1. Product description
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel is designed to replace and upgrade the
traditional jockey wheel, or complement a permanent folding jockey wheel for caravans,
boat trailers or heavy trailers. This device enables users to manoeuvre their caravans,
boat trailers and heavy trailers as easily as possible via remote control.
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel utilises a powerful motor to drive the Wheel
in all directions on a hard, level, even surface at an approximate speed of 8 metres per
minute with safe manoeuvring of caravans or trailers up to 3,500kg. Power is supplied
from either a 12V DC auxiliary battery, the vehicle, or caravan or boat in-built supply.
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel has the capacity to traverse an incline, the
degree of which depends on the trailer weight, available surface traction and other safety
factors. *Caution must be used whenever operating in the vicinity of sloped or uneven
surfaces (*see all Safety warnings in this manual).
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel with height adjustment of 250mm is easy to
clamp onto the chassis of caravan or trailer and locked as a normal support stand when
caravan or trailer is parked. A heavy duty or double clamp must be used when fitted to
any trailer over 1500kg to ensure adequate stability.

4
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel supports a loaded weight of 350kg. It is
extremely portable with total weight of 22kg. The size of the ‘Wheel’is 326x220x760mm
and utilizing the Trolley Carry Bag (sold separately) can be easily packed in a car to
travel.
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel handheld remote control unit can effectively
operate the wheel within up to 50mt range. Symbols on the control show you the driving
directions.
Power to Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel will automatically turn off followed
by a long audible ‘beep’ if there is an over temperature or over-current fault. This function
will protect the motor from risk of damage. Turn remote ‘Off’ then ‘On’ to reset.

2. Safety
1. Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel is a 12V DC powered device. It
should not be powered by other than a 12V power source under any circumstances.
2. The 12V battery MUST be charged and in good condition to ensure Optitec
Wireless Remote Control Wheel will operate to its full performance specification.
3. If the caravan or trailer does not have its own hand-brake, the use of Optitec
Wireless Remote Control Wheel is not recommended.
4. Note: Although Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel locks when power is
‘off’, it is not to be used as a parking brake. The trailer braking system must always
be used as the primary system.
5. Never rely on Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel to provide the braking
or stopping capability for the caravan or trailer.
6. Never allow children or persons who have not read this manual and are not
familiar with the use of this device to operate it. Never operate this device or allow
others to operate it whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
7. Remove power supply as soon as the caravan or trailer is parked so that there
is no risk of accidental operation.
8. Never attempt to tow a caravan or trailer whilst Optitec Wireless Remote
Control Wheel is still fitted and in contact with the ground. This will damage the unit.
9. Always secure the Remote control unit from children or other unauthorized use.
There is a Padlock Security Lug (#14) under the machine to protect from theft.
10. The Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel should not be operated with the
shaft wound ‘up’. It should only be operated in the fully ‘down’ position to prevent
damage to the support shaft components.

6
3. Installation
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel is designed to mount as a traditional jockey
wheel. See the following procedures and refer to the photos and descriptions on Page 1.
1. Attach Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel to the caravan or trailer clamp/s at
the Shaft Locating Lug (#3) position, aligning the Locating Strip (#4) with the Clamp
Opening (#12) or Clamp Hinge (#13) to prevent the shaft rotating in the clamp when
turning left or right, and fasten tightly.
NEVER allow the weight of the caravan/trailer to drop onto the Shaft Keyway
Locating Ring (#10). It is designed to only guide the ‘Key’ into the ‘Keyway’.
2. If your caravan or trailer does not have the standard clamp, attach the Accessory
Clamp (supplied separately) to chassis with the bolts and nuts provided in the pack
or alternately obtain a bracket suiting the clamp style of your caravan or trailer to
mount Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel. A suitable Heavy Duty or Double
Clamp must be used when fitting to trailers over 1500kg.
3. Use the Raise-lower handle (#1) to lift the front of the caravan or trailer. Ensure
the Locking key (#6) aligns with the Slot (#5) and lower it to the bottom of travel prior
to commencement of any Remote Control operation.
4. Insert Anderson plug from your caravan (or power cable supplied) into Anderson
plug (#7) on Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel.
5. Connect battery leads: Red to positive (+) terminal of battery or jumpstart or
outlet of caravan power supply. Connect Black to negative (-) terminal of battery or
jumpstart or outlet of caravan power supply. You should hear a “BEEP” from the
machine - if not, power is not getting to the machine. (Supply must be capable
of 50 Amps at 12 Volts).
6. Before operating Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel, use the Raise-lower
handle (#1) to lower it fully ensuring that the Rotation locking key (#6) aligns with the
Shaft rotation locking Keyway Slot (#5) to lock the Main support shaft (#2) inner and
outer. This will minimise the ‘twisting’ force at the clamp attachment point during
operation.

7
4. Operations
1. Before commencing any operation of Optitec Wireless Remote Control
Wheel, ensure that the caravan or trailer is on a level, even, firm surface and there is
no risk of it moving towards a slope that could allow it to roll uncontrolled.
2. Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel although it may do so very well, is
not specifically designed to move a caravan or trailer on sand, gravel, soft soil &
grass, wet surfaces or rough, uneven ground. It is the responsibility of the Operator to
determine individual situations and operational ability.
3.
Sufficient down force must be applied to Optitec Wireless Remote Control
Wheel to ensure adequate traction in order to move the caravan or trailer safely and
accurately. Be aware of your caravan weight distribution characteristics.
4. Release the caravan or trailer hand-brake prior to operation. Using Optitec Wireless
Remote Control Wheel Remote Control Unit, turn ‘on’power with button (#2). A
‘Beep’ will sound. The caravan or trailer can now be moved by pressing the buttons
on Remote Control Unit as indicated –forward (#4), backward (#5), left (#6) and right
(#7). The LED will light only whilst a button is pressed and is not an indication of
power to the machine. Power will automatically shut off after 15 minutes of inactivity.
5. Whilst moving the caravan or trailer, it is advisable to ensure the handbrake is
easily accessible in case it is required. It is recommended that an observer assist with
the operation to ensure there is no risk of collision with objects or danger to people
during the movement. If an over-current situation occurs, the motor will stop and a
continuous ‘beep’ will sound. Press the ‘Off’ button to reset the machine.
6.
Use remote control with a quick momentary button press to check the operation
and direction of wheel rotation to orientate the Forward and Reverse buttons with the
expected direction of travel of the Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel before
attempting to carry out full manoeuvring operation.
7.
Once the caravan or trailer is parked in the desired position, Optitec Wireless
Remote Control Wheel can be used in the same manner as a standard support
wheel (see Safety Note), however it is recommended that it not be exposed to the
weather for extended periods.
8. Using remote control unit, turn ‘off’power (#9) and disconnect the power supply as
soon as the caravan or trailer is parked to avoid accidental operation.
9. Apply the caravan or trailer parking brakes securely and use wheel chocks.

8
5. Quality Control
The main body of Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel is manufactured from high
quality steel. The wheel is aluminium alloy and the solid tyre is made of durable rubber.
The wireless frequency of the remote control unit is within the approved spectrum range
covered by Australian Standards. Each machine is fully tested prior to packing.
6. Service
Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel must be serviced by a competent service
person at least every two years to ensure it remains in perfect operating condition. It
should also be visually inspected carefully prior to every use to ensure all components
are secure and safe for operation.
7. Troubleshooting
If Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel is not working correctly, please check the
following:
1. Proper Installation: Check connection between Optitec Wireless Remote Control
Wheel and the caravan or trailer.
2. Power Supply: Check power supply source of Optitec Wireless Remote Control
Wheel to ensure it is 12V DC and the battery is fully charged and it is capable of
supplying 50 Amps. (Note: Some caravans don’t allow supply from house battery
back to Anderson plug).
3. Power Connection: Check the plug connection at Optitec Wireless Remote Control
Wheel to ensure it has been fitted properly. Check that no wiring has pulled out of its
connection points. Push the electrical plug securely into the socket on Optitec
Remote Controlled Wheel and check that the positive (+) and negative (-) cables are
correctly connected onto the terminals of battery or caravan or trailer power supply
with correct polarity. You must hear a “Beep” when power connects.
4. Wireless Remote Controller: Check the 9V battery of the remote control handset to
ensure it is fully charged. Ensure that the Red LED lights whilst any button is
pressed. (Note: The LED will ‘light’ at only 5V so it’s not an indication of the battery
condition so ensure battery is the full 9V).
8. Packing components
1. 1 x Optitec Wireless Remote Control Wheel unit.
2. 2 x Connection leads, (Anderson to Anderson Plug, Alligator to Anderson Plug).
