SEG-X3 Smart Gateway
Quick Start Guide

1. Welcome
The SEG-X3 Smart Gateway acts as a central platform of your smart
home system. It allows you to add ZigBee devices into the system
and while at the same time could connect to the Internet so as to be
controlled by the SmartOWON mobile app.

“Z” button
Use the “Z”button to do the following:
Permit joining
Reset ZigBee network
Wi-Fi button
Use the Wi-Fi button to do the following:
Reset Wi-Fi network
Switch between cloud mode and AP mode
Open WPS mode

Use the reset button to do the following:
Restart gateway
Reset gateway

2.3.LED Indicator
The LED indicator status is as below:
LED status
What it means
Purple LED solid
Device Initialization/Searching for Wi-Fi
router.
Purple LED flashing
The SEG-X3 is in AP mode.
Orange LED flashing
1) The SEG-X3 has connected to the
router;
2) The SEG-X3 is in STA mode.
Blue LED solid
The SEG-X3 is in permit joining mode
which means that it allows other ZigBee
devices to join its network.
Blue LED flashing
The SEG-X3 is in cloud mode which means
that it has been connected to the cloud
server.
Orange LED and
blue LED flashing

3. Get started
To get started, you will at least need:
A SEG-X3 Smart Gateway
A Wi-Fi router that connects to the Internet, and know the SSID
and password of this router
A smartphone (Android phone or iPhone)
Then follow the steps below:
Step 1: Insert the SEG-X3 Smart Gateway into a general power outlet
(GPO). Turn it on, and wait for the LED light to turn purple flashing
(means gateway is in AP mode)
Tips: If the LED indicator is not in purple flashing status, please return
it to factory default settings by pressing and holding the reset button
for ten seconds.
Step 2: Turn on the WLAN of the Android phone and connect to the
Wi-Fi of the router
Step 3: Install the SmartOWON mobile app from Google “play store”
or Apple “App store”, Search “SmartOWON” in Google “play store”
or Apple “App store” and install this mobile app.

Step 4: Register an account
Follow the mobile app to register an account.

Step 5: Add devices to the smart gateway
Press “Z” button for two seconds until the LED indicator turns blue
solid. Then the SEG-X3 Smart Gateway will allow other devices to
join its network so that you could use the mobile app to control the
devices.
Tips: you could also tap the “Adding new devices” of the mobile app
to allow other ZigBee devices to join its network.

4. FAQ
Q1. How to reset the ZigBee network?
Note: if reset the ZigBee network, all the ZigBee device information
stored in the gateway will be removed so that you will need to rejoin
them into this gateway again.
A1: Press both the “Z” button and the reset button (use a pin key
tool) at the same time to reset the ZigBee network. If reset
successful, the LED indicator will flash in purple for five times.
Q2. How to reset the Wi-Fi network?
Note: if reset Wi-Fi network, all Wi-Fi history data will be cleared, but
the ZigBee devices will NOT be removed that you don’t need to rejoin
them into this gateway after you connect this gateway to your Wi-Fi
router.
A2: Press both the Wi-Fi button and the reset button (use a pin key
tool) at the same time to reset Wi-Fi network. If reset is successful,
the LED indicator will flash in purple for five times.
Q3. How to restart the SEG-X3 Smart Gateway?
A3: Use a pin key tool to press the reset button will restart this
gateway.
Q4. How to return the SEG-X3 Smart Gateway to default factory
settings?
Note: if return this gateway to default factory settings, all data
stored including ZigBee device information and Wi-Fi data in this
gateway will be removed.
A4: Use a pin key tool to press and hold the reset button for ten
seconds until the LED indicator flashes purple five times rapidly to
return the gateway to default factory setting.
Q5. How to add more smart home devices into the SEG-X3 gateway?

A5: Press the “Z” button until the blue LED indicator turns blue solid
will allow other ZigBee devices to join its network, then please set
the ZigBee devices on joining status by following the corresponding
user guides.
Tips: you could also tap the “Adding new devices” of the mobile app
to allow other ZigBee devices to join its network.
Q6. How can I use this system locally when the Internet is off
accidently?
A6: You don’t need to do anything, the system will switch to STA
mode that you could still be able to use it locally, but only when your
smartphone is connected the router that used to connect to the
SEG-X3 Smart Gateway.
Then after the Internet is on, the gateway will switch back to cloud
mode so that you could control it from anywhere at any time.
Q7. How can I use this system in the place that is not a Wi-Fi router?
A7: You could use it locally (currently only available for Android
version) if you don’t have a Wi-Fi router that could connect to the
Internet. The operation steps are as below:
Step 1: Connect your smartphone to the Wi-Fi hotspot of the SEG-X3
Smart Gateway which is started by “ZB” and end by the last six digits
of the SEG-X3 gateway MAC address.
Step 2: Open SmartOWON app and tap “Direct Link” at the left
bottom.
Then the app will connect to your system directly.
