SPECIFICATIONS SP™15M
Description
The new SP™15M s a two-way
floor mon tor speaker system
compr sed of a 15" Black W dow®
sp der-frame BWX woofer w th a
Kevlar®/carbon f ber- mpregnated
cone and an enclosure made from
n ne-ply Balt c b rch. The
thoroughly braced cab net s
covered w th a durable black
carpet and prov ded w th a heavy
duty perforated steel gr lle w th a
dark grey powder coat ng. An SA-
1 stand mount adapter s bu lt n
for s de-f ll or P.A. use.
The low frequenc es are prov ded
by the 15" Black W dowBWX
woofer w th a Kevlar®/carbon
f ber- mpregnated cone and dust
cap. Capable of over 500 Watts of
cont nuous power handl ng (AES
Std 2-1984), the woofer can
handle a lot of power, wh ch
results n very low power
compress on. The h gh
frequenc es are handled by a 2"
Rx™22 t tan um d aphragm
compress on dr ver ut l z ng
ferroflu d cool ng. Th s superb
dr ver s coupled to a constant
d rect v ty horn w th smooth,
even response and good h gh
frequency d spers on. The Rx 22
dr ver features the Rad al near
Planar Phase Correct on System
(U.S. Patent 6,064,745), wh ch
prov des smoother and extended
h gh frequency response.
Input connect on to the system s
made v a two 1/4" phone jacks
and a four-p n Neutr k®n
parallel. The nternal pass ve
crossover features the Sound
Guard™III tweeter protect on
c rcu t and an advanced topology
crossover w th h gh performance
components to prov de h gh
power handl ng and rel ab l ty.
Sound Guard, Peavey’s
propr etary h gh frequency dr ver
protect on c rcu try, prov des
long- and med um-term dr ver
overload protect on when the
system s used full range w thout
mpa r ng mus cal trans ents or
dynam cs. The crossover prov des
dr ver roll off and protect on as
well as dr ver EQ for the woofer
and horn for clean, clear, smooth
response. H gh qual ty, rel able
crossover components nclude
polypropylene capac tors and
h gh current nductors. The
opt mal ntegrat on of the
crossover w th the selected
dr vers results n a smooth
frequency response from 90 Hz to
14 kHz, mak ng t h ghly
appropr ate for mon tor
appl cat ons.
Desp te ts compact d mens ons,
th s system can put out some
very h gh sound levels and
handle 1000 Watts of und storted
ampl f er power program,
result ng n clean mon tor ng w th
h gh art culat on and rel ab l ty.
Frequency Response
Th s measurement s useful n
determ n ng how accurately a
g ven un t reproduces an nput
s gnal. The frequency response of
the SP15M s measured at a
d stance of 1 meter us ng a 1 Watt
( nto the nom nal mpedance)
swept-s ne nput s gnal. As
shown n f gure 1, the selected
dr vers n the SP 15M comb ne to
g ve a smooth frequency
response from 90 Hz to 14 kHz.
Power Han ling
There are many d fferent
approaches to power handl ng
rat ngs. Peavey rates th s
loudspeaker system's power
handl ng us ng a full-range form
of the AES Standard 2-1984.
Us ng aud o band 20 Hz to 20
kHz p nk no se w th peaks of four
t mes the RMS level, th s
strenuous test s gnal assures the
user that every port on of th s
system can w thstand today's
h gh technology mus c. Th s
rat ng s cont ngent upon hav ng
a m n mum of 3 dB ava lable
ampl f er headroom.
Harmonic Distortion
Second and th rd harmon c
d stort ons vs. frequency are
plotted n f gures 3 & 4 for two
power levels, ten percent (10%)
of rated nput power and e ther
one percent (1%) of rated nput
power or 1 Watt, wh chever s
greater. D stort on s read from
the graph as the d fference
between the fundamental s gnal
(frequency response) and the
des red harmon c. As an example,
a d stort on curve that s down 40
dB from the fundamental s
equ valent to 1% d stort on.
Mounting
Th s un t s not des gned for
overhead suspens on. Includes
SA-1 stand-mount adapter and
e ght rubber feet on two s des for
dual-angle use.
