PLUG'N'GROW iGS-220 U User manual

Installation guide
iGS-220 U
Conversion kit to upgrade
iGS-220 to iGS-221
CONNECTION
Please refer to the iGS-221 Quick Setup Guide for procedure.
For more information, see Connection instructions in the User Manual, page 6.
Important: Your iGS-50 must be connected to the A input of the connection module to supply
power to the controller. The iGS-50 or an iGS-25 which is combined with an AC adaptor fulfill the
same purpose.
RESET PROCEDURE
In order to activate the iGS-221’s programming, a reset must be performed once the new
microcontroller has been installed. See Reset procedure in the User manual, page 24.
iGS-221 OPERATION
The following information is an addition to the iGS-221’s User Guide.
The iGS-221 is an iGS-220 improved version. To ease transition towards iGS-221, here is a
list of the most significant differences between the 2 devices.
The iGS-221 has been designed to control 6 different equipments prioritizing a logical sequence
of actions. The list of recommended equipments can be found in the User manual. See
Recommended equipments for an optimal use of the iGS-221 on page 6.
The iGS-221 no longer uses operating modes. The controller now performs a non-modifiable
internal programming that can intelligently manage equipments according to climatic conditions
of the crop's environment. For more details, see Sequence of actions in the User manual,
page 21.
The operation of differential is now slightly different from iGS-220, considering iGS-221 now
manages equipments that could induce conflicting actions (for instance cooling and heating).
See Differential in the User manual, page 17.
CO2differential options (dynamic or fixed): From now on, the selection will be made in the
[Operating Mode], see Differential type setting in the User manual, page 10.
It is possible to manually activate ventilation (output A2) in case of an emergency. See Manual
Activation of the emergency ventilation in the User manual, page 16.
Connecting an alarm system is now done on the connection module. See Alarm system
connection in the User manual, page 19.
Can my iGS-220 be updated by the iGS-220 U?
Yes if :
●Your controller is still under PLUG’N’GROW’s 3 years warranty. The control module iGS-220
and its power outlet iGS-50 are not covered by any extra warranty upon purchase of an iGS-
220 U.
●Your iGS-220 controller is in good working condition*:
➔Inspect electronic components. Look for traces of oxidation (white, greenish or rust) in the
lower part of the electronic circuit.
➔Inspect CO2sensor. A sensor with an outer gold surface damaged or badly oxidized is
considered unreliable due to aging.
➔Inspect your power outlet iGS-50. It will still be used once the conversion is completed.
➔Make sure the controller, as a whole, is in good condition.
* To remove iGS-220 unit’s cover, please refer to steps 1 through 4 of this guide.
Choose the iGS-220 U appropriate upgraded programming
To get the appropriate iGS-220 U microcontroller programming, please check the CO2sensor
present in the unit to upgrade.
iGS-220 U (T6004): suits CO2sensor T6004
iGS-220 U (T6615): suits CO2sensor T6615
Check the model of the iGS-220’s CO2sensor
●Open the unit’s cover according to step 1 through 4 of this guide.
●Once the cover is opened and flipped upside down, locate CO2sensor according to above
picture.
●Identify CO2sensor’s model by measuring it, then choose the proper upgrade:
Sensor T6004: 2.26” x 2.01”
Sensor T6615: 2.25” x 1.37”
PLUG’N’GROW WARRANTY
Nova Biomatique Inc. (hereafter NBI) offers a 3 years warranty starting from the original purchase
date by end-user (proof of purchase required) and applicable to all manufacturing defects of the iGS-
221 connection module and iGS-25. The microcontroller containing the iGS-221 programming is
not guaranteed, but may be exchanged (additional charges) in case of damage. Claims must be
submitted directly to NBI by the retailer or end-user (1 888 577-6274). Warranty applicable only to
new products purchased from a Wholesaler or an authorized retailer (used products sold on Internet
are excluded). This warranty is limited to repair or replacement of defective parts upon NBI’s
technical support approval. Warranty does not apply in the following cases: damages caused by
improper installation or misuse of product, damages caused during transportation (insurance
suggested), unauthorized alteration of product or negligence.
Wholesalers, distributors, retailers or other representatives associated to NBI cannot add, modify or
delete the scope and application of present warranty. For any other questions regarding our warranty,
please contact the PLUG’N’GROW customer service.

IMPORTANT : READ BEFORE INSTALLING
Microcontroller replacement
Flip casing’s cover upside down: the microcontroller is now
facing upward (5).
Using a flat blade screwdriver, remove the existing
microcontroller by gently inserting the blade between the
microcontroller and the base (6).
Gently twist the screwdriver while gradually inserting it until
microcontroller is dislodged (7).
Important: Do not apply pressure on the surrounding
components.
IMPORTANT: The new microcontroller must be installed
in the same direction shown in picture, otherwise, once
powered up, the unit will overheat and may cause burn
and damage both microcontroller and controller.
Each pin must be properly aligned and gently inserted in its
designated socket to avoid damaging.
Once in place, press down to fully connect the
microcontroller.
Replace cover
Slide first the casing’s cover to insert back the RJ45 female
connector in its allocated opening in the casing’s lower
segment, then close cover.
Put the 4 screws back.
Remove cover by lifting first the top side (3).
Slide gently forward to avoid damaging the RJ45 female
connector (4).

5
7
6
Install the new microcontroller containing the iGS-221
programming in the same location as the old one (8).

INSTRUCTIONS
Warnings: The following steps should be carefully followed
to avoid damaging controller and microcontroller units.
Please refer to illustrations.
A static electricity discharge may damage the microcontroller.
Before handling electronic parts, make sure to touch with
both hands any grounded metal such as a water faucet to
discharge your body of static electricity.
Opening the controller
Disconnect Ethernet cable (RJ45) from the casing’s lower
segment of controller iGS-220 (1).
Remove the 4 screws on top of the unit (2).
