Highlights important information
The Caution Symbol highlights the presence of a potential danger.
CAUTION: of instrument damage. All conditions specified in the associated text must be
fully known and understood before proceeding
This symbol indicates that the product at the end of its useful life must be collected

1. Introduction
The portable readout unit is an instrument capable to give power to the sensors and to display the data
coming from them. It is generally used when the data coming from the transducers are not required or
cannot be automatically and continuously acquired (by means of a remote acquisition unit). To speed up the
reading operations, sometimes the signals of two or more sensors are grouped in centralization panels from
which, by connecting with the portable reading control unit using the cable provided and with the simple use
of a channel selector, it is possible to display data coming from all the installed sensors.
2. Initial inspection
All the instruments have been carefully inspected, both mechanically and electrically, before they leave the
factory.
Please check if all received items correspond with the packing list, your order confirmation and if the list of
components (chapter 4.1) corresponds to the material effectively present.
In case of discrepancy, please contact Pizzi Instruments or your local Representative.
NOTE: All instruments are thoroughly checked both electrically and mechanically before leaving
the factory.
Damage during shipment
If requested at the moment of the order, all instruments can be insured prior to shipment. If you receive a
damaged shipment and shipping insurance was previously arranged you should:
Report the damage to your shipper immediately
Inform Pizzi Instruments or your local representative immediately
Keep all packaging and shipping documents

Rev.003 –09.05.20196/7
NOTE: All shipments must immediately opened upon delivery and the content must be
checked, in quality and quantity, on the base of the packing list sent together with the goods.
No claims for shortages, damages or errors will be considered valid if no writing form to our
office within 3 days of receipt of goods will be sent.
Attention: insurance claims may be void if the above procedure is not followed.
3. Storage
Keep the material in a proper site to avoid its deterioration before the installation and to protect it from any
possibility of shocks.
Do not place weights on top of the instrumentation
Do not store the equipment in places where it could cause damage to persons or property
Be careful during the storage not to bend or crush the steel parts
4. User instructions
IMPORTANT:: the portable readout unit, when turned on, continuously outputs the measurement input.
Switch on the portable readout unit only after having connected the banana plugs in the measurement
bushings.
Avoid the contacts of the banana plugs while the portable readout unit is turned on.

To turn on the readout unit, press the ON / OFF button: the display will initially show an information screen
(with the hardware and firmware version) after which, if the whole system is correctly connected, the
current measurement value will be displayed.
The unit of measurement is indicated at the bottom of the display.
To switch off the control unit, simply hold down the ON / OFF button for 2 seconds. In order to preserve the
battery, the PDA is equipped with the automatic switch-off function which automatically switches the
instrument off after 3 minutes of inactivity.
The other keys are not accessible to the end user as they are used for the factory configuration of the
instrument.
The battery is located on the bottom of the instrument. To replace it, open the cover by pressing the two
side buttons simultaneously. Replace the battery respecting the polarity and close the cover.
4.1 Error Messages
"Memory error" –this message appears whenever the memory parameters are damaged
"OVR. POS. error" –this message appears whenever the entered value exceeds the 10% of the portable readout unit
full scale.
"OVR. NEG. error" –this message appears whenever the entered value is less than the 10% of the portable readout
unit full scale.
"Low battery" –this message appears whenever the voltage of the battery goes under 7,3 Volt; the portable readout
unit is still functioning but the read value couldn’t be correct.
4.2 Electrical Connections
NOTE: Always see the wiring diagram provided in the certificate supplied with the portable readout unit
