Thank you for purchasing the Nikon product.
This manual is written for the users of the Nikon Simple Polarizing Attachment for ECLIPSE i series. To
ensure correct usage, read this manual together with the instruction manual supplied with the microscope.
When retardation measurement or precise polarizing microscopy is necessary, use the polarizing microscope
specifically designed for that purpose.
1 Assemble and adjust the microscope.
Refer to the instruction manual supplied with the microscope.
2 Attach the C-ISA intermediate tube with simple analyzer.
Loosen the eyepiece tube clamp screw, and remove the eyepiece tube from the microscope body.
Place the intermediate tube on the microscope body in the direction that the analyzer IN/OUT knob is
located on the right side. Fix it with the eyepiece tube clamp screw.
Place the eyepiece tube on the intermediate tube and fix it by tightening the clamp screw of the
intermediate tube with the hexagonal driver supplied with the microscope.
3 Attach the C-SP simple polarizer and, at the same time, adjust the orientation directions
of the polarizer and the analyzer so that they are orthogonal.
1) Remove the specimen from the optical path.
2) Place the analyzer in the optical path (push in the IN/OUT knob).
3) Place the polarizer over the field lens at the base of the microscope.
Roughly position the orientation mark of the polarizer at front of the microscope.
Leave the clamp screw loose.
•When the image is seen through the CCD camera on ECLIPSE 50i
Because the CCD image contrast is lowered by the infrared rays of the light source, place the
infrared cut filter (IR-cut filter for C-SP: sold separately) on the field lens of the microscope before
attaching the polarizer.
4) Fully open the aperture diaphragm.
5) Remove an eyepiece from the microscope and look inside the eyepiece sleeve to find black
stripes.
Rotating the polarizer will change the stripes.
When the stripes change to a dark cross*, fix the polarizer at that position by
tightening the polarizer clamp screw.
* A dark cross is seen when the analyzer and the polarizer are in orthogonal orientation.
