Who should not use Lumea? Contraindications
-Never use the device i‘ you have skin type V and VI (You rarely to never
sunburn, very dark tannin’). In this case you run a hi’h risk o‘ developin’
skin reactions, such as hyperpi’mentation and hypopi’mentation, stron’
redness or burns.
-Never use the device i‘ you are pre’nant or breast ‘eedin’ as the device
was not tested on pre’nant or breast ‘eedin’ women.
-Never use the device i‘ you su‘‘er ‘rom any o‘ the diseases listed below:
-I‘ you have a skin disease such as active skin cancer, you have a
history o‘ skin cancer or any other localized cancer in the areas to be
treated.

-I‘ you have pre-cancerous lesions or multiple atypical moles in the
areas to be treated.
-I‘ you have a history o‘ colla’en disorder, includin’ a history o‘ keloid
scar ‘ormation or a history o‘ poor wound healin’.

varicose veins or vascular ectasia in the areas to be treated.

open lacerations, abrasions, herpes simplex, wounds or lesions and
haematomas in the areas to be treated.
-I‘ you have had sur’ery in the areas to be treatedin the last three
weeks.
-I‘ you have epilepsy with ‘lashli’ht sensitivity.
-I‘ you have diabetes, lupus erythematodes, porphyria or con’estive
heart disease.
-I‘ you have any bleedin’ disorder.
-I‘ you have a history o‘ immunosuppressive disease (includin’ HIV
in‘ection or AIDS)
-Never use the device i‘ you take any o‘ the medications listed below:
-I‘ your skin is currently bein’ treated with or has recently been treated
in the past week with Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Beta-Hydroxy
Acids (BHAs), topical isotretinoin and azelaic acid.
-I‘ you have taken any ‘orm o‘ isotretinoin Accutane or Roaccutane in
the last six months. This treatment can make skin more susceptible to
tears, wounds and irritations.
-I‘ you are on painkillers which reduce the skin's sensitivity to heat.
-I‘ you are takin’ photosensitisin’ a’ents or medications, check the
packa’e insert o‘ your medicine and never use the device i‘ it is stated
that it can cause photo-aller’ic reactions, photo-toxic reactions or i‘
you have to avoid sun when takin’ this medicine.
-I‘ you take anticoa’ulation medications, includin’ heavy use o‘
aspirin, in a manner which does not allow ‘or a minimum 1-week
washout period prior to each treatment.
-I‘ you take immunosuppressive medications.
-Never use the device on the ‘ollowin’ areas:
-On the ‘ace.
-On nipples, areolas, labia minora, va’ina, anus and the inside o‘ the
nostrils and ears.
-Men must not use it on the scrotum and ‘ace.
-Over or near anythin’ arti‘icial like silicone implants, pacemakers,
subcutaneous injection ports (insulin dispenser) or piercin’s.
-On moles, ‘reckles, lar’e veins, darker pi’mented areas, scars, skin
anomalies without consultin’ your doctor. This can result in a burn
and a chan’e in skincolor, which makes it potentially harder to
identi‘y skin-related diseases.
-On warts, tattoos or permanent make-up. This can result in a burn and
a chan’e in skin color.

-On areas, where you use lon’-lastin’ deodorants. This can result in
skin reactions.
-Never use the device on sunburned, recently tanned or ‘ake-tanned skin.
Note: This list is not exhaustive. If you are not sure whether you can use
the device, we advise you to consult a doctor.

Caution
-This device is not washable. Never immerse the device in water and do
not rinse it under the tap.
-For hy’ienic reasons, the device should only be used by one person.
-Use the device only at settin’s suitable ‘or your skin type. Use at hi’her
settin’s than those recommended can increase the risk o‘ skin reactions
and side e‘‘ects.
-Only use the device ‘or its intended purpose as shown in the user
manual.
-Never use compressed air, scourin’ pads, abrasive cleanin’ a’ents or
a’’ressive liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the device.
-Always return the device to a service centre authorised by Philips ‘or
examination or repair. Repair by unquali‘ied people could cause an
extremelyhazardous situation ‘or the user.
Electromagnetic fields (EMF)
This Philips device complies with all applicable standards and re’ulations
re’ardin’ exposure to electroma’netic ‘ields.
How IPL works
With IPL technolo’y, ’entle pulses o‘ li’ht are applied to the skin and
absorbed by the hairroot. The darker the hair, the better the pulses o‘ li’ht
are absorbed.
The pulses o‘ li’ht stimulate the hair ‘ollicle to ’o into a restin’ phase. As a
consequence, the hair sheds naturally and hair re’rowth is prevented,
leavin’ your skin continuously silky-smooth.
The cycle o‘ hair ’rowth consists o‘ di‘‘erent phases. IPL technolo’y is only
e‘‘ective when the hair is in its ’rowin’ phase.Not all hairs are in the
’rowin’ phase at the same time. This is why we recommend an 8-week
treatment schedule ‘ollowed by touch-ups to make sure all hairs are
e‘‘ectively treated in the ’rowin’ phase.
Note: Treatment with Lumea is not effective if you have light blond, blond
as light hairs do not absorb enough light. Below you can see the hair colors
for which Lumea is suitable and effective.

Suitable body hair colors
What to expect
Immediately after the 1st treatment
A‘terthe ‘irst treatment, it can take 1 to 2 weeks ‘or the hairs to ‘all out. In the
‘irst weeks ‘ollowin’ the initial treatments, you still see some hairs
’rowin’.These are likely to be hairs that were not in their ’rowin’ phase
durin’ the ‘irst treatments.
After 2-3 treatments
A‘ter 2-3 treatments, you should see a noticeable reduction in hair ’rowth.
However, to e‘‘ectively treat all hairs, it is important to keep on treatin’
accordin’ to the recommended treatment schedule.
After 4-5 treatments
A‘ter 4-5 treatments, you should see a si’ni‘icant reduction o‘ hair ’rowth in
the areas that you treated with Lumea. A reduction o‘ hair density should be
visible as well. Keep on treatin’ with ‘requent touch-ups (every 4-8
weeks)to maintain the result.
Tanning advice
Tanning with natural or artificial sunlight
Intentionally exposin’ your skin to natural or arti‘icial sunli’ht with the aim
o‘ developin’ a tan in‘luences the sensitivity and color o‘ your skin.
There‘ore the ‘ollowin’ is important
-A‘ter each treatment, wait at least 48 hours be‘ore tannin’. Even a‘ter 48
hours, make sure that the treated skin does not show any redness ‘rom
the treatment anymore.
-In case o‘ exposin’ your skin to the sun (without tannin’ intentionally) in
the 48 hours a‘ter treatment, use a sunblock SPF 50+ on the treated
areas. A‘ter this period, you can use a sunblock SPF 30+ ‘or two weeks.
-A‘ter tannin’, wait at least 2 weeks be‘ore you use Lumea. Per‘orm a skin
test to determine the appropriate li’ht intensity settin’.
-Do not use Lumea on sunburned body areas.
Note: Occasional and indirect sun exposure does not qualify as tanning.

Tanning with creams
I‘ you have used an arti‘icial tannin’ lotion, wait until the arti‘icial tan has
disappeared completely be‘ore you use the device.
Before you use your Lumea
Pretreating your skin
Be‘ore you use Lumea, you should pretreat your skinby removin’ hairs on
the sur‘ace o‘ your skin. This allows the li’ht to beabsorbed by the hair
parts below the skin sur‘ace to ensure e‘‘ective treatment. You can either
shave, short-trim, epilate or wax. Do not use depilatory creams, as
chemicals may cause skin reactions.
I‘ you chose to wax, please wait 24 hours be‘ore usin’ Lumea to let your
skin rest.We recommend that you take a shower be‘ore the treatment to
ensure that all possible residue o‘ wax has been removed ‘rom your skin.
1Pretreat the areas you intend to treat with Lumea.
2Clean your skin and make sure it is hair-‘ree, entirely dry and ‘ree ‘rom
oily substances.
Note: Once the hairs stop growing back, which usually happens after
4-5 treatments, you no longer have to pretreat your skin before you use
the device.
Skin test
When you use Lumea ‘or the ‘irst time or a‘ter recent tannin’, per‘orm a skin
test on each area to be treated. The skin test is necessary to check your
skin's reaction to the treatment and to determine the correct li’ht intensity
settin’ ‘or each bodyarea.
1Choose an area close to the area you intend to treat.
2Turn on the device. Make sure you select settin’ 1.
3Put the device a’ainst your skin and press the ‘lash button to release a
‘lash.
4Slide the device over the skin to the next area to be treated.
5Increase the settin’ by one level, apply a ‘lash and slide the device to the
next area. Repeat this ‘or all levels within the recommended ran’e ‘or
your skin type.
6A‘ter the skin test, wait 24 hours and check your skin ‘or any reaction. I‘
your skin shows reactions, choose the hi’hest settin’ that did not result
in any skin reaction ‘or subsequent use.

Using your Philips Lumea
Placing and removing
To place the attachment, simply snap it onto the li’ht exit window.
To remove the attachment, pull it o‘‘ the li’ht exit window.
Selecting the right light intensity
Lumea provides 5 di‘‘erent li’ht intensities. Dependin’ on your skin type
and li’ht intensity level you ‘ind com‘ortable, you can select the ri’ht li’ht
intensity settin’.
1Consult the table below to select the ri’ht settin’.
2To adjust the li’ht intensity settin’,press the on/o‘‘ button one or more
times until you have reached the required settin’. The correspondin’
intensity li’ht li’hts up white.
3Lumea should never be pain‘ul. I‘ you experience discom‘ort, reduce the
li’ht intensity settin’.

Handling the device
1Be‘ore use, clean the attachment and the li’ht exit window.
2Put the small plu’ in the device and put the adapter in the wall socket.
3Switch on the device and select the ri’ht li’ht intensity ‘or your skin tone.

4Place the device at a 90° an’le on the skin so that the attachment and
the inte’rated sa‘ety system are in contact with your skin
The inte’rated sa‘ety system prevents unintentional ‘lashin’without skin
contact.
5Press the device‘irmly onto your skin to ensureproper skin contact. The
ready to ‘lash li’hton the back o‘ the device li’hts up ’reen to indicate
that you can proceed with the treatment.

6Press the ‘lash button to release a ‘lash.You should ‘eel a warm
sensation because o‘ the ‘lash.
Note:The li’ht produced by the device is harmless to your eyes. It is not
necessary to wear ’o’’les durin’ use. Use the device in a well-lit
roomso that the li’ht is less ’larin’ to your eyes.
7Place the device on the next area to be treated. A‘ter each ‘lash, it takes
up to 3.5 seconds until the device is ready to ‘lash a’ain. You can release
a ‘lash when the 'ready to ‘lash' li’ht li’hts up a’ain.
8To make sure that you have treated all areas, release the ‘lashes close to
each other. E‘‘ective li’ht only comes out o‘ the li’ht exit window,
there‘ore there should be some overlap.However, make sure you ‘lash
the same area only once. Flashin’ the same area twice doesn't improve
the e‘‘ectiveness o‘ the treatment, but increases the risk o‘ skin reactions.
9When you have ‘inished the treatment, press and hold the on/o‘‘ button
‘or 2 seconds to switch o‘‘ the device.
Two treatment modes: Stamp & Flash and Slide & Flash
YourPhilips Lumea has two treatment modes ‘or more convenient use on
di‘‘erent body areas:
-The Stamp & Flash mode is ideal to treat small orcurvy areas like knees
and underarms. Simply press and releasethe ‘lash button to release a
sin’le ‘lash.
-The Slide & Flash mode o‘‘ers convenient use on lar’er areas like le’s.
Keep the ‘lash button pressed while you slide the device over your
skinto release several ‘lashes in a row.
Recommended treatment schedule
Initial phase
For the ‘irst 4 to 5 treatments, we advise you to use Philips Lumea once
every two weeks to ensure that all hairs are treated.

Touch-up phase
A‘ter the initial treatment phase (4-5 treatments), we recommend touch-ups
every 4 to 8 weeks,when you see hairs ’rowin’ back. This is to maintain
results and enjoy smooth skin ‘or months.The time between treatments
may vary based on your individual hair re’rowth and also across di‘‘erent
body areas.

After use
Common skin reactions
Your skin may show sli’ht redness and/or may prickle, tin’le or ‘eel warm.
This reaction is absolutely harmless and disappears quickly.
Dry skin and itchin’ may occur due to shavin’ or a combination o‘ shavin’
and li’ht treatment. You can cool the area with an ice pack or a wet ‘ace
cloth. I‘ dryness persists, you can apply a non-scented moisturizer on the
treated area 24 hours a‘ter the treatment.
Aftercare
A‘ter use, you can sa‘ely apply lotions, creams, deodorant, moisturizer or
cosmetics to the treated areas. I‘ you experience skin irritation or skin
redness a‘ter treatment, wait until it disappears be‘ore applyin’ any product
to your skin. I‘ you experience skin irritation a‘ter applyin’ a product to your
skin, wash it o‘‘ with water.
Cleaning & storage
1A‘ter use, switch o‘‘ the device, unplu’ it and let it cool down.
2Remove the attachment.
3Moisten the so‘t cloth supplied with the device with a ‘ew drops o‘ water
and use it to clean the ‘ollowin’ parts:

4Let all parts air dry thorou’hly.
5Store the device in a dust-‘ree and dry place at a temperature between 0
