1 Introduction
ONLINEUSV-SystemeAG(ONLINE)isoneoftheleadingmanufacturersofuninterruptiblepowersupplies
(UPS).Since1988,theGermancompanyhasfocussedonthedevelopment,production,saleandsupportof
UPSsystems.Basedonunitnumberssold,ONLINEproductsaretheGermannumberoneintheUPSmarket
andinternationallyrecognisedbecauseoftheirtopqualityandexcellentsupport.
Thepowersupplyoftenfailswhenyouleastexpectit.Therecanalsobesignicantuctuationinthequalityof
thepowersupply.Networkproblemscanleadtothedestructionofcriticaldata,datawhichisnotbackedup
canbelostandhardwaredamaged.Thismeansexpensiverepairsanddowntime.

oftheUPSsystemandthebatteries.Pleasereadalltheinstructionsinthemanualbeforeworkingwiththe
device. Keep the manual in a safe place.
CAUTION
• TheUPSsystemcarrieslife-threateningvoltages.Allrepairandmaintenanceworkmustbecarriedout
by customer service personnel.
• TheUPSsystemhasitsownenergysource(batteries).TheoutputoftheUPSsystemcanbeliveeven
whentheUPSsystemisnotconnectedtoawalloutlet.
• Inordertoreducetheriskofreorelectricshock,theUPSsystemmayonlybeinstalledinbuildings
withcontrolledtemperatureandairhumidityinwhichtherearenoconductivecontaminants.The
ambienttemperaturemustnotexceed40°C.TheUPSsystemmustnotbeoperatednearwaterorin
extremelyhighairhumidity(>90%).
• BeforetransportingtheUPSsystem,makesurethatitisdisconnectedfromthepowersupplyand
switchedo.
• Batteriescanposeariskofelectricshockorcatchreasaresultofhighshortcircuitcurrent.Please
takethenecessaryprecautionarymeasures.Maintenancemustbecarriedoutbyqualiedpersonnel
whoaretrainedinhandlingbatteriesandhavegoodknowledgeofthenecessaryprecautionarymea-
sures,seeChapter6>Maintenance.Keepunauthorisedpersonnelawayfrombatteries.
• Batteries must be disposed of properly. Local regulations must be taken into consideration.
• Batteriesmustnotbeburnt.Thereisriskofexplosion.
Keepthetransportboxandthepackagingmaterialforthecarrierorsalespoint.Ifpartsofthesystemhave
beendamagedintransit,submitatransportdamagecomplainttoyoursupplierwithin24hours.Ifyouonly
discoverdamageafteracceptingthedevice,pleasesubmitacomplainforconcealeddamage.
CAUTION
UnpackingtheUPSsystematalowambienttemperaturecanleadtotheformationofcondensation
inside and outside the casing. Only install the UPS system if the inside and outside are completely dry
(riskofelectricshock).
PLEASE NOTE
Move and open the packaged UPS system carefully. Leave the components in their packaging until
they are installed.
To unpack the UPS system and accessories:
1.OpentheexternalboxandtaketheaccessoriespackedwiththeUPSsystemout.
2.CarefullylifttheUPSsystemoutoftheexternalbox.
3.PlacetheUPSsysteminaprotected,adequatelyventilatedpositionwhichisfreeofhumidity,ammable
gasses and corrosion.
4.Inordertoavoidinterferencewithotherdevices,makesuretomaintainaclearanceofatleast20cm.

The UPS system is delivered fully assembled.
CAUTION
Makesurethattheoverallratedperformanceoftheloadconnecteddoesnotexceedthecapacityofthe
UPSsystem.Thepowerconsumptionofinductiveloadsorlaserprinterscanbeveryhigh,pleasetakethis
intoconsiderationwhenspecifyingyourUPSsystem.
1.ConnecttheloadwiththeUPSsystemwithoutswitchingthemon.
2. Connect the mains connection cable for the UPS system into a socket.
3. Press the button on the UPS system until a short beep sounds and the status LED lights up.
4.TheUPSsystemisnowoperatinginnormalmodeandsupplyingtheloadwithreliablepower.
5.Switchtheloadsononebyone.
PLEASE NOTE
Theinternalbatterieschargeupto90%oftheirfullcapacityinlessthaneighthours.ONLINErecommends
chargingthebatteriesfor48hoursafterinstallationorextendedperiodsofnon-use.
ThebatterychargingstartsassoonastheUPSsystemisconnectedtothesupplynetworkandswitchedon.
Starting in battery mode
1. Press the button on the UPS system until a short beep sounds and the status LED lights up.
2.TheUPSsystemisstarting,thedisplaythenshowsthebatterystatues(seeChapter4>Batterystatuses)
andsuppliestheloadsconnectedwithreliablepower.
3. If the displayislit,xallwarnings(seeChapter7>Troubleshooting)andrestarttheUPSsystem.

andmanagementofthePCorserversystemandformonitoringtheYUNTOandthepowersupplynetwork.

DataWatchworksinthebackgroundandisinconstantcommunicationwiththeYUNTOviatheUSBprotocol.
Themostfamousofallfunctions:Automaticdatabackupincludingtheshutdownofrunningapplicationsand
thepropershutdownofthewholesystembymeansofafreelycongurableshutdownroutine.Atthesame
time,DataWatchhasacomprehensivemessagingsystem,time-controlledtestroutinesandeventlogging.
DataWatchsupportsallcurrentoperatingsystems.Asaclient/serverapplication,DataWatchworksinnetworks
andonlocalworkstations.BasedonoptionalRCCMDagent(RemoteConsoleCommand),multipleservers
connectedtoaUPSsystemcanbeaddressedandcontrolledacrossthenetworkwithoutadditionalhardware.

Toensurealongservicelifeofthesystem,theareaaroundtheUPSsystemshouldbekeptcleanandfree
ofdust.Iftheareaaroundthesystemisverydusty,cleantheexternalsurfacesofthesystemwithavacuum
cleaner.
Toensurealongservicelifeforthebatteries,theambienttemperatureshouldnotexceed25°C.
PLEASE NOTE
• BeforetransportingtheUPSsystem,makesurethatitisdisconnectedfromthesupplynetworkand
switchedo.
• Theservicelifeofabatteryvariesasafunctionofhowoftenitisused,intensityofuseandambient
temperature.Batterieswhichareusedbeyondtheirexpectedservicelifeoftenhavereducedautonomy
times.Replacethebatteriesingoodtimetoensurethesystemalwaysrunsatoptimumperformance.
IfyouintendtostoretheUPSsystemforanextendedperiod,chargethebatteryeverythreemonthsbycon-
nectingtheUPSsystemtothesupplynetworkforvehours.Thesystemshouldbestoredinacool,dryplace.
PLEASE NOTE
DonotreplacethebatterieswhiletheUPSsystemisinbatterymode.
Toreplacethebatteries,theUPSsystembustbeswitchedo,disconnectedfromthepowersupplyandopened.
Batteriescannotbehot-swapped.
CAUTION
• Maintenanceworkmustbecarriedoutbyaqualiedtechnicianwhoisfamiliarwithbatteriesandthe
necessarysafetymeasures.Donotallowunauthorisedpersonneltohandlethebatteries.
• Batteriesposetheriskofanelectricshockorinjuryduetohighshortcircuitcurrent.Takethefollowing
safety measures:
• removewatches,jewelleryandothermetalitems
• onlyusetoolswithinsulatedhandles
• do not place tools or metal components on the batteries
• Thebatteriesmustonlybereplacedwiththesamenumberofbatteriesofthesametype.
• Batteriesmustbeproperlydisposedof.Whendisposingofbatteries,complywiththestatutory
regulations applicable in your location.
• Batteriesmustnotbeburnt.Thereisriskofexplosion.
• Do not open or damage the battery or batteries. Battery acid can damage the eyes and skin and cause
poisoning.
• DANGER OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. Never make changes to the battery cabling or connections. Attempting
to change the battery cabling yourself could lead to serious injury.
• ThebatteriesoftheUPSsystemareveryheavy.Becarefulwhenhandlingheavybatteries.
FindoutfromalocalrecyclingcentrehowtheoldbatteriesortheUPSsystemshouldproperlybedisposedof.
Old batteries can also be returned to ONLINE for disposal free of charge. Please contact Support (see Chapter 8
