Welcome to digital terrestrial television!
The simplest way to get digital television is here. No dish. No cable.
Simply an aerial. It is, without doubt, the most exciting development in television history since the
first-ever broadcast in 1936.
In the last 60 years, there have been up to five normal channels on analogue television. Digital
terrestrial changes that.
ONdigital is the next step in television. Simply plug in your ONdigital box for a feast of mouth-
watering television. ONdigital is the only company that lets you pick and choose the channels you
want to watch.
Subscription channels from ONdigital, together with free channels from the BBC and ITV, cover
everthing from sports and movies to news and current affairs, all with improved picture and sound
... and widescreen too. No need for dishes. No need for cables. Simply ONdigital.
Before using this product, carefully read the "Safety Precautions" and this manual to ensure that
you can properly operate this product.
Keep this manual in a safe and convenient place where it can be easily referenced in the future.
"This equipment has been approved in accordance with Council Decision 98/482/EC for pan-

approval, however, does not unconditionally guarantee successful operation with every PSTN
network terminal due to differences between the PSTNs of the various countries. Should a
problem occur, contact the dealer where you purchased this equipment."

of major brand TVs and VCRs. Refer to page 50 for programming instructions.
Putting Batteries in the
Remote Controller
CAUTION
• Do not mix new and used batteries. Only add
all new batteries.
• Do not mix battery brands. Different battery
brands may have different voltages even if the
same size.
• When not planning to use the remote control-
ler for a long period of time (over one month),
remove the batteries to prevent battery fluid
leaks inside the remote controller. If a battery
leak occurs inside the remote controller, dis-
card the old batteries, wipe out the liquid from
the case, and add new batteries.
• The PIONEER batteries supplied with the re-
mote controller do not contain heavy metals,
such as mercury, nickel, or cadmium. In many
countries, however, the disposal of batteries
with household waste is not allowed. Be sure
to comply with local regulations when dispos-
ing of batteries.
•The remote controller's brand code setting
will only last for about one minute, so to pre-
vent the inconvenience of losing the stored
settings, have ready a fresh set of new bat-
teries and add them immediately after remov-
ing the old batteries. However, if the remote
controller's buttons are pressed while the
batteries are removed, the brand code setting
will be deleted. Please be careful not to press
the buttons while replacing the batteries.
Caring for the Remote Controller
• Do not drop the remote controller.
• Do not get the remote controller wet.
• Do not use or store the remote controller in
the following locations:
In direct sunlight
Near hot objects
Areas with high humidity
• If an object is blocking the path between the
remote controller and the ONdigital box sig-
nal sensor the unit might not respond to the
remote controller commands. If this happens,
remove the obstacle or change your position.
• As the batteries weaken, the range of the re-
mote controller becomes shorter. If the opera-
tion range is too short for your preference,
replace the batteries.

BASIC CONNECTIONS
Television and VCR with
SCART Sockets
Connect the included SCART lead to the TV socket
of the digital receiver and to the TV.
To obtain the best picture quality and have access to automatic EXT
switching, connect to the TV's first EXT AV1 socket.
NOTE:
If you already have a SCART lead, connect it to the digital
receiver's VCR socket and to the VCR. This connection provides
the best recording and playback quality. Using the VCR EXT AV1
SCART socket will enable you to operate the VCR via the digital
receiver.
NOTE:
Before beginning to make connections, check the current wiring configuration because if the TV
and VCR are connected as shown above then the coaxial connection between them does not
need to be changed. This connection ensures your current channels can still be recorded.
Before making connections unplug all equipment
from the main power supply.
Refer to the above connection diagram to complete
the receiver connections.
No further adjustments are required.

The digital receiver's frequently-used operations are based on a series of user friendly on-screen
displays and menus. The displays provide information to guide you in the use of the digital re-
ceiver to help you fully utilize its functions and features from initial installation and channel selec-
tion to the use of advanced functions.
All functions can be operated using either the remote controller or the digital receiver's front panel,
but for convenience you will probably want to use the remote controller most of the time. You can
return to the regular TV picture at any time by pressing either the EXIT or MENU button.
If you have any trouble operating the receiver, refer to the corresponding section of the instruction
manual, including the troubleshooting section, or call ONdigital Customer Service at 0870-600-
9696 to speak with a Customer Service advisor.

LOCATING AND STORING CHANNELS
With the digital receiver properly connected you can now begin locating the new channels. The
process is also described in the information included in the ONdigital envelope that came with the
digital receiver.
NOTE:
At the end of this process, you should call ONdigital customer services on 0870-600-9696 to
activate your smartcard.
Following both the instructions on page 11 in the
CONNECTIONS section of this manual or the in-
structions contained in the ONdigital envelope will
cause either the "Welcome" screen or "Main Menu"
screen to be displayed on the TV.
If the Main Menu is already displayed on the screen, proceed to
Step 3.
IMPORTANT:
• If neither of the above-mentioned screens are displayed even
though the SCART lead was used to make the connection,
try pressing the remote controller TV/DTV button. Or try
pressing the TV remote controller button that selects the TV's
AV or External (SCART) socket.
• Alternatively check the channel that was selected for the de-
fault UHF output. The TV might need to be retuned to this
channel. Refer to pages 11 to 14 in the CONNECTIONS sec-
tion of this manual.
