna and the
transceiver.
4. Measure your system’s SWR on the center frequency.
5. Use the supplied Allen wrench to loosen the set screw and
pull the whip out about 1/8 inch (3 mm).
6. Measure your system’s SWR again.
If the SWR increased, return your antenna to its previous
position. If the whip is fully inserted, remove it from the base
and cut off 1/8 inch (3 mm).
If the SWR decreased, pull the whip out about another 1/8
inch (3 mm).
7. Measure the SWR again. Repeat the adjustment and the
SWR measurement, as necessary, until the SWR readings
are nearly equal. Cut only 1/8 inch (3 mm) at a time and
measure the SWR after each adjustment.
