The machine’s on/off switch only provides an operating function and does not disconnect the machine from

supplied on a fax.
Part 68, Section 68.381 (c) (3) of FCC Regulations states the following:
"Telephone facsimile machines: identification of the sender of the message. It shall be unlawful for any
person within the United States to use a computer or other electronic device to send any message via a
telephonefacsimile machine unless such message clearly contains,in a margin at the top orbottom of each
transmitted page or on the first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an identification of
the business, other entity, or individual sending the message and the telephone number of the sending
machine or such business, other entity, or individual. Telephone facsimile machines manufactured on and
after December 20, 1992 must clearly mark such identifying information on each transmitted message".

TheRENisusedtodeterminethequantityofdevicesthatmaybeconnectedtothetelephoneline.Excessive
RENs on the telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in response to an incoming call. In most,
but not all areas, the sum of the RENs should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices
that may be connected to the line, as determined by the total RENs, contact the telephone company to
determine the maximum REN for the calling area.
If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance
that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone
companywillnotifythecustomerassoonaspossible.Also,youwillbeadvisedofyourrighttofileacomplaint

HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL
This manual is an indispensible guide for learning to use the many features available on your

description of the machine, describes how to install it and how to get started straight away, using
its basic features only.
After this preliminary phase, read the second part of the manual "Getting the Best From Your
Facsimile Machine". It offers a more detailed description of the machine and its functions and

andsoon.Thiswillhelpyoutofamiliarizeyourselfwiththemachineandgainconfidenceinlearning
the concepts, terminology and procedures that will enable you to take full advantage of your

The third part "The procedures" describes the procedures to be followed in order to activate the

INSTALLING YOUR FACSIMILE
MACHINE AND GETTING STARTED

INTRODUCTION
Thefacsimilemachinethatyouhavepurchasedwillenableyoutocommunicatewithavastnumber
of correspondents all over the world.
The machine in your possession is MULTIFUNCTIONAL. This means that, as well as being able
to send and receive documents quickly and easily using its wide range of facsimile features, you
canconnectittoapersonalcomputeranduseitasa scanner ,whenyouneedtocapturepictures,
a printer , when you have to print documents on the PC and enables you to send and receive
documents on a personal computer (for more detailed information, contact your local dealer).
This facsimile machine also saves you money! In fact, you can print on various different sizes of
PLAIN PAPER. The printing unit is based on bubble ink jet technology, enhanced by resolution
regulation, text/image separation and grey scale functions, which make it an extremely reliable
copying machine. You can, of course, also use it as a photocopier . Due to its SIMULTANEOUS
OPERATION, you can set one transaction while the facsimile machine is carrying out another: it
willautomaticallycarryoutthetransactionsetassoonastheoneinprogresshasbeencompleted.
In addition, you can leave the machine unattended at all times without worry: the machine's
MEMORY will enable you to send documents at a preset time or receive them even if there is no
paper or ink left, and automatically prints detailed reports on the transactions carried out.

WhentheON/OFFswitchisinitsOFFposition,thefacsimilemachineisstillpowered.
Tocutoffthepowersupply,unplugthepowercablefromthemainssocket,whichmust
be easily accessible.
INSTALLATION SITE
The facsimile machine must be placed on a stable surface. There must be sufficient free space
around it for air to circulate and the output document tray to be positioned correctly so that paper
does not pile up, increasing the likelihood of jams. The tray also enables the facsimile machine to
be placed beside a table, thus saving a considerable amount of space.
The machine must not be exposed to sunlight, installed in a damp or dusty room or subjected to
sharp changes in temperature and humidity.
To avoid installing a new telephone line, position the machine near an existing telephone socket,
where possible.
In addition, make sure that the electrical socket, which must be used exclusively by the facsimile
machine, is connected to ground.
NOTICE: The manufacturers decline all liability for improper use or installation, connection to
unauthorized devices or tampering by unauthorized staff.

CONNECTING TO THE TELEPHONE LINE
Insomecountriestheinstallationprocedureisperformedbythecustomerengineeringservice.To
install the machine yourself, follow the procedure described below.
WARNING: Check that the power cable is unplugged before connecting the machine to the
telephone line.
To connect the facsimile machine and a telephone to the telephone line, proceed as follows:
1. Connect one end of the telephone line connection cable to the line socket (LINE) on the
facsimile machine, and the other end to the wall telephone socket (see “case 1” or “case 2”
figure).
Note: if the network to which the facsimile machine is connected has more than one socket
connected in series, the facsimile machine must be connected to the primary socket.
2. Make the telephone connection (if available) in either of the following ways:
a) ifthetelephonelineconnectioncableprovidedwiththefacsimilemachinehasanextension
plug(withsocket):plugthetelephonecordintotheextensionplug(withsocket),(see“case
1” figure).
b) if the telephone line connection cable provided with the facsimile machine does not have
an extension plug (with socket): connect the telephone cord’s “miniature” connector
directly to the connection socket (TEL1), removing the plastic cap, if fitted (see “case 2”
figure).

Havingconnectedthefacsimilemachine to the telephone line, make surethattheON/OFFswitch
is in its OFF position (O), and then plug the power cable into the mains socket.

PREPARING THE MACHINE FOR USE
Lift open the document support and the document tray as shown in the figure below and connect
the power cable.

LOADING PAPER
INSERTING THE PRINT HEAD
1. Lift the paper positioning lever. 2. Insert the paper (max. 200
sheets of 80 g/m2 paper) so the
recto side is facing the operator
console.
3. Lower the paper positioning

CAUTION!
If the message "CHECK PRINT HEAD" appears when you close the facsimile machine, remove
the print head and reinsert it until you clearly hear it click into place (this time press more firmly) .
