Cardboard
Cardboard comprises up to 75% of the packaging in your Panasonic TV and all of our
cartonsaremanufacturedwithoptimumlevelsofrecycledfibre.
1. Reuse
Cartonscanbereadily folded and packed flat for storage and made up whenrequiredforlateruse.
2. Recycling
If you, or someone else has no further use for the carton, it can be flattened or cut up
andplacedinto the recycle bin or service providedbyyourlocal council (applicable for
most parts ofAustralia).
Byrecyclingthecardboardyouarebenefiting the environment by reducing
wastetolandfillandreducingthedependenceonvirginforesttimbersforpaperfibre.
Plastics
Panasonic is reducing the number of different plastics used in both theTelevision and its packaging.
Unfortunately you are unable to include the type of plastic used in Television packaging in the curbside-
recycling program. Polystyrene foam and other plastic will need to be placed in your general waste bin.

Warning
Thistelevision is very heavy(please see page39). Most of the weightis at the frontof the television.Although
thetelevisionhas been tilt tested and meets currentAustralianandInternational Standards,werecommend
thatgreatcare be taken when positioning thetelevision.
* Do not allow the front of the set to overhang the stand or cabinet.
* Make sure that the stand or cabinet is flat and does not lean forward.
* Do not allow anyone to climb or sit on the television.
* Donotplace any heavy weights on the television.
Owner ID
Thistelevision lets you to proveownershipby letting you enter personalidentification into it. The “OwnerID”
function allows you to enter a security code and address information so that in the unfortunate event of theft it
will help the Police to determine the owner. Details of setting the Owner ID are on page 29.
Note: Do not record your PIN in this book.
As a further security precaution, please retain your proof of purchase along with these operating instructions.
Space has been made available on page 36 of this instruction book for recording the Serial Number. The
Serial Number can be found on the back cover of the set and on the packing carton.
“Progressive” Video Input
TheTX-76PW60AandTX-66PW60A are designed for “Interlaced”signals only.Make sure thatyourSettop
box, DVD player etc. is not switched to“Progressive”.
TheTX-86PW155AandTX-76PW155AaredesignedtoacceptInterlacedand Progressive signals.
Programme Location Numbers
Throughoutthis booklet “Programme Location Numbers” arereferredto. These are memory locations into
which you can tune television broadcast stations.Any television station can be tuned into any Programme
LocationNumber.
Picture Quality
Alltelevisionsare affected by Magnetic Interference.
Magnetic interference may come from such things as unshielded motors,
moving the TV while it is switched ON, turning off a vacuum cleaner too
close to the TV, lightning strikes nearby or many other things.
Theinterference shows up as coloured patcheswhich appearwhile the TV
is switched ON.
A typical result may look like the picture shown.
∗Your PanasonicTelevision is designed to overcome this with the inclusion of a demagnetising
(degaussing)function.
∗To activate this feature, simply switch yourTelevision OFF, or into Standby for 30 minutes and then
switch it back ON.
∗Ifthe television is tobe left unattended forextended periods (several daysor more), turn the power off to
theunit. DO NOT leavein Standbymode.

Getting Started
Connect the Aerial
TheRF (Aerial) Input impedanceof this television is75Ω.Ifyouraerial lead is 300Ωribbon (two wires
separated by a flat plastic strip) you will require a 300Ω/75ΩBalun (not supplied) in order to connect your
aerial to the television.
Note:
For your safety any external aerial should be installed by a reputable qualified installer and should comply with
AustralianStandardAS1417.1.
InNewZealandtheinstallation should comply withInternationalStandardIEC597-1.1.
Connect the Power Plug
Thetelevisions are designed for theAustralian StandardMainsVoltage of 240V 50Hz andtheNewZealand
StandardMainsVoltageof230V50Hz.
NOTE:
If the television is not going to be used for an extended period, remove the power plug from the wall outlet.
Turn on the Television
Push the Power Switch to turn the television ON. Sit back and enjoy your new Panasonic television.

Battery Installation and Replacement
Open Battery Cover
Place your thumb on the battery cover triangle.Apply a slight downward pressure with the thumb and slide the
coverback.Thisallowsthecovertoberemoved.
Insert Batteries
Insert the batteries ensuring the correct polarity. The polarity is identified by the “ + “ symbol on the battery and
the “ + “ and “ - “ symbols on the battery compartment. The springs inside the battery compartment connect to
thenegativeterminalofthebattery. Two “AA” size batteries
Replace Battery Cover
Fit the battery cover and slide it forward until it “clicks” into place.

∗Do Not userechargeablebatteries.Differencesinsize and performance may cause incorrect operation.
∗Do Not mix battery types (Alkaline with zinc-carbon etc.)
∗Do Not mix old and new batteries. Replace both batteries at the same time.

Remote Control Television Operation
BUTTON WHAT IT DOES
STANDBY
The remote control button is used to turn the television into Standby mode. When
the television is in Stand-By it is possible to turn it back on by pressing this remote
controlPowerButton,the Programme Number UP or DOWN Button (front panelor
remotecontrol)or any of the direct Programme NumberButtons.
PICTURE
This button is used to select the picture menu. Please refer to page 14 for detailed
operatinginstructions.
SOUND
This button is used to select the sound menu. Please refer to page 15 for detailed
operatinginstructions.
SET UP
This button is used to select the set up menu. Please refer to page 16 for detailed
operatinginstructions.
RECALL
Pressing this button will display all current active functions. Pressing the button
again cancels the recall function and removes the text being displayed on the
screen. If the button is not pressed within about 2 seconds it automatically
switchestodisplay the Programme Number or theAVNumberandtheOff-Timer
setting. Pressing the button again cancels the recall function and removes the text
beingdisplayed on the screen.
Therecallbutton also allows you to changechannel.Thecoloured buttons are used
to select the channel range.
Use the UP and DOWN buttons to highlight the channel you want and press the
Blue button. The TV will switch to the selected channel. Use the Red and Green
buttonsto select a different range ofchannels.
DIRECT TV RECORD
Allowsimmediate recording of theprogramme currently on the screen.(This
functiononly works with a“Q-Link” compatible video recorder.See page 17.
AMBIENCE
Thisbutton switches the ambience (surroundsound) on and off.
ASPECT
This button is used to move through the different aspect options ofAUTO, 16:9,
14:9, 4:3, Zoom 1, Zoom 2, Zoom 3. Please refer to page 19.
C(DIRECTCHANNELSELECTION)
To directly access broadcast channel numbers, press the C Button followed by the
two digits required (e.g. C02, C28 etc).

Remote Control Television Operation
BUTTON WHAT IT DOES
MULTI WINDOW (TX-86PW155A & TX-76PW155A only)
This option allows you to watch:
* a television picture and anAV picture at the same time, or
* twoAV pictures at the same time.
Pressing this button will access the Picture in Picture options. You can choose
between normal, PIP (Picture In Picture) or PAP(PictureAnd Picture).
TheMultipip function does notoperatewhen you are usingaProgressive signal. If
you are already in Multipip mode and you select anAV input with a Progressive
signalthe message “progressive input”will be displayed.
PIP (Picture In Picture) Mode
Allows a small picture to be viewed inside the
mainpicture.
The red button allows you to place the small
picture in any corner of the main picture.
PIP is only available in widescreen modes.
POP (Picture Out of Picture) Mode
Allows a small picture to be shown alongside
the main picture.
POP is only available in 4:3 mode.
PAP(PictureAnd Picture) Mode
Allows two equal sized pictures to be viewed at
the same time. The pictures will be shown side
by side.
The green button allows you to change the sub picture.
The Yellow button lets you swap between the two pictures.
Changing channels in MULTI WINDOW mode
When the On-Screen display (coloured boxes) is ON, the sub picture can be
changed. Use the Green button to switch between each of the 4AV inputs and the
RFinput.
When the On-Screen display (coloured boxes) is OFF, the main picture can be
changed. Use the normal programme orAV select buttons.
NORMALISATION
The Normalisation Button is used to reset the television picture and sound settings
to factory set levels. Make sure that the Picture and Sound Menus not displayed
when the N Button is pressed.
STR
The STR (Store) button is used with a number of features to store settings after
adjustments have been made or options have been set. It is also used in
TELETEXTandtuningfunctions.

Remote Control Television Operation
BUTTON WHAT IT DOES
HELP
Pressing this button displays on screen instructions on how to adjust various
settings and how to connect external equipment. Press the HELP button and
select one of the options. Please refer to page 13.
SOUND MUTE
Pressing this button reduces the sound from the television to nil. Pressing the
button again returns the sound to the original setting. Pressing the Volume
Up ( + ) or Down ( - ) will also restore the volume level setting.
PROGRAMME NUMBER UP AND DOWN
Pressing this button selects the next higher ( /\ ) or lower ( \/ ) Programme Number
in sequence.
VOLUME DOWN AND UP
This button is used to increase ( + ) or decrease ( - ) the volume output level from
thetelevision.
TV /AV
Pressing theTV/AV Button will cycle betweenTV, the currentAV Input and back to
TV. While the AV indicator is still on screen the differentAV inputs can be selected
using the coloured buttons.
COLOURED BUTTONS
Thesebuttons are used for:
- selectingdifferent aspect ratios
- selectingdifferentAVinputs
- teletextfunctions
STILL
Press this button to freeze the picture on the screen. Press it again to return to
normalviewing.
If Multi Pip has been selected, pressing the Still button once will freeze the main
picture while the sub picture remains normal. Pressing the Still button again will
freeze the sub picture while the main picture returns to normal. Pressing the Still
button for a third time will return both pictures to normal.
DIRECT PROGRAMME NUMBER SELECTION
Single Digit Programme Numbers (0 to 9) can be accessed directly by pressing the
correspondingnumberontheRemote Control Transmitter.
TWO DIGIT PROGRAMME NUMBER SELECTION
To directly access Programme Numbers 10 to 99, press the “- / - -” Button followed
by the two digits required. For example, to select Programme Number 12:

Pressing the Normal ( ) Button on the remote control, will return all picture settings to the factory preset
levels.This is called “Normalisation”.
Normalisation will only occur if the Picture Menu is not displayed when the Normal ( ) Button is pressed.

1. You can change the levelfor each function (Contrast,Brightness, Colour, Sharpness andTint) for each picture
menuoption.
2. Picture menu levels can be set forTV, AV1,AV2,AV3 andAV4 modes.
3. TINTonly appears when the TV is receiving NTSC signals and the television is in theAV mode.
4. In TELETEXT mode, only the CONTRAST will bedisplayed.

The Viewing mode control allows you to change the Picture setting between Dy-
namic,Normal and Cinema.
Dynamic For viewing in brightly lit rooms. This menu selects higher than normal
levelsof Brightness and Contrast.
Normal Forviewinginnormal(evening lighting) environments. This menu selects
thenormal levels of BrightnessandContrast.
Cinema Forviewing in a darkroom. This menu selectsreduced levels of
Brightnessand Contrast.
Increaseor decrease the levelof these options to suityour personal preference.
The Colour balance control allows you to change the White balance setting between
Standard,Warmand Cool.
The P-NR (Picture Noise Reduction) system is designed to reduce picture noise
during poor quality reception conditions. Pushing the left or right buttons will change
the setting between Off, Strong, Weak andAuto.

televisionspeakers so that everyone canenjoy listening at a levelcomfortable for
them.
When in PiP, the sound corresponds to the main picture.
Switches between Stereo and Mono. During times of poor reception it is recom-
mended that the MPX be switched to mono.
Switches between MUSIC and SPEECH settings.
MUSIC Amplifiesthe low frequencies andoutputs optimum sound. Usedfor
music programmes, video clips, action movies etc.
SPEECH Human voices (middle pitch sounds) will be more clear. Used for
News broadcasts etc.

Set Up Menu
Allows you to select which audio / video source will be sent to theAV2
Scartoutput. Youcan choose betweenTV (current selected programme),
AV1,AV3,AV4 or Monitor (whatever programme is being shown onthe
screen). YUV pictures are not available onAV2 out.
This control allows you to change between TOP (or FLOF) and List modes.
TOPmodeisthe current preferred method inAustralia.
FLOFmodeis the current preferred method in NewZealand.FLOFis also
knownasFASTEXT.
TheOff-Timerturnsthetelevision off after a period of time chosen by you.
The timer settings (in minutes) are OFF, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90.
This activates motion compensation to smooth the image and get rid of
unwantedpicturemovement.
This feature allows you to adjust the input level from your DVD player etc.
to match the sound level of normal TV reception.You can set the input
levelforeachAVinput.
Allows you to turn the Q-Link system On or Off. Please refer to page 17.
Thisprovidesaccess to many other features including tuning options and
OwnerID.Pleasereferto page 23.
If you notice a slight tilt in the picture or if there are coloured patches at
the corners of the screen, use this feature to eliminate them.
Refertopage 18 for instructions on using the geomagneticcorrection
adjustment.

Setup Menu - Q-Link
Q-Link allows the television to communicate with a compatible VCR.
For Q-Link communication to work, the TV must be connected to a “Q-Link” compatible VCR using a “fully
wired” Scart cable between the AV2 socket of the television and the appropriate socket on your VCR.
For connection to the appropriate Scart socket on the VCR, refer to your VCR operating instruction book.
In order to make use of Q-Link, ensure that the Q-Link option is set to On in the SETUP menu:

Confirm Q-Link option is set to On
Press the TV/AV button at any time to
go back to watchingTV.
Pressthe DIRECT TV RECbutton
Notes:
If the VCR is off, it will automatically switch on when you press the DIRECT TV REC button.
To ensurecorrect recordings are made, thetelevisionand VCR should share tuninginformation.
Whenever theAuto setup function is used, tuning data will be downloaded to the VCR.
If at any time you wish to turn off the Q -Link feature, follow the above procedure to get to the Q-Link menu
option, then set the option to Off.
A message, sent from the VCR, will appear on screen showing what is being recorded, or if it is not possible to
record.
Notes:
WithPanasonic Q-Link VCRs these additionalfeaturesare available:
If you insert a tape in your VCR and press the Play button, the television will automatically switch on
and select the AV2 input so you can view the tape.
If you switch off the television whilst the VCR is in Stop, Fast Forward or Rewind modes, the VCR will
switch off automatically.
If Q-Link is inoperative, first confirm that your SCARTlead is a full function type.Ask your dealer for further
details.
This TV will also communicate with other VCRs that bear the following logos:
“DATALOGIC” - (atrademarkofMetzCorporation).
“Easy Link” - (atrademarkofPhilipsCorporation).
“Megalogic” - (atrademarkofGrundigCorporation).
“SMARTLINK” - (atrademarkofSonyCorporation).
These VCR’s may support some or all of the above functions. Refer to your VCR operating instruction book.

Setup menu - Geomagnetic Correction
Magnetic interference may come from such things as unshielded motors, moving the TV while it is switched
ON, turning off a vacuum cleaner too close to the TV, lightning strikes nearby or many other things. If
geomagnetic changes cause colour patches on the screen switch your Television OFF for 30 minutes and then
switch it back ON.
Slight tilting of the picture may be noticeable or coloured patches may sometimes appear at the corners of the
screen(colourpurity).
The Geomagnetic Correction feature can be used to eliminate some interference problems.
Adjustment for geomagnetic should be performed every time the location of the TV is changed.
In some cases colour patches will not be completely eliminated even after adjustment, particularly in
ferroconcrete buildings and other structures susceptible to geomagnetic effects. In these cases the TV
location will have to be changed.
Using the Front Panel
Push the F button repeatedly to

This option determines the best aspect ratio to use to fill your screen. If Auto
detects a widescreen signal it switches into the appropriate 16:9 or 14:9
widescreen mode. A 4:3 picture will be stretched at the edges to fill the whole
screen.
16:9
This option will display a true 16:9 (anamorphic) picture with no aspect distortion.
14:9
This option will display a 14:9 letterbox or 4:3 picture with no aspect distortion.
4:3
This option will display a standard 4:3 picture with no aspect distortion.
Zoom1
This option will display 16:9 letterbox or 4:3 pictures with no aspect distortion.
Zoom2
This option will display 16:9 anamorphic letterbox pictures as a full screen display
with no aspect distortion.
Zoom3
This option will display 21:9 letterbox pictures as a full screen display with no
aspect distortion.
Notes:
- If, in Auto mode, you experience problems with the screen display size when playing back widescreen
format recordings from your VCR then it is possible that the tracking control of your VCR requires
adjustment (your VCR instruction book will contain adjustment details).
- Thewidescreenaspectratiosofdifferent filmsandprogrammescan vary.Iftheseare widerthana
standard 16:9 aspect picture then a black band may be visible at the top and bottom of the screen.

Teletext Operation
Teletextisonly available on certain broadcast channels.Thetime taken to display thepagesand sub-pages is set
by the teletext transmitter and not by the television.
Teletext is also used for Closed Captioning of television programmes. Captions are used by people who are
deaf,hearingimpaired, learning English or viewing inanoisyenvironment.
Captionsdifferfromforeignlanguagesubtitlesinthattheyarecolouredandpositionedtoindicatewhoisspeaking,
and provide information on music and sound effects which may be crucial to the understanding of the program.
Closed captions can be found on Teletext Page 801.
TOP (Table Of Pages)mode
InTOPTEXT mode, the red buttonmovesto the previous page numberandthe green button moves tothenext
page number. The yellow and blue buttons correspond to different subjects. These subjects can be accessed by
Pushingthe coloured button.This is thecurrent preferred method ofoperation inAustralia.
FLOF(FullLevelOneFeatures)mode
In FLOF mode, four differently coloured subjects are displayed at the bottom of the screen. To access more
information about one of these subjects, push the corresponding colour coded button on the remote control.
Thisisthe current preferred method of operation in NewZealand.
List mode
In List mode, four different coloured page numbers are shown at the bottom of the screen. Each of these
numbers can be altered and stored in theTV’s memory.These coloured page numbers correspond to the colour
coded buttons on the remote control.
