REMOTE AMPLIFIER ADAPTER
V-5335305
by
PagePac®
INTRODUCTION
The PagePac®Remote Amplifier Adapter pro-
vides a method of extending the speaker cover-
age of your PagePac paging system, by using an
additional PagePac 6 or AmpliCenter as a remote
amplifier at remote or off-site locations. Note that
the adapter can not be connected to a 70V output.
For example, the Remote Amplifier Adapter may
be connected to a voice coil speaker cable at the
beginning or at the end of the cable run as appro-
priate. If used at the end of the run, the Adapter
modular cord (P2) is connected to the PAGE
INPUT Jack (J1) on the “remote” unit. If used at
the start of the run, four wires are used to connect
the remote amplifier. The page signals from the
primary unit are now available from the remote
unit. Adapters may also be used with systems that
provide talkback and zone paging. Music is avail-
able to the remote unit from the main unit only if
the Remote Amplifier Adapter is connected to the
music input of the remote unit.

INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT! Refer to Secondary Circuit Protec-
tion Information.
The Remote Adapter has been designed to
connect voice coil outputs (3.4 volt system) to
PagePac 6 or D-Series AmpliCenter units which
are located in separate buildings or when the units
are separated by 2,000 feet or more. To accom-
modate the potential power loss of large dis-
tances, the output of the Remote Amplifier
Adapter is 7 db “hotter” than the “PAGE INPUT” of
the remote D-Series Amplicenter. When connect-
ing two D-Series Amplicenter units, which are
within the same building or within 2,000 feet of
each other, the remote PagePac may be over-
driven by the first. To alleviate this potential prob-
lem a 200 Ohm 1/4 watt resistor has been
included with each Remote Amplifier Adapter
attached to the “R” (Ring terminal. Attach this
resistor across the “T” and the “R” (Tip and Ring)
terminals when the two PagePac 6 or D-Series
Amplicenter units are within the same building (or
are located less than 2,000 feet from each other).
The 200 Ohm resistor should not be attached
when the remote Amplicenter is in another build-
ing or further than 2,000 feet from the first Ampli-
center.
To install a Remote Amplifier Adapter, make the
connections shown in Figure 1. A description of
the screw-type terminals located on the adapter is
provided in Table 1.

SECONDARY CIRCUIT
PROTECTION
Important Information
This equipment is for use on telephone wiring
containing a secondary circuit protector. This pag-
ing equipment requires a Secondary Circuit Pro-
tector where applicable (see Figure 2).
The secondary circuit protector must be located
between the primary protector and the paging
equipment. Refer to the Safety Information below.
Safety Information
• The Secondary Circuit Protector is used when
connecting paging equipment directly to
telephone lines that may be exposed to high
voltage power lines.
• Never install telephone wiring during a lightning
storm.
• Never install telephone jacks in wet locations
unless the jack is specifically designed for wet
locations.
• Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or ter-
minals unless the telephone line has been dis-
connected at the network interface.
• Use caution when installing or modifying tele-
phone lines.
• Use applicable Valcom approved device.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
When calling, have a VOM and a telephone test

Adapter Terminal Description
+
-
These terminals provide a voice-coil speaker output from the primary Amplicenter or
ZoneMate. Speakers may be connected to these terminals or these terminals can be used
as your input to the Remote Amplifier Adapter when an RCA cable is not used to connect
to the primary PagePac.
C
C1
Terminals C and C1 are control leads for the remote AmpliCenter or PagePac 6. They
are shorted to switch the remote unit to the page mode. C and C1 may be connected to the
same dry contact closure used for the primary AmpliCenter, or they may be jumpered to
hold the remote unit in the page mode.
T
R
These are auxiliary tip and ring connections, and may be used to monitor the tip and ring
input to the remote unit.

CAUTION: Cord P1 must never be connected to the 70 volt
output (Jack J4) on the primary Amplicenter, doing so may result
in damage to the Remote Amplifier Adapter.
