Congratulations on purchasing an Ozito Orbital Sander.
We aim to provide quality tools at an affordable price.
We hope you will enjoy using this tool for many years.
Your Ozito Orbital Sander OSG-101 has been designed
for sanding timber and is intended for DIY use only.
Warning! When using mains-powered equipment, basic safety precautions,
including the following, should always be followed to reduce risk of fire,
electric shock, personal injury and material damage.
Read and understand the manual prior to operating this tool.
Save these instructions and other documents supplied with this tool for future
reference.
The electric motor has been designed for 230V and 240V only.. Always check that
the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
NOTE: The supply of 230V and 240V on Ozito tools are interchangeable for
Australia and New Zealand
This tool is double insulated in accordance with AS/NZS 3100: 2002;
therefore no earth wire is required.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an electrician or a power
tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard.
Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when
operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against injury
resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool.
Using an Extension Lead
Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool.
Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing.
Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective. When using an extension lead
on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use of an extension lead not suitable
for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a
risk of fire and electric shock.

1. Keep work areas clean. Cluttered work areas and benches can cause accidents.
2. Consider work area environment. Do not expose your tool to high humidity or
rain. Do not use your tool in damp and wet conditions. Keep the work area well lit.
Do not use your tool where there is a risk of causing fire or explosion, e.g. in the
presence of flammable liquids and gases.
3. Keep children away. Do not allow children, visitors or animals to come near the
work area or to touch the tool or power lead.
4. Dress appropriately. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery, as these can be
caught in moving parts. Preferably wear non-slip footwear when working outdoors.
Wear protective hair covering to keep long hair out of the way.
5. Head protection. Always use safety glasses. Use a face or dust mask whenever the
operations may produce dust or flying particles. Wear ear protection whenever the
sound level seems uncomfortable.
6. Guard against electric shock. Prevent body contact with earthed or grounded
surfaces (e.g. pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators). Electric safety can be further
improved by using a high sensitivity (30 mA / 30 mS) residual current device (RCD).
7. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
8. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate the
tool when you are tired.
9. Secure work piece. Use clamps or a vice to hold the work piece; it is safer as it
frees both hands to operate the tool.
10. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Always check that adjusting keys and
wrenches are removed from the tool before operating the tool.
11. Extension leads. Before use inspect the extension leads and replace if damaged.
When using the tool outdoors, only use extension leads intended for outdoor use
and marked accordingly.
12. Use appropriate tool. The intended use is described in this instruction manual.
Do not force small tools or attachments to do the job of a heavy duty tool.
The tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was intended.

with this tool other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present
a risk of personal injury.

13. Check for damaged parts. Before use carefully check the tool and power lead for
damage. Check for misalignment and seizure of moving parts, breakage of parts,
damage to guards and switches and any other conditions that may affect its
operation. Ensure that the tool will operate properly and perform its intended
function. Do not use the tool if any parts are damaged or defective. Do not use the
tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Have any damaged or defective parts
repaired or replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer. Never attempt any
repairs yourself.
14. Unplug the tool. Shut off the power and wait for the tool to come to a
complete standstill before leaving it unattended. Unplug the tool when it is not
in use, before changing any parts of the tool, accessories or attachments and
before servicing.
15. Avoid unintentional starting. Do not carry the tool with a finger on the on/off
switch. Make sure the tool is switched off when plugged in.
16. Do not abuse the cord. Never carry the tool by its cord or pull it to disconnect
from the socket. Keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
17. Connect dust extraction equipment. If devices are provided for the
connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure that these are
connected and properly used.
18. Store idle tools. When not in use, tools should be stored in a dry, locked up
or high place, out of reach of children.
19. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools clean and in good condition for better
and safer performance. Follow the instructions for maintenance and changing
accessories. Keep handles and switches dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
20. Have your tool repaired by an electrician or a power tool repairer. This
power tool complies with relevant safety requirements. To avoid danger,
electrical appliances must only be repaired by qualified technicians using
original spare parts; otherwise this may result in considerable danger to the user.
21. Users. This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirmed
persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure
that they do not play with this appliance.
22. Replacement of the supply cord. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be
replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard.
Unplug the sander before changing accessories. Accidental start-ups may occur
if the sander is plugged in while changing an accessory.
Disposing of dust. Be extremely careful of dust disposal, materials in fine particle
form may be explosive. Do not throw sanding dust on an open fire. Spontaneous
combustion, may in time, result from a mixture of oil or water with dust particles.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORBITAL SANDERS

Always wear eye protection and a dust mask for dusty applications and when
sanding overhead. Sanding particles can be absorbed by your eyes and inhaled easily
and may cause health complications.
Use special precautions when sanding chemically pressure treated timber, paint
that may be lead based, or any other materials that may contain carcinogens. A
suitable breathing respirator and protective clothing must be worn by all persons
entering the work area. Work should be sealed by plastic sheeting and persons not
protected should be kept out until work area is thoroughly cleaned.
Do not ‘wet sand’ with this sander. Liquids entering the motor housing are an
electrical shock hazard.
Do not use sandpaper intended for larger sanding pads. Larger sandpaper will
extend beyond the sanding pad causing snagging, tearing of the paper or kick-back.
Extra paper extending beyond the sanding pad can also cause serious lacerations.
Warning! Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other
construction activities contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or
other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
•Lead from lead-based paints
•Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products
•Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated timber
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of
work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area and
work with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that are specially designed
to filter out microscopic particles.

BEFORE ATTACHING OR REMOVING THE SANDPAPER
Attaching Sandpaper
Your sander has a base plate size of 110 x 100mm; to ensure the paper holds into the
paper clamps the paper size should be longer than the pad size (Approx 160 x 100mm)
The most effective way of purchasing paper is in bulk and cutting it to size.
•Soften the stiff sandpaper by pulling it over the 90º edge of a table or other
straight edge. Concentrate on softening the edges to be clamped.
• Release clamp by lifting up on the lever and disengaging it from the tab on the
base plate.
•Insert the edge of the sandpaper under the front paper clamp. Close the front
paper clamp and hook it into the lock position behind the tab on the baseplate.

• Wrap the sandpaper around the baseplate and insert under the opposite clamp
in the same way.
• If you are using the dust extraction facility, perforate the paper while it is on
the baseplate.
On/off Switch
This tool is equipped with a simple switch control. To turn on the tool depress the
“I” side of the switch. To turn the tool depress the “O” side of the switch.
Dust Extraction
With the dust extraction adaptor supplied you can attach the tool to most portable
vacuum cleaners. To utilise this facility, push the adaptor into the dust extraction
port at the rear end of the sander. Fit the vacuum hose in or over the adaptor,
depending on the hose size. (The sandpaper must be perforated exposing the
holes in the base to facilitate dust extraction)
Note: The dust extraction facility will only work when used with a vacuum cleaner
or dust extraction machine.
THIS PRODUCT IS NOT INTENDED FOR USE ON PLASTER. USING THIS
PRODUCT ON PLASTER WILL VOID THE WARRANTY.
Operation
To operate your sander, grasp it and turn it on (do not completely cover the air
vents with your hand). Move it in long, sweeping strokes along the surface to be
sanded, let the sander do the work. Pushing down on the tool while sanding,
actually slows the removal rate and produces an inferior quality surface. Be sure to
check your work often as this sander is capable of removing material rapidly,
especially with coarse paper.
Your sander is designed to sand flush on three sides and to sand in corners; its
small size and light weight make it ideal for overhead work.
The orbital action of your sander allows you to sand with the grain or at any angle
across it for most sanding jobs.
On the final steps a better finish will result if you sand with the grain.
To produce the best finish possible, start with coarse grit sandpaper and change
gradually to finer and finer paper. A final sanding with a piece of well worn fine
sandpaper will produce a professional looking finish that in many cases will need
no hand sanding at all.
When sanding painted surfaces, you may find the sandpaper loads up and clogs
with paint. A heat gun will work much better to remove paint before sanding.

Precautions to Take When Sanding Paint
Sanding of lead based paint is NOT RECOMMENDED due to the dangers of lead
poisoning. In dusty areas a dust mask should be worn.

•Keep the ventilation slots of the tool clean at all times. If possible prevent foreign
matter from entering the vents.
• After each use, blow air through the tool housing to ensure it is free from all dust
particles that may build up. Build up of dust particles may cause the tool to
overheat and fail.
• If the enclosure of the tool requires cleaning do not use solvents but a moist soft
cloth only. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the
tool into a liquid.
•When the carbon brushes wear out the tool will spark and/or stop. The brushes are
a wearing component of the tool and should be replaced prior to the carbon
wearing out full. Brushes will wear out after many uses but before they do take the
tool to an electrician or a power tool repairer for quick and low cost replacement.
Always replace both brushes at the same time.
Note: Ozito Industries will not be responsible for any damage or injuries caused by the
repair of the tool by an unauthorised person or by mishandling of the tool.
Environmental Safety
• Paint should be removed in such a manner as to minimize the amount of dust
generated.
• Areas where paint removal is occurring should be sealed with plastic sheeting.
• Sanding should be done in a manner to reduce tracking of paint dust outside
the work area.
Cleaning and disposal
• All surfaces in the work area should be vacuumed and thoroughly cleaned daily
for the duration of the sanding project. Vacuum filter bags should be changed
frequently.
• Plastic drop sheets should be gathered up and disposed of along with any dust
chips or other removal debris. They should be placed in sealed refuse
receptacles and disposed of through regular garbage pick-up procedures.
• During clean up, children and pregnant women should be kept away from the
immediate work area.
• All toys, washable furniture and utensils used by children should be washed
thoroughly before being used again.
