Il feedback controller P8024-B e' un apparecchio in grado di ridurre gli
effetti della retroazione acustica diffusore-microfono (meglio conosciuto
come effetto Larsen), attenuando le frequenze di innesco del fenomeno;
tale fenomeno e' tipico dei sistemi di diffusione sonora vincolati ad avere
i microfoni posti nello stesso campo di azione dei diffusori (ad es. chiese,
sale congressuali). Allo scopo, l'apparecchio possiede quattro filtri elimina-
banda con regolazioni indipendenti di frequenza centrale ed attenuazione,
per poter essere agevolmente centrati sulle frequenze di innesco;
particolare non trascurabile di tali filtri e' la larghezza di banda eliminata
pari ad 1/6 di ottava, abbastanza stretta da alterare solo in minima parte
la risposta in frequenza del sistema ma sufficientemente larga da
consentire un'agevole centratura del filtro sulla frequenza di innesco.
La messa a punto dell'apparecchio e' agevolata dal display che fornisce
lo spettro del segnale in uscita suddiviso in otto bande di frequenza.
Ecco elencate le principali caratteristiche dell'equalizzatore:
 Quattro filtri elimina-banda ad 1/6 di ottava;
 Regolazione della frequenza centrale tra 60 Hz e 6 kHz suddivisa in due
range;
 Attenuazioni dei filtri regolabili tra 0 e 20 dB;
 Interruttore di by-pass per poter verificare l'efficacia della messa a punto;
 Visualizzazione dello spettro del segnale di uscita su otto bande;
 Segnali di ingresso e di uscita bilanciati;
 Selettore protetto per l'alimentazione di rete a 115 V o 230 V c.a.
P8024-B feedback controller is a piece of equipment capable of reducing
the effect of acoustic feedback between a loudspeaker and a microphone
(better known as the Larsen effect), by attenuating the frequencies at
which this phenomenon is triggered. It is a typical phenomenon in sound-
broadcasting systems subjected to the constraint of having the
microphones positioned within the same range as the loudspeakers (e.g.
churches, congress halls, etc.). To this end, the equipment has four band-
elimination filters with independent adjustment of their central frequencies
and attenuation, so that they can be easily centred on the triggering
frequencies. A far from negligible feature of these filters is the bandwidth
that is eliminated, equal to about one sixth of an octave. This is sufficiently
narrow to alter the frequency response of the system only to a minimum
extent, but sufficiently broad to enable easy centring of the filter on the
triggering frequency. The display indicating the spectrum of the output
signal, split up into eight frequency bands, makes it easier to set the
equipment.
Following is a list of the main specifications of the equipment:
 Four band-elimination filters, one sixth of an octave each;
 Adjustment of the centre frequency between 60 Hz and 6 kHz, split up
into two ranges;
 Attenuation of the filters adjustable between 0 and 20 dB;
 By-pass switch for enabling the effectiveness of the set-up to be checked;
 Display of the spectrum of the output signal on eight bands;
 Balanced input and output signals;
 Protected selector switch for mains power at 115 V or 230 V AC.

GENERAL WARNINGS2AVVERTENZE GENERALI
2.1 INSTALLAZIONE
Tutti gli apparecchi PASO sono costruiti nel rispetto delle più severe
normative internazionali di sicurezza ed in ottemperanza ai requisiti della
Comunità Europea.
Per un corretto ed efficace uso dellapparecchio è importante prendere
conoscenza di tutte le caratteristiche leggendo attentamente le presenti
istruzioni ed in particolare le note di sicurezza.
Durante il funzionamento dellapparecchio è necessario assicurare
unadeguata ventilazione. Evitare di racchiudere lapparecchio in un mobile
privo di aerazione o di tenerlo in prossimità di sorgenti di calore. Questo
apparecchio è predisposto per il montaggio in mobile rack standard 19.
2.2 ALIMENTAZIONE
IMPORTANTE!
Lapparecchio è predisposto di fabbrica per il funzionamento con
tensione di rete a 230 V ± 10% 50/60 Hz (è comunque possibile anche
il funzionamento a 115 V ± 10% 50/60 Hz).
La modifica della tensione di alimentazione avviene tramite il selettore
[8], protetto dall'apposita copertura.
E prevista, in alternativa, la possibilità di alimentare lapparecchio con
una tensione continua esterna di 24V.
Lapparecchio é corredato di cavo di alimentazione con filo di terra ed il
relativo terminale sulla spina di rete non deve essere rimosso in alcun
caso. Assicurarsi che la presa di corrente sia dotata di collegamento di
terra a norma di legge.
2.3 NOTE DI SICUREZZA
La rimozione del coperchio dell'apparecchio presenta il rischio di scosse
elettriche. Ogni intervento all'interno dell'apparecchio deve essere
eseguito da personale specializzato. All'interno non esistono regolazioni
per l'utente. Prima di procedere alla sostituzione dei fusibili, accertarsi
di avere staccato il cavo di rete.
La sostituzione deve essere effettuata con fusibili dello stesso tipo e
valore. Non rimuovere mai il conduttore di terra dal cavo di rete.
Ad evitare il pericolo di scosse elettriche o guasti, non introdurre oggetti
specialmente se metallici, attraverso le aperture dell'apparecchio.
Nel caso di accidentale caduta di liquidi sull'apparecchio, staccare
immediatamente la spina di rete ed interpellare il centro di assistenza
PASO più vicino.
IMPORTANTE!
La PASO declina ogni responsabilità per danni a cose e/o persone
derivanti dall'uso non corretto dell'apparecchio o da procedure non
rispondenti a quanto riportato sul presente libretto.
2.1 INSTALLATION
All PASO equipment is manufactured in accordance with the most stringent
international safety standards and in compliance with European
Community requisites.
In order to use the equipment correctly and effectively, it is important to
be aware of all its characteristics by reading these instructions and in
particular the safety notes carefully.
While the equipment is working, it is necessary to provide adequate
ventilation.
The equipment must not be closed inside cabinets without ventilation or
kept in the vicinity of sources of heat.
This equipment has provisions for mounting in a standard 19" rack.
2.2 POWER SUPPLY
IMPORTANT!
The equipment is factory set for operation at a power-supply voltage of
230 V ± 10% 50/60 Hz (operation at 115 V ± 10% 50/60 Hz is also
possible).
The power-supply voltage is changed by means of the selector provided
for this purpose [8], protected by a lid.
As an alternative, it is possible to supply the apparatus with an external
continuous voltage of 24V.
The equipment is supplied with its own power supply cable which has an
earth wire, and the associated terminal on the mains plug should never be
removed in any case. Make sure that the power outlet is fitted with an
earthing connection in accordance with the law.
2.3 SAFETY NOTES
Removal of the lid of the equipment entails the risk of electric shocks.
Any activities inside the equipment should be carried out by specialised
personnel only.
There are no adjustments to be made by the user inside the equipment.
Make sure that the power cable has been disconnected before proceeding
to change the fuses.
When replacing the fuses use new fuses of the same type and rating.
Never remove the earth wire from the power cable.
To avoid the danger of electric shocks or failures, do not introduce any
objects, particularly not metal objects, into the openings in the equipment.
If any liquid is accidentally spilt on the equipment, unplug it immediately
from the mains and contact the nearest PASO Service Centre.
IMPORTANT!
PASO will not accept any liability for damage to property and/or persons
arising out of incorrect use of the equipment or of procedures that do not
comply with the instructions provided in this booklet.

3.2 COLLEGAMENTI
Il feedback controller P8024-B offre all'utente la possibilità di scegliere,
a seconda delle esigenze, tra un tipo di collegamento bilanciato ed uno
sbilanciato tramite spinotti jack 1/4. Nelle figure seguenti vengono
illustrate entrambi le possibilita' di connessione.

3.1 ESEMPIO DI INSTALLAZIONE
Il feedback controller P8024-B è tipicamente posto dopo il routing del
segnale ed immediatamente prima delle unita' di potenza, in modo da
sfruttare appieno le caratteristiche di distorsione e rapporto S/N del
segnale di uscita. Il posizionamento dell'apparecchio all'interno della
catena di diffusione è illustrato nella figura 3.1.1.

3.1 EXAMPLE OF INSTALLATION
Typically, the P8024-B feedback controller is positioned after the signal
routing and immediately before the booster units, so as to exploit in full
the distortion and S/N ratio specifications of the output signal.
Positioning of the equipment within the broadcasting chain is illustrated
in Figure 3.1.1.
3.2 CONNECTIONS
The P8024-B feedback controller provides the user with the possibility
of choosing, depending on the specific requirements, between a balanced
and an unbalanced type of connection by means of 1/4 jacks.
Both options for connection are illustrated in the following figures.

3.3 PRINCIPIO DI FUNZIONAMENTO
Il cuore dell'apparecchio e' formato dai quattro filtri a variabili di stato
con larghezza di banda pari ad 1/6 di ottava connessi nella configurazione
elimina-banda (notch filter) ad 1/6 di ottava, con regolazioni indipendenti
di sintonia e di attenuazione; questi filtri consentono di eliminare le
frequenze di risonanza di un ambiente che danno luogo al fenomeno di
retroazione acustica tra microfono e diffusore.
A completamento delle funzioni dell'apparecchio illustriamo i seguenti
comandi e controlli:
 Pulsante Active/Bypass
Premendo il pulsante a ritenuta si inserisce la catena dei filtri e
l'apparecchio e' operativo secondo le regolazioni impostate. Con pulsante
rilasciato il segnale di ingresso viene inviato direttamente all'uscita; in
questa condizione e' possibile valutare l'efficienza delle regolazioni
effettuate.
 Controlli di frequenza
Ogni singolo controllo FREQ e' costituito da una regolazione lineare
che, in combinazione con un pulsante di cambio scala, consente di
sintonizzare il singolo filtro nel range 60 Hz ÷ 6 kHz.
 Controlli di attenuazione
Ogni filtro ha un proprio controllo di attenuazione DEPTH variabile tra
0 e 20 dB; questo consente di intervenire in giusta misura per la
prevenzione della retroazione acustica e, in conseguenza, di modificare
quanto meno possibile la risposta in frequenza della catena
elettroacustica.
 Visualizzatore del segnale di uscita
Lo spettro del segnale in uscita dall'apparecchio e' visualizzato dal display
suddiviso in otto bande di frequenza; questa funzione permette di
individuare in modo sufficientemente preciso dove e' localizzata la
frequenza di innesco e quindi, sintonizzando i filtri, verificare la
diminuzione e la scomparsa dell'innesco.
3.3 OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The core of the equipment is formed by the four state-variable filters
with bandwidths equal to one sixth of an octave, connected in the band-
elimination configuration (notch filter) at one sixth of an octave, with
independent tuning and attenuation controls. These filters enable the
resonance frequencies of an environment that give rise to acoustic
feedback between the microphone and the speaker unit to be eliminated.
To complete the functions of the equipment, the following controls and
checks are described:
 Active/Bypass push-button
The chain of filters is activated by pressing the push-button, and the
equipment will be operational on the basis of the settings made. With
the push-button released, the input signal is sent directly to the output.
In this condition it is possible to evaluate the efficiency of the settings
that have been made.
 Frequency controls
Each single FREQ control consists of a linear adjustment that, combined
with a scale-changing push-button, enables each single filter to be tuned
within the 60 Hz ÷ 6 kHz range.
 Attenuation controls
Each filter has its own DEPTH attenuation control, variable between
0 and 20 dB; this makes it possible to intervene to the correct extent
required for preventing acoustic feedback and, consequently, to modify
the frequency response of the electro-acoustic chain as little as
possible.
 Output signal display
The spectrum of the equipment output signal is shown in the display,
split up into eight frequency bands. This function makes it possible to
identify where the frequency at which the phenomenon is triggered is
located in a sufficiently precise manner and, therefore, by tuning the
filters, to check the lowering and the disappearance of the triggering.

USE OF THE EQUIPMENT4USO DELLAPPARECCHIO
4.1 PROCEDURA DI TARATURA DEI FILTRI
Dopo aver realizzato limpianto, posizionando anche microfoni e diffusori,
operare come segue:
1. Equalizzare sul mixer microfonico i diversi segnali dingresso e
regolare il controllo di volume generale dellamplificatore in modo
da non aver retroazione acustica; questa operazione deve essere
effettuata con linterruttore di inserzione [1] in posizione BYPASS.
2. Regolare tutti i livelli di attenuazione dei filtri del P8024-B al minimo
ed inserire i filtri portando linterruttore [1] in posizione ACTIVE.
3. Aumentare gradualmente il volume generale dellamplificatore fino a
provocare un principio di retroazione acustica; lindicatore di livello [5]
indicherà approssimativamente le frequenze di innesto.
4. Portare lattenuatore del primo filtro a metà attenuazione circa.
5. Selezionare opportunamente la gamma di frequenze tramite il
moltiplicatore di banda X1-X10 (X1 gamma basse frequenze, X10
gamma alte frequenze) valutando sullindicatore [5] la probabile
frequenza del segnale di retroazione acustica.
6. Cancellare la frequenza di retroazione acustica sintonizzando il primo
filtro tramite il potenziometro di controllo; durante questa fase, servirsi
dellindicatore luminoso [5] per valutare la correttezza della sintonia.
7. Aumentare il volume generale dellamplificatore fino a provocare
nuovamente linsorgere di una retroazione acustica; se la frequenza
di retroazione è la stessa, aumentare il livello di attenuazione oppure,
senza modificare le regolazioni del primo filtro, usare il secondo
ripetendo i passi 4) 5) e 6); ripetere il procedimento fino
alleliminazione del fenomeno di retroazione acustica nelle condizioni
di uso normale. I filtri eventualmente inutilizzati vanno lasciati con la
regolazione di attenuazione al minimo. Va osservato che, in una prima
regolazione dellimpianto è bene lasciare almeno un filtro inutilizzato,
per poterne disporre nel caso in cui le condizioni acustiche dellambiente
possano mutare (esempio tipico è il grado di affollamento del locale di
ascolto, che può determinare differenti comportamenti acustici
dellambiente e quindi introdurre nuove frequenze di retroazione
acustica).
Per valutare lefficacia della tararatura, notare di quanto è stato possibile
aumentare il volume generale dellamplificatore rispetto alla condizione
riportata nel passo 3).
4.1 FILTER GAUGING PROCEDURE
After setting up the system and positioning the microphones and speaker
units, proceed as follows:
1. Equalise the various input signals on the microphone mixer and adjust
the master volume control of the amplifier in such a way that there is
no acoustic feedback. This operation has to be carried out with the
insertion switch [1] in the BYPASS position.
2. Set the levels of attenuation of all the filters of the P8024-B to
the minimum and include the filters by moving the switch [1] to the
ACTIVE position.
3. Increase the master volume of the amplifier gradually until the acoustic
feedback effect starts. The level indicator [5] will show the approximate
frequencies at which this effect is triggered.
4. Set the attenuator of the first filter roughly at mid attenuation.
5. Use the X1- X10 band multiplier (X1 low-frequency range, X10 high-
frequency range) to select the appropriate frequency range,
evaluating the probable frequency of the acoustic feedback signal
on the indicator [5].
6. Cancel the acoustic feedback frequency by tuning the first filter by
means of the control potentiometer. During this phase, use the signalling
lamp [5] to evaluate the correctness of the tuning.
7. Increase the master volume of the amplifier until acoustic feedback
occurs again. If the frequency at which the feedback occurs is the
same, increase the attenuation level or, without altering the setting of
the first filter, use the second one to repeat steps 4), 5) and 6);
repeat the procedure until the acoustic feeedback has been completely
eliminated in normal conditions of use. Any filters that are not being
used should be left with the attenuation set at the minimum level.
It should be pointed out that, when adjusting the system for the first
time, it is a good principle to leave at least one filter unused, so that
it will remain at disposal if the acoustic conditions of the room should
change. A typical example of this is the level of crowding of the room
where the broadcast is being listened to, which can affect the acoustic
performance of the room and therefore introduce new acoustic
feedback frequencies).
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the gauging, note the extent to
which it was possible to increase the master volume of the amplifier as
compared with the condition noted at point 3).

Le feedback controller P8024-B est un dispositif en mesure de limiter
les effets de réaction acoustique entre diffuseur et micro (effet mieux
connu comme effet Larsen) en affaiblissant les fréquences de
déclenchement de cet effet; ce phénomène est propre aux systèmes de
diffusion dont les micros sont situés dans le champ d'action des diffuseurs
(ainsi dans les églises ou encore dans les salles de congrès). Le dispositif
est équipé de quatre filtres éliminateurs de bande et de réglages
indépendants de fréquence centrale et daffaiblissement permettant de
mieux centrer les fréquences de déclenchement de l'effet Larsen; à propos
de ces filtres il est important de souligner la largeur de bande supprimée
(1/6 d'octave), suffisamment étroite pour altérer le moins possible la
réponse en fréquence mais en même temps suffisamment large pour
permettre le centrage du filtre sur la fréquence de déclenchement. Le
réglage du dispositif est facilité par un moniteur qui fournit le spectre du
signal de sortie subdivisé en huit bandes de fréquence.

Das Rückkopplungssteuergerät P8024-B ist in der Lage, die Wirkung
der akustischen Rückkopplung zwischen Lautsprecher und Mikrofon
(besser bekannt als Larsen-Effekt) zu reduzieren, indem es die
Einschaltfrequenz des Phänomens abschwächt; dieses Phänomen ist
typisch für Beschallungssysteme, welche auf Mikrofone angewiesen sind,
die im gleichen Wirkungsbereich der Lautsprecher liegen (z. B. Kirchen,
Kongresshallen). Zu diesem Zweck verfügt das Gerät 4 Abschlussfilter
mit unabhängigen Steuerungen der Mittelfrequenz und Abschwächung,
damit die Einschaltfrequenzen bequem eingestellt werden können; ein
nicht unbedeutendes Detail dieser Filter ist der abgeschlossene
Frequenzbereich von 1/6 Oktave, der ausreichend eng ist, um den
Frequenzgang nur minimal zu verändern aber doch ausreichend breit ,
um eine bequeme mittlere Frequenzeinstellung des Filters auf die
Einschaltfrequenz zu ermöglichen. Die Einstellung des Geräts wird durch
das Display vereinfacht, welches das Spektrum des Ausgangssignals
anzeigt, das in acht Frequenzbereiche unterteilt ist.
Nachstehend werden die Haupteigenschaften des Geräts
aufgeführt:
 Vier Frequenzabschlussfilter, 1/6 Oktave;
 Einstellung der zentralen Frequenz zwischen 60 Hz und 6 kHz, die in
zwei Bereiche unterteilt ist;
 Einstellbare Abschwächungen der Filter zwischen 0 und 20 dB;
 By-Pass-Schalter für die Überprüfung der Wirkung der Einstellung;
 Anzeige des Spektrums des Ausgangssignals in acht Frequenzbereichen;

 Schutzwählschalter für die Netzspeisung mit 115 V oder 230 V WS.

2RECOMMANDATIONS GÉNÉRALES
2.1 INSTALLATION
Tous les appareils PASO sont réalisés dans le respect des normes
internationales de sécurité les plus sévères et conformément à tous les
standards de l'Union européenne.
Pour garantir le bon fonctionnement de l'appareil, il est important de
prendre connaissance de toutes ses caractéristiques, en lisant à cet effet
les présentes instructions en accordant une attention toute particulière
aux notes de sécurité.
Durant le fonctionnement de l'appareil, il est nécessaire de garantir une
bonne ventilation et il est important d'éviter de placer l'appareil dans un
meuble dépourvu d'aération ou encore de le placer à proximité de sources
de chaleur. Cet appareil est prévu pour être monté dans un meuble rack
standard de 19.
2.2 ALIMENTATION
IMPORTANT!
L'appareil est prévu pour être alimenté à une tension de secteur de
230V ± 10% 50/60 Hz (il peut également être alimenté à une tension
de secteur de 115 V ± 10% 50/60 Hz).
La modification de la tension d'alimentation s'effectue par l'intermédiaire
du sélecteur [8], lequel est doté d'une protection.
Différemment, il est possible de raccorder l'appareil à une source
d'alimentation externe en courant continu 24V.
L'appareil est fourni avec un câble d'alimentation pourvu de conducteur et
de broche pour la mise à la terre, cette broche ne doit en aucun cas être
retirée. S'assurer que la prise de courant est bien raccordée à une ligne de
mise à la terre conforme à la réglementation.
2.3 NOTES DE SÉCURITÉ
Le retrait du couvercle de l'appareil expose au risque de décharge
électrique. Toute intervention effectuée à l'intérieur de l'appareil doit être
confiée à un personnel spécialisé. La partie interne de l'appareil ne
renferme aucun réglage destiné à l'utilisateur.
Avant de procéder au changement des fusibles, s'assurer que l'appareil a
bien été isolé du secteur d'alimentation en ayant débranché à cet effet la
prise correspondante. Il est important de veiller à ce que les fusibles soient
remplacés par des fusibles de type et d'ampérage identiques.
Ne jamais retirer le conducteur de mise à la terre présent sur le câble
d'alimentation. Afin de prévenir tout risque de décharge électrique ou
autre anomalie, ne jamais introduire des objets, en particulier métalliques,
à travers les ouvertures de l'appareil.
Dans le cas où un liquide serait involontairement renversé sur l'appareil,
débrancher immédiatement la prise du secteur d'alimentation et prendre
contact avec le Centre d'assistance PASO le plus proche.
IMPORTANT!
PASO décline toute responsabilité en cas de dommages matériels et/ou
physiques provoqués par l'utilisation impropre de l'appareil ou encore par
des opérations ou des interventions ne respectant pas les instructions
figurant dans la présente notice.
ALLGEMEINE HINWEISE
2.1 INSTALLATION
Alle PASO-Geräte werden nach strengsten internationalen
Sicherheitsvorschriften und unter Beachtung der Anforderungen der EU
gefertigt.
Zum Zweck eines ordnungsgemäßen und wirksamen Einsatzes des Geräts
ist es wichtig, die vorliegende Gebrauchsanweisung und insbesondere
die Sicherheitshinweise zu lesen, um sämtliche Geräteeigenschaften zu
kennen.
Während des Betriebs des Geräts ist es erforderlich, eine ausreichende
Ventilierung sicherzustellen, d.h. zu vermeiden, das Gerät in einem nicht
belüfteten Schrank oder in der Nähe von Wärmequellen aufzustellen.
Das Gerät ist für die Montage in einem 19"-Standard-Rack konzipiert.
2.2 STROMVERSORGUNG
WICHTIG!
Das Gerät ist für den Betrieb mit einer Netzspannung von 230 V ± 10%
50/60 Hz konzipiert (außerdem ist der Betrieb mit 115 V ± 10% 50/60
Hz) möglich. Die Änderung der Versorgungsspannung erfolgt mittels des
Wählschalters [8], der mit einer Schutzabdeckung versehen ist.
Alternativ besteht die Möglichkeit der Speisung mit externer
Gleichspannung von 24V.
Das Gerät ist mit einem Stromkabel mit Erdschutzleiter ausgerüstet, das
entsprechende Terminal am Netzstecker darf auf gar keinen Fall entfernt
werden. Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Steckdose einen normentsprechenden
Anschluss besitzt.
2.3 SICHERHEITSHINWEISE
Wenn die Abdeckung des Geräts entfernt wird, besteht Stromschlaggefahr.
Jeder Eingriff im Geräteinnern muss von Fachpersonal durchgeführt
werden. Im Innenraum sind keine anwenderseitig regulierbaren
Einstellungen vorhanden. Vor Auswechseln der Sicherungen, muss
sichergestellt werden, dass der Netzstecker abgezogen wurde.
Die Sicherungen müssen mit neuen Sicherungen gleichen Typs und Wertes
ersetzt werden.
Der Erdschutzleiter darf niemals vom Netzkabel entfernt werden.
Zur Vermeidung von Stromschlägen und Schäden dürfen keine
Gegenstände, insbesondere Metallgegenstände durch die Öffnungen des
Geräts in den Innenraum eingeführt werden.
Im Fall von Ausfließen von Flüssigkeiten auf dem Gerät muss der
Netzstecker sofort abgezogen und das am nächsten gelegene
PASO-Kundendienstzentrum verständigt werden.
