INTRODUCTION
The SPK-1 is a two channel, speaker level A-B switch. The SPK-1 can be used to switch amplifiers,
speakers, surround sound systems, or any application where a voltage-activated speaker-level switch
is preferred.
Applying 12 volts DC to the control input connector activates the switch. A control output connector
is also provided. The control output is internally connected in parallel with the SPK-1’s control input.
The control output can be used to control additional SPK-1’s by “daisy-chaining” the control output of
one unit to the control input of the next. Connecting two SPK-1’s together enables you to switch four
channels of speaker-level signals and connecting three units together lets you switch six channels,
and so on. A maximum of 6 SPK-1’s may be connected together in this manner.
The control output can also be used to connect other Niles switching devices such as the AC-3
Voltage Activated AC outlet and the AVS-2 Voltage Activated Line-Level Switch.
The SPK-1 is designed primarily to be used as an expansion unit for the Niles SAS-1 Signal Activated
A-B Switch. The SAS-1 is an automatic A-B switch designed to replace manually operated A-B
switches. It automatically switches from A to B when a signal is present at input B. The SAS-1 can
switch any combination of line-level audio, speaker-level audio and composite video signals. Using its
control out connector, the SAS-1 can be used as the “master” unit which activates other “slave” units
such as the SPK-1, AVS-2 and AC-3. Please refer to www.nilesaudio.com for more information on

• SPK-1 is activated by 12Volt DC signal (100mA minimum)
• Requires 12Volt DC adapter to trigger SPK-1 from the switched outlet of a receiver or
preamp, can also be triggered by the 12Volt output of a Niles APC-2, AC-3, AVS-2,
SAS-1 or RFS-1
• 12Volt control output for activating other Niles devices such as an APC-2, AC-3, AVS-2,
SAS-1 or RFS-1
• Note: This unit is not a Signal-Sensing Switcher; if signal-sensing is required use the
SAS-1 or ABS-1
• Premium nickel-plated five-way binding post connectors
• Two-year limited warranty

CONNECTIONS
Refer to figures 1 through 3 on the following pages.
Strip approximately 1/4" – NO MORE – of insulation from each wire. Twist the free ends of each
wire tightly together and insert them into the appropriate holes in the binding posts. Secure by
turning the binding posts until they are hand-tight. BE SURE TO OBSERVE PROPER PHASING –
connect the positive terminals of the amplifier(s) and speakers to the positive terminals of the
SPK-1 and connect the negative terminals of the amplifier(s) and speakers to the negative
terminals of the SPK-1.
Connect the 12 volt DC source which will activate the SPK-1 to the “CONTROL IN” connector. An
optional DC adapter is available from Niles Audio. BE SURE TO OBSERVE PROPER POLARITY WHEN
MAKING THIS CONNECTION.
Any other switching devices to be activated at the same time may be “daisy chained” together by
using the “CONTROL OUT” connector.

NILES AUDIO CORPORATION (“NILES”) WARRANTS ITS ACTIVE PRODUCTS (THOSE REQUIRING AC OR BATTERY
POWER) TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER TO BE FREE OF MANUFACTURING DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND
WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE.
THIS WARRANTY IS SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS. THE WARRANTY
IS VOID AND INAPPLICABLE IF NILES DEEMS THAT THE PRODUCT HAS BEEN USED OR HANDLED OTHER THAN IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO
DAMAGE CAUSED BY ACCIDENT, MISHANDLING, IMPROPER INSTALLATION, ABUSE, NEGLIGENCE, OR NORMAL
WEAR AND TEAR, OR ANY DEFECT CAUSED BY REPAIR TO THE PRODUCT BY ANYONE OTHER THAN NILES OR AN
AUTHORIZED NILES DEALER.
TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE, TAKE THE UNIT TO THE NEAREST AUTHORIZED NILES DEALER, WHO WILL TEST
THE PRODUCT AND IF NECESSARY, FORWARD IT TO NILES FOR SERVICE. IF THERE ARE NO AUTHORIZED NILES
DEALERS IN YOUR AREA, YOU MUST WRITE TO NILES AND INCLUDE YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER
OF YOUR UNIT, ALONG WITH A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM. A FACTORY RETURN AUTHORIZATION
NUMBER WILL BE SENT TO YOU. DO NOT RETURN ANY UNIT WITHOUT FIRST RECEIVING WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION
AND SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS FROM NILES.
IF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS ARE MET, THE PURCHASER’S SOLE REMEDY SHALL BE TO RETURN THE PRODUCT TO
NILES, IN WHICH CASE NILES WILL REPAIR OR REPLACE, AT ITS SOLE OPTION, THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT WITHOUT
CHARGE FOR PARTS OR LABOR. NILES WILL RETURN A UNIT REPAIRED OR REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY
SHIPPING SAME BY ITS USUAL SHIPPING METHOD FROM THE FACTORY (ONLY) AT ITS EXPENSE WITHIN THE
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THERE ARE NO OTHER WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, EITHER
EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH
RESPECT TO THE PRODUCT.
REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT AS PROVIDED UNDER THIS WARRANTY IS THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY OF THE CONSUMER/
PURCHASER. NILES SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES EXCEPT
