• Retain these instructions for future reference. This product, when installed, will be part of an
engineered system whose specications and performance characteristics are not designed or
controlled by the thermostat’s manufacturer.
• If at any time your system does not operate properly, contact a qualied service person.
• Care should be used to avoid static discharge to the thermostat.
IMPORTANT NOTE
This thermostat was shipped with factory default settings. Your thermostat’s installer may have
congured the thermostat differently from the factory default settings, and may have modied or
disabled certain features. Contact the installer or a service technician if you have questions about
the thermostat’s conguration.

GENERAL
The T190 thermostat is a low-voltage programmable thermostat designed to control most
conventional and heat pump systems. It is congurable for up to two-stage heat and two-stage
cool. The thermostat is 7-day programmable. Different heating and cooling setpoints and times are
programmable for 4 time periods per day. The thermostat can also be set to non-programmable
(manual) operation.
The T190 thermostat does not need batteries to store user-congured settings in memory. During
power loss its internal memory saves the all user settings, congurations, and usage counters
for unlimited time.

BACK PANEL REFERENCE
The three switches on the back panel have been positioned by your thermostat’s installer. Two
of the switches congure the thermostat for the type of HVAC equipment being controlled, and
the third switch species whether the thermostat is hardwired or using battery power. Changing
the switch positions may cause your system or thermostat to not operate properly. Refer to the
installation instructions for more information about these switches.

System Mode Display
HEAT – indicates the system is in heating mode.
HEAT – indicates rst stage heating is on.
HEAT – indicates second stage heating is on.
EM. HEAT – indicates emergency heat (auxiliary heat) is on.
COOL – indicates the system is in cooling mode.
COOL – indicates rst stage cooling is on.
COOL – indicates second stage cooling is on.
AUTO – indicates the system will automatically changeover between heating and cooling modes
as the room temperature varies.
OFF – indicates no heating or cooling will be activated at any temperature.
Temperature Display
Default display (Normal Mode): Digits display the current room temperature.
During programming: Digits are used to set the desired heating and cooling setpoint
temperatures.
°F or °C – indicates Fahrenheit or Celsius temperature, depending upon which was congured
at time of installation.
Day & Time Display
Default display: Digits indicate the current time, and day abbreviations indicate the current day.

During programming: Digits and days are used to program time periods.
PM – indicates PM time when clock is in 12-hour time mode. When PM is not displayed, clock is
in AM time.
Program Display
PROG ON – indicates the thermostat is running the programmed time and temperature settings,
which may be the default factory program or a custom program specied by the user.
OCC1, UNOCC1, OCC2, and UNOCC2 – these are “event icons” indicating the four time
periods per day: two occupied time periods (“OCC1”, “OCC2”) and two unoccupied time periods
(“UNOCC1”, “UNOCC2”). Each time period has its own unique setpoint temperatures.
RECOVERY – indicates the heating or cooling system is in the process of reaching the target
setpoint of the next programmed time period. The RECOVERY icon remains lit until the target
setpoint is reached.
Program Override Indicators
OVERRIDE – indicates thermostat is in temporary manual operation. (Programmed settings are
off, but not lost.)
PERMANENT OVERRIDE – indicates thermostat is in permanent manual operation.
Fan Operation Indicators
FAN ON – indicates constant, continuous fan operation.
FAN AUTO – indicates fan is on only when there is heating or cooling demand.

Filter and System Usage Indicators
USAGE – this icon lights up when system usage has reached the interval time set by the user.
The thermostat’s system usage function counts the number of hours heating or cooling is on.
FILTER USAGE – this icon lights up when lter usage has reached the interval time set by the
user. The thermostat’s lter usage function counts the number of hours the fan is on.
Low Battery Indicator
The battery symbol is displayed when the thermostat’s battery voltage is low. The symbol remains
lit until the user puts in new batteries.

NORMAL MODE
In these instructions, the term “Normal Mode” refers to the default thermostat display (i.e. when
the user is not performing any operations). The default display shows current time, current room
temperature, day of week, event, system mode, and program selection.
Example of a “Normal Mode” Display
Unless otherwise noted, you must be in Normal Mode before starting step 1 of instructions
throughout this Owner’s Manual.
Pressing the button always takes the thermostat to Normal Mode.

TEMPERATURE DISPLAY
Room Temperature Display: The thermostat displays room temperatures in the range of 50°F to
90°F (10°C to 32°C). Display is in 1°F (0.5°C) increments. The thermostat displays “LO” when
room temperature is below 32°F (0°C). The thermostat displays “HI” when room temperature
is above 99°F (40°C). Temperature updates every 10 seconds. Heating or Cooling operation
remains active when the room temperature is out of range.
Setpoint Temperature Display: In Normal Mode, pressing TEMP will display the setpoint
temperature of the current system mode (HEAT or COOL). After 5 seconds, the thermostat
returns to Normal Mode.
Fahrenheit or Celsius display was congured by the thermostat’s installer. To change the
Fahrenheit or Celsius display, refer to the Installation Instructions.
SAVING CHANGES
As you navigate your thermostat, be aware of the thermostat’s save and exit protocol:
• The thermostat automatically saves all the changes you make, as you make them.
• If the thermostat is idle for 60 seconds, the thermostat times out, saves all changes, and returns
to Normal Mode.
• When you are using the PROG, USAGE, D/T or TEMP functions: If you push a button that is not

applicable to the current function, nothing happens (your operation is not interrupted).
• Pressing the button always saves your settings and returns the thermostat to Normal
Mode.
▲ and ▼ Button operation
The ▲ and ▼ buttons function in two ways:
• When you are in Normal Mode, you can press ▲ to increase, or ▼ to decrease, the current
temperature setpoint. This will override programmed temperature settings until the next
programmed time period (OCC1, UNOCC1, OCC2, or UNOCC2).
• When you are using the PROG or USAGE functions, you can press ▲ or ▼ to scroll through
the options within those functions.
LCD BACKLIGHT
Pressing turns on the LCD Backlight for 10 seconds. Pressing any button or switch also
turns on the LCD Backlight. The light turns off after 10 seconds of inactivity.

SYSTEM SWITCH OPERATION
The SYSTEM switch has 2, 3, 4, or 5 positions, depending upon the T190 model you have. Slide
the switch to the desired system mode.
POSITION SYSTEM MODE DESCRIPTION
EEmergency Heat The thermostat operates as an Emergency Heating Only
thermostat.
O Off Turns the system off by disabling all thermostat outputs.
(However, FAN may be on.)
H Heat The thermostat operates as a Heating Only thermostat.
C Cool The thermostat operates as a Cooling Only thermostat.
AUTO Auto Changeover The thermostat automatically selects the appropriate
Heat or Cool mode depending upon the setpoint (desired
temperature) and zone temperature (actual temperature).

FAN SWITCH OPERATION
The FAN switch has two positions. Slide the switch to the desired fan mode.
POSITION SYSTEM MODE DESCRIPTION
ON Fan On The fan is on continuously, even if no demand for heating
or cooling exists.
AUTO Fan Auto The fan cycles with active demand for heating and
cooling.
SETTING THE DAY & TIME
1. Press D/T once. One day icon will start ashing.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the current day. To select, press D/T once. Hour digits will start
ashing.
Note: Factory default is a 12-hour clock. To toggle between 12-hour and 24-hour time
mode, press the TEMP button while the hour digits are ashing. The difference between
12-hour and 24-hour is not apparent on the display if the hour is between 1:00 AM and
11:59 AM, since an “AM” designation does not appear on the display.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the current hour. To select, press D/T once. Minute digits will start
ashing.

4. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the current minute. To select, press once.
Your selections have been saved and the thermostat has returned to Normal Mode. Your
thermostat is ready to function with the factory preprogrammed ENERGY STAR program. If you
want to change the program for your particular needs, follow the instructions in the “Programming
Time & Temperature Settings” section.
PROGRAMMING TIME & TEMPERATURE SETTINGS
Your thermostat’s programming feature allows you to divide up a 24-hour day into four time
periods (Events), and give each time period its own setpoint temperatures. On your thermostat
display, the four Events are called OCC1, UNOCC1, OCC2, and UNOCC2.
Your Heat Setpoint temperature tells your heating system the room temperature to maintain during
cold weather. The Cool Setpoint Temperature tells your cooling system the room temperature to
maintain during hot weather.
Factory Program
Your thermostat comes from the factory preprogrammed with all seven days of the week set to
the times and temperatures shown below.

If the factory program meets your needs, simply follow the “Setting the Day & Time” instructions,
and you’re done. If you want to change the preprogrammed times and/or temperatures, follow the
instructions under “Custom Program”.
Custom Program
Begin by planning your program. Use the “Custom Program Worksheet” to plan your program
time periods and temperatures you want during each period. Fill in the complete table, as it will
serve as a record of your programs, then follow this procedure:
1. Press PROG once. One day icon and all four event icons will start ashing. (Time and
temperature digits become blank.)
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the day you want to program. To select your preference, press
PROG once. (One event icon will be lit and the time digits will start ashing.)
Note: If the time digits display “--:--“, then the event’s program has been turned off. To turn

the program back on, see “Turning an Event’s Program Off or On” section.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the desired starting time of the event. To select, press PROG once.
(The HEAT icon and temperature digits will start ashing.)
4. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the desired HEAT setpoint temperature of the period. To select,
press PROG once. (The COOL icon and temperature digits will start ashing.)
5. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the desired COOL setpoint temperature of the period. To select,
press PROG once.
Now the next event icon of the same day will start ashing. Repeat steps 3 through 5 to program
each of the remaining events of that day. When all four events of one day have been programmed,
you are taken to the next day of the week.
Every time you push PROG you are kept in a loop that takes you, sequentially, through all 7 days
and 4 time periods per day. When you are done programming, pressing once will save your
settings and return the thermostat to Normal Mode.
You may also use the thermostat’s “COPY” feature to copy all of an individual day’s settings (all
four events) to another day.

Copy Feature
If multiple days have an identical program, you need only to program one day and then
copy that day’s program to other days.
1. In Normal Mode, press PROG once. One day icon and all four event icons will start
ashing. (Time and temperature digits become blank.)
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the individual day that you want to copy, then press
USAGE once. That day and all 4 event icons will stay lit, and a second day starts
ashing. The display will read “COPY t0”.

3. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll to the day to be written on. To select and initiate the copying,
press USAGE once. The display will read “donE” while copying. When copying is
