1. GENERAL
This pulse checker is designed for inspecting, adjusting and maintaining a wide variety of equipment
associated with pulse signals. It features two groups of functions - the input functions which include the
accumulation, frequency measurement, period measurement and gated accumulation of input pulses and
the output functions which include the digital selection of the reference frequency, frequency reduction
and output frequency programming by selecting % frequency reduction, the control of the number of
output pulses, as well as the selection of pulse width and generator type.
Despite these elaborate capabilities, this portable pulse checker is easy to use.
To derive maximum benefit from the instrument, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the
instructions contained in this manual.

4. DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTIONS
1. Power Functions
(1)“DC IN”connector…… Connects to the furnished AC adaptor.
(2)“POWER”switch …… Furnishes power to the circuitry when turned on. The Input and output counter
LEDs light up at the same time.
This checker operates on a two-way power supply system. When this switch is turned on with no
external power furnished through the ac adaptor, the instrument operates on internal batteries.
The batteries are of rechargeable type and good for about 5 hours of operation if fully charged in
24 hours. (Connected to an external power source through the ac adaptor, the batteries will be fully
charged in 24 hours with power switch off.)
When the battery terminal voltage drops below serviceable level, the input and output counter LCDs
begin to flicker.)
Although the checker is serviceable for 10 to 15 minutes with the LCDs flickering, it is recommended
that the batteries be recharged immediately or an ac power be furnished through the ac adaptor to
eliminate possible erratic operation.
The batteries should be replaced every year, although their life may vary depending on the given
operating conditions.
2. Input Functions
(1)“INPUT”terminals
“SIG” …… Input terminals to accept pulse signals with selectable trigger level.
“GATE”…… Input terminals to accept gate pulses.
Trigger level: 2.5V Hysteresis: 0.1V
Pulse width response: 1μs min.
Frequency response: 5Hz max.
“0V”: …… Common 0V line
(2)“INPUT LEVEL”Select Switch
This checker has no internal power supply for pulse generators. It therefore cannot drive directly the
pulse generators described in the“Receive Signal”columns above.
So, couple with other receiving instrument which has an internal power supply and pick up its signal only.
In case of PA04, 05, 45 or PG60A (E), it may be“6”depending on the position of picking up the signal.

(3)“FUNCTION”Select Switch
Selects“INPUT COUNTER”functions.
“COUNT” …… Accumulated total counter
Counts the number of incoming pulses at“SIG”terminals.
“FREQ 1S”…… Frequency counter with one second gate
Counts the number of incoming pulses at“SIG”terminals for a period of one
second →Displays it for one second →Reset to“0”. The cycle above is
repeated.
Unit of measure displayed on the counter …… “Hz”
“FREQ 10S” … Frequency counter with 10-second gate
Counts the number of incoming pulses at“SIG”terminals for 10 seconds →2
sec. hold displayed →“0”reset.
This cycle is repeated.
Unit of measure displayed on the counter …… “Hz”
“PERIOD”…… Period counter with 1MHz pulses
Counts the period of incoming pulses at“SIG”terminals against the 1MHz
internal pulses and displays it, latched.
Unit of measure displayed on the counter …… μs
“RATIO” …… Gated accumulated total counter
Counts the number of incoming pulses at“SIG”terminals at the intervals of
pulses incoming through“GATE”terminals and displays it, latched.
(4)“RESET”Pushbutton Switch
Upon depression, the“INPUT COUNTER”is reset to“0”.
(5)“INPUT COUNTER”
An 8-digit LCD accumulated total counter. Its functions are selectable with“FUNCTION”select switch.
3. Output Functions
(1)“FREQUENCY”Preset Switch
Establishes the reference frequency of output pulses with 4-digit decade switch.
Preset coverage: 1 to 9999Hz (in 1Hz steps)
(2)“RATING”Select Switch
Selects the decimal point of the“FREQUENCY”reference frequency.
“1” …… The decimal point of 4-digit decade switch is □□□□. Hz
“10” …… The decimal point of 4-digit decade switch is □□□.□Hz
“100”…… The decimal point of 4-digit decade switch is □□.□□ Hz
“1K” …… The decimal point of 4-digit decade switch is □.□□□ Hz
“10K”…… The decimal point of 4-digit decade switch is 0.□□□□ Hz
(3)“% SETTER”Select Switch
Selects % frequency reduction of the reference frequency.
“100”…… Provides the reference frequency output with the decimal point chosen as above.
“75” …… Provides the reference frequency output ×0.75 with the decimal point chosen as above.
“50” …… Provides the reference frequency output ×0.5 with the decimal point chosen as above.
“25” …… Provides the reference frequency output ×0.25 with the decimal point chosen as above.
“0” …… No output is provided.
(4)“PRESET”Switch
Presets the number of output pulses with 8-digit decade switch.
Upon“START”button depression, the checker produces the number of pulses preset before it
comes to stop pulse generation automatically.
Preset coverage: 1 to 99999999 P (in 1P steps)

E-935-1-E
(5)“START”Pushbutton Switch
The checker produces a pulse train of the frequency selected by the switches“FREQUENCY”,
“RATING”and“% SETTER”for the number of pulses selected by the“PRESET”switch upon button
depression.
The“OUTPUT COUNTER”counts the output pulses being produced and the green LED on this
button lights up, indicating“COUNTING”.
(6)“STOP”Pushbutton Switch
At touch of this button, pulse output may be interrupted before the number of pulses established by
the“PRESET”switch is reached.
While pulse generation is interrupted, the“STOP”red LED on this button lights.
(7)“RESET”Pushbutton Switch
Resets the“OUTPUT COUNTER”to zero upon actuation of the button. It is inhibited while the
green“COUNTING”LED is illuminated, however.
When the accumulated total count on the“OUTPUT COUNTER”has reached the“PRESET”count,
the checker shuts off pulse output generation automatically; a buzzer sounds for about 1.5 seconds
and the yellow“END”LED on the button comes on. It remains illuminated until this button is pressed.
[Operations Sequence Time Chart]
(8)“OUTPUT COUNTER”
Counts the number of output pulses with an 8-digit accumulated total counter.

The circuitry is so configured that definitely a single output pulse is always secured when the
“START”or“STOP”button is depressed at any state, any instant of signal pulses. Under no
circumstances, therefore, the checker produces spiky or otherwise distorted pulses.
CAUTION:

E-935-1-E
(9)“WIDTH”Select Switch

“OPTO” …… A simulated output of OPTO 01/02 generator circuit
“PG20” …… A simulated output of PG20M generator circuit
Coupling conditions are 30V dc and 20mA max. because it provides an open
collector output of transistors rather than a relay counterpart.

show the resistance values. (Examples: 100k→100kΩ, k5→.5kΩ)
Output frequency should be chosen within the conditions in brackets ( ) when you select a
particular fixed pulse width.
The ON/OFF ratio is 1/1 when the frequency is at maximum of the figure in the brackets ( ); the
OFF width becomes smaller progressively as the frequency exceeds that figure; at frequencies
twice that figure, or greater, pulses will overlap and no output will be produced: the "OUTPUT
COUNTER" will fail to count.
