THERMALFLO HEAT PUMP CONTROL PANEL
OVERVIEW
CONTROL PANEL LAYOUT
1. ON/OFF Pushbutton – Turns the heat pump On and Off.
2. MENU SELECT button – Use to select menu items. While in the Run screen, pressing this
button displays the Control Panel Menu screen. Also, use this button to scroll through Operator
Setup Menu screens
3. POOL/SPA button – On the first press the current heat, cool or auto mode will be displayed
along with the active set point, pool or spa. On subsequent presses, the use of the pool or spa
setpoints will be toggled. You can also toggle between the pool and spa set point by using
the Up and Down arrow buttons.
4. Up and Down Arrow buttons – Use the Up and Down arrows to raise or lower the
temperature setpoint while in the Run screen. These buttons are also used to scroll
through the various parameter values on the Menu Select and Operator Setup screens.
5. ON Light – Illuminated when the heat pump is on.
6. SERVICE Light – Illuminated when an alarm condition exists.

CONTROL PANEL OPERATION
1. Usethe ON/OFFbutton tostartandstopthe heatpump.
a. Starttheheat pump–With power supplied,press theON/OFFbutton tostart the heat
pump. TheONlightwillilluminate.
b. Stoptheheat pump–With theONlight illuminated,presstheON/OFF buttontostop the
heatpump. TheON light willbeofffollowed bythetemporaryscreenshown below.
2. Adjustingthesetpointtemperature–Therearetwo (2)independentlyadjustable
temperaturesetpoints for thepooland spa.
a. To adjustthepool orspaset point temperaturepressthe UporDown button whileinthe
Runscreen. Thesetpoint is displayedafterthelettersSET inthe lowerleft cornerofthe
display. Thenumber afterACT=onthe bottom rowistheactual measuredwater
temperature.
b. Thesetpoint need notbe active tobe adjusted. PresstheMENU SELECTbutton
repeatedlyuntilthe associated runscreen isdisplayed. With thatscreen displayed,adjust
thesetpointwith the UPand DOWNarrows. The screenwillautomaticallyreturntothe
activerunscreen after 15seconds ofkeypad inactivity.
c. Themaximum water temperatureset point inPool modeis 95°F.
d. The maximumwater temperatureset pointinSpamodeis 104°F.
3. Togglingbetween Pooland Spa- The active mode of operation between Pool and Spa can be
changedinoneofthefollowingtwoways.
a. Onthe firstpressof the POOL/SPAbuttonthe currentheat,cool orautomode will be
displayedalong with whetherthepoolor spasetpointis active. On subsequentpresses,
theuse of thepoolor spa setpointswill be toggled. You can alsotoggle
betweenthe poolandspa set pointbyusing theUPand DOWNarrowswhen this screen
isdisplayed.
b. The Modescreencan also bemadeactive byrepeatedlypressing the MENU
SELECTbutton. Once theModescreen is displayedthe active setpointcan be
toggledbetween poolandspa bypressingthe UPor DOWN arrows.

4. Heat,CoolandAutoModes Operation-Certain heatpumpmodels havetheability to both
heatand cool.
a. Theseheat pumpscanbe setup tooperate in anyoneof threemodes:
• Heatonlymode
• Coolonlymode
• AutomaticHeatandCool– The heatpump automaticallyswitches between heat
andcool basedonwhether the watertemperatureis beloworabove theactive
setpoint.
b. If thecooling optionisavailable,theoperating modes canbechangedasdescribed here.
Pressthe MENU SELECTbuttonrepeatedlyuntil theHeat orCoolscreenis displayed.
Oncedisplayed, presstheup or downarrows to scrollthroughthe heat,cooland auto
options. Thelastoptionshownon the displaywill becomeactive.
5. RelayRemote–In relayremote operationtheheat pumpis startedand stopped byremote
relayswhich areconnected to theremote POOL, COMMONand SPAquick connectconnectors
onthe back ofthecontrolboard. When conductivityisprovidedbetween the poolandcommon
connectionsorthe spaand commonconnectionstheheatpump will startaslongasthe water
temperatureisnot overthe localsetpoint(underfor chiller operation). Thelocalsetpointsare
activeinrelayremoteoperation.
a. Ifthe heat pumpistobe controlledby aremotedevicesuch asanautomationsystem, the
heatpumpset point shouldbe madehigher (ifheating)thanthedesiredtemperature. For
example,if yourremoteconnectionswired tothebackof theboardare connected tothe
poolandcommonterminal, and youwant yourpool maintainedat 85degrees, youshould
settheheat pump to90Fahrenheitandthen turnon theremotefunction.
b. If youhaveaseparate spa,youmusthave theautomationsystemwired tothespaand
commonterminals on thebackof the board. If youwantyour spa temperaturemaintained
at102 Fahrenheit, youshouldset the heatpumpto104 Fahrenheitandthenturn onthe
remotefunction.
c. Toactivate therelay RemoteMode,pressthe MENU SELECTbuttonrepeatedly until
theRelay Remotescreenis displayed. Oncedisplayed,press the UPor DOWN arrows
togo betweenONand OFF. The last optionshownon thedisplaywill becomeactive.

6. AutoSet– Certainheatpump modelshavetheability tostartand stop aremotewater pump.
ThisAutoSetfeature,ifenabled,allowstheheatpumptoperiodicallyenergizethefilterpumpand
testthe temperature ofthewaterin thepoolorspa. If the waterrequiresheating,or coolingif
available,thefilterpumpwillremainenergizeduntilthewaterreachesthesetpointtemperature.
ThismenuisonlyshowniftheAutoSetfeatureisenabledduringfactorysetup.
a. Toactivate theAutoSetfeature,press the MENUSELECTbutton repeatedlyuntilthe
AutoSetscreen isdisplayed. Once displayed, pressthe UPor DOWN arrowsto go
betweenON andOFF. Thelast optionshownonthe displaywillbecome active.
CONTROL PANEL MENU SCREENS
Toscroll through themenuscreenspressthe MENUSELECTbuttonto vieweachscreen. Whilein

1. PoolRunScreen–Displays whethertheheatpumpisidle, heatingor coolingif thePoolsetpoint
isactive. Thisscreen also displaysthewatertemperaturesetpoint andthe actualmeasuredwater
temperature. ThePool setpoint canberaisedor loweredusing theupanddown arrowswhilethis
screenisdisplayed. Thedisplaywill automatically returnto thisscreen after 15seconds of push
buttoninactivitywhenthePoolsetpointisactive.
2. SpaRunScreen -Displayswhetherthe heat pumpisidle,heating or coolingiftheSpasetpoint is
active. Thisscreenalso displays thewatertemperaturesetpointand theactual measuredwater
temperature. TheSpa setpoint canberaised or loweredusingthe up anddownarrowswhile this
screenisdisplayed. Thedisplaywill automatically returnto thisscreen after 15seconds of push
buttoninactivitywhentheSpasetpointisactive.
3. Heat or Cool Mode Selection Screen – This screen is only shown on Auto Heat and Cool
heatpumps, noton heatonly units. On these units this screen allows the operator to switch
theheatpump betweenheat-only,cool-onlyand auto heat/coolmodes.

4. RemoteOn/OffScreen–Allows theoperatorto turntheRelay Remotemode On andOff. In
RelayRemotemode, theheatpumpisstarted andstopped byremoterelaysin an automation
controller. The local Pooland Spasetpoints arestill activein thisRelayRemotemode.
5. AutoSet On/Off Screen – This screen is only shown if the AutoSet mode is enabled
duringfactory setup. Allows the operator to turn theAutoSet mode On and Off. AutoSet
modeperiodicallyenergizesafilterpumpcontactortostart a remote filter pumpwhichallows the
heatpump toheat or coolthe waterasnecessary.
6. Time Delay Screen – This screen is only shown if the heat pump is waiting due to a pre-
programmeddelay. If theheatpumpis waitingonanyof therestart,pumpstart, sensingwater
temperatureordefrostdelays this screen showshow muchdelay timeis left.
7. Defrost Temperature – This screen is only shown if the defrost feature is enabled during
operatorsetup. Ifthe Defrostfeatureisenabled this screenwilldisplaythe temperature ofthe
compressorsuctionline. Thistemperature is usedto determinewhen the heatpump requires
defrosting.
8. AlarmScreen– Ifan alarmconditionispresentit will bedisplayedonthisscreen. If no alarms
arepresentthe screenwilldisplayALARMSTATUSNONE.
9. ModeScreen– Displayswhetherthe heat pumpisin Heatonly, CoolonlyorAuto mode.
Italso displayswhetherthePool orSpaset point isactive. Theactive setpointcanbe switched
betweenPool andSpa by usingthe UPandDOWN arrows.

OPERATOR SETUP MENU SCREENS
Toaccessthis menu,presstheUpand Downarrowsimultaneously. While in theOperatorSetup
Menuscreen, if noactivityis detected after15secondsthe mainscreenisdisplayed. To getbackinto
theSetupmenuyoumustpressthe Up andDownarrowsimultaneouslyagain.
1. SoftwareRevision– Displaysthe software revisionlevelloaded onthecontrolboard.
2. Pump Start Time – This screen is only shown if the AutoSet mode is enabled during
factorysetup. This displays theperiodat which theheatpump will closetheAutoSetcontactor
tostart thefilterpump. Adjustable from 1to4 hoursusingthe UPand DOWNarrows.
3. IntellAddress-IntelliTouch RS-485 CommunicationsAddresswhichmustmatchtheaddress
usedintheIntelliTouch automation controller being communicated with. Adjustable from 1 to 16
usingthe UPandDOWNarrows.
4. SerialRemote–Determineswhether or nottheheatpump will acceptIntelliTouch RS-485
command. Adjustedto Onor Offwith theUPand DOWN arrowbuttons.
5. TemperatureScale–Thecontrol board candisplaytemperatures in eitherdegreesFahrenheitor
Celsius. Thetemperature scaleinusecan bechangedasdescribed below.
a. Pressthe MENU SELECTbuttonrepeatedly until theTemperatureScale screen is
displayed. Oncedisplayed, presstheUP orDOWNarrows totogglebetween the
FahrenheitandCelsiusoptions. Thelastoption shown onthe display willbecome active.
6. TempOffset –Adjusts the measuredwater temperatureupor downtoallow theoperator to
matchtheheatpump measured temperatureto aremote temperaturemonitoring device. The
offsetcan bevariedfrom -2to+2 using theup and downarrows. Thetemperature offsetcanbe
changedas described below.
a. Pressthe MENU SELECTbuttonrepeatedly untiltheTemperatureOffsetscreenis
displayed. Oncedisplayed, presstheUP orDOWNarrows toselect the desiredoffset.

LOCKING THE CONTROL PANEL
1. Heatpumpcontrolpanellock-out-To preventunwanted adjustingor manipulatingof theheat
pumpsettings, thecontrolpanelcan belocked. Oncelocked,if anybuttonis pressed, the
displaywillread:
• To activatethecontrol panellockout,press the MENUSELECTandPOOL/SPAbuttons
simultaneously.
• Tounlock thecontrolpanel, presstheMENUSELECTand POOL/SPAbuttons
simultaneously.
DEFROST CYCLE
Atair temperaturesbelow50°F, the heatpumpmay enteradefrostcycle.Thedefrost cycleis
initiatedwhenasensor on theevaporator detectsthattherefrigeranttemperaturehas fallen belowthe
defrostsetpoint. At thistime, theheatpumpcompressorwill stop. The heatpump evaporatorfanwill
continueto run, andwilldrawair over theevaporatorfinsfor about15minutes. If,at the endofthe
15minutes, thetemperaturesensordetects atemperatureabove44° F,thecompressor willrestart.
Otherwisetheunitwillshutdown.
Becausea heat pump'sefficiencydecreases as airtemperaturedecreases, it ispreferableto operate
theheatpump duringthe warmesttimeofday. As a rule,theunitshouldnot beoperated duringthe
coolesttime of day, or whentheairtemperature fallsbelow45°F.

AUTOSET
Autosetisafeaturethat allows the heatpump to automaticallyturn on yourwater circulation pumpat
predeterminedtimeintervalsafterthewatercirculationpumpshutsoff. Toutilizethisfeature,thewater
circulationpumpmustbewiredinparallelwithyourmechanicaltimeclockusingtheauxiliaryrelay
suppliedinthehighvoltagepower panel of theheat pump.
Forexample,ifyourpoolwatercirculation pump is wiredproperly with the timeclock through the
heatpump,have theheat pumpcontrolboardprogrammedwith a pump starttimeintervalof4 hours,
havetheAutoSet feature enabled,andyouwish to maintainyourpoolto 80°F., this isthesequenceof
eventsthatwillhappen.
1. Ifyourmechanicaltime clock isset toshut offat 9:00pm., oncethe watercirculation pumpshuts
off,the heat pump will display a countdownwindow.
2. Theheatpumpwillcontinuetocountdowninhoursand minutes.
3. Oncethe4 hours hasexpired,at1:00am, thecontrol boardwillenergizetheinternal contactor in
theheatpumpto turn onyour water circulationpump.
4. Theheatpumpwillsensewater temperature then determineif it needsto continue tocirculate
water. If the pooltemperaturehasfallen below yoursetpoint,80 degreesfor thisexample,the
heatpumpwill turnon andbeginheatingthe pool. Once thepooltemperaturehas reached itsset
point,80degrees,theheatpumpwill shut off andwill also shut offthe water circulation pump.
5. Ifafter thewatersensingtime, theheatpumpdetects thepoolwater is abovetheset point, 80
degreesforthisexample,itwillshutoffandshutthewatercirculationpumpoffalso.
6. Atthetimethewatercirculationpump shuts off, theheatpump will again resetand begin the
countdownintervalagainanddisplaythefollowingwindow.
7. Theheatpumpwillcontinuethiscycleevery time thewatercirculationpumpisshutoff.
8. Oncethetimeclock turns onin themorning, theheat pumpwill stoptheAutoSetfeatureand
resumenormaloperation.
