When using electrical applìances, basic safety precautions should always be foltowed,

for a quick meal anytime of the day.
Prepare waffles for breakfast or brunch and pile them high with fresh fruits, whipped cream
or just plain butter and warmed syrup.
Waffles can also make a tasty lunch or dinner with such recipes as Onion Waffles
with Tuna åla Kingtopping. Even desserts are more exciting with piping hot
Brownie Waffles topped with ice cream, sauce toppings, choppednuts and
whipped cream.
Your OSTE@ WAFFLE MAKER is thermostatically controlled to help you prepare waffles
to perfection. Your unit is portable so you can make waffles in your kitchen or right
at the table. The non-stick grids make clean-up easy and the waffle maker stands
on end for convenient storage. We know that you will love your new Ostep Waffle Maker.
It’s a great addition to any kitchen.
N OTE : The illustrations of Waffle Makers found ín this Instruction Manual do not
necessarily depíct the particular Model Waffle Maker that you have purchased.
If your Waffle Maker has only one light, it is a signal light.
Units equipped with auto-off provide a high level of safety not found
in normal WaffleMakers. During normal’operations, the “ON” light
will remain lit, indicating that power is available for heating of the
unit. After one hour the “ON” light will~ begin to flash. The flashing
light indicates that the unit has gone into auto-off mode. In auto-off
mode, the unit’s ability to heat is disabled. To reset your Waffle
Maker, simply unplug theunit, wait two seconds and reinsert plug
into wall outlet. The~“ON” light will stop flashing and the unit will
provide another hour of trouble-free cooking performance.

How TO USE YOUR OSTER” WAFFLE MAKER
PREPARING YOUR WAFFLE MAKER FOR USE
1. Open unit by lifting the upper handle.
2. Before using for the first time, clean cooking plates with~cloth or sponge, dampened
with hot, Soapy water. DO NOT IMMERSE UNIT IN WATER. Rinse~with dampened cloth
or sponge and wipe’dry.
3. When using for the first time, “season” the grids by rubbing lightly with cooking oil.
Should sticking occur in later usage, reseason your unit.

PREPARING WAFFLES
CAUTION: THE UNIT BECOMES H OT ! Only use handles during or directly after use.
Take care not to touch hotsurfaces.
The unit is ready for use when the Ready Light goes out
approximately 5-minutes.
Open unit and pour approximately 1/2 cup (125 ml) waffle
batter onto grids. For best iesults, pour batter in a circle
around outer edge of waffle maker. (See Illustration)
Glose cover. It isvery typical to have a small amount
of batter run over grid and down unit. lf an excessive
amount of batter runs over, use less batter.
Cover will rise slightty as waffles begin to bake. Do not open cover while steam
is escaping. Most waffle recipes bake in approximately 3 minutes.
Waffles are generallydone when steam no longer escapes
from sidesand front of unit.
5. When waffles are done, remove with a fork or wooden tongs.
Glose unit and plug into outlet Use only voltage specified on bottom of unit.
Signal/On Light will come on.
NOTE:THE Signal Lighfmay cycle on and off during cooking. This indicates that
the thermostat is maintaining the unit at the proper cooking temperature.
6. Close cover and wait for Signal/On light to go out before preparing another batch
of waffles.
CARE AND CLEANING
1. Unplug and allow unit to cool before eleaning.
2. Clean waffle grids with cloth or sponge dampened with hot. soapy water. DO NOT
IMMERSEUNIT IN WATER.
Rinse with dampened cloth or sponge and wipe dry.
3. To remove cooked-on foods, use a nylon scrub pad or non-abrasive cleanser.
A steel wool pad or abrasive cleaners will damage the non-stick surface.
4. Store in closed position. Unit stands on end for convenient storage.
Use cord wrap on the bottom of unit for cord storage.
5. Any servicing required should be performed only by an authorized service facility.

HINTS FOR TASTY WAFFLES
1. Do not over-mix waffle batter. Beating egg whites separately and folding them gently
into the batter surely will create a lighter, crispier waffle.
2. Completely bake waffles before removing from unit.
3. Don't open the Waffle Maker while steam is escaping from sides and front of the unit.
4. Extra-crisp waffles are produced.by baking waffles longer or by removing them
to a cooling rack for a few extra seconds before serving.
5. Why not freeze prepared waffles for those busy days ahead? Just bake the waffles
as directed. Cool on a wire rack and wrap in moisture-proof paper or plastic.
Quickly reheat in your toaster oven, broiler or microwave oven.

BLENDER CORNMEAL WAFFLES
Enjoy acrisp waffle that's prepared in seconds
1 egg (or equivalent 2 tsp. (10 ml) baking powder
3/4 cup (200 ml) milk* -2 tsp. (10 ml) sugar
1/4 cup (50 ml) vegetable oil 1/4 tsp. (1 ml) Salt
1 cup (250 ml) al!-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. (30 ml) cornmeal
*/ow-fat or skim milk may be used
Preheat Waffle Maker. Put all ingredients into blender container. Cover and process
ata medium-high speed until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not over-blend.
Pour l/2 cup (125 ml) batter over grids. Close Waffle Maker. Bake until steam
no longer escapes. about 3 -5minutes. Repeat. Serve while hot with warmed syrup.
YIELD: 4 WAFFLES
EXTRA-SPECIAL WHOLE WHEAT WAFFLES
Feed the gang with these at Sunday Brunch
1 cup (250 ml) milk*
3 eggs (or equivalent)
,l cup (250 ml) water
1 package (1/4 ounce or 7 g)
1/4 cup (50 ml) butter or rnargarine active dry yeast
1/4cup (50 ml) honey l-1/2
tsp. (7 ml) Salt
2-2/3 cups (650 ml) whole wheat flour
*low-fator Skim milk may be used
Heat milk, water,butter and honey at 120°F (48°C). In large mixing bowl,
combine flour, eggs. yeast, Salt and warmed milk mixture. Mix at low to moisten,
then medium-high for 1 minute. Cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight,
stirringoccasionally
PreheatWaffle Maker. Pour 1/2 cup (125 ml) over grids. Close waffle maker,’
bake until steam no longer escapes, about 3 - 4 minutes. Repeat.
Serve while hot with your favorite topping.

ONION WAFFLES
For a change of pace, serve your favorite creamed entrée
on tasty crisp onion-flavored waffles.
2 cups (500’ml) biscuit mix
3 Tbsp. (30 ml) vegetable oil
1 egg (or equivalent) 2 Tbsp. (30 ml)
dry onion soup mix
l-1/3 cups (325 ml) milk*
*low-fat or skim milk may be used
Preheat Waffle Maker. Put all ingredients into a large mixer bowl. Beat on Iow
until dry ingredients are moistened. Pour 1/2 cup (125 ml) batter over grids.
Close Waffle Maker, bake until steam no longer escapes, about 3-5 minutes.
Repeat. Serve while hot with Tuna à la King or any creamed entree.
YIELD: 5 WAFFLES
‘LIGHT ‘N CRISP WAFFLES
2 egg yolks
2 cups (500 ml) milk
2 cups (500 ml) all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp. (15 ml) baking powder
1/2 tsp. (2 ml) salt
1/3 cup (75 ml) oil
2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Preheat Waffle Maker. Put all ingredients, except egg whites. in a large mixer bowl.
Beat on Iow until moistened. Increase to medium, mix until smooth. By hand,
gently fold in beaten egg whites. Pour 1/2 cup(125 ml) batter over grids.
Close Waffle Maker, bake until steam no longer escapes, about,3-5 minutes.
Repeat. Serve while hot with your favorite topping.
YIELD: 8 WAFFLES
VARIATIONS
Pecan or Macadamia Nut Waffles: Sprinkle 1 Tbsp, (15 ml) finely chopped pecans
or macadamia nuts over preheated waffle grids. Pour 1/2 cup (125 ml) batter over nuts
and close Waffle Maker. Bake as directed.
Bacon Waffles: Cook bacon strips. Pour 1/2 cup (125 ml) batter over waffle grids.
lay 1 strip bacon, cuf in half. over batter and ctose Waffle Maker. Bake as directed.
Cheese Waffles:Fold in 1-1/2 cups (375 ml) shredded cheddar cheese into batler.
Bake as directed. Serve with syrup or your favorite creamed entrée.
Blueberry Waffles: Fotd 2 cups (500 ml) fresh blueberries into batter.
Pour 3/4 cup (200 ml) batter over grids. Bake until gotden.
Chocolate Chip Waff/es: Fotd 1 cup (250 ml) chocotale chips into batter. Bake as directed.

ALOHA DESSERT WAFFLES
A pretty dessert that is guaranteed to please your guests
8 prepared Macadamia NutWaffles
1 can (6 oz. or 170 g) frozen orange juice
(previouspage)
concentrate, thawed
1 cup (250 ml) sugar 1/2 cup (15 ml) flaked coconut
3 Tbsp. (45 ml) cornstarch 1/3 cup (75 ml) Maraschino cherries, chopped
1 can (8 oz. or 277 g) crushed 1/4 cup (60 ml) 150 Proof rum,
pineapple, drained reserving juice vanilla ice cream
cold water :
In a large saute pan, combine sugar and cornstarch. Measure pineapple juice and
enough cold water to equal 1-1/4 cups (300 ml). Combine water mixture, orange juice
and sugar mixture. Cook over medium heat until thickened. stirring constantly.
Add coconut, cherries and pineapple. Heat through. Keep warm on Iow heat.
Slowly pour rum over top qf mixture. Carefully ignite. Place a scoop of vanilla ice cream
over each waffle. Whenflamedies,spoon sauce over ice cream. Serve immediately.

CHOCOLATE BROWNIE WAFFLES
Here's a no-fuss dessert idea!
1/4 cup (50 ml) shortening or oil 1 Tbsp. (15
ml) baking powder
2/3 cup (150 ml) sugar 1 tsp. (1 ml) satt
2 squares (1 ounce or 28 g each)
l-1/4 cups (300 ml) milk
baklng chocolate, melted 1/2
tsp. (2 ml) vanilla
.3 egq yolks
1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped nuts
1-1/2 cups (375 ml) all-purpose flour 3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Preheat Waffle Mlaker. In a large mixer bowl. cream shortening and sugar at
medium-low unttl fluffy. Addchocolateand egg yolks. Beat well. Add milk
alternately with combined dry ingredients. Mix well. Add vanilla and nuts.
By hand,gentlyfold in beaten eggwhite. Pour 1/2 cup (125 ml) batter over orids.
Close Wafffe Maker andbakeuntil steam no longer escapes, about 3-5 minutes.
Waffle willcrisp as itcools. Repeat. Serve hot or cold with vanilla ice cream,
chocolate syrup and chopped~walnuts or pecans.

BELGIAN COOKIES
This recipe gives best results in the Belgian Waffle Maker
i cup (250 ml) butter or margarme 1/2 tsp. (2 ml) Salt
1 cup (250 ml) sugar 2 eggs (or equivalent)
1 Tbsp. (15 mi) vanilla 2-1/4 cups (550 ml) flour
Preheat Waffle Maker. Put butter and sugar in large mixing bowl. Cream together
on medium-low. Add vanilla and salt Increase speed to medium. Add eggs
for equivalent). Mix until smooth Decrease speed to low, add flour. Mix well.
Divide 3/4 cup batter into four portions and drop on each comer of the grids.
Close Waffle Maker. Bake until steam no longer escapes, about 3-5 minutes.
Carefully,remove from waffle maker with non-metal turner to wire rack. Allow waffles
to cool. Serve plain or with your favorite fruit filling and whipped cream.
YIELD: 4 WAFFLES
RICH BELGIAN-STYLE WAFFLES
Serve a speoial waffle for brunch or dessert
1 egg yolk 2 tsp. (10 ml) sugai
1 cup (250 ml) sour cream 1 tsp. (5 ml) baking powder
1/2 cup (125 ml) milk 1/2 tsp. (2 ml) salt

1/4 tsp. (1 ml) bakfng soda
1 cup (250 ml) flour 1 egg white, stiffly beaten
Preheat Waffle Maker. Put all ingredients, except egg whites, in a large mixer bowl.
Beat on low until moistened. Increase to medium, mix until smooth. By hand,
gently fold in beaten egg white. Pour a rounded 1/2 cup (125 ml) batter over grids.
Ctose Waffle Maker, bake until steam no longer escapes, about 3-5 minutes.
Repeat. Serve while hot with warmed syrup or Strawberries Romanoff.

BLUEBERRY SAUCE
A realtreat when fresh berries are in season.
Use frozen berries during the rest of the yea,:
1/4 cup (50 ml) butter or margarine 2’cups (500 ml) blueberries ,
1 cup (250 ml) sugar 2 Tbsp. (30 ml) lemon juice
1/4 tsp.(1ml)nutmeg
1 Tbsp. (15 ml) cornstarch
In a 2-quart (2 litre)saucepan, place butter, sugar, nutmeg and blueberries. Cook over low heat
about5 minutes combine lemon juice and cornstarch. Stir into blueberry mixture.
Continue to cook and stir until thickened. Serve warm over waffles or pancakes.
YIELD: 2-1/2 C UPS (625 ML)
HONEY BUTTER
1/2 cup (125 ml) butter or margarine, softened
2 Tbsp. (30 ml) honey
l/2 tsp. (2 ml) ground cinnamon
Mix together all ingredients until smooth. YIELD:
l/2 CUP (I25 ML)
STRAWBERRIES ROMANOFF
This is an elegant topping for a special brunch or dessert waffle.
1 cup (250 ml) whipping cream 1 N-ounce (454 g) carton frozen strawberries,
1/4 cup (50 ml) powdered sugar defrosted and well drained
Beatcream
untilthickened. Add sugar and continue to beat until still. Fold in strawberries.
YIELD: 2-1/2 CUPS (625 ML)
TUNA A LA KING
1 can(10-1/2 oz or,294 g) condensed 1 cup (250 ml) frozen peas
cream of mushroom soup, undiluted,
1 can (6-1/2ozor 182 g) tuna, drained
1 can (4 oz or 112 g) mushroom pieces,
drained
1 Tbsp. (15 ml) chopped pimento
l/4 tsp. (1 ml) paprika
1 cup (250 ml) sour cream
In a 2-quart (2 litre) saucepan, combine all ingredients except sour cream.
Simmer 5 minutes. Add
sour cream to mixture. heat through. Use l/2 cup (125 ml)
of’topping per waffle. Serve on Onion Waffles or your favorite plain waffle.
YIELD: 3 CUPS (750 ML)
