Basic operations
Turn the phone on
Press and hold the Power/Wake/Lock button until the
phone vibrates.
Note: When you power on your Obi phone for the first time,
you’ll need to follow the on-screen prompts to set up your device.
You can set up your Obi Worldphone over your carrier’s cellular
network or over a Wi-Fi network.

Press and hold the Power/Wake/Lock button for a few seconds,
then touch Power O on the display screen.
To put the phone in Standby (Sleep) mode
Press and hold the Power/Wake/Lock button until the display
turns o. (This will prevent accidental touches of your multi-
touch display.)
To wake/unlock the phone from Standby (Sleep) mode
Press the Power/Wake/Lock button, then drag the Unlock icon
upwards on the screen to unlock the phone.
Other features of the Power/Wake/Lock button
With the power on, press and hold the Power/Wake/Lock button to:
• reboot the phone
• access airplane mode
• view your profile
• take a screenshot
To adjust the volume
Press the Volume up/down button.

Charge the battery
The battery in your Obi phone will need a full charge before you
can use the device. Plug in the device to charge the battery.
Note: The battery is not removable; attempting to remove it
may void your warranty.
SIM and Micro SD cards
A Micro SIM card or a Nano SIM card is required to use the cellular
network services.
Note: If your SIM card is already installed, you can skip this step.
SIM tray configurations
Your Obi phone has a hybrid SIM card tray that can fit either dual
SIM cards (Micro and Nano) or a Micro SIM and microSD card.
• Slot 1 in the SIM tray can be used with a Micro SIM card.
• Slot 2 can be used with a Nano SIM card.
• Slot 2 can be used with a microSD card instead of a Nano SIM
card. You can use the microSD card to store extra photos,
videos, and music.
Install SIM cards and microSD cards
How to insert a Micro SIM card or a Nano SIM card:
1. Use the eject tool provided in the packaging to remove the
SIM card tray from the phone (as shown in the illustration).
Push the eject tool all the way into the hole until the SIM tray
ejects, and then pull the tray out.
2. Put the SIM card into the slots with the gold contacts facing
down and the cut-o corner facing out (as illustrated above).
3. Insert the tray back into the phone.

Disable a SIM card
If you are only using one SIM card, you may want to disable
the other SIM card port.
• Go to: Settings > SIM cards > SIM 1/SIM 2.
Set up lock screen/security options
You can set your screen to unlock with a PIN number, password,
or an on-screen pattern. Or, if you choose not to have additional
unlock security, select “None.”
Note: If you set up security options, the steps to unlock your
phone will be dierent from those described above in “To wake/
unlock the phone from Standby (Sleep) mode.”
1. In the main menu, touch: Settings > Security > Screen Lock
2. Touch Set Up Screen Lock.
3. Choose the type of screen locking option desired.

The Multi-touch Display Screen
Your Obi Worldphone features a multi-touch display which
provides a faster and more intuitive way to navigate through
lists and menus. The controls on the multi-touch display change
dynamically, depending on the task you are performing:
Selection: To select an icon on the screen, touch the icon with
your fingertip.
• Some features require you to touch and hold the icon to select.
• Some features require you to touch and swipe the icon to the
left or right.
Zoom in or out: To zoom in/out on a picture when viewed in
full screen, web page, or map:
• To zoom out: Place two fingers on the screen at once and
pinch them together.
• To zoom in: Place two fingers on the screen at once and
spread them apart.
The Home screen
The Home screen is your starting point to access all the features
on your phone.
• Customize the Home screen by adding applications, shortcuts,
widgets, or by changing the wallpaper.
Note: Apps and services that send or receive data over a
cellular network may incur additional fees. Contact your carrier
for information about your Obi service plan and fees.
Touch and hold an empty
spot to change wallpaper.
Swipe left or right to change
the desktop screen. You can
also add or delete screen panels.
Touch an icon to launch the
corresponding application.
Touch and hold to move or
remove an icon or a widget.

Menu Launcher
Menu Launcher gives you access to applications, widgets,
wallpapers and other customizations.
1. Touch the Menu Launcher at the bottom of the screen to
open the main menu and access all the applications installed
on your device.
2. Touch an application to open and launch it.
3. Swipe the Menu Launcher left or right to bring more icons
into view.
As soon as you install a new application, it will appear here.
Applications
1. Press to open the Home screen.
2. Touch the Menu Launcher to open the Main Menu.
3. To add an application shortcut to the desktop screen:
• Press and hold the shortcut until the screen flashes and the
Home screen appears.
• Drag the application to the desired location on the screen,
then release your finger.
Recently used applications
Press to view recently used applications.
Widgets
1. From the Home screen, touch and hold an empty area
of the Home screen.
2. In the menu that displays on the bottom of the screen,
touch Widgets.
3. To add a widget shortcut to the desktop screen:
• Press and hold the widget until the screen flashes and the
Home screen appears.
• Drag the widget to the desired location on the screen, then
release your finger.

Wallpapers
1. From the Home screen, touch and hold an empty area of the
Home screen.
2. In the menu that displays on the bottom of the screen,
touch Wallpapers.
3. Touch one of the images to select it.
4. When the selected image is highlighted, select Set Wallpaper.
You can also choose wallpaper from the Gallery of photos you
have stored on your phone.
1. If you select Gallery, the photo album opens.
2. Swipe through the album to find the picture you want to use,
and then touch it. (If this picture is too large, you will be given
an opportunity to crop it.)
Folders
Regroup desktop icons into an on-screen folder to save space
and access more applications:
1. Touch and hold any icon on the screen to move it.
2. Drag it over another icon and drop it to create a folder
containing both icons.
3. Then drag and drop other icons to the folder. You can
reposition the folder on the screen by drag and dropping it.
4. Touch and hold the folder to give it a name.

Context menus
When you are in a feature screen or application, you can open
the context menu by touching the Menu icon .
Note: Not all screens have context menus. If you touch the
Menu icon inside an application that has no context menu,
nothing happens.
Here are examples of two context menus that will be displayed
if you touch the Menu icon while in the Contacts feature:

Make and Receive Calls
There are several ways to make and receive a call from your
Obi phone.
Make a call
From the keypad
1. From the Main Menu or the Home screen, tap the Phone icon
2. Use the keypad to enter the phone number.
One-touch dialing
To make a one-touch call, touch the selected phone number…
• in the Recent Calls log.
• from your Contacts list.
• from the Speed Dial list (“Favorites”).
• from any message or web page containing a phone number.
Hint: Touch the Contacts icon on Main Menu or the Home
screen to make a call from the Recent Calls log, Contact list,
Groups, or Favorites.
International calls
1. Press and hold the “0” key to enter the plus (+) symbol.
2. Then enter the international country code and area code
followed by the phone number.
Answer a call
To answer a call, swipe the icon towards the icon on the right.

Reject a call
To reject a call, swipe the icon towards the icon
on the left.
End a call
To end a call, touch the icon.
Adjust the volume on a call
Press the Volume up/down buttons to adjust the call volume.

Enable Airplane mode
Some locations—like airplanes—may require you to turn o
your mobile, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth® wireless connections.
1. Touch and hold the power button.
2. The Power Mode screen will appear.
To change the speaker volume during a call
Press the Volume button up or down.
To turn on the loudspeaker during a call

To enter numbers during a call
1. During the call tap Dialpad. A keypad will appear.
2. Tap the numbers you want to enter.
To mute the ringtone for an incoming call
While the phone is ringing press the Volume up or down button.

Send Messages
You can use Messaging to exchange text and multimedia messages.
Create and send text messages
Follow these steps to create and send a text message:
1. Touch to compose new message.
2. Enter or select a mobile phone number.
3. Touch the text entry field and type your message.
4. Touch to send the message.
Touch to compose a new text
or multimedia message.
Touch the message to open
a messaging conversation.
Write your message here.
When finished, press to
close the keyboard.
Touch and hold the text entry
field to open a menu and to
copy or cut text.
Touch to add photos, video,
audio, contacts,
calendar events—or take
photos and videos.
Touch a key to enter a letter.
Touch and hold the ?123 key to
access more keyboard options.

Create and send a multimedia message
A text message is converted to MMS (multimedia messaging
service) if you:
• send it to an email address instead of a cell phone number.
• add multimedia media file(s).
• send the message to multiple recipients.
Follow these steps to create and send an MMS:
1. Touch to compose new message
2. Enter or select a mobile phone number.
3. Touch the text entry field and type your message.
4. Touch to attach various types of files.
5. Touch to send the MMS.
Note: Learn the privacy laws in your region before you
use your phone for any type of recording, and before sharing
personal information of any kind.

Other message options
1. Open the message thread containing the message
you want to work on.
2. Touch the Menu icon to open the context menu.
3. Touch your selection.
Message settings
You can also open the context menu by touching the Menu icon
to work on messages and their settings. The message settings
allow you to set:
• SMS/MMS limits
• notifications
• phone vibration while typing
• delivery reports

Get Connected
Your phone can connect to a variety of networks and devices,
including Wi-Fi, GPRS, and Bluetooth devices such as headsets.
You can also connect the phone to a PC.
Connect to the Internet
Access the Internet via a cellular network provider:
1. To configure the Internet on your phone, go to:
Common Settings/All Settings > Data Usage > Cellular Data
2. By default, your network provider sends the APN (Access Point
Name) settings via SMS, or they come automatically with your
SIM card. However, you may need to install these settings.
• If your APN has been sent by SMS, or is provided with your
SIM card, choose from the listed APN settings.
• If the APN settings are not listed by default, contact your
network provider.
3. To add any operator APN settings, go to:
All Settings > More > Cellular Networks > Access Point Names.
Warning: To avoid any overhead costs, contact your operator
to know more about the APN settings for your subscription.
4. After you have selected or configured the APN, go to:
Settings> Date Usage > Cellular Data.
5. Swipe the switch to enable Internet connection.
Enable Wi-Fi access using secure certificates
If your VPN or Wi-Fi network relies on secure certificates, you
must obtain the certificates and save them in your phone’s storage
before you can configure access to those VPN or Wi-Fi networks
on your phone.
Note: You may need to download the certificates from a website.
1. Copy the certificate(s) from your computer to the root of the
SD card.
2. Touch:
All Settings > Security > Credential storage > Install from storage.
3. Touch the file name of the certificate you want to install.
4. Only the names of certificates that you have not already installed
on your phone will be displayed.
5. If prompted, enter the certificate’s password, and touch OK.
6. Enter a name for the certificate, and touch OK.

Access the Internet via Wi-Fi
1. To browse the Internet via Wi-Fi, go to: Settings > WLAN
2. Swipe the switch to use Wi-Fi for your data connection.
• The phone will scan for available wireless networks.
• In the list of Wi-Fi networks, select the Wi-Fi connection
you wish to use.
Connect to devices and PCs
You can connect your phone to a Bluetooth device, or transfer files
to or from your PC using a data cable.
Pair with Bluetooth devices
1. Turn on the Bluetooth device you want to pair and place it near
your phone.
2. On the phone, go to: Settings > Bluetooth
3. Swipe the icon to activate Bluetooth.
4. Your phone will scan and display the Bluetooth devices that
are in range.
• If the device you want to pair is not in the list, make it visible.
Note: Consult the Bluetooth device’s manual to learn how to
make the device visible.
• If your phone stops scanning before you make the other
device visible, touch Scan for Devices to re-start scanning.
5. Once your device shows up in the on-screen list of local Bluetooth
devices, touch its ID to pair it to your phone.
• If you are prompted for a password, enter a password of
your choice.
• If you are prompted to enter a password on both devices,
be sure to use the same password for both the phone and
the Bluetooth device.
6. If the pairing is successful, your phone will connect to the device.
