Safety
Power supply
Always disconnect the power supply for the unit if an error occurs that cannot be rectified via the control
panel.
If an error occurs on electrically conductive parts of the unit, always contact a certified electrician to
rectify the error.
Always disconnect the power supply to the unit before opening the unit doors, for instance for
installation, inspection, cleaning and filter replacement.
Pressure-bearing equipment
Exercise great caution when handling and disposing of heat pipes and refrigeration circuit elements.
These have a pressure of up to 50 bar and can cause personal injury if breaking.
Disposal
Heat pump
When disposing of units with heat pumps, it is important to contact the local authorities
for information about the correct procedure. The heat pump contains the refrigerant 407c,
which is harmful to the environment if not handled correctly.

If you have questions regarding installation of the unit after having read the instructions, contact your nearest
dealer of Nilan products. You can find Nilan dealers on www.nilan.dk/en-gb/frontpage/download/dealers.
The purpose of these instructions is to advise the installer on correct installation and maintenance of the unit.
In order to avoid discoloration of the sheet metal parts, remove the protective foil packaging from the
unit immediately on delivery. Discoloration is caused by a chemical reaction triggered by moisture
between the foil and the galvanized sheets. Then consider covering the unit with tarpaulin to protect it.
The unit is delivered fully tested and ready for operation.

Scope of instructions
These instructions apply to VPM ventilation and heat recovery units, henceforth referred to as units. Information
on accessories that are included and other additional equipment can be found in the Accessories section.

Data plate
The data plate of the unit holds the following information:
1. type of unit
2. unit order no.
3. unit serial no.
Note: When contacting Nilan A/S with questions about the product, please be ready to quote unit type, order no.
and serial no. This information will enable the service department to identify relevant information about your
unit. The service department can then provide you with information and answers about the unit, its parts and
the software used.
Warnings and regulations
Inappropriate use
The unit must not be used for extraction of shavings or shreds or where there is a risk of explosive
gases.
No duct connection
If one or more of the spouts are not connected to a duct, a protective net with a mesh width of max. 20
mm must be fitted on this/these.
Opening the unit
Do not open the service doors until the safety switch has been switched off and the fans have stopped.
Unit in standby
When a ventilation unit is not in operation, humidity from the rooms may penetrate into the ducts and
create condensation. Condensate water may leak from the valves and damage furniture and floors.
Condensation may also form inside the unit, which can damage its electronics and fans.

Unit type
Product description
The VPM 600-2200 series is a ventilation and heat recovery unit with cooling and heating functions developed
especially for commercial constructions with an air exchange requirement of up to 22,000 m³ per hour.
A VPM unit removes the "used", humid air from the building and supplies new, "fresh" air in turn. The energy in
the extract air is recovered and transferred to the supply air via a unique combination of active (heat pump) and
passive (heat pipe) heat recovery. The high efficiency of the VPM series is due to this unique design, which
combines the best of two technologies. This improves efficiency so much that it comes close to 100%. This
means that the need for heat supply during the cold winter months is reduced to a minimum, and significant
savings are achieved on the building's energy consumption and a reduction in CO2 emissions. During summer
the process is reversed and the supply air is cooled.
It is possible to add a heat exchanger to the refrigeration circuit. It enables utilisation of excess energy or waste
energy created by the cooling process, for example, for heating domestic hot water.
The unit is modularly designed according to individual wishes and needs, making it an extremely easy-to-install
plug-and-play solution. The unit can be controlled and monitored via our CTS602i or CTS6000 control system.

Accessories
CO2 sensor
With a CO2 -sensor installed externally or as an integral part of the unit, the fan speed can
be pre-programmed to run at higher levels when the extract air has highCO2. CO2level can
be programmed.
In the control system you can choose between humidity control and CO2sensor.
Electrical after-heating element
The electrical after-heating element, which is controlled in a binary fashion, is ready for
installation internally in the fan unit VPM.
Filter monitoring - Pressure transmitter
This displays the gradual pressure drop across the filter in the CTS control system. An
alarm indicates when the filter needs replacing at the final pressure drop that has been
preset in the CTS control system.
Humidity control
A humidity control system can be added to the unit to control ventilation according to the
relative air humidity in the extract air. This can be installed externally or be built into the
unit.
In the control system you can choose between humidity control and CO2 sensor.
Handle with cylinder lock
If you want to be able to lock the service doors to the unit, you can purchase a handle with
a cylinder lock and key.
Pressure control
The motor for the extract and/or supply air fan can be controlled by one or two pressure
transmitters. These should be mounted in the extract and/or supply air duct.
The standard version is delivered with pressure transmitters and a 5 m cable, including
power supply.

Water after-heating element
With a water after-heating element you can increase the supply air temperature to the
desired level. The unit can be delivered with an integral water after-heating element. It
comes complete with the necessary sensors.
The water after-heating element is controlled by a Danfoss Actuator, which comes
connected to the unit.
The unit can also control external after-heating elements.
Water trap with ball
To ensure that condensate water can drain freely, a water trap must be installed.
You should check regularly that there is water in the trap. The water trap may dry out
during late spring, summer and autumn, when no condensation is formed. If the water
trap dries out, air will be sucked into the unit and condensate water will not be able to
drain. This will cause water damage.
Nilan’s water trap contains a ball that ensures that no air is sucked into the unit and that
condensate water can drain freely.
Heating cable - external
Nilan offers an external heating cable for frost protection of the condensate drain of 3m
and 5m respectively. Used in cases where Nilan water trap with ball is mounted and where
it is not possible to use the integrated heating cable. The 10W heating cable is equipped
with a thermostat, so it only heats when frost protection is needed.
Heating cable - integrated
You can order a 3 m long self-regulating heating cable as frost protection of the condensate
drain. The heating cable is built into the unit from the factory, and approx. 1.5 meters of
heating cable out of the drain plug, which must be routed internally in the condensate
drain.
It is up to the installer to ensure that the condensation water can run frost-free for
drainage.
Vibration absorbers
Sylomer vibration absorbers to place under the unit ensure that the vibrations of the unit
against the underlying surface are damped effectively.
VTZ Compressor
VTZ is a frequency controlled compressor with stable and constant regulation. The
compressor regulates the operation according to the cooling or heating requirement. It will
therefore reach a high COP value, which means low energy consumption.
The VTZ compressor can be used with the CTS602i and the CTS6000 automations.

Installation
Handling
Unpacking
The unit is delivered wrapped in foil. To protect the galvanized sheet metal parts of the unit from discoloration,
immediately remove the foil. Then consider covering the unit with tarpaulin until installation.
Transportation after unpacking
When the unit is to be positioned and installed, transportation can be carried out in two ways:
• Lifting the unit from underneath with a pallet jack. Units with pre-assembled foundation can be lifted directly
with pallet lifts Units without a pre-mounted base must be placed on a pallet each before you lift them with a
pallet jack.
• Lift with transport hooks in pre-assembled lifting eyes. The VPM 600-3200 is equipped with lifting eyes. If
chains or straps are used directly on the brackets, the mutual angle must be greater than 60 °. If this is
impossible due to lack of space, a lifting beam or similar must be used.

Visible damages having occurred during transit must be reported immediately. Hidden damages having
occurred during transit must be reported within 7 days. When reporting damages that have occurred in
transit, photo documentation is required.

Installation
Positioning the unit
Good clearance in front of the unit is recommended (see table below). When positioning the unit, you
should always consider future service and maintenance. It must be easy to replace filters and it must be
possible to replace fans or other components. There must be enough space to clean the unit easily.
There must therefore be space for installing water traps in the condensate drains.

The unit must be level to enable proper drainage from the condensate tray.
The unit produces limited noise and vibrations, but you should still take into account potential vibrations
that can spread from the unit to individual parts of the building. In order to separate the unit from the
underlying surface, it is therefore recommended that you fit vibration absorbers under the unit. There
should be approx. 10 mm distance to other building components and to permanent fixtures.

Positioning and installation of unit
The arrangement is shown for a unit with a discharge module. If the supplied unit does not have this, step 10 is
ignored.

straps are used directly on the brackets, the
mutual angle must be greater than 60 °. If
this is impossible due to lack of space, a
lifting beam or similar must be used.
See the section "Transport after unpacking"
for proper handling.
NB. The VPM600 is delivered on a firm base.
Step 5:
The enclosed sealing tape is pasted on both end faces by pulling off
the protective paper.
If the unit is equipped with a discharge module, seal seals must also
be inserted between the discharge module and the filter / fan
sections.
