Features
This D/A converter/Headphones amplifier/SD audio player supports
Apple iOS products. Using asynchronous mode that supports USB audio
(192kHz/24-bit and 5.6MHz DSD/DSD128), this unit can convert signals
from digital to analog accurately with its built-in high-precision clock to
enable playback of high-resolution audio contents.

Apple products that can be used with
this unit
This unit can be connected to and used with the following Apple products.
iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad Retina (4th generation),
iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini Retina, iPod touch (5th generation)
oAlways use the USB cable that was included with the iPod, iPhone or
iPad to connect it to this unit's standard USB port. Operation cannot be
guaranteed when using a non-genuine cable.
Playback application software
Our Onkyo HF Player application (Windows and Mac versions and iOS and
Android apps available) supports playback of high-resolution audio files.
You can download it from the Onkyo website.
Placement precautions
oDo not put anything on top of the unit.
oAvoid placing the unit in direct sunlight or close to any source of heat,
such as a radiator, heater, open fireplace or amplifier. Also avoid loca-
tions that are subject to vibrations or exposed to excessive dust, cold
or moisture.
oPlace the unit in a stable location near the audio system that you will
use with it.
oThe voltage supplied to the unit should match the voltage printed on
the rear panel. If you are in any doubt regarding this matter, consult an
electrician.
oDo not open the body of the unit as this might result in damage to the
circuitry or cause electric shock. If a foreign object should get into the
unit, contact your dealer.
oWhen removing the power plug from the wall outlet, always pull
directly on the plug; never yank on the cord.
Recycling rechargeable batteries
This unit uses a lithium-ion battery. Lithium-ion batteries
are valuable resources that can be recycled. Please coop-
erate in recycling them.

Supported operating systems
Computers running the following operating systems can be connected by
USB to this unit.
Microsoft Windows
Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1
oTo use a Windows computer for playback, you must install the dedicated
driver on the computer beforehand.
Download the dedicated driver from the Onkyo website.
Important notice
Always install the dedicated driver software on the Windows computer
before connecting the unit to it using a USB cable. If you connect this unit
to a Windows computer that does not already have the driver installed
on it, proper operation will not be possible. Furthermore, be aware that
it might also become impossible to install the driver normally if they are
connected before installation.
Mac OS X
OS X Lion 10.7
OS X Mountain Lion 10.8
OS X Mavericks 10.9
oThis unit can be operated with the standard OS driver, so there is no
need to install a driver.
Use with operating systems other than the above is not guaranteed.

POWER: This lights blue when the unit is on.
CHARGE: This lights red when the unit is charging. When charging
completes, it will become unlit.

B Digital audio input/output and
analog audio input jack
Use this for digital audio input/output or analog audio input.
oThe unit will automatically switch between optical and coaxial
connections.
For digital input:
Optical connection: Use an optical cable with a mini plug.
Coaxial connection: Use the included RCA conversion cable.
For analog input:
Use a cable with a 3.5mm stereo mini plug.
For digital output:
Coaxial connection: Use the included RCA conversion cable.
C Digital/analog switch
Use this to switch between digital input/output and analog input.
If the switch and the cable connected to the connection jack do
not match, audio input and output will not be possible.
oUse the SETTINGS screen to switch digital input and output.
D PHONES jack
Connect a headphones plug (3.5mm stereo mini) to this jack.
CAUTION
oAlways minimize the volume before plugging headphones in and
putting them on. While wearing headphones, do not connect or
disconnect them or turn the unit on or off. Doing so could result
in a sudden loud noise that could harm your hearing.
oBe careful not to mistake the headphones jack for the digital out-
put jack and vice versa. Doing so could result in odd noises and
even damage to connected equipment.
E GAIN switch
Use this to change the output level to suit the headphones that
you are using.
H: high output level
L: low output level
Lower the volume before setting this switch to H.
CAUTION
Particularly when using headphones for the first time with this unit,
set the GAIN switch to L and be sure to raise the volume gradually
during playback to check the sound pressure sensitivity.
F Power/volume knob
Turn this counterclockwise until it stops to turn the unit off.
Use this to adjust the volume. Turn this clockwise to turn the unit
on. Keep turning it clockwise to increase the volume. Turn it coun-
terclockwise to decrease the volume.

This shows song information during playback and songs on the
MUSIC screen, as well as the unit's settings screens.
H Operation buttons
HOME button
Press to open the Home Screen.
Play/pause ( ) button
When stopped or paused, press to start playback.
During playback, press to pause.
Skip/search ( ) buttons
Use to skip to the previous or next track.
Press and hold to search backward/forward.

I microSD card slot
Insert an SD card with music files here.
oDue to FAT32 maximum file size limitations, SDHC cards cannot
have files that are 4GB or larger.
oUse SDXC cards if you want to use files that are 4GB or larger.
J HOLD switch
Slide this right to activate the hold function, which disables the use
of other buttons.
K Multiway ( ) button
On the MUSIC screen, use this for various functions including track
selection and track skipping.
Turn the dial to make a selection and press the dial to confirm it.

L Computer connection port
Use the included USB cable for computer connection (USB micro-B
connector to USB A connector) to connect this unit to a computer.
oTo use a Windows computer for playback, you must install the
dedicated driver on the computer beforehand.
M Force shutdown switch
Turn the power/volume knob to the OFF position, and then insert a
fine pin such as the end of a paper clip into this hole.
The unit turns off.
N iPod/iPhone/iPad device connection port
Use the USB cable included with the iPod/iPhone/iPad device to
connect it to this unit.
oConnecting anything other than an iPod/iPhone/iPad to this port
could cause the operation time of the battery to be significantly
reduced.
Precaution during operation
While a pop-up message such as “Processing...” “Loading...” or “Removing...”
appears on the display, do not connect anything to or disconnect anything from
the computer connection port or iPod/iPhone/iPad device connection port.
Note about input sources
This unit does not have an input selection switch. When this unit is turned
on, the first device connected to it becomes the input source.
If multiple devices are already connected to this unit when it is turned on,
the input source will be selected with the following priority: computer con-
nection port, iPod/iPhone/iPad device connection port, digital audio input/
output and analog audio input jack, microSD card slot.
To change the input source, turn the unit off once and connect the
desired device.

Recharging
This unit has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
oCharge it before using the unit the first time after purchase and after it
has not been used for a long time.
oMake sure the temperature of the surrounding environment is between
5−35°C when charging.
Charging might not occur properly outside this temperature range.
oA computer connected using the included USB cable can also charge
the unit.
oAlways connect this unit and the computer directly. If connected
through a USB hub or other device, charging might not occur properly.
oWhen connected to a computer using the included USB cable, charging
might not start if the computer does not recognize this unit as a valid
USB device.
oThis unit must be off when connected to a computer to be recharged.
If the unit is connected to a computer when on, it will not start
recharging.
oEven when using the included DC power supply cable and recharging
has started, the battery power might still consumed if you listen at high
volume.
oAn AC adapter (TASCAM/PS-P515U) that works with this unit is avail-
able for purchase. Connect the included DC power supply cable to
it to charge the unit. The maximum current when charging is 1.5 A.
Compared to charging from a computer, the unit can be charged more
rapidly by using a DC power supply.
oWhen the included DC power supply cable and the USB cable for
computer connection are both connected, the unit will charge from the
DC power supply cable. Power will not be supplied from the computer
in this case.

Automatic power saving function
This unit will enter sleep mode automatically under the following
circumstances.
When used as a headphone amp
oWhen 30 minutes pass without digital or analog audio input.
NOTE
Automatic power saving will not function when an iPod/iPhone/iPad (pow-
ered on) is connected to the iPod/iPhone/iPad device connection port or
a computer (powered on) is connected to the computer connection port.
During SD card playback
oWhen the player’s auto power saving function is on and the player has
not operated for the set amount of time.
NOTE
To end sleep mode, turn the volume knob counterclockwise until the unit
is turned off.
Basic operation
VComplete all other connections before turning the unit on.
oRead the owner’s manuals of all devices that will be connected, and
follow their instructions.
oDo not bundle connection cables with the power cord. Doing so
could cause noise.
oConnect all plugs securely.
Playback on an external input device
1 Connect the input source.
2 Turn this unit on.
Set the volume at a low level.
3 Wait until the input source has been selected.
4 Start playback on the input source device.
5 Turn this unit's power/volume knob to adjust
the volume.
Playback of audio files on an SD card
1 Insert the SD card.
2 Turn this unit on.
Set the volume at a low level.
3 Use the multiway ( /) button to select a
file for playback on the MUSIC screen.
4 Press the multiway button to start playback.
5 Turn this unit's power/volume knob to adjust
the volume.

Home screen
This is the basic screen that appears when the unit is turned on.
The currently selected mode appears highlighted.
Press the multiway button to open the selected mode screen.
Use the multiway ( /) button to select from the following three
mode screens.

This shows whether or not an SD card is loaded.

This shows the remaining time (hours: minutes: seconds) of the
playing file.

*Onkyo HF Player playlists can be used.
Creating playlists with Onkyo HF Player
1 Turn the computer on.
2 Insert an SD card into the unit and connect it
to the computer using a USB cable.
The unit will operate as an SD card reader/writer.
oYou can also use an ordinary SD card reader/writer connected to
the computer.
3 Launch Onkyo HF Player and add the desired
tracks on the SD card to the playlist.
oThis unit cannot play tracks added to the playlist from the com-
puter hard disk.
4 Save the playlist in the “PLAYLISTS” folder on
the SD card.

Troubleshooting
If you experience a problem with this unit, please check the following
items before requesting service. If it still does not operate correctly, con-
tact the retailer where you purchased the unit.
The unit does not turn on.
eIf the remaining battery charge is too low, the unit will not turn on.
Supply power to the unit through the DC plug or the USB micro-B
port
eHas the automatic power saving function put the unit to sleep?
Turn the volume knob counterclockwise to turn the unit off once.
No sound is output.
eUse the volume knob to adjust the volume.
eConfirm that the connected device is playing back.
eConfirm the PHONES jack connection.

Caractéristiques
Ce convertisseur N/A /amplificateur de casque / lecteur audio SD prend
en charge les produits iOS Apple. Utilisant un monde asynchrone qui gère
l'audio (192kHz/24bits et DSD 128 à 5,6MHz) par USB, cette unité peut
fidèlement convertir les signaux numériques en analogique au moyen de
