Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Omron® Instant Ear Thermometer.
Please read carefully this instruction manual completely before using
the thermometer.
This ear thermometer offers a safe, accurate and quick temperature reading
from the ear canal. This thermometer senses the infrared heat from the
eardrum (tympanic membrane).
No need to worry about broken glass or mercury hazards.
An ear temperature is not affected by talking, eating or drinking. These factors
do affect an oral temperature.
In one second, it changes the heat measured into an equivalent oral temperature.
The unit is easy to use for children and adults. Temperatures can be taken
when a child is sleeping.
We recommend you practice taking a temperature with the Omron®Instant
Thermometer on each member of your family when they are healthy. This way
you will be confident in your technique when using the ear thermometer
on a sick family member.
The Omron® Instant Ear Thermometer has been clinically tested and proven
to be safe and accurate when used in accordance with this operating
instruction manual.
Contact your Healthcare Provider if you have any questions regarding
specific temperatures.
This product is intended for home use only.

Warnings
• Use of this thermometer is not intended as a substitution for consultation
with your physician.
• This thermometer is intended to be used in human ears only.
• Use only Omron®lens covers for this specific unit.
• For proper hygiene, DO NOTreuse the same lens covers.
• Replace the lens cover when it is affected by earwax
or other body fluids.
• Earwax in the ear canal may cause a lower temperature reading.
Make sure patient’s ear canal is clean to ensure an accurate reading.
• Handle the thermometer with care. Improper handling may
affect temperature accuracy.
• Keep the unit and lens covers out of the reach of children.
• Use your unit in room temperature. Extremes in environmental
temperature may affect the accuracy.
• Store unit at room temperature when possible. Keep thermometer
at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before use.
• Remove unit if pain is noted during use.
• DO NOTuse if ear infection is present.
• DO NOTuse right after swimming or bathing as this may injure ear
tissue as well as affect the accuracy of the temperature.
• DO NOTtake apart, repair or change any parts of the unit at any time.
• DO NOTget the unit wet or pour any liquid onto any portion of the unit.

Lens Cover Applicator
• The thermometer is preset at (Fahrenheit) °F.
• Follow the steps below to change the measurement scale from
(Fahrenheit) °F to (Celsius) °C.
1) Turn off the unit, press and hold the start button.
2) Release the button after approximately 5 seconds when the (Celsius) °C
or (Fahrenheit) °F symbol appears on the LCD display.
3) Press the Start button again until desired measurement scale is reached.
4) When measurement scale has been chosen, wait 5 seconds and the
unit will enter the ready for measurement mode automatically.
•Repeat the process to reverse measurement scale if desired.

Before Use
Important: Prior to every measurement, fit a new lens cover on the probe.
Failure to do so may result in incorrect temperature measurement.
For hygienic use, attach a new lens cover each time.
Replace Lens Cover
- Use only Omron® Lens Covers (model MC-509NLC)
1) Place a lens cover onto storage
case hole with paper side upwards
(plastic side downwards).
3) Completely push the probe
through the lens cover hole.
4) After feeling a slight click,
remove the unit, and the lens
cover will be attached.
2) Position the unit vertically and
insert the probe into the
center part of the lens cover.
Please check that the lens cover is fitted firmly (over the Probe Cover Line
on the Probe) before use. If the lens cover becomes damaged, replace
with a new one immediately.

Directions for Use
1. With lens cover correctly on unit, press On/Off button.
The LCD display is activated to show all segments for
2 seconds (illuminated display for 5 seconds).
2. The last measurement reading will be shown on the
display automatically for 3 seconds with the ''M''
memory symbol.
3. When the °C or °F symbol is flashing, a beep sound
is heard and the thermometer is ready for measurement.
4. Straighten the ear canal by pulling the ear up
and back to give a clear view of the eardrum.
•For children under 1 year:
Pull the ear straight back
•Children aged 1 year to adult:
Pull the ear up and back
NOTE:
•For an infant, it is best to have the child laying flat with his
head sideways so the ear is facing upwards. For an older
child or adult, it is best to stand behind and slightly to the
side of the individual.
5. While tugging the ear, insert the probe snuggly into the ear
canal and press the ''START'' button. Release it, when you
hear a beep sound. This is the reminding signal that confirms
the end of measurement. After completing measurement,
the display will illuminate and stay lit for 5 seconds.
6. Remove the thermometer from the ear canal. The LCD
displays the measured temperature.
7. Replace the lens cover after each measurement. To do
this, please follow the instructions in ''Replace Lens Cover''
8. In order to assure accurate readings, PLEASE wait
at least 30 seconds after 3-5 continuous measurements
9. Turn the unit off by pressing the On/Off button.The thermometer will
automatically turn off in approximately 1 minute after a temperature
has been taken.

•In the following situations it is recommended that three temperatures in the
same ear be taken and the highest one taken as the reading:
1) New born infants in the first 100 days.
2) Children under three years of age with a compromised immune system and
for whom the presence or absence of fever is critical.
3) When the user is learning how to use the ear thermometer for the first time
until he/she has familiarized himself/herself with the instrument and
obtains consistent readings.
Battery Replacement
The thermometer is supplied with one lithium battery, type CR2032. If the
battery symbol is displayed, replace battery at once. Remove the battery cover
by sliding it in the direction shown. Take out the battery and put in a new one.
To keep your thermometer in the best condition and protect the unit from damage
follow the directions listed below:
Clean the unit with a soft dry cloth. Do not use any
abrasive or volatile cleaners. Rubbing alcohol may be
applied to a soft cloth to wipe off the casing. To clean the
lens wipe with a soft dry cloth or cotton swab. Never immerse
the thermometer or any of the components in water.
Store the thermometer in a safe and dry location. After each use attach
a new lens cover to protect the lens. When not in use keep the thermometer
in the storage case. Do not subject to extreme hot or cold temperatures,
humidity and direct sunlight. Avoid subjecting the thermometer to strong
shocks such as dropping on the floor, vibration or dust.
Use the unit consistent with the instruction provided in this manual.

manufacturing defects for a period of three years under normal use. This warranty
extends only to the original retail purchaser. The three year warranty excludes the
battery. Should repair be needed within the warranty period, ship the unit prepaid
with proof of purchase date and $5.00 for return shipping and insurance to:

Introducción
Gracias por comprar el termómetro de oído instantáneo Omron®.
Antes de utilizar el termómetro, lea detenidamente este manual
de instrucciones.
Este termómetro de oído permite conocer la temperatura del conducto auditivo
de manera rápida, precisa y segura. El termómetro detecta el calor infrarrojo
proveniente del tímpano del oído (membrana timpánica).
Ya no necesitará preocuparse de que pueda romperse el vidrio ni de los
riesgos del mercurio.
La temperatura del oído no cambia al hablar, comer o beber, aunque estas
actividades sí afectan la temperatura oral.
Este termómetro convierte el calor medido a la temperatura oral equivalente
en un segundo.
Tanto niños como adultos pueden usar la unidad sin dificultades. Se puede
medir la temperatura de un niño incluso mientras duerme.
Le recomendamos que practique cómo tomar la temperatura con
el termómetro de oído instantáneo Omron®a cada miembro de la
familia cuando estén sanos. Así conocerá la técnica que deberá utilizar al
emplear el termómetro de oído cuando alguno de ellos esté enfermo.
El termómetro de oído instantáneo Omron® ha sido clínicamente probado
y se comprobó su seguridad y exactitud cuando se utiliza según las
instrucciones de este manual.
Consulte a su médico si tiene alguna duda al respecto del significado de alguna
temperatura específica.
Este producto está diseñado sólo para ser
utilizado en el hogar.

Advertencias
• Este termómetro no fue diseñado para ser utilizado en reemplazo
de la consulta con su médico.
• Este termómetro debe utilizarse únicamente en el oído humano.
• Sólo emplee los protectores de el lente Omron®correspondientes
a su unidad específica.
• Por razones de higiene, NO utilice dos veces los mismos protectores de el lente.
• Reemplace el protector de el lente cuando éste se vea afectado por la cera
del oído u otros líquidos corporales.
• La cera en el conducto auditivo puede provocar una lectura de temperatura
inferior. Asegúrese de que el conducto auditivo del paciente esté limpio para
garantizar una lectura exacta.
• Trate al termómetro con cuidado. Si no se usa de manera adecuada,
se afectará la exactitud de la medición de la temperatura.
• Mantenga la unidad y los protectores de el lente alejados de los niños.
• Use su unidad a temperatura ambiente. Las temperaturas ambientales
extremas pueden afectar la exactitud de las mediciones.
• Cuando sea posible, guarde la unidad a temperatura ambiente.
Mantenga el termómetro a temperatura ambiente durante al menos
30 minutos antes de usarlo.
• Si siente dolor al usar la unidad, quítela del oído.
• NO use el termómetro cuando el oído se encuentre infectado.
• NO use el termómetro inmediatamente después de nadar o bañarse ya que esto
puede dañar el tejido del oído y afectar la exactitud de la medición
de la temperatura.
• NO lo desarme, repare ni cambie ninguna pieza de la unidad en ningún momento.
• NO humedezca la unidad ni vierta líquido sobre ninguna de sus piezas.

• Según la configuración original de este termómetro, las temperaturas
obtenidas se visualizan en grados (Fahrenheit) °F.
• Siga los pasos indicados a continuación, si desea cambiar la escala de
medición de grados (Fahrenheit) °F a centígrados (Celsius) °C.
1) Apague la unidad, pulse el botón de inicio y manténgalo presionado.
2) Suéltelo después de alrededor de 5 segundos cuando el símbolo de grados
centígrados, °C o de grados Fahrenheit °F aparezca en el visor LCD.
3) Pulse el botón de Inicio (Start) hasta que la escala de medición deseada
aparezca en el visor.
4) Una vez que la escala de medición haya sido elegida, espere 5 segundos
y la unidad indicará que está lista para realizar mediciones automáticamente.
•Repita el proceso para invertir la escala de medición, si así lo desea.

Antes de usar
Importante: Antes de cada medición, coloque un nuevo protector de
el lente en la sonda. Si no lo hace, podría obtener una medición
de temperatura incorrecta.
Por razones de higiene, coloque un nuevo protector de el
lente cada vez que lo use.
Recambio del protector de el lente
- Use sólo el protector de lente Omron® (modelo MC-509NLC)
1) Coloque un protector de el lente en
el orificio para guardarlo en el estuche
con el lado de papel hacia arriba.
(el lado de plástico hacia abajo).
3) Empuje la sonda completamente
a través del orificio del protector
de la lente.
4) Después de sentir un suave clic,
quite la unidad y el protector
de el lente quedará colocado.

mente e inserte la sonda en la
parte central del protector
de el lente.
Antes de usar el termómetro, verifique que el protector de el lente esté
colocado firmemente (sobre la línea de la cubierta de la sonda en la
sonda). Si el protector de el lente se daña, recámbielo
por uno nuevo inmediatamente.

Instrucciones de uso
1. Una vez que el protector de el lente esté correctamente
colocado en la unidad, presione el botón de encendido
(On/Off). El visor LCD se activa para mostrar todos
los segmentos durante 2 segundos (pantalla iluminada
durante 5 segundos).
2. La última medición aparecerá en el visor automáticamente
y permanecerá durante 3 segundos con el símbolo ‘’M’’
de memoria.
3. Cuando el símbolo °C o °F titila, se escucha
un sonido y el termómetro está listo para realizar la medición.
4. Enderece el conducto auditivo tirando de la
oreja hacia arriba y hacia atrás para poder ver
el tímpano con claridad.
•Para niños menores de 1 año:
Tire de la oreja hacia atrás en línea recta
•Para niños de 1 año en adelante y adultos:
Tire de la oreja hacia arriba y hacia atrás
NOTA:
•Para un lactante, lo mejor es acostarlo con su
cabeza a costado de manera que el oído quede hacia arriba.
Para un niño más grande o un adulto, lo mejor es pararse
detrás de él y ligeramente hacia su costado.
5. Mientras tira de la oreja, inserte la sonda perfectamente en el
conducto auditivo y presione el botón de inicio (START).
Suéltelo cuando escuche un sonido. Esta es la señal que
confirma el final de la medición. Después de completar la
medición, la pantalla se iluminará y quedará encendida
durante 5 segundos.
6. Retire el termómetro del conducto auditivo. El visor LCD
mostrará la temperatura registrada.
7. Recambie el protector de el lente después de cada medición. Para ello,
siga las instrucciones que se encuentran en “Recambio del
protector de el lente”
8. A fin de asegurarse de que se obtengan mediciones exactas, espere
al menos 30 segundos después de 3 a 5 mediciones continuas
9. Apague la unidad presionando el botón de Encendido (On/Off ).
El termómetro se apagará automáticamente alrededor de 1 minuto
después de medir la temperatura.

•Se recomienda realizar tres mediciones de temperatura en el mismo oído
y considerar la lectura más alta en los siguientes casos:
1) Bebés recién nacidos hasta los primeros 100 días.
2) Niños menores de tres años de edad con compromiso del sistema
inmunitario y para quienes la presencia o ausencia de fiebre
es un factor crítico.
3) Cuando el usuario está aprendiendo cómo usar el termómetro de oído por
primera vez y hasta que se familiarice con el instrumento y obtenga
mediciones uniformes.
Recambio de la pila
El termómetro está provisto de una pila de litio, tipo CR2032. Si el símbolo de
la pila aparece en el visor, recambie la pila de inmediato. Retire la tapa de la
pila desplazándola en la dirección indicada. Retire la pila y coloque una nueva.
Para conservar su termómetro en buen estado y protegerlo contra daños,
siga las instrucciones que se indican a continuación:
Limpie la unidad con un paño suave y seco. No utilice
limpiadores abrasivos o volátiles. Se puede limpiar la cubierta
con un paño suave con alcohol. Limpie el lente con un paño suave
y seco o con hisopos de algodón. Nunca sumerja el termómetro
o cualquiera de sus componentes en agua.
Guarde el termómetro en un lugar seguro y seco. Cada vez que lo use, coloque
un protector de la lente nuevo para protegerla. Cuando no use el termómetro,
guárdelo en el estuche. No lo exponga a temperaturas extremas de frío
o calor, ni a humedad extrema o a la luz solar directa. Evite someterlo
al polvo o a golpes fuertes, tales como caídas al suelo o vibraciones.
Utilice la unidad según lo indican las instrucciones detalladas en este manual.
Utilice sólo piezas y accesorios autorizados.
Cuidado y mantenimiento
