INTRODUCTION
MANUAL PURPOSE AND CONTENTS
The purpose of this Manual is to provide the operator with
all necessary information to use the machine properly in a
safe and autonomous way. It contains information about
technical characteristics, operation, machine storage,
maintenance, spare parts and safety conditions.
Before carrying out any procedure on the machine, the
operators and technicians in charge of the machine
maintenance must read this manual carefully. Contact an
authorised Nilfisk-Alto Service Center in case of doubts
regarding the interpretation of the instructions and for any
further information.
TARGET
This manual is intended for qualified operators and
technicians involved in the machine maintenance.
HOW TO KEEP THIS MANUAL
The User manual must be kept near the machine, inside
an adequate case, far from liquids and other substances
that can cause damage to it.
IDENTIFICATION DATA
The Machine Model and Serial Number are marked on the
plate (1, Fig. U) on the frame and can be read by lifting the
hood (4).
The machine model year is written in the EC statement
and it is also indicated by the first two figures of the
machine serial number.
The petrol engine Serial Numberand Model are marked in
the positions (2 and 3, Fig. U).
This information is useful when ordering machine and
engine spare parts. Use the following table to write down
the machine and the petrol engine identification data for
any further reference.
OTHER REFERENCE MANUALS
– Petrol engine User's Manual (supplied with the
machine) that is to be considered as integral part of
this manual.
– Moreover, the following manuals are available:
• Service manual (that can be consulted at
Nilfisk-Alto Service Centers).
• Spare parts list (supplied with the machine).
SPARE PARTS AND MAINTENANCE
All necessary operating, maintenance and repair
procedures must be carried out by qualified personnel or
by Nilfisk-Alto Service Centers (listed at the end of this
manual). Only original spare parts and accessories must
be used.
Call Nilfisk-Alto for service or to order spare parts and
accessories, specifying the machine model and serial
number.
CHANGES AND IMPROVEMENTS
Nilfisk-Alto constantly improves its products and reserves
the right to make changes and improvements at its
discretion without being obliged to apply such benefits to
the machine that were sold previously. Any change and/or
additionofaccessorymust beapprovedand performedby
Nilfisk-Alto.
SAFETY
The following symbols indicate potentially dangerous
situations. Always read this information carefully and take
all necessary precautions to safeguard people and
property.
No accident prevention program is effective without the
total cooperation of the person responsible for the
machine operation. Most of the accidents that may occur
in a factory, while working or moving around, are caused
by failure to comply with the simplest rules for exercising
prudence. A careful and prudent Operator is the best
guarantee against accidents and is essential for
successful completion of any prevention program.

SYMBOLS
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Specific warnings and cautions used to indicate potential
damage to people and machines are shown below.
DANGER!
– Remove the key from the engine on/off switch before
performing any maintenance/repair procedure.
– This machine must be used by properly trained and
authorised personnel only. Children or disabled
people cannot use this machine.
– Do not wear jewels when working near moving parts.
– Do not work under the lifted machine, if it is not
securely fixed.
– Do not operate the machine near toxic, dangerous,
inflammable and/or explosive powders, liquids or
vapours.
– Be careful: fuel is highly inflammable.
– Do not smoke or bring naked flames in the area
where the machine is refueled or where the fuel is
stored.
– Donot fillthe fueltank beyondthe upperlimit mark(1,
Fig. S).
– After refuelling, check that the filler cap is tightly
closed.
– If any fuel is spilled while refuelling, clean up and
allow the vapours to dissipate before starting the
engine.
– Donot letfuel comeinto contactwithyourskin;donot
breathe fuel vapours. Keep out of reach of children.
– Do not incline the engine more than 20°; excessive
inclinations can provoke fuel leakages.
– Petrol engine exhaust gases contain carbon
monoxide, which is inodorous and colourless but
extremely dangerous. Do not inhale. Do not keep the
engine running in a closed area.
– Do not lay any object on the engine.
– Stop the petrol engine before performing any
operation on it. To avoid any accidental start,
disconnect the ignition spark plug cap.
WARNING!
– Carefully read all maintenance/repair instructions
before performing any maintenance/repair
procedure.
– Take all necessary precautions to prevent hair,
jewellery and loose clothes from being caught by the
machine moving parts.
– Donotleavethe machineunattendedwiththeignition
key in the engine on/off switch and the parking brake
deactivated.
– Do not use the machine on surfaces with a gradient
exceeding that indicated on the machine.
– Do not wash the machine with direct water jets or
corrosive substances. Do not use compressed air to
clean this type of machine.
– Do not use the machine in particularly dusty areas.
– While using this machine take care not to injure other
people.
– The storage temperature must be between 0°C and
+40°C.
– The machine operating temperature must be
between 0°C and +40°C.
– The humidity must be between 30% and 95%.
– Always protect the machine against the sun, rain and
bad weather, both under operation and in inactivity
condition.
– Do not use the machine as a means of transport.
– Donotallow thebrooms tooperatewhilethemachine
is stationary to avoid damaging the floor.
– In case of fire, possibly use a powder fire
extinguisher, not a water one.
– Do not bump into shelves or scaffoldings, particularly
where there is a risk of falling objects.
– Adjust the operation speed to suit the floor conditions.
– Do not tamper with the machine safety guards and
follow the ordinary maintenance instructions
scrupulously.
DANGER!
It indicates a dangerous situation with risk
of death for the Operator.
WARNING!
It indicates a potential risk of injury for
people.
CAUTION!
It indicates a caution or a remark related to
important oruseful functions. Pay attention
to the paragraphs marked by this symbol.
NOTE
Consult the User manual before performing
any procedure.

– Do not remove or modify the plates affixed on the
machine.
– In case of machine malfunctions ensure that these
are not caused by a lack of maintenance. Otherwise,
request assistance from the authorised personnel or
from an authorised Service Center.
– In case of part replacement, order ORIGINAL spare
parts from an authorised Dealer or Retailer.
– To ensure the proper and safe operation of the
machine, have the scheduled maintenance, detailed
in the related chapter of this Manual, performed by
the authorised personnel or an authorised Service
Center.
– The machine must be disposed of properly, because
of the presence of toxic-harmful materials (oils,
plasticmaterials,etc.),whicharesubjecttostandards
that require disposal in special centers (see chapter
“Scrapping”).
– If the machine is used according to the instructions,
thevibrationsdonotcausedangeroussituations.(3.3
m/s2 EN 1033-1995-08).
– Duringthe petrol engineoperation, itssilencer warms
up; do not touch the silencer when it's hot to avoid
burns or fire.
– Running the engine with an insufficient quantity of
petrolcanseriouslydamage theengine.Checktheoil
level when the engine is off and the machine is on an
even surface.
– Never run the petrol engine without air filter, as the
engine could be damaged.
– Technical service operations on petrol engine must
be performed by an authorised Dealer.
Use only original spare parts or equivalent for the petrol
engine. Using spare parts of lower quality can seriously
damage the engine.
UNPACKING
When the machine is delivered, check that the cardboard
packing and the machine were not damaged during
transportation. If the damage is evident, keep the packing
and have it checked by the Parcel Service that delivered
it. Call the Carrier immediately to fill in a damage claim.

OPERATION CAPABILITIES
This sweeper has been designed and built to be used by
aqualifiedoperatortoclean(bysweepingandvacuuming)
smoothand solidfloorsin civilandindustrial environments
and to collect dust and light debris under safe operation
conditions.
CONVENTIONS
Forward, backward, front, rear, left or right are intended
with reference to the operator’s position, that is to say on
the driver’s seat with the hands on the handlebar (1, Fig.
C).

ACCESSORIES/OPTIONS
In addiction to the standard components, the machine can
be equipped with the following accessories/options,
according to the machine specific use:
– main and side brooms with harder or softer bristles
– Antistatic polyester or polyester BIA C dust filter
– front wheel with brake pedal
For further information concerning the optional
accessories, contact Your Retailer.
USE
While reading this Manual, the Operator must pay
particular attention to these symbols.
Do not cover these adhesives for any reason, in case of
damage replace them immediately.
BEFORE START-UP
1. Ensure that the hopper (16, Fig. C) is correctly closed
before starting up the machine.
2. If it is necessary, unscrew the plug and refuel the
machine (26, Fig. C).
STARTING AND STOPPING THE MACHINE
Starting the machine
1. Adjust the handlebar (1, Fig. C) by means of the
knobs (2).
2. Ensure that the side broom (8, Fig. C) is completely
lifted.
3. Place the petrol tap (1, Fig. V) in the ON position
without lifting the hood (5, Fig. C) but introducing the
hand in the compartment (29, Fig. C).
4. Place the air lever (starter) (1, Fig. W) in the close
position (2) without lifting the hood (5, Fig. C) but
introducing the hand in the compartment (29, Fig. C).
5. Turn the on/off key switch (2, Fig. B) in the I position.
6. Pull slowly the engine pull-starter cord (27, Fig. C)
handleuntil acertainresistance isachieved;then pull
strongly and start the engine.
WARNING!
On some points of the machine there are
some adhesives indicating:
– DANGER
– WARNING
– CAUTION
–NOTE
CAUTION!
Do not fill the fuel tank beyond the upper
limit mark (1, Fig. T).
NOTE
Do not use the starter lever if the engine is hot
and if the air temperature is sufficiently high.
CAUTION!
Do not allow the cord (27, Fig. C) handle to
goback with strength but bring it back to its
position to prevent the engine from being
damaged.
CAUTION!
During the pull-starter cord handle (27, Fig.
C) engine start-up, do not pull the selector
lever (3, Fig. C).
WARNING!
The engine cannot be started by means of
the pull-starter cord handle (27, Fig. C)
when the hood (5, Fig. C) is lifted. A safety
system prevents the engine from starting.
NOTE
The engine running, the main broom always
rotates, while the side broom doesn't move if it
is lifted.

7. Afterabout 5seconds theengineruns,disengagethe
airlever(starter) (1,Fig.W)withoutliftingthehood(5,
Fig. C) but introducing the hand in the compartment
(29, Fig. C).
8. Deactivate the pedal brake (25, Fig. C) (optional).
9. Lower the side broom (8, Fig. C), disengage the
handle(10)fromitsretainer(11)andlowerthehandle
(without turning it).
10. Pull the selector lever (3, Fig. C) with care until the
machine starts to move.
11. The speed is proportional to the pressure applied to
the selector lever (3, Fig. C).
Stopping the machine
1. Release the selector lever (3, Fig. C) completely to
stop the machine.
2. To the side broom (8, Fig. C) rotation, lift the handle
(10,Fig. C) (without turningit) and engageitsretainer
(11).
3. To stop the main broom (9, Fig. C) rotation and the
suction valve (24, Fig. U) operation, turn the on/off
key switch (2, Fig. B) in the “0” position.
4. Then, close the petrol tap (1, Fig. V) in its
compartment (29, Fig. C).
MACHINE OPERATION
1. Avoid stopping for a long time with the machine in the
same position and the brooms rotating: this could
create unwanted marks on the floor.
2. To collect light and bulkywaste materials, lift the front
skirt by pulling the lever (31, Fig. C); do not keep
pushing onto the lever for a long time in order not to
reduce the suction capability of the machine).
3. Forthemachine tosweepproperlythedust filtermust
be as clean as possible. To clean the filter while
sweeping, activate the filter-shaker proceeding as
follows:
– Pull the handle (19, Fig. C) outward up to the end
of stroke, then release it: the interior return spring
strikes the dust filter frame and shakes it.
– While working, repeat the operation every 10
minutes on average (depending on the dustiness
of the area to be cleaned).
The hopper (16, Fig. C) should be emptied after each
working period and whenever is full.
EMPTYING THE HOPPER
1. Release the selector lever (3, Fig. C) to stop the
machine.
2. Turn the on/off key switch (2, Fig. B) in the 0 position.
3. Activate the filter-shaker by means of the handle (19,
Fig. C).
4. Disengage the hook (17, Fig. C) by pulling its inferior
end.
5. By means of the handle (18, Fig. C) pull out the
hopper (16) and empty it in the specific container.
6. Take back the hopper to its normal position and
engage the hook (17).
7. Restart the engine.
The machine is ready to start working again.
NOTE
The side broom (8, Fig. C) can be lowered and
lifted also when the engine is running.
NOTE
When the dust filter is obstructed and/or the
hopper is full, the machine cannot collect dust
and debris anymore.
CAUTION!
To avoid damaging the dust filter do not
work on wet grounds.
NOTE
When the hopper is full the machine cannot
collect dust and debris anymore.
CAUTION!
The petrol engine has a warning system to
prevent damages to the engine provoked
by an insufficient quantity of oil in the
carter. Before the carter oil level goes
below the safety limit, the oil warning
system automatically stops the engine.

AFTER USING THE MACHINE
After working, before leaving the machine:
– Activate the filter-shaker by means of the handle (19,
Fig. C).
– Empty the hopper (16, Fig. C) (see instructions in the
previous paragraph).
– lift the side broom by means of the handle (10, Fig. C)
– remove the key (2, Fig. B) from the machine on/off
switch
– ensure that the machine cannot move independently
– activate the optional pedal brake (optional) (25, Fig.
C)
– Close the petrol tap (1, Fig. V) in the compartment
(29, Fig. C).
PUSHING THE MACHINE
The machine can be moved my pushing it both with the
on/off key switch (2, Fig. B) in the 0 and in the I positions.
MACHINE LONG INACTIVITY
If you foresee that the machine will not be used for more
than 30 days, proceed as follows:
1. Check that the machine storage area is dry and
clean.
2. Lift the machine so that the skirts, the main broom
and the wheels do not touch the ground.
3. Treat the petrol engine according to the indications in
the related User Manual.
FIRST PERIOD OF USE
After the first period of use (first 8 hours) it is necessary to
carry out the following operations:
1. Check that the fastening and connecting elements
are correctly tightened. Check that the visible parts
are whole and that there are no leaks.
2. Afterthe first20 hoursof work,or afterthe firstmonth,
replace the petrol engine oil (see instructions in the
related User Manual).
MAINTENANCE
The lifespan of the machine and its maximum operating
safety are ensured by correct and regular maintenance.
The following chart provides the scheduled maintenance.
The intervals shown may vary according to particular
working conditions, which are to be defined by the person
in charge of the maintenance.
All scheduled or extraordinary maintenance operations
must be performed by qualified personnel, or by an
authorised Service Center.
This manual describes only the easier and most common
maintenance procedures.
For other maintenance procedures included in the
Scheduled Maintenance table, see the User's Manual for
the petrol engine and/or refer to the authorised Service
Centers.
WARNING!
Maintenance operations must be carried
out with the machine off (on/off switch key
removed). Moreover, read carefully the
instructions in the Safety chapter.
